This series continues with an honest conversation about the joys of serving church communities and the risks of exploitation and spiritual manipulation. Reflecting on our experiences in our black pentecostal church and in white evangelical spaces, we process what we have experienced, and survived.
Danielle Young, Director of Innovation and Business Improvement at South Jersey Industries, joins me in a conversation about innovation in a regulated industry. When you hear about natural gas, many will automatically think about fracking. But by the end of this podcast episode, you will learn many more ways in which the natural gas space is being innovated. Danielle shares her story and how she overcame resistance to change in the industry as long-serving employees perceived that innovation would slow down their work or make them do things differently, in a way they didn't understand at that time. We also discuss the importance of negotiation skills and an open-ended perspective to work with people rather than against them. Finally, we explore the new regulations that are taking place related to climate change. But, most importantly, we discuss the innovative breakthrough ideas of how we're using nature's bounty in ways you never thought possible to bring gas to our homes using renewable and reusable energy in brand new ways.

Amid the social unrest of this year, and the calls to hold accountable the cops who murdered Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade and George Floyd (among others), a new acronym came to prominence as a means to refer to marginalized folks -- BIPOC. That’s B-I-P-O-C, or Black, Indigenous, People of Color. It has now replaced POC as the way to refer to non-white folks en masse. But is the term just another way for people to collapse our identities and experiences into one? FANTI hosts Jarrett Hill and Tre'vell Anderson dive deeper into the etymology of the term, it's usefulness and where it misses the mark. But first...Pass the Popcorn Tre'vell and Jarrett chat about the latest news surrounding the Covid-19 vaccine. DIS/Honorable MentionsThis week, Jarrett has some contrarian opinions about the very popular show Schitt's Creek while Tre'vell gets into the IG accounts Ballroom Reacts and that of the fabulous Danielle Young. Jarrett has an honorable mention for the Chilled Cow YouTube channel while Tre'vell would like all of those out their hating on Harry Styles in a dress to go somewhere and sit down. Finally, Jarrett wraps up the episode with a special dishonorable mention for himself and his inability to stop watching The Bachelorette. Learn more about BIPOC organizing here.

The Society for the Improvement of Psychological Science, or SIPS, held its second conference July 30 - August 1, 2017. SIPS is a new organization that works to improve methods and practices in psychology. The conference is unlike a typical academic meeting -- instead of symposia and keyones, the schedule is filled with hackathons, unconferences, and more. In the first part of this episode, we talk about where SIPS came from and what it is all about. Then we present conversations that we recorded with SIPS attendees. Interviews: Alexa talks to three SIPS veterans: Brett Mercier, Dylan Wiwad, and Alex Uzdavines. Simine talks to Mike Frank and Brian Nosek about whether there is space for morality and politics in science. Sanjay talks to Rich Lucas, Bill Chopik, and Katie Corker about unconferences, Spartans, and beer city USA. Alexa talk to Danielle Young, Joanna Schug, and Leigh Wilton about whether you can be a productive researcher and keep up with Netflix. Simine talks to Rodica Damian, Cory Costello, & Dan Morgan about the worst thing about SIPS. Sanjay talks to Koji Takahashi, and Nick Mikulak about optimism vs. pessimism Alexa talks to Melissa Kline about memorable SIPS moments. How do we get more funding for communities of color? Finney is founder and Managing Director of digitalundivided, and Co-Author/Research Lead on #ProjectDiane, a proprietary data project about the state of Black women in tech entrepreneurship in the United States. Leading with data, Finney is fundamentally changing the discussion about diversity in tech. In her interview with Kelly Hoey, you’ll hear Finney explain why she established BIG, a new accelerator in Atlanta dedicated to Black women founders, the Harriet Fund and Harriet Angels. Finney’s confession that she was born to be an entrepreneur may explain why she is also so good as an investor and why, in one important way, she is no different than the rest: she always looks to get her money back!
