#384 Rolf Harris Tattoo - Alleluia Alleluia, He is Risen! It's Easter Monday and Rich has been schooled in Christian traditions by his kids. His guest is the best Edinburgh Comedy Prize by at least one metric, Amy Gledhill. It's an old-school, crazy fun loose chat with a comedian and it's giddy fun all the way, encompassing what is the best crisp to send you into a coma, podcast listening speeds, why Richard will never advertise Pringles, some strong and maybe shocking opinions about Soleros, ice cream spoons, what happens when your double act partner persuades you to be the one to dress as a sausage, artistic toilets, and an extraordinary answer to the tallest building in your home town emergency question. Plus how Richard's work is studied at Universities. For details of Amy's Edinburgh Fringe shows and more check out her website - amygledhill.co.ukSUPPORT THE SHOW!Watch our TWITCH CHANNELBecome a badger and see extra content at our WEBSITE See details of the RHLSTP LIVE DATES Buy DVDs and books from GO FASTER STRIPE Hosted on Acast. At the annual Fringe festival in Edinburgh, performers go to great lengths to highlight their productions amid thousands of shows on offer. It turns out, there are some tricks to getting noticed. The post With nearly 4,000 shows, all the world's a stage at Edinburgh Fringe appeared first on The World from PRX.
It's part two of the DWSC's jaunt to the Ventnor Fringe last month, and today we're joined by local MP for Isle of Wight West, Richard Quigley, who told us about his mother's misdemeanours on his childhood haircuts, as well as the time he witnessed a robbery as a student. The team then delves into a story of an eccentric leader, who would still be preferable to some of today's real life offerings. We also hear about the time Taylor married The Hoff and when the Isle of Wight attempted to have its own currency. Finally we hear from a member of the audience who seeks answers for a crime connected to an ill-advised teenage party with a whole host of subjects to choose from. This week's episodes take place on the Drunk Women's annual seaside holiday to the sunny Isle of Wight, where they also decided to do a couple of shows at the fabulous Ventnor Fringe!Episode one features the brilliant Jessica Fostekew, who popped in before her own show to tell us about the time a guy called 'Dave' managed to fleece the till when Jess was perhaps the world's youngest coffee shop manager. She then gives Hannah and Taylor a hand in solving the intricacies of an escapade which took place on the Isle and could easily be the sequel to 'Planes Trains and Automobiles'. Finally, we hear from audience member London cabbie Dave (not that Dave), who gives us the most outrageous 'you'll never guess who I had in the back of my cab' story ever!Download SAILY in your app store and use our code drunkwomen at checkout to get an exclusive 15% off your first purchase! THE GOOD DEATH VIRTUAL BOOK TOUR: Suzanne B. O'Brien RN in Conversation with Elizabeth Coplan. Elizabeth, the visionary behind Grief Dialogues, shares her powerful journey from passionate theater lover to transformative voice in the conversation about grief and death. Born from personal loss and her love for the stage, her poignant 10-minute play became a festival favorite, proving the profound ability of storytelling to create safe, healing spaces for sharing grief. Her work boldly challenges society's discomfort with mortality, encouraging open and honest dialogue about dying and end-of-life experiences. In exploring the tension between modern medicine's life-prolonging advances and honoring individual wishes, Elizabeth reframes death as a sacred rite of passage rather than something to fear. Now, as Grief Dialogues nears its 10th anniversary, she unveils plans for a groundbreaking immersive theatrical experience at the 2026 Edinburgh Fringe Festival—an emotional journey through grief that reveals the beauty, love, and deep human connection that can emerge in life's final chapters. The studio was bursting at the seams during this recording, as Hannah and Taylor welcomed the stars of the 'Killers, Cults and Queens' podcast, Nikki and Cheryl, as well as a veritable posse of onlookers sitting at the side-lines. As Nikki and Cheryl are no strangers to crimey content, it's not surprising that they each came armed with stories of ne'er-do-wells infiltrating their own lives, which includes spectral beings and TV producers - so not too dissimilar. The gang then investigates a case in which Taylor displays a surprising amount of knowledge on the art of knife throwing, before delving into a listener crime which could be referred to as 'The Italian Job' , but on a slightly smaller scale. One-Act Play Collections - Book 15, Part 3 Title: One-Act Play Collections - Volume 15 Overview: Here, in our 15th collection, are 10 One-Act Plays for your enjoyment. They range from the mid-1600s to the early 1900s, from outright farce to bittersweet relationships, all short gems to make you laugh, cry, think, or all three. A one-act play is a play that has only one act and is distinct from plays that occur over several acts. One-act plays may consist of one or more scenes. The 20-40 minute play has emerged as a popular subgenre of the one-act play, especially in writing competitions. One-act plays make up the overwhelming majority of Fringe Festival shows including at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The origin of the one-act play may be traced to the very beginning of recorded Western drama: in ancient Greece, Cyclops, a satyr play by Euripides, is an early example. The satyr play was a farcical short work that came after a trilogy of multi-act serious drama plays. A few notable examples of one-act plays emerged before the 19th century including various versions of the Everyman play and works by Moliere and Calderon. One act plays became more common in the 19th century and is now a standard part of repertory theatre and fringe festivals. Today's episode was recorded at July's Crossed Wires Festival in Sheffield, where not only was it DWSC's debut in that fair city, but they also happened to be joined on stage by bona fide local royalty in the form of Pulp's legendary drummer and man about town, Nick Banks!Nick kicked off proceedings by recounting not one, but TWO terrifying tales of 1990s superfandom, aided and abetted by props produced from his Aldi bag. The team then took a deep dive into some Sheffield based criminal activity from 100 years ago, before hearing from a member of the audience who took a leaf out of our guests book and told us two crime stories from their own life, one involving a very salty thief. The Drunk Women are back at the Edinburgh Fringe!Catch them every day at 5'55pm at The Cowbarn, Bristow Sq from 15th-24th August Drunk Women Solving Crime | Edinburgh Festival FringeDon't forget DWSC now drops TWICE weekly! Episodes will be on general release every Wednesday AND Friday.BUT you can get both shows in one hit, by going to our Patreon where you can sign up for early access and get both episodes every Tuesday. As well as this, you'll get ad free eps, invites to watch our live zoom records, video of all our studio eps, bespoke shout outs and MORE! Wait a minute. Yes, our dear (Bryan) is in Edinburgh right now, but we're just getting right into it this week because we have a special guest who's been in The Carriage House so much it might be insulting to call her a guest. She's family at this point, pardon me. It's our dear, dear friend Jessica St. Clair! If you're not listening to Jessica's podcast THE DEEP DIVE (with the equally lovely June Diane Raphael), we don't know what to tell you. You're missing out! Ronna and Jessica, who's off to the south of France tomorrow for a well earned vacation, have a little Carriage House Catch-Up of their own (did Ronna REALLY give Jessica some bad pot?) before giving advice on a mother vs mother-in-law battle and what to do with a boyfriend whose home is less than clean. It's time to get hinky. If you're anywhere near Scotland, you've GOT to go see (Bryan)'s show ARE YOU MAD AT ME at the Edinburgh Fringe! Now showing through the end of August! Tickets at bryansafi.com or link in his bio.
