- Giampiero Comolli, scrittore e giornalista, propone in queste settimane delle riflessioni bibliche sui primi capitoli del libro della Genesi. Questa settimana, soffermandosi sulla creazione del genere umano, spiega che cosa significhi “li creò maschio e femmina” (Genesi 1, 27). L'essere umano – afferma Comolli – non è solo chiamato a un dialogo con Dio, ma anche al dialogo fra i due generi, maschile e femminile, su un piano di totale parità, senza prevaricazione e nell'ascolto reciproco.- La Zwinglihaus di Zurigo compie 100 anni. Nella Aemtlerstrasse, quartiere Wiedikon, sorgeva nel 1925 un grande edificio fuori dal comune e all'avanguardia per l'epoca: un ampio cortile e la chiesa senza campanile, un teatro e, in cima a una scalinata, la vera e propria chiesa. In un quartiere che nei primi decenni del Novecento si espandeva, anche a causa dei flussi migratori, la Zwinglihaus voleva essere punto di incontro per i lavoratori migranti e non solo. Oggi il contesto è cambiato, ma le parole “accoglienza e trasformazione” rimangono al centro delle sue attività. Ne parla il pastore Herbert Anders, della Chiesa valdese di lingua italiana, che presso la Zwinglikirche organizza per il 30 marzo uno speciale culto per il centenario.

Wir erleben eine Region, die über Jahrhunderte von der venezianischen Kultur geprägt wurde. Milka Sinkovič führt uns durch die älteste und wohl auch schönste Stadt Sloweniens. Sie zeigt uns ihren Heimatort, das malerische Piran mit seinen engen Gassen und vielen Kirchen. Der Rundgang beginnt am Tartini-Platz und schlängelt sich bis zum Campanile. Der markante Glockenturm erinnert unweigerlich an das berühmte Pendant in Venedig. Später erleben wir den Sonnenuntergang am Leuchtturm von Piran. In einer der engen Gassen befindet sich das Atelier Duka. In die Fußstapfen ihrer Mutter ist Jerneja Šorel geschlüpft und fertigt hier in großer Leidenschaft Keramik mit vielen Motiven der Stadt. Über ihre Lieblingsorte und die Farben von Piran erzählt uns die Handwerkerin. Istrien steht für Genuß, den wir natürlich auch nicht außen vor lassen wollen. Direkt an der Grenze zu Kroatien gelegen befindet sich der Bauernhof Mahnič mit dem Blick auf die Salinen, das Meer und das nahe Dorf Kaštel. Hier treffen wir Ingrid Mahnič, die als slowenische Weinkönigin bezeichnet wird,  auch als Königin der Malvazija“. Mit ihr sprechen über grenzenlosen Rebensaft auf der istrischen Halbinsel. Ihrem Sohn Nik Mahnič schauen wir beim Grappa-Brennen über die Schulter. Auf eine Reise zur Fonda Fish Farm in der Meeresbucht vor der kroatischen Grenze nimmt uns Gorazd Šinik mit. Von ihm erfahren wir viel über das Ökosystem in der Adria. Viel Spaß im mediterranen Slowenien!

Wie bei vielen Betonkirchen steht auch der Campanile der Schongauer Pfarrkirche separat. Er läuft 48 Meter extrem spitz zu, daher hängen die fünf Perner-Bronzeglocken untereinander im Turm. Die kleine, 200 Kilo schwere Hedwigsglocke erinnert an alle Heimatvertriebenen.

Today's Destination is Venice, Italy Part 2 of 3 Today's Misstep: Spend more time in the region of Northern Italy.   Travel Advice: In Venice, Get Lost FAQ: Would I go back to Venice?   Answer: The answer is yes because I hardly saw the main attractions the first time. I was in a crowd of tourists, and it was under construction. I think there will be better crowd control now that there's a fee. Today's destination: Venice, Italy Part 2 of 3 Venice is called the City of Dreams.  It's the capital of northern Italy's Veneto region and is built on over 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea. It has no roads, just canals—including the Grand Canal thoroughfare—lined with Renaissance and Gothic palaces. The central square, Piazza San Marco, contains St. Mark's Basilica, tiled with Byzantine mosaics, and the Campanile bell tower, which offers views of the city's red roofs.  Yes, Venice is sinking. This is due to sediment settling and freshwater pumping from below ground. What are the main places to explore here?   Take the canals everywhere, because there are no cars.   So many corners. Rialto Bridge is in the middle of the busy tourist activity.   If I had more time, I would have spent it in Venice. I only had four days, which got me more interested in being part of the city life. This is Stephen Schmidt from the Gazette Digital News Desk, and I'm here with your update for November 27, 2023.According to the National Weather Service it will be sunny in the Cedar Rapids area on Monday with a high near 27 degrees. A west wind of 10 to 15 mph could gust as high as 25 mph. On Monday evening it will be mostly clear, with a low of around 10 degrees.Just one year into the public portion of the University of Northern Iowa's $250 million comprehensive fundraising campaign, the Cedar Falls campus already is most of the way to its goal — putting it more than two years ahead of schedule.But UNI doesn't plan to wrap its Our Tomorrow fundraising push early — before 2026, when the campaign's finale is supposed to converge with UNI's sesquicentennial — especially since unforeseen circumstances have added new projects and fundraising needs.“The goal is certainly to exceed $250 (million),” UNI President Mark Nook told The Gazette, noting the campus hasn't set a new specific goal. “We may in the future. But for now, we will run the campaign through June of 2026. And we're using that because 2026 is our 150th anniversary.”The campaign is funding scholarships, additional majors at UNI, faculty initiatives and research, and the renovation of noted campus spaces, such as the Campanile, the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, and the UNI-Dome.A residence on M Avenue NW had “major” damage after an early morning fire on Sunday.According to a Cedar Rapids Fire Department media release, firefighters were dispatched at 3:48 a.m. to a residential fire at the 500 block of M Ave NW.Upon arriving at the scene firefighters reported flames showing from the front of the house. They pulled one water line, and then another, before bringing the flames under control, according to the release.A search of the interior of the home was done before an all clear was reported, according to the release. No residents appeared to be home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. Damage to the residence was listed as “major” in the release but no other information was given.The fire remains under investigation.According to reporting from the Waterloo Courier, no one was injured on Saturday evening when there was an explosion at a POET bioethanol plant that sent a fireball into the sky.Emergency responders were called at around 4 p.m. after the resulting boom caused by the explosion.Butler County Emergency Management Coordinator Chris Showalter told the Courier that the fire had mostly resolved itself by the time fire crews had arrived. The fire remains under investigation, but Showalter said the current speculation is that combustible dust somehow exploded.

This is The Campanile, a 284-foot tower on the south-west corner of Westminster Cathedral.Saturday 23rd February 1924 was an ordinary day for happily married mother-of-two Margaret Ann Davey; she made breakfast, she packed some sandwiches for lunch, and – at 11:30am – she climbed the steps to the top of The Campanile.Having purchased a ticket, the doorman had no suspicions that her mind was unbalanced, as she seemed happy and well. But at 2:10pm, having jumped from the top, and plummeted 86 metres, she ended her life on the hard stone road of Ambrosden Avenue. Our two guests today are, Dr. Sandra Cammarata and Dr. Giovanni Campanile, who  wrote the  book, The Sicilian Secret Diet Plan, which introduces the pleasure and wonderful health benefits of the Sicilian version of the Mediterranean Diet. Dr. Campanile is a Clinical and Functional Cardiologist and Founding Director of the Chambers Center for Well-Being in Morristown, NJ.  He's board-certified in five different specialties and subspecialties including Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Interventional Cardiology, Integrative Medicine, Anti-Aging Regenerative Medicine,  Dr. Sandra Cammarata practices Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at Tufts University.  She was raised in Catania, Sicily, graduated from Catania Medical School, and moved to the U.S. with her husband Giovanni. Giovanni and Sandra share their backgrounds with us,   We find out what makes the Sicilian Diet unique.  We discuss their book, The Sicilian Secret Diet Plan.  Sandra points out five things that help us live long: healthy diets, healthy sleep, exercise, connecting with others, and the ability to stay in the present.  Giovanni explains it's not just diet, but how we live our lives that is so important .
