Well, as Bridget Jones once said.. "we.. singletons.." and we'll add familytons.. What happens when we truly come together in community?Perspective, connection, and more.Yet, it's so easy to get caught up in the "right now" and not see beyond that.Been there hundreds of times....What if we even scheduled it in?Or, asked the singletons to remind us?Or?I firmly believe this brings sooo much to all involved..connection.....Support the showIMPERFECT PARENTING:*Free parenting meditation*https://mailchi.mp/965b821ebde2/imperfectparentingfreeminimeditation1 Free parent de-stress tips:http://bit.ly/34TmARwInstagram: @Ip_parenting Tik tok @imperfectparentingariel Website:https://imperfectparenting.netWrite me: Ariel@imperfectparenting.net______ WORKING WITH FERTILITY?Join our private Fertility Coaching Circle https://mailchi.mp/6bf27333a04d/eyl88itb3g-fertility-inner-circle-ariel-green-andersson FREE Fertility Meditation: https://mailchi.mp/00ddad27abb2/freefertilitymeditation223Instagram and Tik tok: @arielgreenanderssonWrite: Ariel@agreenbalancedlife.com*Looking to get pregnant over 40? https://bit.ly/2ZbPSdk *Experienced pregnancy loss? In this episode, we are thrilled to welcome Jean Hoffman Lewanda back to the podcast to discuss her new book, Shalama: My 96 Seasons in China, published by Earnshaw Books. Listeners may recall Jean's previous appearance, where she shared insights about her father, Paul Hoffman's memoir, Witness to History: From Vienna to Shanghai—A Memoir of Escape, Survival, and Resilience. That captivating memoir details how Paul fled Vienna at the age of 18 to escape the rise of Nazism, arrived in Shanghai in 1938, and became part of the historic wave of Jewish refugees who found a safe haven in China during World War II. Jean's new book enriches this family saga by recounting events from her mother Shalama's perspective but presented as historical fiction. Drawing on firsthand accounts, including her mother's, Jean tells the story in Shalama's voice, tracing the family's journey from Harbin to Shanghai during the war-torn decades of the mid-20th century. The book interweaves the family's history with major historical events, including the Sungari River flood of 1932, the Japanese occupation, and the Communist takeover of China. Ep 56: Choosing You: Art, Family, Community
Recovery is necessary after going through periods of Decision and Emotional and Physical Fatigue from being a caregiver (caregiver burnout syndrome). In this episode, our “downloading” continues but we cover and wrap up the topic of the Mental Load by hitting on these few points: Personal actions you can take How Friends, Family + Community can help Importance of Systems, processes can save and hold us up, as one of our faves states in her book, Kelley Coleman, “Systems are our Self Care!”
Many of the readers of this warm thoughts column are aware that I write these lines a week before you have the opportunity to read the column. When you read this column, I will have returned from the International Congress on the Family, which was held on July 5th - 9th in Denver, Colorado. So stay tuned to this column as I will share with you my personal experiences and thoughts from this Congress. As I write these lines, they're anticipating 6,000 participants from all over North America and around the world at this International Congress. Those who come we hope will gain a fresh perspective and a renewal of hope for the future of the family and for Christian family values. As I anticipate my attendance at this Congress, I cannot help but reflect on the International Congress for the Family held in England in July 1990. It was my joy to be in England that year and serve on the publicity committee for that Congress. Opening that Congress was the Princess of Wales and among the many outstanding speakers was Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Mother Teresa closed the conference with the theme, "Family - Community of Love." She has inspired many in servant leadership in her work with the poor and the sick. She won the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize. Her love and concern for children has inspired many people to be advocates for the children of the world. Few people have matched the contributions this saintly woman has made to mankind. Now in her 80s, she continues her service to humanity. The 1995 International Congress on the family in Denver is a joint effort of the American Association of Christian counselors and Focus on the Family. Stay tuned and experience with me a landmark event, renewing our hope together for the future of the family. Warm Thoughts: Your kindness influences your children. Your humor influences your home. I Like Your Work: Conversations with Artists, Curators & Collectors
Kim Garcia is an artist working in sculpture, drawing, and painting. Through her 2nd-generation Filipino American lens, her practice explores social dynamics and residual trauma from interpersonal relationships, community structures, and memory. Kim comes from a background in creating collaborative community projects that often employ alternative spaces to explore studio art practices, site-specific collaboration, and museum and exhibition research. She is the founder of The Cold Read, an online critique group and artist collective that engages gestures of care and support through writing and is one of the co-founders of after hours gallery, an art gallery in Los Angeles that hosts two-person exhibitions. Kim is based in Los Angeles and received her BA from UC San Diego and her MFA from UC Irvine. "Through the fusion of reality and fiction, my work emerges from personal encounters, aiming to complicate narratives surrounding second-generation Filipino American histories. I delve into the intricacies of post-colonial identity, exploring themes of intimacy and influence stemming from social interactions. Sculptures form the vibrant outcome of the work, fictionalizing personal events to probe power dynamics, trauma, community structures, and memory. Utilizing materials like medical casting tape, my artworks simultaneously display trauma and symbolize healing. Gradient colors evoke movement, while layered hues express emotional complexity. The sculptures breathe life into color, activating motion and tension. I perceive my work as a form of storytelling, where the malleability of oral narratives inspires a nuanced approach to archiving personal histories. By combining sculpture, drawing, and painting, my hybrid material practice investigates enduring tensions accumulated over time, unearthing possibilities for constructing a future from a suppressed past." Therapy Thursday!!Janet and I bare our souls as we recount the trials and victories that have shaped us, from the resilience required to pretend financial stability for our children to the relentless pursuit of education. We toast to the power of support and the indomitable spirit of perseverance, sharing tales of basketball practices where defeat turned to triumph and how the choice to attend Howard University marked a defining moment in one's life. Our conversation goes beyond personal reflection, touching on how empathy and practical solutions can transform the lives of young people grappling with literacy and behavioral challenges. We cast a thoughtful eye on societal shifts and the evolution of government assistance programs, inviting listeners into a discourse on the resilience of communities and the emergent need to rethink the status quo. With reflections on the historic resilience of urban centers in Detroit and the unspoken strength found within Section 8 housing, our discussion is a tribute to the communities and families that emerge stronger in the face of adversity. We close the episode with heartfelt gratitude, looking ahead to future gatherings and the importance of celebrating life's simple yet profound joys. A question to consider: "What is the proper role for the family, the community, and the nation in creating the conditions for prosperity?" - Alliance for Responsible Citizenship (ARC) Survey, Q3 God is detail-oriented: "You shall command the people of Israel that they bring to you pure beaten olive oil for the light, that a lamp may regularly be set up to burn. In the tent of meeting, outside the veil that is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons shall tend it from evening to morning before the Lord. It shall be a statute forever to be observed throughout their generations by the people of Israel." - Exodus 27:20-21 What to delight in and meditate on: "Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of Yahweh, and on his law he meditates day and night." - Psalm 1:1-2 This Episode's Links: A violent crowd smashed windows at UC Davis because Charlie Kirk was there... - Joel Abbott, NTB The Dutch farmers just landed a major blow to the wokies with an election win... - Joel Abbott, NTB Knives Out For DeSantis: Top Republicans Rage Over His Comments About Ukraine - Ryan Saavedra, DW --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/garrett-ashley-mullet/message

Jordan joins me for this episode where we discuss how we handle conflict and our sex life! We break down what conflict looked like at the beginning of our relationship, what it looks like now, and the different philosophies and tools we use so that we have a largely conflict-free relationship. We also talk about our sex life and how we've changed from being all about frequent hot sex into caring more about the depth of our sexual connection, and sex being less frequent. We also answer some other questions from listeners, like how we're thinking about starting a family, homeschooling, and developing community in rural areas. Especially during this month of giving and gratitude, being able to work alongside your family and serve your community at the same time is one of the most satisfying parts of dairy farming. To kick off Season 3 of Cow-Side Conversations, Jennifer Orr of Harmony Acres in Fayette County, Pennsylvania shares what sparked her family to enter the value-added space and begin bottling milk from their 170-cow herd. She reflects on their community's strong desire for a local food source, pandemic-related challenges, creative partnerships and products that were born along the way, and the memories she has built with her family throughout this journey.
Jesus intended his followers to become a family-like community. John Mark talks about how this idea of family was radical not only for first-century Jews, but also why it's just as radical for us today. Through it, he offers advice on how to build relational skills to bless and love our communities well.Key Scripture Passage: Mark 3v31-35Resources for this practice:https://practicingthewayarchives.org/practices/community

This past week we celebrated Lag Ba'Omer (5782) - marking two years of On This Day in Jewish History / Two Tall Jews Show While it sounds cliché, it is hard to comprehend the 2 year anniversary of OTDJH. When everything we do involves outlining history's process, it can be odd to alter our thinking to focus on ours. This whole process has been an exercise in turning one's passion into an obligation. So much of this journey has been about appreciating that process. Thank you for being here with us every step of the way. We are excited about what's next and excited to say we are only just getting started. On today's show we are pleased to ALSO have Rabbi Steve Leder of the Wilshire Boulevard Temple in Los Angeles. A graduate of Northwestern, Rabbi Leder received a Masters in Hebrew Letters in 1986 and his Rabbinical Ordination from Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati the following year. In 1987 he joined the Wilshire Boulevard Temple and has served as the congregation's senior rabbi since 2003. He is the author of four books and most recently, “The Beauty of What Remains: How Our Greatest Fear Becomes Our Greatest Gift” which was published in January. This week on Unreserved, an encore presentation featuring three documentaries about family, community, and healing. Sally Hart's desire to find her birth family weighed heavily on her for years. The search brought her from Vancouver to the Penelakut Nation — Jean Paetkau brings us her story in her documentary "Searching For Home." In what seems like a bit of a walking contradiction, we meet Leo Friday who – at the time of this documentary – was both the chief of Kashechewan First Nation in Ontario and a priest for the Anglican church. He's the leader of his First Nation, but also a leader for a colonial institution that has brought a lot of pain to his people. Erik White helps tell his story. Children of God is a musical that explores the legacy of residential schools through a fictitious story of one Oji-Cree family. It was written by Corey Payette, who spent hundreds of hours interviewing dozens of residential school survivors to ensure he did the story justice. Jennifer Chrumka shares Payette's story.
