A new study reveals how the frequency of your bowel movements could be an important indicator of your long-term health. Infrequent poopers showed signs of decreased kidney function, while those who went more often than average exhibited signs of impaired liver function. Listen in this week as Dee explains why the type and frequency of your bowel movements can affect your health well beyond the gut.References:Johnson-Martínez, J. P., Diener, C., Levine, A. Aberrant bowel movement frequencies coincide with increased microbe-derived blood metabolites associated with reduced organ function. See all the Healthcasts at https://www.biobalancehealth.com/healthcast-blog My goal for BioBalance Health® is to guide my patients to live a healthier life by offering them the newest preventive treatments, and safest hormone treatment available. My patients make an appointment with me and Dr. Sullivan for help with their current symptoms of aging and hormonal treatment to replace their missing hormones. They also receive a plan for unique preventive lifestyle changes to assist them in continuing their lives in health. But first, I believe that treating the symptoms of aging is the first thing on the agenda, and those symptoms are treated by replacing the hormones that disappear with age, testosterone, estradiol and often thyroid hormone. These symptoms are classic and appear within a short period of time, together: This is a combined list of symptoms of Testosterone and Estradiol loss for women after age 38, combined with loss of Testosterone in men after age 50. Symptoms of loss of Testosterone and Estradiol · Loss of normal youthful body, muscle and shape · Loss of sex drive · Infrequent or absent orgasms · Fatigue · Depression or Anxiety · Insomnia · Memory loss/ Difficulty thinking · Loss of motivation · New migraine headaches · Decreased muscle mass · Joint aches/ arthritis · Dry eyes · Loss of balance · ED in men (men) · Poor or decreased ejaculation (men) · Increased belly fat Loss of waistline · Weight gain · Cellulite · Ringing in the ears · Dry vagina (women) · Painful intercourse (women) My patients frequently tell me that they feel so good after getting their first testosterone pellets that they wish they would have come to see me years before because they have been suffering and now their symptoms are improved or gone. They also comment on how great their sex life is, their improved stamina to walk, play golf or run and how much younger they look! That is the enjoyable part of my practice. Replacing these hormones gives my patients their lives back and gives them their energy back so they can make changes in their lives to keep themselves healthy to avoid the diseases of aging. The Diseases of Aging are these: Cancer Type II Diabetes Arthritis Heart Attack Stroke Dementia, Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's disease Osteoporosis Frailty, inability to walk or climb stairs Immune deficiency Autoimmune diseases Depression and anxiety We find that we get great results with one or two hormones, but because we are preventive medicine doctors and hormone replacement doctors we are not just interested in your current condition and symptoms, but we are concerned about the diseases you are at risk to get when you get “old”. We then go over your family history of diseases with you and use it to determine what you are at risk for. Let me say that family history is only ½ of your risk factor because each parent only carries 1/2 of the genes you own. This means that your risk is usually watered down by the relative who has the disease, and your risk usually goes up if two relatives on opposite sides of the family have the same disease. Even though we use family history as an estimate of your risk for diseases in the future it is not very specific or accurate. The information your family tells you about their history may not be accurate for the real diseases your parents and grandparents had. My family history is a good example of bad information in an individual's medical history: I thought I was at risk for Adult-Onset Diabetes because my grandfather on my father's side and my grandmother on my mother's side had Type II Diabetes. I was worried since medical school that I would eventually get AODM too. When I had my genetics done, I found that I had 4/5 genes that foretell obesity, but NO DIABETES genes! This changed my approach to my own health from avoiding carbs totally, to losing weight until I was at ideal weight. In case you don't know it, almost all obese people develop Type II Diabetes eventually. If they don't change their lifestyle soon enough and lose weight as well as get the proper nutrition it is in their future. Diabetes is a disease that will follow them through their lives, putting them at risk for other diseases like cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer's disease, dementia of all kinds, arthritis, and joint deterioration needing joint replacements. This list includes the most common causes of death. So the moral of the story is, my family history didn't tell me what I was going to be at risk for! You can plan your healthy living plan based on your family history, or you can get your own genetics done to tell you what you are at risk for based on your genes, OR you can just clean up your lifestyle, receive your hormone replacement using the safest delivery system (pellets) and begin a healthy lifestyle as soon as possible. Get real information based on your individual situation now with blood work and add your genetics or family history to help motivate you to get healthier. Changing your lifestyle is the hardest thing you can do so getting expert advice from a physician, and then follow it. Look for a doctor who will help keep you motivated to follow your healthy living plan and do your half of the path to health and healthy aging without disease. Please join me, Dr. Kathy Maupin, BioBalance Health® next time when we outline a plan for health and longevity to avoid the pain and disability of aging.

On today's episode of A Modern Nonprofit Podcast, our special guest is the one and only Tosha Anderson, our very own founder and CEO. The conversation today has a very simple focus, 5 red flags that your accounting needs improvement, even when it may not be recognized. Whether the business is accrual or cash basis, it does not matter. Reconciliation is necessary and the bare minimum for successful completion of the accounting role. The accountant must post all transactions that filter through the bank account. Once these have been transferred into the accounting system, QuickBooks for example, reconciliation is the next step. This is how businesses prove that all transactions that enter the bank account are included in the accounting system. Consider it like an internal audit and a necessity. We're talking ground floor here when it comes to expectations for the accountant. Executive Directors should be checking off on this task, signing off, however they want to approach it, to assure that it is being completed. If this is not being done, then it's time to recognize the huge red flag in business' processes. Not only should this be completed in general, but completed consistently. Infrequent completions of this should also indicate trouble in paradise. Red Flag #1: Bank Account Reconciliation Red Flag #2: Lack of Financial Reports Red Flag #3: Timely Revenue Streams Red Flag #4: Auditor FeedbackRed Flag #5: Book Closing Turnarounds Please be sure to engage with the interview. Whether you enjoy listening to it, reading about it, or watching us on YouTube, make sure you review, share, and engage with A Modern Nonprofit Podcast. Today, we're going to talk about vitamin D deficiency and some things you've probably never heard about vitamin D. Vitamin D deficiency can cause: • A compromised immune system • Inflammation • Sleep issues • Digestive problems Causes of vitamin D deficiency: • Gut inflammation • Missing gallbladder • Thicker skin • Darker skin • Obesity • Diabetes • Insulin resistance • Location (living further from the equator) • Problems with certain genes • Infection • Fatty liver • Smoking • Sugar • Stress • Statins • Low-fat diets • Pollution • Omega-6 fatty acids It's almost impossible to get vitamin D from your diet, so you need to take certain measures to avoid becoming vitamin D deficient. Important things you may have never learned about vitamin D: 1. Most side effects that occur after taking vitamin D could be caused by a magnesium deficiency. 2. Infrequent large doses of vitamin D may be better than small daily doses. 3. Farm-raised fish have four times less vitamin D than wild-caught fish, and grain-fed animals have less vitamin D than grass-fed animals. Chickens and pigs that roam outside have more vitamin D than those confined indoors. 4. Vitamin D3 is the third biggest factor that improves overall health. 5. Vitamin D2 is very different from vitamin D3 and may inhibit the absorption of vitamin D3 and worsen MS. It's also not effective to help with lupus or to decrease mortality, whereas vitamin D3 may be effective in these situations. 6. Ten minutes of skin exposure to the sun only provides about 400 IU of vitamin D. 7. Most vitamin D3 supplements in Europe (and possibly around the world) contain corn syrup. Starting in December, a series of “atmospheric rivers” brought record storms to California producing as much rain in three weeks in some areas as they normally have in an entire year. The historic levels of rain (and snow in the mountains) have swollen rivers, flooded roads and homes, forced evacuations, knocked out electric power for […]

In this episode, Rich has a conversation with the people of the Harford County Health Department and Corrie Reed of the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health. In the United States, breast cancer is the biggest cancer killer of women, second only to lung cancer in terms of overall mortality. Screening for breast cancer is crucial since most women have no symptoms in the early stages, when the tumor is tiny and treatment is most effective. A painless lump is the most typical physical symptom. Breast cancer that has progressed to the lymph nodes under the arm may create a lump or swelling there before the primary tumor in the breast is big enough to be felt. Infrequent symptoms include nipple alterations including spontaneous discharge (particularly if bloody), scaliness, or retraction, as well as breast soreness or heaviness, dimpling, swelling, thickness, or redness of the breast skin, and so on. A doctor should be consulted about any breast changes that persist over time.Community agencies, minority groups, hospitals, local companies, government, and private residents all contribute to the Harford County Health Department's Community Cancer Coalition. These representatives collaborate with the Health Department's Cancer Prevention Program personnel to inform citizens of Harford County about the services available via this program. The Associated Press investigated John Fetterman's schedule as Lieutenant Governor from 2019 to May of 2022. Though the job pays nearly $180,000 annually, the AP revealed his schedule was “blank during roughly one-third of workdays”—and “in 2021, Fetterman's calendars showed 115 workdays with no activities or events listed.”
Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) is the Java API used to connect to a database. As one of the most popular Kafka connectors, it's important to prevent issues with your integrations. In this episode, we'll cover how a JDBC connection works, and common issues with your database connection. Why the Kafka JDBC Connector? When it comes to streaming database events into Apache Kafka®, the JDBC connector usually represents the first choice for its flexibility and the ability to support a wide variety of databases without requiring custom code. As an experienced data analyst, Francesco Tisiot (Senior Developer Advocate, Aiven) delves into his experience of streaming Kafka data pipeline with JDBC source connector and explains what could go wrong. He discusses alternative options available to avoid these problems, including the Debezium source connector for real-time change data capture. The JDBC connector is a Java API for Kafka Connect, which streams data between databases and Kafka. If you want to stream data from a rational database into Kafka, once per day or every two hours, the JDBC connector is a simple, batch processing connector to use. You can tell the JDBC connector which query you'd like to execute against the database, and then the connector will take the data into Kafka. The connector works well with out-of-the-box basic data types, however, when it comes to a database-specific data type, such as geometrical columns and array columns in PostgresSQL, these don't represent well with the JDBC connector. Perhaps, you might not have any results in Kafka because the column is not within the connector's supporting capability. Francesco shares other cases that would cause the JDBC connector to go wrong, such as: Infrequent snapshot timesOut-of-order eventsNon-incremental sequencesHard deletesTo help avoid these problems and set up a reliable source of events for your real-time streaming pipeline, Francesco suggests other approaches, such as the Debezium source connector for real-time change data capture. The Debezium connector has enhanced metadata, timestamps of the operation, access to all logs, and provides sequence numbers for you to speak the language of a DBA. They also talk about the governance tool, which Francesco has been building, and how streaming Game of Thrones sentiment analysis with Kafka started his current role as a developer advocate. I recently received this message from a woman on Instagram: "I have some questions regarding my cycle (or lack thereof) and I'm feeling a little lost. Was wondering if you could give me some guidance?" So, today's episode is dedicated to just that. We discuss the most common causes of menstrual irregularities and how to evaluate them (including reproductive hormones, thyroid function, anatomical causes, stress and more) but equally important, we begin to scratch the surface of what to do if (or when) these all come back "normal." And perhaps we'll take it to an even deeper level in a second episode...In the meantime, join me in The Fertility Answers Workshop here. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/fertilityunderground/message
Today's topic comes from my client Kiley who is passionate about her speaking and presentation skills. Kiley coaches sales professionals and wanted to know what filler words are, why we use them, and what we can do about them. I love this question and have researched-backed answers to help you (and Kiley) out. What are they? Filler words are meaningless words, sounds, or phrases that mark a pause or hesitation in speech. Examples include: "uh, um, like, so, er, OK, right and ya know." Why do they happen? Researchers have narrowed down the causes of filler words to three reasons. • Divided attention: this is when your brain is trying to focus on multiple things at once. For example, you're trying to talk and type at the same time or when you're speaking and become distracted by an audience member. • Infrequent word use: this happens when we try to use words that we don't use regularly. Our brains start searching for a word and pauses, throwing in an "um" in an attempt to keep our speech fluent. • Nerves: when we're nervous, we tend to increase our speech rate, which can lead to increased use of filler words. What can we do about filler words? A few filler words here or there won't hurt, and they may actually help increase your approachability and authenticity. However, most researchers agree that our credibility goes down when we use filler words frequently. With that in mind, three thingsyou can do that will help are; Change your mindset. Adopt the mentality that your listeners will not notice any anxiety you have. We give people more credit than is due for their observational skills, which leads us to amp our anxiety unnecessarily. Practice. Say it out loud in front of people. Practicing in front of others engages your brain's motor planning cortex, which creates muscle memory for your talk. The more you practice speaking aloud, the more fluent you'll become. Engage your audience. Asking questions, encouraging note-taking, and inviting others to speak help take the focus off of you, decreasing your nervousness and focusing on what matters. And last but not least, Duvall, Robbins, Graham, and Divett recommend working with a speech-language pathologist trained in helping people speak fluently. That's the scoop on filler words. I hope you've found this helpful. If you're looking for help with your speaking skills, contact me. I am a Speech-Language Pathologist, and I'd be happy to help. We discuss the Public Cervix Announcement campaign promoting more frequent cervical screening for Trans Masc people. Zac Cannell was involved with the production of the campaign from SAMESH. Research shows that a fifth of LGBTIQ Victorians with a cervix have never had a cervical screening. Infrequent cervical screening can result in a greater risk of developing cervical cancer. All LGBTIQ people with a cervix aged 25 to 74 need cervical screening every five years. Public Cervix Announcement is rolling out now across Adelaide and South Australia. Zac also talks about their work as a Sexual Health Counsellor and running the TransHealth SA website. Check out our other JOY Podcasts for more on HIV, COVID-19 and queer health & wellbeing.
