What if I told you your food isn't just making you sick—it's been engineered to? What if behind every bite, there were hidden chemicals, birth control agents, and corporate cover-ups? Well, it's not a what if—it's reality. In this episode of the Know Better | Do Better podcast, I'm sitting down with Zen Honeycutt, the powerhouse behind Moms Across America, an organization fighting to remove glyphosate, heavy metals, and even hidden contraceptives from our food supply.

I discovered a strategy that has allowed me to attract customers to the tune of over 100 each day (all on autopilot) AND I realized that it's possible for EVERYONE to do. We've all been there. You've lost count of all the “Hey Girl!” or “Hey Bro!” messages to strangers on social media or the nonstop pitching of your products and services just to make a sale. You don't even want to recall how many times you've been ignored. At this point, you're starting to wonder if you're ever going to land more sales. As a home business owner of a multi-7-figure influencer brand, I have learned that attracting an endless pool of perfect customers is EVERY entrepreneur's dream. I know this because I used to be glued to my screen 24/7 trying to start conversations with complete strangers that often lead to zero sales and lots of frustration. This strategy, that I talk about on the show, saves me from a ton of headaches and allows me to attract customers, while still having a life. It's a highly effective strategy that I've been using successfully for over 8 years now and I want to share it with you so you can have similar, if not better, results than me. So listen up… If you're tired of having poor to little results when trying to attract customers, this episode is for YOU. Say goodbye to all those weird messages to strangers on social media, my friend. It's time to crush it! Today we are talking to Carrie Veatch about MONEY. How to make money online, having time and location freedom. She wants to normalize the idea that you do not have to work ten hours a day to be successful. In fact, she finds that when she talks to people working that many hours in a day, they failed to do the one important thing they needed to do in order to build their successful online business, which is talking about money. When you start talking about money, you can work part-time and earn a full-time income. That is more possible than ever today! We learn how simple it can actually be as we discuss what she did to create her business. She started with Acuity Scheduling and an email list. That was it. If your mind doesn't get blown right there and your wheels turn, then you're doing it right already. Many people are hiding in the background, in tech, doing the busy work, but the key to success... Is having a conversation with others about MONEY! In case you missed it, she is simply seeing too many people caught up in the wrong things. As a result, they become very frustrated. In your business, you need sales, so it's appropriate to talk about money. You need to gain those sales in a way that feels good to you. The sales process can be easier than you think if you find your flow. Yet you have to become aware of your current money story and find ways to change it. ABOUT CARRIE Hi there! I'm Carrie and chasing freedom and helping others find the same, is one of my biggest life passions. I lived for so many years unable to truly set myself free. Living in vicious cycles of victimhood, self-sabotage, and self-doubt, I kept myself in a prison of my own making. I doubted the light I had within myself by constantly giving away my power. Once I healed my gut and learned to tap into the power of my mind, I truly learned how to unlock the magic within myself. And I'm fully convinced we all have limitless potential within ourselves with the right tools and support. With my MA in counseling psychology, I've been a therapist, worked in gang prevention and victim services, and was the Executive Director of a highly successful education-based nonprofit. Now I'm the proud owner of two online businesses and the host of the innovative and community-based podcast, Set Yourself Free. I'm a nomad living and traveling abroad, morning routine enthusiast, Crossfitter, scooter-loving, coffee-addicted, community-minded, gluten-free foodie that is obsessed with helping YOU create the life of freedom that you desire. The online space can feel frustrating AF. Why is everyone else making it look sooooo easy?? WTF is wrong with me that I can't sign clients online as easily as everyone else?? If that's you (because that was 100% me -- I got you!) We all have different versions of what freedom means and I'm here to help you uncover YOUR perfect version of how to set yourself free. Doubting yourself, starting and stopping in your business, wondering if you "have" what it takes (you do!) might be a part of your story but it doesn't have to be the whole story and I'm here to help you set yourself free. https://setyourselffreellc.com/ https://www.instagram.com/setyourselffree.llc/ http://bit.ly/setyourselffreeitunes Connect with your Host Jenn on the GRAM Join the Community HERE

In today's "Down the Rabbit Hole" episode in life after a suicide loss, I talk about the NY Times article from this past week that has caused quite a stir amongst grievers and the therapeutic world alike. I take a shallow dive into the deep end on my thoughts (yes, it's just my opinion) and even I surprise myself a bit on where I land - well, at least where I might land (it's really too early to say!) What do you think? Take a look at the article HERE and tell me what you think. Good conversation - persistent and consistent conversation about these hard topics IS how we will make progress and move the needle. I do know that this is a lonely and helpless grief and that we need support, tools and other grievers to get through this successfully so, I have also included this LINK that takes you to the signing up space to get started in our very own "Picking up the Pieces" Community HERE. We're taught the difference between healthy and unhealthy food choices from a young age. And a Google search related to the terms "diet" or "weight loss" will yield millions of results in a matter of milliseconds. Yet, of the hundreds of people who diet each year, 85% regain the weight they lose within 12 months and 95% regain it within three years. Worse - nearly 50% end up weighing even more than when they began their initial weight-loss efforts just a few short years later. So if we know what to do and have an infinite number of resources to help us lose weight, why can't we as a population figure out how to achieve sustainable weight loss? In this episode, we'll share the single most important change you can make to achieve sustainable weight loss - for good. About Paul: I'm a Registered Dietitian, Coach, Author, and Sustainable Weight-Loss Expert. I firmly believe that weight-loss-related challenges aren't related to lack of nutrition knowledge, but are actually projections of deeper rooted emotional and psychological challenges and that one won't be able to confidently sustain weight loss until those challenges are acknowledged and overcome. My passion is helping men and women bring awareness to the negative self-talk, toxic thought patterns, limiting beliefs, counterproductive habits, and self-sabotaging behaviors holding them back from achieving their goals and helping them to understand the origins and then rewrite, reframe, and rewire for lasting, positive change. Since 2013, I've worked one-on-one with 1,453 men and women who have collectively lost more than 10,000 pounds, thousands of inches, and maintained their results. How is your purpose related to my laundry room? On today's show, I talk to you about how sometimes you have to tear something down that you feel like you've already worked on. If you are working toward a purpose you need to make mental space and time to work on it. Clearing out your mental clutter is all about creating a new mindset for what you are trying to achieve and that means you might have to throw out old beliefs to make room for new ones. Settle in for this fantastic episode with Wendie Taylor. I loved her approach of incorporating intuitive eating and the idea of adding more instead of restricting. Wendie Taylor, MBA, RDN is registered dietitian and food/body image coach. She is working to redefine the stereotypical ideal of a “dietitian”. She works with women to find freedom from "diet brain" and helps navigate them in their journey to Unlearn everything about dieting and uncover their inner intuitive eater! She loves helping women that feel trapped by dieting and the scale. Her mission is to help them to improve their relationship with their body and food so they live and be the women they were created to be. Wendie has a holistic and well rounded approach to physical and mental health and how food factors in to our lives and mindsets. We talked about her food personality quiz and I highly recommend you take it! Turns out I am a "no shame eater", which works well for me because in all honesty, I thought about a donut for much of this episode. If you struggle with food, have ever struggled with food, or just want food to be easy -- please listen to this episode. Wendie's approach makes a good deal of sense and feels incredibly ease-ful. Please join me for this vibrant episode with the amazing Karen O’Conner, founder of the Menopause, Marriage, and Motherhood podcast. Karen is dynamic woman who sought answers from her own experience through menopause, and then went on to further share what she found out with the world. After raising four children, Karen found herself smack bang in the middle of menopause and with zero idea of what to do with her life. Depressed, lonely and majorly hormonal, she was shamefully convinced that she was the only person who felt this way, as every other woman she knew seemed to have their act together. But as she began to talk to people, she realized that most women going through midlife experience a similar sort of thing. She also realized that even though menopause is something that 50% of the population will experience, it's neither understood not discussed enough. Karen started her podcast, blog, and Facebook group to bring this topic into the forefront of the conversation with grace, humor, and a style all her own. We have a great chat and clarify what menopause actually is, signs we can watch for as we go through perimenopause, and how we can maintain steady and sure footing as we go through these biological changes. If you are a man and think this episode isn’t for you—think again! If you have any women in your life who you care about, learning and understanding what they go through throughout the lifetime of their hormonal cycles will surely make life for pleasant for both of you! Humanual may be one of the best books I have ever had the pleasure to read, and speaking with the author, Betsy Polatin, was s special treat unto itself. Betsy Polatin, MFA, SEP is an internationally recognized breathing/movement specialist and best-selling author. She has been teaching for more than forty years and is currently a master lecturer at Boston University’s College of Fine Arts. Her background includes forty-five years of movement education and performance, as well as training in the Alexander Technique, music, dance, yoga, meditation, trauma resolution, and the broader healing arts. Her work is greatly influenced by the teachings of Spiritual and Meditation Masters. Betsy leads international trainings where she presents her unique and revolutionary fusion of ideas: scientific knowledge combined with ancient wisdom and intuitive human creativity. Since 2016, she has been co-teaching ongoing workshops with Peter A. Levine, PhD. And she has taught “Returning to Ourselves, the Wisdom of Trauma,” with Dr. Gabor Maté. Betsy’s previous book, The Actor’s Secret, was featured on ABC TV and Fox News, and received rave reviews. As a well-known educator, she has published numerous articles in the Huffington Post. She maintains a private practice online internationally. I left this interview feeling calm, happy, and in a state of flow and expansion. I wish the same for anyone who chooses to listen to it! If you like science and sobriety, you'll love this episode. Gillian Tietz is the host and producer of The Sober Powered Podcast, where she uses her own story and scientific knowledge to break down complex concepts of how alcohol affects our brains, bodies, and biochemistry. Gill is a biochemist in the Boston area. She has recently celebrated 1 year of sobriety, after 5 years of attempting to learn how to moderate her drinking. When she quit drinking, she became passionate about researching addiction science. Using her scientific background, she set out on a quest to learn why she can't drink like everyone else. Gill loves to share this information and hopes she can help people either quit drinking a little sooner or to reduce their shame around being a problem drinker. Gillian is a delight and shares her story in a beautiful and open manner, bringing so much relatability to the show. We talk about the many factors that can influence a person to become a problem drinker or alcoholic, and ways we can begin to change our lives for the better if we do identify as problem drinkers. This is a sweet and well informed episode, so much so that I had to publish it right away and share it with all of you! Judy draws upon her extensive experience with multiple modalities such as energy healing, ceremonial work, and trauma therapy to create an individual plan for each client’s healing and spiritual development. She has just published her first work, a short story called "The Magic Tree," which is part of the anthology, "Crappy to Happy." A full-length memoir, called "Machete Woman," about her days as a shamanic apprentice will be published soon. We discuss her journey within the world of shamanism, what it was like to be a woman in the jungle, and how important staying centered is when working with elemental energy. We also had plenty of time to talk about one of my favorite subjects, Somatic Experiencing, and the very specific ways Judy uses this work in conjunction with her Shamanic practices. This is a wonderful episode that left me feeling expansive and open to magic and wonder. See what it does for you! Bruce Parry has lived an incredibly adventurous life. He has traveled and led expeditions to some of the most remote regions of the world and lived with indigenous people around the globe. Bruce is an English documentarian and indigenous rights advocate, having produced the documentary series Tribe, Amazon, and Artic for the BBC, showing Bruce exploring extreme environments and living with remote indigenous peoples and highlighting many of the important issues being faced on the environmental front line. In my conversation with Bruce, I was curious to hear how his widespread travels and adventures have impacted him personally, and how this dictates his past and current lifestyle and practices. We talk psychedelics, silent Vipassanna meditation, and the awareness found in foraging. Bruce is an environment advocate, having witnessed firsthand the destruction brought to tribal people by ongoing and disruptive development in remote regions. He is also well practiced in ceremonial psychedelics, from a personal standpoint as well as an observational one. As my own work focuses on anxiety and trauma resolution, I was curious to hear his thoughts on how stress and trauma show up in tribal cultures, and what the sense of living with a truly egalitarian people feels like. I was quite excited to speak with Bruce for many reasons, my own great love of the wilderness and adventure first and foremost. I also have a deep sense of responsibility for being a steward on the planet, and love Bruce’s take on how we must all “fall in love with nature” to begin restoring and protecting our natural and wild places. In the midst of an incredibly tumultuous time, I wanted to provide a sweet episode with a message of healing and hope. This is not to deny or gloss over the racial injustice and subsequent protesting and looting that is currently occurring in the United States. As a white woman, I am well aware of my privilege, and am learning how to be an ally. If you fall in a similar category, please take a look at some of the links I have posted below. What I can do is discuss trauma and healing, and I am grateful to introduce you to one of the finest people and most brilliant healers I know in this episode. Jason Michael Stepina is a Certified Shiva Murti Healer, Certified deep tissue and shiatsu practitioner, an amazing artist and so much more. He also happens to be one of my best friends on the planet. Jason and I discuss our personal history together and how we met many moons ago at The Heartwood Institute, a live in school for the healing arts up in the northern CA mountains. Jason shares about his own journey with sobriety and the many pivotal moments he has had since becoming sober that have led him along his healing journey. We dip into the power behind leaning into uncomfortable feelings, and the space and release that comes with having the capacity to actually feel them. Jason shares his work with the Balinese healing practice of Shiva Murti, and describes some of the benefits he has received as well as those he sees in his clients. We talk about the power of remembering we are all magical humans on the planet, and that embracing our magical powers as humans does not mean we are cut off from reality, but on the contrary, it allows us to be more present and engaged and grounded with our lives. I am Ginger Burr’s newest fan, and I think you probably will be to when you listen to this episode! For 33 years, Ginger Burr, President of Total Image Consultants, has helped women around the world create a wardrobe they love by connecting with their inner essence. She is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College and the author of That’s So You! Create a look you love with beauty, style and grace. Ginger has been interviewed by Worth Magazine, Forbes Magazine, FoxNews and Bloomberg Business. In this episode, she enlightens us to the difference between fashion and style, and offers tangible ways that we can develop and embrace our personal style well into our 40s and beyond. Ginger works from the inside out and has a process to identify the four inner beauty words that are unique to each individual. She helps me to dig into one of my own words, and I reminisce about some of my favorite clothes as a kid. Ginger makes having a sense of style and dressing as a representation of our inner self seem do-able and FUN! She has systems that take the guesswork out of getting dressed in the morning, and encourages all of us to not settle for “good enough” when it comes to selecting our clothes because it is such a huge representation of how we feel. I have truly loved clothes since I was a little kid, and had very specific ideas from an early age on what went with what and how to wear it. Fast forward to my life now and I am climbing over rocks most days, and can’t seem to combine that with wanting to dress as a joyful professional woman. Ginger has helped me see this is not only possible, but knowing a few simple things can help immensely in creating my personal style. What a great conversation, and I know you will love the passion and delight Ginger brings to her work. Matt is clearly a skilled clinician, educator, and innovative thinker. He excels at examining the latest scientific research regarding our global relationship with stress, and more importantly, what we can do about it. In this interview, we discuss the flow state, how it changes the brain, and ways we are able to easily access it within our busy lives. Matt discusses his own journey with practicing Tai Chi, and how an almost accidental daily practice led to remarkable decreases in stress and anxiety within his daily life. He shares his realization that yin/yang is a lifestyle and that in our culture of spending long hours in front a computer, sitting meditation may not be the best choice for a daily practice, and how tai chi can become a meditation of movement practice. We talk about the changing world of physical therapy, the forward placement of telehealth, and how we must transition to a whole body approach to treatment. if any of these topics grab you, I promise you will love the flow and storytelling in this episode! Welcome to the first episode in my "Women who Shine" series. As an entrepreneur, I am always interested in what makes some people take the leap, and reach amazing levels of personal and professional success, even when the odds may be seemingly stacked against them. So, I decided to launch a series on highlighting these women for inspiration and education. I know you will enjoy this conversation as much as I did, it was a genuine pleasure to catch up with an old friend and learn more about her mindset and her journey. Deborah is the kind of woman you read about on the cover of magazines and wonder if she can possibly be real., her story and success are simply astounding. I am here to tell you, she is indeed real, and one of the most genuine people I have ever met. Deborah is an elite performance expert and strategist, and has earned a reputation for her no "BS" speaking, coaching, and training methods in the worlds of high performing business executives and professional athletes from around the world. She has been dubbed "the secret weapon" of pro golfers, MLB players and NFL players. Deborah understands the mindset of high achievers because she is one. With only a high school diploma, Deborah catapulted her career from answering phones as a receptionist to become the owner/CEO of a $20 million corporation. After selling the corporation Deborah founded ClearEdge, LLC. She is a living, breathing example of the financial success and freedom that is possible when you do not allow circumstances, education, society, hardships or economics define who you are or you can become. Deborah is also one of the most grounded people I know, and does not approach success with a push, push, push mentality. Rather, she works in conjunction with her emotional state and psychological well being. We cover topics like race car driving and shark diving, along with neurological patterns and how we can begin to shift them in our favor to create the lifestyles we desire. If you are currently facing mental health or medical emergency, call 911 immediately. The Peacemaker's Podcast EP004 Shownotes Recorded on April 9, 2020, one month into the COVID-19 quarantine for Lindsey's family. Check out the link below to see her video giving an update on her family and the podcast since the quarantine started. In today's episode, Lindsey talks about type nine's tendency to “fall asleep to themselves”. The Wisdom of the Enneagram says we type nines are “more devoted to any other number to the quest for internal and external peace” (Riso and Hudson). Have you been noticing yourself pulling away from others during this quarantine time? What about in general during other times of stress? When nines encounter stress we can go inward and get quiet, pull away from others, and require more alone time than normal. We may notice ourselves experiencing more feelings of anger or anxiety. As a type nine, we have developed many patterns over our life as a way of protecting ourselves from stress or harm, so it would be perfectly normal if our “nine patterns” are rearing their heads during this COVID 19 crisis. The type nine is often referred to as being slothlike - and you may not relate to this because you feel very active outwardly. But you may be falling asleep inwardly to your desires and feelings. Lindsey shared a story about how she used to stare out the window in the car when she was younger and retreat into her inner world (5:15). As a nine, because we can be out of touch with ourselves, we may not have a very strong opinion about what we want. It may take some digging on our parts to figure out our opinions. One of the members of the The Peacemaker's Community FB Group, “Jonathan” shares about himself and his way of processing the world as a nine. (7:45) Jonathan talks about the Enneagram and how it has been a revelation for him to realize how he's fallen asleep to himself and his needs. He talks about being the youngest child in his family and that he often didn't want to do or say the wrong thing. He started playing the role of the “good child” from a young age. He said that even now as an adult, he easily falls into the role of keeping peace with others and he “edits” himself in conversations with others (unknowingly) as a means to keep his opinions to himself and maintain a connection with others. (10:40) The Enneagram speaks to our motivations, so it doesn't matter as much what your interests are or your life experiences are or if you are an extrovert or introvert. People from all walks of life and backgrounds can come to be “peacemakers” and Enneagram research tells us that this happens as a result of both our genetics and environment (nature and nurture). The closing challenge for the listener: Give yourself time! This process of knowing ourselves, learning more about our Enneagram numbers and accessing our emotions/feelings and opinions is a journey! Give yourself a lot of grace in this process and recognize that it's going to be a lifelong journey. The goal isn't to undo all of our patterns, but to recognize them and put yourself in a position to choose new directions and reactions in our lives. If you love an Enneagram Type 9, ask them questions, give them time to respond, and ask follow-up questions! We don't always know right away what we want or need, so it might take some time! What a GREAT episode! I catch up with first time REPEAT GUEST: Justin Sunseri, lfmt in a late night chat. (Late for me because it was 9pm ) Justin continues to do amazing work in the world teaching about the Polyvagal theory and ways to address challenges from a perspective of being stuck, not broken. He utilizes this hash tag on his website and Instagram accounts, #stucknotbroken, to reinforce the idea that people are not broken or unfixable, they just may need some help getting un-stuck. He has a wonderfully informative podcast, The Polyvagal podcast, that serves to provides information on the polyvagal theory, good standards and practices for therapy, and ways you can begin thinking about “stuckness” from a new approach. Justin has been working with underprivileged youth and families since graduating in 2008. This experience has been accumulated through various settings, including: school-based, outpatient, residential, juvenile hall and suicide/crisis phone center. Justin’s entire career (so far) has been working directly with children, teens and their parents. Modalities include: educational or therapeutic parenting groups, family therapy, play therapy and individual traditional talk therapy. In this episode we discuss the importance and ease of implementing play, what we think people are doing during quarantine, and my own personal green dragon in the bathtub. I had a wonderful time speaking with Justin and I think that enjoyment comes through in this episode. Please come and celebrate the simple joy of human connection around topics you may love as much as I do: how our body and nervous system respond to stress and what we can do about it, ways to be more in the present moment, and of course, SE and the polyvagal theory. Join me as Clare Pooley tells her story through having a lovely life and home yet dealing secretly with alcohol addiction. She shares the ways she was struggling and how writing helped her to change her life. Clare began her sober journey with the help of an anonymous sober blog, Mummy was a Secret Drinker, and found comfort and healing not only in the writing itself, but in the community and vast legions of women who reached out and identified with her story. Clare touched and influenced thousands with her blog, and went on to publish her first novel, a memoir, The Sober Diaries, which detailed the trials, tribulations, and humor found in her first year of sobriety. I was lucky to read Clare's latest book and first novel, The Authenticity Project, a few weeks prior to the release date and I truly loved it. It was wonderful to speak with her about character development, the affection she feels for her characters, and how she goes about her writing process. Clare speaks on how living with addiction in "secret" led her to develop the ideas and characters for this novel as she wondered what would happen if we all just started telling the truth about our lives. Clare is a delightful human being with a wonderful sense of humor (cheeky, as they say) who has turned her world around and offered hope and inspiration to thousands of women through her writing. If you are looking for a novel that will touch your heart, make you think, and delight you to your core--I cannot recommend her book enough. Emmy Brunner is a rock star in her own right. As a psychotherapist specializing in trauma and eating disorders, she had a vision of a treatment center where the whole person, not the diagnosis, guided the treatment. She has seen that vision come to life and thrive with the Recover Clinic, Europe’s leading specialist outpatient service, treating sufferers of trauma, depression, body dysmorphia, anxiety and eating disorders. She founded the Recover Clinic in 2007 and has since built a community and helped thousands of women in creating a new path forward from trauma and eating disorders. She had a vision of treating the whole person, and empowering her patients and clients to take part in their own healing journey. She has brought that very real vision to fruition. I love speaking with powerful women who saw a need for a change in their field and went out and created what was needed. Emmy is incredibly inspiring and kind, and her passion and expertise with her work had me wishing we had another hour to chat. If you are looking for support in making new changes this time of year, and possibly feeling overwhelmed--> you will LOVE this episode. In our chat, Alexandra goes far beyond a checklist for better sleep and discusses the importance of understanding our relationship with sleep and how it has evolved throughout our lifetime, and what we can do to create better lasting habits that lead to consistent glowing sleep. One of my favorite parts of our talk was the awareness Alexandra brought to developing a nightly habit of creating space for "being" in between "doing" and "sleeping" to allow our bodies, minds, and spirits to wind down and prepare for a night of glorious and glowing rest. BankBosun Podcast | Banking Risk Management | Banking Executive Podcast
A Banker’s Voice is Mightier than the Pen and the Sword. We have entered the era of total competition. No matter your industry, company, or nationality, there is a battle-ready competitor somewhere who is busy thinking how to beat you. There are no safe havens. Yet the hard truth, for all the talk of new paradigms, reengineering, and organizational learning, is that most executives in most companies are still equipped to fight the last war. Their strategic assumptions, management structures, information systems, and training programs are geared to a competitive battlefield that no longer exists. The rules of engagement have changed. Strategic mind-sets have not. In the life-or-death quest for strategic change, business has much to learn from war. Both are about the same thing: succeeding in competition. Even more basic, both can be distilled to four words: informed choice; timely action. The key objective in competition - whether business or war - is to improve your organization's performance along these dimensions: To generate better information than your rivals do To analyze that information and make sound choices To make those choices quickly To convert strategic choices into decisive action Together they represent informed choice/timely action. This is Kelly Coughlin, CEO of BankBosun, helping bank C-Suite Executives manage risk and discover reward. Kelly Coughlin is the CEO of BankBosun, a management consulting firm helping bank C Level Officers navigate risk and discover reward. He is the host of the syndicated audio podcast, BankBosun.com. Kelly brings over 25 years of experience with companies like PWC, Lloyds Bank, and Merrill Lynch. On the podcast Kelly interviews key executives in the banking ecosystem to provide bank C suite officers, risk management, technology, and investment ideas and solutions to help them navigate risks and discover rewards. And now your host, Kelly Coughlin. Greetings, this is Kelly Coughlin, CEO of BankBosun, helping bank C Suite execs with risk, regulation and revenue creation in a sea of threats and opportunities. Just to remind you, in case you don’t recall from podcast shows from last year, a bosun is a nautical term referring to the crew member on a ship that helps the sea captain (that’s S E A ) in all areas of the ship’s navigation, operations and management. As such bankbosun, me, I’m the crew member that helps you, the C-Suite Captain of your ship – your bank – in all areas of risk, regulation and revenue creation. Got it…pretty creative isn’t it. Here’s a boatswains whistle for you.. Today’s podcast is on revenue creation. And specifically the use of audio podcasting as a cost-effective tactic to get your value proposition communicated to your market to get new customers and create new revenues. Some smart guy, they don’t actually know who, said “The pen is mightier than the sword,” implying that a person can change the opinion of others with words more effectively than with force and violence. Well, I have a corollary or addendum to that. It goes like this: While the pen is mightier than the sword, the voice is mightier than both. Some of you might remember the TV ads against drugs. I think they were in the 80s led by Nancy Reagan. It went like this. A guy picks up a whole egg. And says, this is your brain. And then the guy cracks the egg in a hot skillet with scalding hot grease and it bubbles up and he says, “this is your brain on drugs.” Well, you might ask, what the heck does that have to do with banks and revenue creation. Permit me to demonstrate. Here is a mashup of some sales pitch lines from five top financial advisors in the US. Here is what the sound like when they are READ by their intended audience in say printed material. This equates to the brain on drugs. The fried egg. I’m a professional wealth manager who provides custom financial solutions for your unique financial challenges and goals. My entire firm is passionate about helping people like you make smart financial decisions. We help people make sound decisions to enjoy a full life. My expertise is in the development, implementation and ongoing management of a customized portfolio builder and diversification strategy created just for you. Personally, my mission is to help you build wealth and successfully maintain your financial security every step of the way. Boo There it is…financial planning platitudes fried up in the skillet. Here is what it sounds like when the reader has taken your printed material and put it in their briefcase to read on the plane. Professional wealth manager…custom financial solutions… financial challenges…passionate….helping people …sound decision…expertise…implementation…management…customized portfolio… diversification….mission…wealth…financial security. Flight attendant, would you please take this and throw it out. Now, here is what they sound like when they are HEARD. This equates to the healthy brain, the whole fresh egg. Cheers Academy award nominations for that performance would be much appreciated. I hope you can see…rather hear that the human voice, your voice is the key. Your voice showing what I call the three Es: emotion, emphasis and empathy. These are the key and critical differences. Even today, in this world where people are obsessed with digital communications, email, and texting - people are hungry for the communication and connection of the human voice…your voice. Here is what I propose and I guarantee it will help your bank claim market share and grow revenues. You create a podcast channel with your brand – ABC Bank Podcast show – once or twice per month with one or more representatives of your company…from your CEO down to your product technical specialists would be interviewed and recorded. We talk about your industry; your market space; the needs, issues and challenges your customers face. And what your industry does to help them deal with those needs, issues and challenges; and why and how you are so much better and different than anyone else. We can even interview your customer prospects. Trust me on this, it’s a great way to build a relationship with a prospect. You are put in a position where you get to truly LISTEN to them and show empathy for them. An opportunity to understand their outlook on life, family, business world. It’s a great way to build a relationship with existing customers and more importantly with prospective customers. But the real hidden benefit…and it truly is the secret sauce…the algorithm…the black box….that I am going to share with you and you alone in this podcast. I call it tactical ecosystem marketing. In short it works like this…you include in your podcast program interviews with anyone and everyone who exists in your banking ecosystem. Picture your bank and your customers as a big coral reef. And you have all these creatures, eels, sharks, groupers, all swimming around the reef. Let’s say your ecosystem is banking services for individual lending, business lending, personal wealth management and trust services, private client; portfolio management for institutional accounts and of course traditional depository banking. That’s a big reef. Some of you might not have trust and wealth management by example. Regardless, there are many, many influencers who exist in this ecosystem. You have accountants, lawyers, pension consultants, board member of pension plans, other business owners, all of whom have desires to get their brand and name exposed to your entire ecosystem. Your goal is to keep building a big-league ecosystem. The traditional way of building this ecosystem is to exchange business cards and hope like heck the other members will think of you when an opportunity comes up. And then you periodically follow-up with them to make sure they continue to think of you. A better way is to include them all in your bank podcast program. Interview them. Record it. They will want to send out the link to the podcast to all their clients, this gets your name out there in front of all their clients. They benefit. You benefit. You create value and you capture revenues. Big banks and brokers can’t do this, because they can’t possibly let their local branches create their own messages in any media, but certainly not audio podcast channel. And financial advisors don’t have the diverse products lines… depository, credit, insurance and wealth management to offer. They talk about a few of these product lines. Banks have many products and services to talk about…I’m going to list a handful so you can get an idea on what I’m talking about… Here’s some podcasts related to your bank’s culture and market position: History, Mission and Purpose of Your Bank Community Involvement in Your Bank The Importance of Community Banks in the Community Here’s some Podcasts related to Wealth Management: Why do I need a wealth manager when I can use the Internet? Is there a difference in fees between banks, brokers and financial advisors? Are brokers fiduciaries? Are bank fiduciaries? Do I need a fiduciary? What is a fiduciary? Podcasts related to Lending: Five issues that kill a business loan Which is more important for a bank loan: Revenue, Profits or Assets? Accounting records: Will and audit help me get a business loan? And how about some podcasts related to trust accounts: Can a broker serve as a trustee for my kids’ trust accounts? If a bank fails are my stocks, bonds and mutual funds guaranteed? Do I need a trust account? These are just a handful of topics. We could go into financial instruments…explaining what mutual funds are..or portfolio risk…portfolio management…the topics are unlimited. The goal is to get your target audience whether it be current customers or prospective customers, listening to your messages. Sun Tzu said, to beat your enemy you must Avoid his strengths and attack his weaknesses. The weakness of big banks and brokers is all marketing and branding and promotion comes out of their centralized corporate office. Imagine a top ten bank allowing its 500 branches creating their own podcast channel…it just ain’t gonna happen. But a community and regional bank can easily do this. So, don’t listen to me…listen to Sun Tzu, ”Avoid the strengths of your competitors and attack their weaknesses.” There are a couple additional benefits to a more human connection you get with audio it allows executives to multi-task while listening like driving, exercise, watching a sports event on TV. Now, you might ask, if the human voice is so important why don’t I just call them on the phone. Answer: Because you are interrupting them when you call them. And it’s not repeatable and shareable. With a recorded audio podcast, you give your audience the opportunity to hear from you at their time and place of choice in a non-intrusive way. And many of the business development people like trust officers, wealth management execs and credit officers at banks aren’t real keen on cold-calling…like brokers in a bullpen. But sending links to podcasts and following up on that…well that is a much different story. Memorializing your story in an audio podcast is so much more effective than sending them a printed document. By the way we transcribe all our podcasts. So you get both the printed and audio media. But this enables you to tell your story once with the energy and passion it deserves, and then have it shared between husband and wife and even kids to help them get more educated on your bank or among board members or officers for commercial business. Millennials connect with this. Since they hate talking on the phone and dread stepping foot in your bank, so we are told. Well, that’s my story, and I’m sticking with it. I encourage all of you to give serious consideration of this. It will generate new customers and new revenues…guaranteed. I know banks don’t have a lot of discretionary funds. So, I am all about coming up with a program that you can afford. The investment in this program can range from zero, for banks holding bank owned life insurance asset or if you don’t have that asset, a one-time fee to generate one or two podcasts for the year or a monthly fee to generate one or more podcasts each month. The average fees are about $3,000/month for a monthly program. Give me a call at 612-232-6640 or send me an email at Kellycoughlin@bankbosun.com Thank you for listening.
