A passionate conversation with Janie Charlot, the definition of a self-made, universe-directed woman. Janie went to university with dreams of becoming a pharmacist but became a nurse practitioner instead. Not wanting to compromise who she was for any job, she created and founded NP (Nurse Practitioners) For Hire, a collaborative effort between many medical professionals to bring consulting and health advice and management to the metro Atlanta area and beyond. Janie grounds her medical practice in a deep spirituality. She has also authored two different books and has a seemingly boundless well of energy. KEY TAKEAWAYS- the universe has a vibration and if you act in “I am” statements, the universe will acknowledge that vibration and bring you a future more aligned with that energy. - That traditional medicine numbs our pain but doesn’t treat the cause. We need to look at our wounds more holistically and take physical, mental, and spiritual paths to heal them. Coming from financially very little, but having a parent who loved her unconditionally, taught Janie a lot about service and about doing things with no expectation of anything done in “return”. She has a She wants to educate and empower people to take charge of their own health and well-being through the experience she has had both with becoming a nurse and becoming attuned to love. BEST MOMENTS - “If we could also look to nature to clear the disease, then we could stop relying so much on pharmaceuticals. It is a balance. Sometimes we do have to take medication until we are emotionally and mentally equipped with the resources to tap into nature and tap into healing those parts of ourselves. Because that does require going deeper. It requires going deeper and healing.” - “We are programmed that way (to fear). And I think if we could get to unconditional divine self-love within, … we're wide open, because now you can be who you need to be…and I don't have to control you, I can allow you to grow at your own time, in your own space.”- “But when you put something out to the universe, it conspires to bring it to you. I started to experience in awakening to I would call it a love vibration. When I walked outside, I was seeing things that has always been there, but I was seeing the love in it.”- “We must speak from a space of I am or already have it. So: I have a divine love. I am divine love. And then the more I did that, that vibration took over me internally and then I was a magnet for it.” ABOUT THE GUEST Janie Charlot proves that “though she be but little, she is fierce”. Born to a single mother in Church Point, Louisiana, she graduated high school at the top of her class. She enrolled at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, originally with visions of becoming a pharmacist, but changed her major to nursing when she was not accepted to her program of choice. After graduation she wanted to continue to innovate the healthcare field, so she was inspired to start NP Hired, an Atlanta-based company that provides healthcare services on a national and international level. They use technology to provide all types of medical services, including treatment of minor conditions and management of chronic illnesses. Janie has spun her passion for healthcare advocacy and helping others into a successful business. On top of that, she is the author of two books, and lives her life from a place of spiritual strength. Will LaBar, Vice President of CGI Federal’s Digital Service and Onshore Delivery Center Programs, is our guest. A native of Somerset County, New Jersey, he graduated in Finance from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Upper State New York. After college, Will moved to Northern Virginia where he met his future bride, Carlee Alm. He dated Carlee long distance for a year and took a leap of faith by moving to Lafayette in 2000 so he could be close to her as she worked in Church Point for Teach for America. Will actually has French Canadian roots, as his dad was born outside of Quebec City, Canada, and maintained dual citizenship. So while Lafayette LA was not on his radar as a young man growing up in New Jersey, Lafayette's Acadian and French heritage was appealing to Will. Will's employer at the time, American Management Systems, accepted his request to work from Louisiana. The company was purchased by CGI in 2004 and Will continued to work as a telecommuter until 2014 when CGI selected Lafayette for its facility. CGI was attracted to Lafayette due to several factors: 1) The company strategically locates in parts of the U. S. where there is not historically a technology workforce in place; 2) CGI recognized the ready partnership opportunity with UL-Lafayette, LEDA, LED and our local government working together to diversify the economy; 3) The existence of LUS Fiber provided the necessary technological infrastructure; and 4) Valuable incentives were offered by the State of Louisiana such as LED FastStart, ranked the nation’s No. 1 workforce development program for nine years in a row. CGI's Digital Service and Onshore Delivery Center program is at UL - Lafayette's Research Park. The program was begun in 2006 and has 7 centers across the US and has created more than 1,600 jobs in partnership with local communities and universities. 400 employees are based here in Lafayette and CGI plans to double that number of workers to 800. When asked what "onshore delivery" meant, Will explained, "The company assists both government and business clients and serves as an interface to make it easier to input data and compress the time it takes to retrieve the data. The end result is that the public can more easily obtain information and businesses stay in compliance. CGI modernizes IT." For more information, visit CGi's site here. Ever wonder how big CGI really is? It is the world’s 5th largest independent IT and business process services company with over 74,000 members in 400 offices across 40 countries. One program of importance to CGI is the STEM@CGI Program. This nationwide K-12 program aims to train and mentor young people for STEM careers and teaches the students computer building and coding in one-day programs. Launched in Lafayette in 2016, STEM@CGI was envisioned by Anne Swanson, CGI's U. S. Education and Workforce Development Coordinator, and resulted initially in a partnership with UL Lafayette and the Lafayette Parish School System. The program took off like wildfire and CGI's team members have now taught over 3000 students at 45 events in 10 communities nationwide. Local partners include GEAR Up and New Vision Leadership, and the students utilize UL - Lafayette Computer labs and resources at the Lafayette Parish Library. Half of the local team members are recent graduates of Louisiana universities and half are hired on the open market. The majority of employees have technical backgrounds in traditional programming, yet some have backgrounds in non-traditional studies that offer transferable skills to the IT sector. Will spoke of the importance of hires trained in "informatics," offered at UL - Lafayette in fields such as business, healthcare, digital media and more. Informatics is a blend of technology and business application that teaches the student to solve problems with an understanding of the business objective. Will spoke of the high quality of the talent hired out of UL-Lafayette, and stated,

For most of human history, we ve looked to our political leaders to bring about change. We can go all the way back to Cesar, Napoleon, Churchill, and Lincoln. Since the industrial revolution, we ve been able to add the names of business leaders who have radically changed our world. Henry Ford. Sam Walton. Steve Jobs. Currently, Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk are changing everything from groceries to space travel. On a smaller scale, here in Acadiana, individuals in business are having an impact on our lives. Cian Robinson moved here from New Jersey because his wife, Dr Nathalie Harder, took over as Chancellor of South Louisiana Community College. Cian had a background in business development and landed a job here in Lafayette as Executive Director of the Lafayette General Foundation. Cian s current position at Lafayette General Health System is Executive Director of Innovation, Research, and Real Estate Investments. Dr Ryan Cazares comes from Scott Louisiana. Ryan graduated from the University of Houston in 2011. Instead of joining an existing medical clinic, he came home to Scott, and in 2013 founded Scott Eye Care. Ryan is the only eye doctor who s ever had a clinic in Scott. In business, being the first and only can go one of two ways. Either you find out there s a good reason there are no businesses like yours. Or, it s just what everybody has been waiting for. Luckily for Ryan, Scott Eye Care has turned out to be the latter. So many people in the medically under served populations in Rayne, Crowley and Church Point make the trek to Scott that Scott Eye Care now has two doctors and is looking to expand. Aileen Bennett knows more about the provision of healthcare in Acadiana than she might like. Her depth of knowledge pays off in this frank discussion about the health of our local and national healthcare system. Photos at Marcello s wine Market Cafe by Lucius Fontenot. Business today is increasingly about information, technology, and service. Before this era, business wasn t so much people making things happen, it was simply about making things. Today on Out to Lunch Peter Ricchiuti is talking about people who make things. With robots. And steam. At the beginning of the 21st Century Missy Rogers and her husband Scott founded Noble Plastics with a bunch of employees who had no experience whatsoever making plastic products. Noble Plastics has continued on this path of local groundbreaking, creating a state of the art manufacturing plant that today includes robotic plastic molding machines, automated monitoring, a design studio, and an Acadiana Small Business of the Year Award. Jim Phillips calls himself the Founding Evangelist and Information Officer of The Incubatrix. The Incubatrix is a free community building program based on STEAM Science, Technology, Education and Art Makers. THE INCUBATRIX was launched in 2014 at the Lafayette Science Museum during The STEAMpunk and MAKERS Fair which celebrates Art and Science through performance, presentation and hands on interactivity. There s an old proverb that says, "If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day but if you teach him to fish you feed him for a lifetime." Learning something new changes one s perception of the world and opens so many doors. Being on the teaching end presents opportunities, too. On this edition of Out to Lunch, Stephanie introduces two entrepreneurs who are creating opportunities through education companies that are teaching clients life changing and life saving skills. Joey Comeaux is founder and CEO of Cover Six Training Academy. It s based in Church Point and trainis Law Enforcement, Military and First Responders as well as owners of business establishments how to deal with an "active shooter," hostage, or terrorist situation. At 75,000 square feet, Joey s training facility a converted Fruit of the Loom factory uses moveable walls to recreate building layouts such as hospitals, schools, houses, banks and hotels. Since its opening, thousands of law enforcement and first responders have traveled to south Louisiana for their training at Cover Six s facility. And Joey and his team visit casinos and other businesses to train staff to deal with an occurence of violence on premises. Less dramatic but no less important or impressive, Peter Ranzino s Learning Sciences is a Baton Rouge based learning and development company that specializes in the deployment of web based learning environments for its clients and their employees. Those clients include some well known national companies, such as NBC Sports, Philips 66, Glaxosmithkline, LSU, and the Louisiana State Police. Photos at Mansurs On The Boulevard by Ken Stewart. Acadiana is known for entertainment. If you don t play in a band yourself, someone in your family almost certainly does. There s music everywhere from small house parties to giant festivals. But there s more to life than music. For example, comedy. There s a genre of Cajun comedy, typified by our friend Boudreaux. Boudreaux usually appears to be a na ve country boy at the beginning of the joke, but in the end gets the last laugh. Over the years there have been a few notable Cajun comedians. But what Acadiana has not enjoyed is a comedy culture. There haven t been comedy clubs, or a place where visiting stand up comedians on a national tour could perform. Until the recent advent of a business, called Lafayette Comedy. The founder of Lafayette Comedy is Jason Leonard. Jason is also the founder of the Louisiana Beard and Facial Hair Association. That s not a joke. It s how Jason got started in the funny business. If you re going to make a living as a comedian in Acadiana you either have to have very meager needs, or have a few other skills to supplement your income. Robert Harris is a comedian. He s also an artist, recording artist, event poster designer, playwright, performing artist, and voice actor specializing in Cajun accents. On top of that he has a gallery in downtown Lafayette where he sells his artwork. And he s royalty best known around Lafayette as King Rob. On Out to Lunch we generally have three guests. So the thinking when putting together trhis show was, who could we invite as a third guest to join these two comeians How about somebody who could use a laugh Say, someone who spends all day teaching people how to shoot, bust a meth lab without blowing themselves up, get into a hostage location through the roof, use a Taser, repel out of a helicopter, and react to all kinds of threats of violence That would be Joey Comeaux. Joey is founder and CEO of the Cover Six Training Academy in Church Point. He might be a fearsome tactical assault expert, but on this show Joey gets the last laugh. Photos at Social by Gwen Aucoin.
