Send us a textMerry Christmas, everyone! This episode will be available on Christmas Eve 2024, and we thought it would be fun to chat about food traditions in our own homes as well as around the world. How about pickled fish in Denmark, rice cakes from the Philippines, or a spicy stew from India? Maybe there are some new traditions you'll want to add to your Christmas celebration. Check out the article from National Geographic - linked below. We discuss a few of our own traditions, but it turns out we're not big on too many of them. And we read aloud some traditions that were shared with us by followers on Threads. Thank you to all who shared your stories with us! Thank you for tuning in and supporting the podcast in 2024! Prosecco flavoured crisps? Eggnog chicken? Sticky toffee pudding trifle? The innovation for novelty Christmas products seems endless, but is there the appetite? Ruth Alexander lifts the lid on an industry churning out festive food hits, and flops, in the race for Christmas tastebuds. She visits the Good Housekeeping Institute in London to take part in an opulent dessert testing event, deciding which puddings are the best on the shelves this year. Eric Numellin and Mike Vahabi from Hela Spice in Toronto, Canada, reveal the wacky inventions they have come up with for this year, and how inspiration can strike at any time. A former buyer for a large European supermarket chain talks about how to “win” Christmas with headline-grabbing products, and what happens when shoppers try things once and don't go back for more. Christmas eating is great, but Christmas cooking can be stressful. Joining us with her top tips for creating calm in the kitchen is Sarah Rossi, aka @TamingTwins! She shares easy make-ahead recipes for starters and desserts, and a great idea for what to feed picky eaters on the big day. Ellie reveals how Sarah's 15 minute Baileys cheesecake saved her Christmas last year, along with her theory that organised people are secretly the laziest bastards of all. Helen learns what a Snowball is, and her mind is blown. You can find Sarah's recipes for easy roast potatoes and slow cooker chocolate orange pudding on her blog, along with loads of other fantastic Christmas recipes.
