Dr. Renee Coffman is president and co-founder of the Nevada College of Pharmacy, now Roseman University of Health Sciences. She previously served as the University's Executive Vice President for Quality Assurance and Intercampus Consistency and the Dean of its College of Pharmacy. Before establishing Roseman University, Dr. Coffman became a founding member of the faculty at Western University of Health Sciences, where she also held the position of Facilitative Officer for Student Services. While at Western, Dr. Coffman and four colleagues received Honorable Mention for the AACP Innovations in Teaching Awards. A licensed pharmacist in the state of Nevada, Dr. Coffman earned a Pharmacy degree from OhioNorthern University in 1987 and, following graduation, worked as a pharmacist in her hometown of Bucyrus, Ohio and in Piqua, Ohio. Wendell P Williams was born in Saint Joseph Louisiana and received both his master's and bachelor's degrees from Southern University at Baton Rouge LouisianaAfter locating to Las Vegas Nevada, he worked as a classroom teacher and community organizer. His work in education earned him the Crystal Apple Award and among other things the highest award from the National Education Association as well as the MaryMcCloud Bethune Award from the NAACPIn 1987 he was elected to the Nevada Legislature becoming the first teacher in Nevada history to serve in that body. In his freshman term he introduced and passed two paid state holidays, FAMILY DAY and the Dr Martin Luther King state Holiday. Among dozens of countless bills, he authored legislation to rebuild all schools in Las Vegas that were built before 1970. During his 18 years in the Nevada legislature, he served as chairman of theEducation Committee and Judiciary Committee. He later became the first AfricanAmerican to serve as Speaker of the House.His work in the community includes membership in the Masons, the Order of the Elks theOmega Psi Phi Fraternity among a few. He was a columnist for the Las Vegas SentinelVoice Newspaper and was the founder of Power 88 Radio's first community affairs talkshow.His community work resulted in the Clark County School District in 2002 opening the first2 story elementary school in the state in his honor “Wendell Phillips Williams ElementarySchool” in his honor. And in 2004 the City of Las Vegas dedicated Wendell Williams Way anew street in his honor. Since its original publication in 1961, Catch-22 by Joseph Heller has become a classic of anti-war literature, gaining fame during the Vietnam era for its dark and satirical look at American military life. Filmed to middling results by Mike Nichols in 1970, a new miniseries on Hulu has brought the novel back into the spotlight, where its focus on circular reasoning and insanity seems a propos to life during the current American regime. Catch-22 was Joseph Heller's first novel. In the 1970s he wrote the novels Something Happened and Good as Gold, and in the 1980s God Knows and Picture This, and the non-fiction No Laughing Matter about his struggle with Guillan-Barre Syndrome In 1994, Joseph Heller came out with a sequel to Catch-22, titled Closing Time, which deals with what happened to Yossarian and other characters after the end of World War II. This interview was recorded during that book tour and deals with both books, as well as other aspects of his career, along with comparisons to the works of Kurt Vonnegut. Despite respectful reviews and a good reputation, Closing Time is mostly forgotten today, though it is easily available on-line in both paper and e-book. Joseph Heller published a memoir, Now and Then, in 1998, and another novel, Portrait of the Artist as an Old Man, an autobiographical work about an author who is unable to shake the success of his very first novel, was published posthumously in 2000. On the forty- first episode of All the Film Things, I talked with the Film Production Coordinator for the City of Jacksonville, director/ editor Adam Madrid! Adam Madrid, who some of us regard as “the king of Jacksonville”, is an integral figure in Jacksonville who started out working as a freelancer making films, music videos, and even commercials for the Jacksonville Jaguars before becoming the Film Production Coordinator for the City of Jacksonville last year. He has been awarded the Art Innovator Award by the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville in 2023 and is amongst this year's Leadership Jacksonville class. Alongside his wife Monique, Adam is the City Producer for the 48 hour film project in Jacksonville and the co- founder of the LOL Jacksonville Film Festival. Adam is also the co- founder of the production company Argyle Forest Films and directs, co- produces, and co- edits every versatile film made under the company including “A Novel Idea” and “No Laughing Matter”, which won the Jacksonville 48 hour film project in 2014 leading the short to be screened at Filmapalooza in Hollywood the next year.Adam's directorial feature debut, Let Me Be Corey, is a comedy film that's been six years in the making! The film will be out very soon and I'll keep you all updated on its release on the ATFT Instagram! He is the community leader this city needs and his dedication along with his motivated mindset is going to elevate Jacksonville to the film city it is. Every time I have the pleasure of chatting with him I feel inspired and motivated, especially since he's been a champion of this podcast which I cannot be more grateful for his support. This episode was recorded on April 24, 2025. In this episode, Adam talks about how his motivation and passion for filmmaking got him to where he is today, as a leading figure in the Jacksonville film industry.
