I was not planning to record a podcast episode, but after watching Keke Palmer's TED Talk, “How I Set Myself Free,” something moved me. In this episode, I'm reflecting on what it means to set yourself free, not in theory, but in real life. Free from fear being bigger than faith. Free from worst-case scenario thinking. Free from performing. Free from living by terms other people gave you. I'm on my own journey of setting myself free, and this episode is an invitation for you to think about what freedom looks like for you. Because many people are functioning, but not free. So ask yourself, have you set yourself free? Link to Keke's Ted Talk https://youtu.be/RvzgUtjCxRw?si=fRRrVo41wdPYTj7f

What does 55+ living look like today? The profile of the 55+ homebuyer has shifted significantly in recent years. No longer defined by slowing down, today's buyers are more active, connected and intentional in how they live. Jaime Godwin, director of marketing at Kolter Homes, joins Host Carol Morgan on Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio to discuss how Kolter's Cresswind brand is reshaping 55+ communities with a focus on lifestyle, connection and accessible home design. Today's 55+ Buyer Is Tech-Savvy and Lifestyle-Driven “Tech-savvy and health-conscious…those two things stand out the most,” Godwin said. “Five or 10 years ago, the focus was on slowing down and relaxing during retirement. Now, there's a complete shift.” Many buyers are still working—either remotely or in consulting roles—and prioritize high-speed connectivity, dedicated workspaces and wellness-focused amenities. Staying connected to family, friends and professional networks remains essential. Lifestyle Programming Drives Buying Decisions While home design still matters, it is no longer the primary factor in many buyers' decisions. “The home is the ‘where,' but the lifestyle is the ‘why,'” Godwin said. Buyers may fall in love with a floor plan, but the community's social environment, amenities and programming ultimately influence their decisions. Fitness classes, clubs, concerts and events create a built-in lifestyle that extends far beyond the home. Breaking the “Retirement Community” Stereotype Despite how far 55+ communities have evolved, outdated perceptions still linger among some buyers. One of the most common misconceptions is that these neighborhoods are quiet, low-energy environments where residents are largely disengaged from active lifestyles. Residents are often more active than before, with access to on-site amenities, social events and clubs that eliminate the need to travel for entertainment or connection. Everything is designed to be convenient and accessible within the community. Buyers Are Moving Earlier Than Ever Another notable trend is the rise of “pre-retirees.” These buyers often move in before fully retiring. “They start researching around 50…making the decision around 55 to 60,” Godwin said. Rather than waiting for retirement, these buyers establish their lifestyle early while continuing to work, allowing them to build relationships and settle into their communities sooner. “Right-Sizing” Replaces Downsizing Today's buyers are not necessarily looking to downsize—they are looking to “right-size.” Popular features include: Bonus rooms for guests or gatherings Expanded outdoor living spaces Open-concept layouts that connect indoor and outdoor areas Large, functional kitchens with walk-in pantries These elements prioritize flexibility, functionality and entertaining and reflect how buyers want to live day to day. Cresswind's “Set Yourself Free” Lifestyle Kolter Homes brings its lifestyle philosophy to life through its Cresswind communities, built around the “Set Yourself Free” approach: fitness, relationships, education and entertainment. Residents benefit from a full-time lifestyle director who curates events and programming. This intentional programming helps transform neighbors into friends and fosters a strong sense of community. “All our residents have to do is show up and enjoy,” Godwin said. “They don't have to put effort into facilitating the lifestyle.” Standout Communities in Metro Atlanta Kolter Homes continues to see strong demand across its metro Atlanta communities. Cresswind Georgia at Twin Lakes Located in Hoschton, Cresswind Georgia at Twin Lakes has established itself as one of the top-selling 55+ communities in metro Atlanta for multiple years, driven by large-scale planning, natural setting and amenity-rich design. The community's appeal begins with its unique environment, featuring private lakes that create a strong sense of arrival and distinguish it from traditional residential developments. This natural backdrop helps shape the overall lifestyle experience and reinforces a connection to outdoor living and recreation. Beyond its setting, the community is defined by its unique amenities and programming. Residents have access to a two-story clubhouse on the water, along with indoor and outdoor resort-style pools that support year-round activity. Fitness and recreation are further enhanced by an extensive network of pickleball courts and gathering spaces designed to encourage social engagement. Cresswind at Spring Haven In Newnan, Cresswind at Spring Haven continues to gain momentum as it introduces a new phase of homesites that expands both the community's options and its lifestyle offerings. The latest release includes scenic homesites with water views, enhanced privacy and natural surroundings that emphasize a quieter, more picturesque residential setting. This phase is designed to appeal to buyers seeking a stronger connection to nature while still maintaining access to the full range of community amenities and programming that defines the Cresswind brand. A key milestone in the community's continued growth is the upcoming opening of Club Cresswind, which will serve as a central hub for resident events and activities. From thoughtfully designed homes to robust programming and amenities, today's 55+ communities are redefining what it means to live well in the next chapter of life. Do not waver. God is not a man that He should lie, the Bible says. There is peace and freedom in His presence, even in the midst of the storm.

Forgiveness isn't about excusing others—it's about healing yourself. In this transformative episode, forgiveness expert Dara Mckinley introduces a revolutionary approach to forgiveness as a healing modality, blending somatic awareness, emotional processing, and the power of unconditional love. Through her personal story of betrayal and recovery, Dara reveals why traditional forgiveness methods often fail and how we can use the “divine mind” within us to access the wisdom and love necessary for deep healing. Learn how to identify the emotions that keep us stuck, liberate yourself from looping narratives, and transform pain into peace. With practical tools like somatic practices, creative externalisation, and self-compassion, this episode is a guide to achieving emotional freedom. Whether you're healing from a single wound, enduring ongoing challenges, or grappling with generational pain, this conversation will inspire you to embrace forgiveness as the ultimate act of self-love. About Dara Mckinley In 2012, Dara Mckinley's life took a profound turn when two decades of experience in psychology and spirituality failed to help her navigate a deeply challenging situation. Desperate for relief, she turned to forgiveness but found that while there was plenty of discussion on why to forgive, there was little guidance on how. Determined to heal, she developed her own step-by-step process and experienced a breakthrough, finding peace for the first time in three years. This transformative experience sparked a lifelong devotion to forgiveness as a powerful healing modality. Recognising that mainstream forgiveness definitions often obscure the true path to healing, Dara created How to Forgive, a practical and spiritual framework that guides people in transforming pain into peace. Today, Dara empowers others to move beyond conventional forgiveness narratives, offering a clear, actionable process to heal wounds, restore balance, and reclaim their emotional freedom. Has your inner voice been quashed or silenced? Do you feel small or unseen due to the forces of your upbringing, relationships, or society? Do you wish you could take up space, speak your truth, and show up as your authentic self without fear or making apologies? Dr. Carla has found that many people have lost the courage–or never developed the ability–to use their authentic voice because they learned (often early on in life) that they had to be quiet, "good," or obedient in order to be loved or found worthy. But she's here to help you discover that the opposite is true: Genuine love–for the self and with others–comes from the freedom of knowing and expressing your inner truth. By discovering and embracing the power of your own vibrant voice, you can set yourself free to live fearlessly–if imperfectly. “The closer he got to the realization of his dream, the more difficult things became.”– Paulo Coelho, The AlchemistHave you ever noticed that the closer you get to your goals, the more intense the challenges seem to become? This stage is where our greatest fears rise to the surface and we are tested to our core.In this episode of Love & Learn, we explore The Approach to the Inmost Cave and The Ordeal—two key stages of the Hero's Journey reflected in Santiago's story in The Alchemist. These trials push him to his limits, but also pave the way for his ultimate transformation. In this episode, we'll uncover:How Santiago's journey through the desert represents the difficult Tests and Trials we all faceThe Inmost Cave, where our deepest fears reside, and how we must face them to growWhy surrendering to the unknown is key to navigating the OrdealHow transformation happens when we let go of the old and trust in the processActionable steps to apply Santiago's lessons to your life:Face Your Greatest Challenges: Like Santiago, we all face moments where we must confront our deepest fears. Instead of avoiding these challenges, consider them opportunities for growth. Ask yourself: What is my “Inmost Cave”? What fear or obstacle am I ready to face?Surrender to the Unknown: Santiago's greatest test, the Ordeal, required him to let go of control and trust in something greater. In your own life, reflect on where you might be holding on too tightly and how you can embrace the unknown. Let go of control, and trust the process.Embrace the Transformation: Transformation happens after we've faced our greatest fears. By surrendering to the process, we are reborn into a new version of ourselves. Remember, it's often in the moments of greatest difficulty that we grow the most.As Santiago shows us, the Ordeal is not about mastering the world around you, but about trusting in the flow of life and allowing yourself to be transformed by it.ALL CONCEPTS FROM THE ALCHEMISTOvercoming DOUBT: How to Listen to the Universe's SignsStepping into the UNKNOWN: Overcoming Fear and Embracing ChangeIt's DARKEST before the dawnCONNECT WITH PAULO COELHOWebsiteBooksInstagramCONNECT WITH JESSICA FLINTWebsiteRetreatInstagram

What's The Truth
What You Need to Know About Forgiveness, Reconciliation, and Repentance (Set Yourself Free from the Painful Relationships the Biblical Way)

What's The Truth

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 31, 2024 21:18

I want to talk about something that is tough, but super important - forgiveness, reconciliation, and repentance.  For years, I struggled with what others expected me to do versus what God told me. It was a constant battle because these opinions came from people I deeply respected. But every time, something inside me stopped. It took years and some recent experiences to realize that this hesitation was God protecting me. People often confuse forgiveness and reconciliation, thinking they're the same thing. But they're not. And repentance isn't just about saying sorry to excuse bad behavior—it's about truly changing. Forgiveness starts with God — it's not just about saying, “I forgive you.” It's about letting go of resentment while still acknowledging the pain. Reconciliation, on the other hand, is like two people with drawbridges. Both have to be willing to lower their bridges to rebuild the connection. Trust isn't instantly restored; it has to be earned and maintained. Repentance means turning back to God. It's a genuine response to godly sorrow, which is a profound recognition of our sins and shortcomings. This sorrow leads to repentance, changing our minds, hearts, and direction. It's redemptive and life-giving, making us more receptive to God's grace and compassionate towards others. No matter the relationship—whether it's with a friend, family member, partner, or spouse—these three elements will always be part of the process if both people are willing to work on it.  Rooting for you, Jessica Next steps: Get my free 3-day study and learn how to deal with your emotions in a biblical way: https://www.jessicahottle.com/3-day-study/ Work with me 1:1 as your mental health coach: https://www.coachjessica.com Check out my biblical studies: https://www.jessicahottle.com/shop Work with me in my Untangle Your Thoughts program: https://www.jessicahottle.com/heal Email me at >> jessica@jessicahottle.com

Original Airdate: February 20, 2019Best-selling author, speaker and teacher Byron Katie shares how she believes we can end our own suffering forever. Katie, as she is known, guides us through her powerful process of inquiry she calls “The Work.” She says we can radically shift our stressful beliefs about our lives, other people and ourselves. Katie explains that all the problems in the world originate in our thinking and gives us the tools to open our minds and set ourselves free. Based on her own experience of how suffering is created and ended, Katie says her simple process is accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds and requires nothing more than a pen, paper and an open mind. Katie is the founder of “Byron Katie International,” an organization that includes The School for the Work and Turnaround House in Ojai, California. TIME magazine describes her as "a spiritual innovator for the 21st century."
