The price of sirloin and porterhouse steaks and lamb chops rose about 25-percent in the past year, and beef mince and sausages more than 10-percent. But poultry and pork have stayed at or below the rate of inflation. Infometrics Principal Economist Brad Olsen told Andrew Dickens that a summer salad's more affordable. Welcome, friend, to the Three Ravens Christmas Feast - we're still at 'Meal Prep' stage, but come inside and warm up by the fire!To begin our six episode Yuletude binge in style we're going to head to the kitchens deep beneath Three Ravens HQ to have a chat with Dr Neil Buttery, the award-winning food historian and host of the British Food History Podcast.Because what should be included in a traditional English Christmas lunch? As Neil explains, it's not straightforward to work it out, and along the way we discuss why Mince Pies used to have meat in them, what prompted Medieval and Tudor monarchs to start baking absolutely everything in pastry, the surprisingly late arrival of the potato on English dinner plates, and much more besides! We really hope you enjoy the chat, that you find your bedchamber comfortable, and be sure to meet us in the library tomorrow when we will be chatting all about folk and Christmas music with the amazingly cool British indie band Lunatraktors - who will be sharing five of their versions of traditional seasonal songs! With our Ghost Story for Christmas Eve to follow on Wednesday, we then have a triple serving of episodes coming out on Christmas morning, featuring:Dr Sarah Clegg, author of The Dead of Winter: The Demons, Witches and Ghosts of ChristmasTaffy Thomas MBE, author of Midwinter Folk Tales and the UK's first Storyteller LaureateTony Walker, author of Christmas Ghost Stories and host of The Classic Ghost Stories podcastPlus a new Christmas song from us!We promise spooky and heartwarming tales, weird Christmas history, Ben prancing about in jingly shoes, lots of surprises, and... well, just be sure to wear something loose-fitting, as there will be plenty to go round.Oh, and don't mind the spectral hands floating about the place. They're a gift from Baba Yaga...Three Ravens is a Myth and Folklore podcast hosted by award-winning writers Martin Vaux and Eleanor Conlon.Released on Mondays, each weekly episode focuses on a historic county, exploring the heritage, folklore and traditions of the area, from ghosts and mermaids to mythical monsters, half-forgotten heroes, bloody legends, and much, much more. Then, and most importantly, the pair take turns to tell a new version of an ancient story from that county - all before discussing what that tale might mean, where it might have come from, and the truths it reveals about England's hidden past...Bonus Episodes are released on Thursdays plus Local Legends episodes on Saturdays - interviews with acclaimed authors, folklorists, podcasters and historians with unique perspectives on that week's county. With a range of exclusive content on Patreon too, including audio ghost tours, the Three Ravens Newsletter, and monthly Three Ravens Film Club episodes about folk horror films from across the decades, why not join us around the campfire and listen in?Learn more at www.threeravenspodcast.com, join our Patreon at www.patreon.com/threeravenspodcast, and find links to our social media channels here: https://linktr.ee/threeravenspodcastREGISTER FOR THE TALES OF SOUTHERN ENGLAND TOURProud members of the Dark Cast Network.Visit our website Join our Patreon Social media channels and sponsors Hosted on Acast. In this Mini Mikkipedia episode, Mikki breaks down a refreshingly sane approach to Christmas eating — one that ditches guilt, detoxes, and “earning your food,” and instead works with your physiology. Using a simple three-phase framework — Prime, Process, Restore — Mikki explains how small, practical behaviours before, during, and after Christmas Day can dramatically improve blood sugar control, digestion, energy, and overall metabolic resilience. From protein-anchored meals and strategic movement to post-meal walks and nervous system regulation, this episode is about supporting the machinery that handles abundance — not punishing yourself for it. No calorie counting, no biohacker gadgets, no January regret. Just evidence-based habits that help you enjoy Christmas as a celebration, not a metabolic crisis.HighlightsWhy Christmas food isn't “good” or “bad” — and why behaviour ≠ characterHow movement primes insulin sensitivity and glycogen storageThe power of protein anchoring to prevent dysregulated eatingWhy post-meal walks are non-negotiable metabolic goldHow stress and guilt impair digestion more than food ever could Contact Mikki:https://mikkiwilliden.com/https://www.facebook.com/mikkiwillidennutritionhttps://www.instagram.com/mikkiwilliden/https://linktr.ee/mikkiwillidenSave 20% on all Nuzest Products WORLDWIDE with the code MIKKI at www.nuzest.co.nz, www.nuzest.com.au or www.nuzest.comCurranz supplement: MIKKI saves you 25% at www.curranz.co.nz or www.curranz.co.uk off your first order

In this festive episode of Food Rebels: Getting Ready for Christmas, AJ Sharp is joined by Clare Pope to talk about one very important question: what should actually go in your Christmas shop? Together they build the dream pre-Christmas trolley, from flavour-boosting staples to effortless party food and seriously indulgent puddings. They start with Borough Broth – organic, B Corp bone broth that's AJ's secret weapon for rich, non-greasy gravy and collagen-packed cosy mugs of goodness. Hydration gets an upgrade too, with Solo still and sparkling water from the Usk Valley, perfect for guests who aren't drinking – or anyone who needs something refreshing between the bubbles. For easy flavour wins, AJ and Clare taste their way through Herbamare's herb sea salts, including a low-salt version and a slow-burn spicy blend that's made for soups, broths and roast potatoes. They cover stress-saving midweek meals with HelloFresh, crowd-pleasing party food from Higgidy. Dessert lovers are in heaven with Simply Ice Cream – from Mince Pie and Christmas Pudding to cinnamon, stem ginger & marmalade and the legendary, three-star Great Taste Heavenly Honeycomb. Along with comforting spelt pasta from The Northern Pasta Company. Drinks-wise, there's celebratory Bruno Paillard Champagne and party-ready Zonin Prosecco, everything you need for delicious, low-stress festive eating. If you're wondering what to add to your online shop before the big day, this is your Christmas food shopping list in audio form.

Prosecco flavoured crisps? Eggnog chicken? Sticky toffee pudding trifle? The innovation for novelty Christmas products seems endless, but is there the appetite? Ruth Alexander lifts the lid on an industry churning out festive food hits, and flops, in the race for Christmas tastebuds. She visits the Good Housekeeping Institute in London to take part in an opulent dessert testing event, deciding which puddings are the best on the shelves this year. Eric Numellin and Mike Vahabi from Hela Spice in Toronto, Canada, reveal the wacky inventions they have come up with for this year, and how inspiration can strike at any time. A former buyer for a large European supermarket chain talks about how to “win” Christmas with headline-grabbing products, and what happens when shoppers try things once and don't go back for more.
