al-Mugheera Ibn Shu'ba رضي الله عنه (S13) al-Mugheera رضي الله عنه narrates: “The Messenger ﷺ performed wudhu and wiped over his Jawrabayn and his sandles”. This Hadith is the only ‘Sahih' report regarding the wiping over normal socks. However, the shuyukh, such as Imam Ahmed, Sufyan at-Thawri (r.h) have stated this Hadith is infact weak. This is due to 2 narrators in the Hadith chain who used the word ‘Jawrabayn' I.e normal socks, but the Hadith mentions ‘Huff' I.e leather socks. Thus it is agreed that one can only wipe over leather socks, and not normal socks as we see today. Hasan al-Basri (r.h): “70 companions رضي الله عنهم told me that The Messenger ﷺ wiped over leather socks”. One cannot wipe over leather socks if a bath is needed - wiping can only be done for wudhu. Mugheera رضي الله عنه elucidated that it is sunnah to wipe over the right foot with the right hand, and wipe over the left foot with the left hand. The Messenger ﷺ recieved leather socks [Huff] as a gift from Negus (r.h).

Leave feedback!Today I am speaking with Mickey Negus, the Senior Engineering Manager at Edge & Node who oversees Engineering Operations and Customer Success. This is Mickey's second appearance on the GRTiQ Podcast, having first joined us in November 2023 (Ep. 143) where she shared her journey into web3 and initial work at Edge & Node. After joining Edge & Node in 2022, Mickey has focused on revolutionizing how decentralized protocols provide technical support – transforming what was once a seven-day response window into a remarkably efficient three-minute median response time. Her approach goes beyond traditional support models, employing highly-skilled technical experts in frontline roles and coordinating support efforts across multiple organizations, time zones, and communication channels to meet the unique needs of a decentralized network.During our conversation, Mickey shares insights about The Graph's successful transition to Sunrise (moving all traffic from hosted services to the decentralized network), explains the critical differences between web2 and web3 support paradigms, and outlines her three-pillar support playbook for decentralized protocols. She also discusses how they've implemented AI tools for sentiment analysis, documentation improvement, and streamlining support operations across hundreds of concurrent conversations.Show Notes and TranscriptsThe GRTiQ Podcast takes listeners inside web3 and The Graph (GRT) by interviewing members of the ecosystem. Ep.222 José Parlá (b.1973) creates paintings and multidisciplinary works based on his interest in hybrid forms of abstraction. He draws inspiration from various mediums including music, calligraphy, dance, and the decay of urban architecture and advertisements. His works poetically challenge ideas about language, politics, identity, and how we define places and spaces. Parlá's relationship with mark-making is physical and textural, incorporating the body's gestures into a painterly stream of consciousness composed of areas of addition, erasure, and layering that challenge the status quo of visual culture. Parlá was born to Cuban parents in Miami, Florida, and lives and works out of Brooklyn, New York. He studied painting at Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) in Savannah, Georgia; the New World School of the Arts, Miami, Florida; and Miami Dade College, Miami, Florida. Solo exhibitions of Parlá's work have been organized at institutions such as The Bronx Museum, New York (2022); Gana Art Center, Seoul (2022); Istanbul'74, Istanbul (2019); Hong Kong Contemporary Art (HOCA) Foundation, Hong Kong (2019); Neuberger Museum of Art, New York (2018); SCAD Museum of Art, Savannah (2017); Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), New York (2017); Goss-Michael Foundation, Dallas (2016); High Museum of Art, Atlanta (2015); amongst others. We began the episode with Morgan and Deb Manchester who own CraveWell Cafe in Pennsylvania. The husband and wife partners began their path to a fast-casual healthy concept after Deb had a medical scare. The duo decided that they didn't want Deb going back to work for someone else, and they wanted to focus on healthy food options--something they found was lacking when they were out and looking for a quick bite to eat. Now, they've just celebrated their 5-year anniversary of owning CraveWell Cafe and are excited to share their healthy smoothies, sandwiches, cold-pressed juices, and more with all of you!Liam Kelly is no stranger to hard work, and even began helping out a family member's business at the age of 8. Later on in life, he found himself drawn into the culinary world when Ireland competed in the 2010 world cup and was hooked. So, in the late 90's he made the decision to move to the states and was offered a job inside a Manhattan bar. Soon after, he became a managing partner of the place and helped to open Tir-Na-Nog, a well-known Irish Pub & Restaurant chain. After that, he took a break and worked in Australia on boats...but eventually was drawn back to the states with a desire to open his own place in Philadelphia. Today, Liam is the Managing Partner of Con Murphy's Irish Pub in Philadelphia, Con Murphy's Ocean Bar & Grill in Florida, and he is a buyer for Aylesworth's Fish and Bait, Inc.There's some sweet rewards when you stay tuned for our last guest, Gize Negussie, who owns and operates Negus Winery which is located in Alexandria, VA. Why is this such a sweet reward? Gize is the first Ethiopian Honey Wine maker in the US, with strong familial bonds. The recipe for his signature blend was the one he was raised on. According to Gize, Tej (the honey wine, which is similar to mead) is always on the table when there's an occasion to celebrate. The signature wine also happens to be his mother's recipe but modernized to meet the needs of US regulations, and stamped with his mother's approval. Gize also offers other varieties of wine inside his tasting room, as well as specific varieties available to ship nationwide, so if you want to sip on something originally created for royalty--check out Negus Winery online or in-person!

Welcome to the Season 3 premiere of The LIUniverse, your happy half-hour dose of cosmic conversation and geeky banter with host Dr. Charles Liu! In this episode, Chuck and co-host Allen Liu welcome back Dr. Jimmy Negus, who was our guest on our very first episode, to talk about Solar Flares, “Deep Space Nine,” and more. As some of you may remember, Jimmy was only a PhD candidate back then, with his research focused on active galactic nuclei, including black holes, quasars and more. Now that he's got his doctorate, Jimmy has pivoted to studying solar physics, which is the perfect lead in to discuss the upcoming Great American Eclipse, the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024 that has them – and the rest of America – buzzing with excitement. As always, though, we start off with the day's “Joyfully Cool Cosmic Thing” – the discovery of a pulsar in a binary system with an unknown and mysterious object that seems to be somewhere between the mass of a neutron star and a black hole by astronomers using the radio telescopes in the MeerKAT array in the South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO). Jimmy explains that the leading theory may be that it is a smaller mass black hole than we've yet observed that was created by the collision of two neutron stars. Special thanks to our friends at the All Things Unexplained podcast (@allthingsunexplained) for bringing today's JCCT to our attention! Our first question of the day – and the season! – comes from audience member Makalya, who asks, “What are the chances of having black holes consume each other, becoming giant black holes, and slowly start growing from there?” Pretty high, it turns out. Dr. Negus explains how we use gravitational waves to deduce the frequency of black hole mergers in the universe. If we look across the entire observable universe, there are between 200,000-400,000 mergers EVERY YEAR! Of course, that includes all types of black holes. If we're only looking Jimmy estimates only about 10% of that number are collisions of supermassive black holes. And we've got a little while before that happens to our supermassive black hole, which will someday collide with Andromeda's – something on the order of 4 billion years or so. Moving on, Jimmy tells us about his new gig at The University of Colorado, Boulder, where he stayed on as a research faculty member after getting his PhD. He's now analyzing, calibrating and validating data from NOAA's GOES-18 satellite (GOES is a suite of Geostationary, Environmental Operational Satellites, the longest running continuous stream of satellites, first launched in 1974.) In addition to its weather-sensing technology that points down at the Earth, the satellite carries X-ray and UV sensors that point towards the sun to track space weather. Next up, we turn to the impending Solar Max period of our solar cycle, where the magnetic field of the sun completely flips every 11 years. Jimmy discusses the 2025 peak of the solar cycle, how solar emissions like X-Class Solar Flares can impact us. Charles points out that previous solar maxes have even taken down satellites, and Jimmy describes various ways we work to mitigate the damage from the next flare. Speaking of which, for our next question Shana asks whether a solar flare can set her phone on fire. Jimmy explains why we're not in danger here on Earth, thanks to technological advancements, but that a satellite disruption could disrupt service temporarily. He describes the Carrington Event of September 1859 during solar cycle 10, which was the most intense geomagnetic storm ever recorded, and actually caused some telegraph wires to burst into flame. Finally, Chuck turns our focus to our obsession with science fiction. We revisit “The Expanse,” which Jimmy just finished watching, and while good, “certainly wasn't a perfect show. It wasn't “Deep Space Nine,” my favorite.” Chuck posits that Voyager was better, but the two wisely reserve judgment on the new Star Trek shows and sticking with the classics. If you'd like to keep up with Dr. Jimmy Negus, you can visit his website at www.jimmynegus.com and @spacebound_negus on Instagram.
