ArcBest celebrated its centennial this year, along with gains in the less-than-truckload market. In this Talking Transports podcast, ArcBest's Chairman, President and CEO, Judy McReynolds joins Lee Klaskow, Bloomberg Intelligence senior transportation & logistics analyst, to discuss how its LTL business is mitigating softer demand with share gains following Yellow's bankruptcy, which is also boosting prices for the service and providing opportunities to expand capacity. Growth may come organically and through acquisitions, which ArcBest has used to transform into an integrated-logistics company. McReynolds also talks about the path to 2025 targets, how ArcBest's focus on productivity has helped offset inflation's impact on margins and where electric vehicles may fit into its network.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Michael's insights underscore ArcBest's customer-centric approach, using innovative solutions like the Vaux system to provide unprecedented value. As the conversation unfolds, the duo deep dives into broader tech trends reshaping the logistics industry, especially after recent supply chain disruptions. Mary O'Connell- 3PL Expert - FreightWaves - St. Louis, MO What's going on with ArcBest right now - there are rumblings that the Fort Smith Arkansas company has some interest. What would an ArcBest acquisition by TFI do for the Montreal-based company? I talked with some of the folks from ArcBest at F3 last November and this is a company that has made many acquisitions through the pandemic period - are they ready for this? Let's talk about non-competes and particularly enforcement - at the 3PL level, what's the process of enforcement? Obviously with the FTC opening their comment period about ending non-competes, there's a lot of passion on both sides. Whether you've gone through a merger and acquisition or just tried to onboard a new employee, you know the key to success is getting people to opt into the vision and process of the organization. This cowboy boot wearin' C-suite exec freely offers the lessons he's learned from the top, so you know what it takes to nurture teams that opt in emotionally with the organization's goals. And here's the deal, his advice is way bigger than the bottom line or keeping employees - it shows us how to lead like Christ. Key Takeaways: Supply Chain Lessons From NW Arkansas Donnie Williams, Ph.D. in an Associate Professor of Supply Chain Management and the Executive Director of the Supply Chain Management Research Center in the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas. In the podcast interview, Donnie and Joe discussed supply chain lessons from Northwest Arkansas (NWA). Northwest Arkansas is a metropolitan area and region in Arkansas within the Ozark Mountains that includes four of the ten largest cities in the state: Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers, and Bentonville, the surrounding towns of Benton and Washington counties. The United States Census Bureau defined Fayetteville–Springdale–Rogers Metropolitan Statistical Area includes 3,213.01 square miles and 546,725 residents (as of 2020), ranking NWA as the 105th most-populous metropolitan areas in the United States. NWA is also one of the fastest growing regions in the USA thanks in part to the growth of Walmart, Tyson Foods, ArcBest, J. B. Hunt, which are all based in the region. Because of the companies above a lot of logistics and supply chain companies moved to the region. The co-location led to unprecedented amounts of collaboration, cross-pollination, and innovation. With all that supply chain talent living in the area, it was no surprise that The Department of Supply Chain Management at the University of Arkansas became the best supply chain program according to Gartner. The focus on supply chain in the community, university, and corporations has led to the region being recognized as a hub for logistics and supply chain innovation. Carrie Owenby is a Senior Financial Analyst at ArcBest by day, and a dance instructor at night. She teaches a one hour tap dance class to adults — most of whom are women in their 50s and 60s — and hip hop to a room full of teenagers. “I love all aspects of dance but I think my favorite is hip hop. I love it because it’s so much fun and makes me feel the most free. The music is upbeat and so happy. You throw the moves and it’s not about control. The bigger you make ‘em, the better they are.” When asked if her kids think it’s cool that she knows how to hip hop dance, the mother of three teenage sons said, “They don’t think anything I do is cool right now.” Visit the ArcBest Facebook page to learn more about Carrie’s passion for teaching dance and see her in action!
