Hi, I'm Bobby Albert. If you're a leader, I know what it's like to bang your head against your desk – frustrated because your people don't seem to care about you, the company, or the quality of their work! My decades as a CEO have taught me a few things about leadership – and the pitfalls that we can easily fall into. I know what it's like to try to get your people to buy into your vision and direction and sensing that they don't even care. It seems like they don't listen to what you're saying. It's frustrating to see people ignore your instructions and guidance – doing their own thing while derailing the team and the organization. Lead2Grow is designed to help leaders who want to make a difference in the lives of their customers and their employees. But the problem is, they're struggling to get the best from their teams. Most leaders think they have a team problem – not a leadership problem. But here's why they're wrong… Teams reflect the strengths (and weaknesses) of their leader. If you're thinking, “Great, another finger pointing at me!”, we have good news: if you're part of the problem, then YOU can DO something about it. You can get your team and your results back on track! With the Lead2Grow process, you will lead with greater clarity and confidence. You will develop the untapped potential within your team and move from frustrated to fulfilled. Say “good-bye” to feeling powerless. If you're looking for a proven process to achieve greater impact and success, join Lead2Grow today. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/habitsofthefew/message
To Doug Erickson, if you want employees and people to respect your leadership, you have to live a life worth following - and this is more than lip service. Doug says Christian leaders aren't called to be business owners; they are called to be stewards. But what does stewardship look like in practical application? Doug is the owner of Hastings Automotive, Inc. and Hastings Chrysler Center and to him being a steward means tithing not just from the money he takes home but from the business. Your favorite Texas host, Bobby Albert, relates to this big time! When he sold his company, he not only tithed the earnings he made and tithed the sales price back to his employees! Tune in for a heart-to-heart interview about flipping the org chart and letting go to let God. About the guest: Hailing from Hastings, Minnesota, Doug Erickson owned Hastings Automotive, Inc. and Hastings Chrysler Center for over 33 years. About the host: Following a successful career as CEO, Bobby sold his business to a publicly-traded company. In what he calls his "second half of life", Bobby seeks to pour Biblically-based principles into growth-minded business, church, and non-profit leaders. He shares many of his principles and practices through a weekly blog, the True North Leader podcast, and through three books he has authored: Principled Profits: Outward Success Is an Inside Job, True North Business: A Leader's Guide to Extraordinary Growth and Impact, and The Freedom Paradox: Is Unbridled Freedom Dividing America? Jim Sheppard, CEO & Principal of Generis, and Bobby Albert discuss wrestling their egos to live out John 3:30 - God make me smaller so you can be bigger! Jim reminds us that as a Christian leader, you don't have to be the smartest person in the room; you don't even have to be right. What matters is the value you offer when you choose to speak. This episode is all about surrender and self-awareness that comes from getting closer to God's heart. Jim shares timeless and timely insights that encourage you to move out of fear-based decision-making and into choices built on trusting God because you can do it fast, or you can do it right, but you can't do both. Don't miss this wealth of insight - it's timeless and timely. About the guest: Jim Sheppard is CEO & Principal of Generis, a consulting firm passionate about helping churches inspire and cultivate generosity through giving development, coaching, and strategy. After college, Jim passed the CPA exam and pursued a career as a financial executive. Though he grew up in the church, Jim was not a believer until he was 28. That part of his life intersected with his business life in 1991 when he thought he might be called to the pastorate. This came at a time when he was at a very high level in a major financial services company. After an intense spiritual period in his life, Jim realized that was not where God was calling him. Seven months later through a corporate buyout and a series of providentially inspired events, Jim moved from the corporate world to giving development for churches and ministry organizations. Jim is a student of generosity and is passionate about spreading it throughout the Church. For the last 27+ years, he has devoted his life to coaching pastors especially in navigating the resource limitations that restrict their ministry potential. Jim understands the financial challenges that churches face today; annual giving, debt, capital projects, and planned giving. He is a positive force in bridging these needs with the power of spiritually motivated stewardship. Cumulatively, Jim has partnered with his clients to raise over $1.7 billion for local church ministry. Jim is a frequent writer and speaker on generosity and ministry funding. He is co-author of Contagious Generosity: Creating A Culture Of Giving In Your Church. Jim and his wife, Nancy, live in the Atlanta, GA area and they have two married daughters. He is actively involved in his church where he serves as an elder and provides guidance to the Generosity Ministry Team. But building a values-driven organization involves much more than talking about it or having a few cookie-cutter words onto a page: it's about unearthing the beliefs that matter to your team and putting them into motion. When activated, those beliefs will turn into your company's compass, constantly pointing you in the direction you want to go. A lifelong entrepreneur, Bobby Albert has started 12 different businesses and acquired nine others. Bobby's leadership breakthrough came when he had this thought, "I want to be a Values-Driven company that achieves results; not a Results-Driven company that has values." Many companies have their mission statement or values painted on the wall, but no one who works there knows them or allows them to impact their work. Leaders and businesses need to transition from this results-based mindset to a value-based mindset and it starts from the highest form of leadership. Bobby Albert has spent over 40 years in business perfecting this ideal and he shares his insight with us here today!
My name is Bobby Albert and I've spent the last 40+ years of my life, in business, around business, surviving business, and thriving in business. It was then I realized that “I want to be a Values-Driven company that achieves results; not a Results-Driven company that has values”. https://selfdiscoverymedia.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=96398

Bobby discovered the business was upside down financially. The bankers wanted to collect and shut the business down. But Bobby found a way to make the business succeed and grow 500% in profit even during a bad recession. But the profit wasn't Bobby's focus. Profit and increased revenue was just a byproduct of Bobby's real focus, and that was learning how to be a good servant leader. When Bobby learned how to lead by serving, it changed everything. Workers wanted to work harder, business increased, everyone felt more fulfilled just by Bobby practicing good Biblical servant leadership.

Bobby Albert, is CEO and President of Values-Driven Leadership, a consulting firm focused on helping Christian leaders build inspiring workplace cultures driven by their core values. A life-long entrepreneur, Bobby has started twelve different businesses and acquired nine others. His approach to business has been to value people, seek wisdom, embrace humility, and never stop learning. Welcome to the show, Bobby!
In today’s episode, our guest is Bobby Albert, CEO of the Values-Driven Leadership LLC. He has been in the business for a long time. This person is passionate about helping other leaders build inspiring workplace cultures through values-driven leadership and has been a CEO of an organization that was able to increase revenue 500% between 2005 and 2011 in a publicly traded company that he sold. He is the author of three books, Principled Profits, True North Business, and the most recent one called Freedom Paradox. And today, he is going to share with us how he was able to make this big businesses take place. [4:49] Why should anybody listen to you? I come beside Christian Business Leaders and I help them learn how to have clarity on what their organization stands for. I help them learn how to have an influence with their people. And I come beside them to learn how to build a culture where people thrive and profit. [5:36] Where did you get the skills you work with? How did you figure it out? It took me a long time to figure it out. I had a defining moment in 1987 when I began to see my work as a ministry and not a job. And when I did it, it just took on a life on its own. It developed into a culture which we call workdays worship ministry and it started out internally with our employees in the workplace, and then eventually expanded in to how we can minister to customers and even suppliers on an external basis. [7:07] Core Values For many years, our employees clearly knew. They often hear me talking about our purpose, our vision. And instead of a mission statement, I chose to use the term super objectives. [7:26] For years, I’ve kept thinking that something was missing and in 2005, I figured it out and it was our core values. Nobody ever taught me anything about core values, or how to even discover your core values. I had to come up with questions. And I had to dig really deep inside of me to figure out. I kept asking myself questions and one day said to myself that I think I’m ready to discover who I am. I made a list of words that describe my passion for the things that gets me fired up. I circled 6 words that I written and decided that this is who I am. And that was the start of us, for me to put some words to those six core values, and then we shut down the company for a whole half a day to introduce those core values to our company. I wanted our people to go through some kind of discovery process like I did. [14:19] What are the stages or steps somebody can go through to start infusing core values into their business? One of my books, the True North Business has downloadable documents on how to discover your core values. It goes through the questions that help you discover, your core values, organization purpose, organization vision, organization super objectives, and if you’re trying to discover your mission statement. [15:05] Family My wife and I were very fortunate. We have three boys. They're all married. Our daughters-in-law, we loved them so much. They're like daughters to us. And we have eight grandkids, and we got one coming up. Our boys manage their money well, they all have excellent jobs, and they are active in their church. I’m a proud father and I'm so proud my sons marrying such wonderful girls. [16:20] My life purpose is to be a model Christian businessman. My vision is to integrate the Lordship of Jesus Christ into every area of my life, and I want to encourage other people to do that, as well. I spent over 30 years teaching 12th grade boys at our church. I learned a lot about other boys and about their families and things. I think a lot had to do at home is teaching our boys starting when they were in elementary school about how to manage money, we would read our bible together. We are one of those families that we were very active in our church. I think it also comes from a strong marriage because Jesus Christ was the center of my life and my marriage. [18:45] Leadership Principle A lot of it is just setting the example. And that's the same kind of leadership principle. I had to lead myself before I could lead my family. And I had to lead myself before I can lead our employees. One of the principles I teach in the True North Business book is called “On and In” and it's helping business leaders to work on the business while they're working in the business. And there are three pillars to that which is first you need to grow you, then you can grow, then grow your people. And finally, you can grow your business [22:18] Faith and Company One of my core values is strive for excellence. And to me, it’s not a summertime thing, it's an all-time thing. What I would tell our employees over and over and over, that when they came to work every day, they came to work for the Lord Jesus Christ, and not Bobby Albert. [23:18] The traditional organizations chart tells everybody in the organization, they're there to serve the leader at the top. We still have that, because people need to understand roles and responsibilities. But we would also show an upside down organization chart with me at the bottom, where it was my responsibility to equip and serve the leaders to develop them. They had a responsibility to just keep going up. And at the top of the organization chart, were frontline people. And then the customer was at the top. One thing I wish I did, I didn't think about it at the time is that I should have had Jesus Christ at the top. What promise did God make to the world when He created you? [27:26] My life purpose which is to become a model Christian Businessman. Key Quotes [21:49-21:52] “Whatever you do, that's where it starts” [22:12-22:16] “Whatever you do, work at it with all of your heart.” Learn more about Bobby Albert on: Website: https://bobbyalbert.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Values.Driven.Leadership Twitter: https://twitter.com/BobbyAlbert

In this week's episode of the Follower of One podcast, Mike speaks with Bobby Albert. Bobby is the CEO and President of the Values-Driven Leadership company where they are focused on teaching others the growth enabling the potential of building foundational values into the company culture. Bobby has over 45 years of business ownership experience and it all started with living each day at work through Christ! Please welcome Bobby to our community. Episode Breakdown 1:15 - Meet Bobby Albert 4:55 - Discover Your Purpose with Bobby 8:50 - Free Worksheet to Discover Your Life Purpose 11:10 - Bobby's books 12:40 - Principle vs. Expedience 18:55 - Pay Attention to Who You Are Becoming 22:05 - Work for the Lord First, Always 26:40 - Bobby's advice for Monday Pay Now and Play Later One of the key topics Bobby and Mike discuss is "Principle vs. Expediency". Through Bobby's research, he found that people are often driven by quick success and not by long term success. I am guilty of this as well but it is a very common theme in today's world. Most of us seem to not want to sacrifice in the now to have a better tomorrow and that effect will snowball over time. Making the short term sacrifice is necessary for long term gain. What have you sacrificed to reach a goal of yours? Our lives are built up of little moments that lead to one big one. Is that big moment a downhill slide or a giant leap upward? Introspective Alignment In the Follower of One's Marketplace Mission trip, we want to start and end your day with a focus on God and your duties. The goal is to think introspectively about yourself, God, where you are, and who you want to become. This rings true with how you should go to work every day as well. Bobby talks about how his Company's culture started and ended with God. His employees knew it, leadership knew it, Bobby knew it, and that help build a successful business. Consistently thinking about how you are walking with Christ is essential in your success in the workplace. "In whatever you do, do it with all your heart". How many times have you thought about where you are with God to yourself today? Interview Quote "When you reap your short-term sacrifices for long term gain, you have reached a successful life. To me, living a successful life is the fruit of the spirit." The Freedom Paradox – Bobby Albert pt 2 (https://kcrpodcast.com/bobby-albert-grid-and-greenery-1-400/)My guest today is Bobby Albert, president of “Values-Driven Leadership, LLC,” where he helps other leaders to build aspiring workplace cultures through value-driven leadership. He is an author, speaker, business consultant and a contributor on “Fox News Radio,” sharing his insight on leadership, workplace culture and employee engagement. Just one month out of college, he inherited the family business that was burdened with debt and turned that into a highly successful company, starting twelve different businesses along the way and has acquired nine other companies on top of that. He attributes his success to focusing on creating a value-driven culture where the people are the focus and the financial results are the happy reward. In fact, this type of success earned him two awards for “The Best 100 Companies to Word for in Texas” the first two years he applied for consideration! He has served for over 20 years as a deacon in his home church and has taught for over 30 years in high school and is an avid long distance bicyclist in his spare time, where he and his wife of over 40 years, Susan, both completed the “Hotter Than Hell 100” mile bike ride in Texas – in August. He is an author of three books. His first book was “Principled Profits – Outward Success Is an Inside Job,” his second was The Freedom Paradox: Is Unbridled Freedom Dividing America (https://amzn.to/3klmR6S), which cuts through the haze of hatred and polarizing politics of our day and time we see ourselves in right now. There is one section of your book that just jumped out at me, especially with all that we see happening right now all over this nation. It deals with, what you call, the “Four Cultural Changes” that are happening in America. Can you explain what those four cultural changes are? Do you see a way forward that will bring our culture back from these four changes to a culture that is more in line with America’s core values and purpose that we talked about a few minutes ago? After writing two successful business books, what made you decide to write a non-business book this time? Bobby, how can our listeners get in touch with you? Folks, everything Bobby Albert just shared with us is so needful in the day and time in which we live. If there was ever a need for a book such as ”The Freedom Paradox,” it is now. Especially now. That word “Paradox.” Why did you put that in the title? Is there a “Paradox” of Freedom? Bobby Albert explains the main problem in America today is “pursuing freedom but neglecting the responsibility that is associated with freedom.” How does this “Freedom Paradox” relate to what we see happening within our culture and on the news today? You have also included many references in your book to America’s founders. Does the “Freedom Paradox” actually go all the way back to the birth of our nation? Bobby shares what he has learned about America’s core values and purpose.
