The exhibition is coming direct from London and curator Michel Boersma has made the trip to Wellington for the opening. He joined Nick Mills in the studio and brought with him a piece from the famous artist. LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In DC, Philadelphia, and Portland, monuments to Donald Trump's legacy as a white supremacist and sexual predator have been popping up. Their creator has yet to be revealed (please don't be Banksy). But it does open the door to the question: are we doomed to suffer through four more years of bad anti-Trump art? Or will the pro-Trump guys like Beeple take over cringe creation? And if the bro podcasters are to blame, and the socialist Twitch streamers couldn't save us, what do we do with our culture of overproduction? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Good afternoon, I'm _____ with today's episode of EZ News. Tai-Ex opening The Tai-Ex opened up 155-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 21,952 on turnover of $6.9-billion N-T. Shares in Taiwan closed slightly higher Tuesday following a reduced turnover amid caution ahead of key U.S. economic data due out later this week. Because of the lower turnover, many large-cap tech stocks fell into consolidation mode throughout the session. iPhone assembler Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. attracted bargain hunters which helped boost the broader market. Taiwan to recognize Lin's World Boxing Championships bronze medal Premier Cho Jung-tai announced that Taiwan's government has decided to recognize the bronze medal won by Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting at the 2023 World Boxing Championships, despite her later disqualification by the International Boxing Association. Cho made the announcement in a media interview, saying he has instructed the Ministry of Education to work out a plan to present a National Glory Medal and prize money of $900-thousand NT to Lin, in recognition of her outstanding performance in international competitions. The Cabinet says Taiwan experts and medical authorities have already verified (核實) Lin's eligibility, and the International Olympic Committee allowed her to compete in the 2024 Paris Games, with the IOC and its President Thomas Bach repeatedly backed her eligibility to compete in the women's event. The Cabinet says this shows that Lin's disqualification at the 2023 World Championships was illegitimate. Deputy Education Minister Chang Liao Wan-Chien also announced that Lin will be appointed an anti-bullying Public Welfare Ambassador. War crimes in Myanmar escalating at alarming rate A team of United Nations investigators warns that war crimes committed by Myanmar's military government has escalated (加劇、惡化) at an alarming rate. In the past six months the UN estimates that over three million people have been forced to flee their homes. East Asia correspondent William Denselow reports. Russia Claims Ukraine Incursion Checked The Russian Defense Ministry says its forces have checked an effort by Kyiv's troops to expand a stunning weeklong incursion into Russia's Kursk region. A Ukrainian Foreign Ministry official said Tuesday that Kyiv has no intention of occupying Russian territory in the operation that has been shrouded in (籠罩在) secrecy. The Russian Defense Ministry said army units, fresh reserves, army aircraft, drone teams and artillery forces stopped Ukrainian armored mobile groups from moving deeper into Russia. A Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said the cross-border operation was aimed at protecting Ukrainian land from long-range strikes launched from Kursk. He said that Ukraine isn't interested in taking the territory of the Kursk region. Banksy Artwork at London Zoo Workers arriving at the London Zoo were surprised to discover an unexpected exhibit that suggested the animals were being set free. A mural by elusive street artist Banksy showed a gorilla holding up the entrance gate as birds took flight and a sea lion waddled away. Three sets of eyes peered out (向外看) from the darkness inside. The painting may explain why Bansky-created creatures, including a mountain goat perched on a building and a rhinoceros mounting a car, have been showing up around London for nine straight days. Welcome to episode 159 with Kunt, who is a sometime comedy songwriter turned major irritant who records and performs as Kunt & The Gang! At Christmas 2020, his other band The K*nts, had an unexpected top 5 hit single with their protest song Boris Johnson is a F**king C**t. Since then, they have had top 20 hits with Boris Johnson is STILL a F**king C**t, F** The Tories and Scrap The Monarchy despite having no record company, no management, no PR company and no financial backing. In this episode I chat to Mr K about his about his extensive career on the cold, outer fringes of show business and the mental impact of trying to live a creative lifestyle and go against the grain. We chat about being skint, the state of the nation and the importance of community and protest. We also chat about why he's not doing a Xmas single this year and has chosen to support a mystery, Bansky style musical outfit called The Krackpots who are releasing 'Proper Christmas' under very mysterious circumstances on 8th of December. This is a much lovelier and profound chat than you'll be expecting and I really enjoyed being part of it! I've loved what Mr K has done to the Christmas charts over the last few years and I will always cheer for the independent artists and the underdogs who are trying to do something different. Reflections on crypto and trying to make sense of a nonsensical week. Brought to you by Masterworks Microsoft Co-Founder's $1.5B+ Sale Highlights Real Asset Resilience Last week, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen's historic art collection shattered the record for largest ever sale in auction history. The fact that the blue-chip art market is still setting records amid major drawdowns in financial markets, and macroeconomic turmoil, highlights why it can be such a strong alternative diversifier. In fact, the high-end art market also remained resilient through downturns like the dot-com bubble and Great Financial Crisis. But this time around, it's not just the ultra-wealthy benefitting, thanks to Masterworks. This unicorn investment platform compiles the results of thousands of auctions like this, generating millions of data points, and builds custom indices to find artist markets with the most momentum. Then it acquires works from those artists, securitizes them, and allows everyday people to invest in shares. So far, seven of Masterworks' eight exits have realized a net return of +17.8%. Exit Through the Giftshop is a documentary on the commodification of street art directed by Banksy but placing Thierry Guetta, a Bansky acolyte who was inspired to enter the art world by Banksy, as the central figure through which to explore its themes. The podcast discusses Guetta's journey, and questions Banksy's perspective and attitude towards Guetta, whilst questioning whether the figure of Guetta is real or not. Is he just a Banksy invention, a construct through which to raise questions? Does it matter? Aren't all films constructs? The film is discussed as a documentary and compared to a range of works from Welles F for Fake to reality television. A film enriched by being open to the many interpretations the discussion in the podcast brings up.

Original broadcast date September 8, 2022. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2022/09/binary-system-podcast-329-wtnv-213-murals/ It's no secret that the Binary System Podcast team is always finding moments that would be perfect for fan art (we do love us some fan art). This week's episode felt like the Welcome To Night Vale writers were throwing down multiple challenges to fan artists. Listen in as we recap the City Council's latest attempt to bring in some sweet, sweet tourist bucks by commissioning a dozen or so new murals by a not-so-anonymous artist. (Who's name would have been a cute joke that we whiffed by not pronouncing it consistently. BANsky? BANKsy? Is that how it's spelled? No way to know...) It's kind of a short episode this week since we still haven't watched more Sandman (bad fans, no cookie), so after the recap we ramble a little bit about speakeasies, multi-purpose bars, the Hugo Award winners, and the vagaries of streaming services (Starz, why DO you only have season 1 of American Gods anyway?) This week's outro is a clip from Midnight Drones by Psychadelik Pedestrian. Hugh's review of Moonfall can be found here, and Leland's review of Star Trek Mission Las Vegas 2022 can be found here. What Artists Can learn from the Venice Biennale Curator This is the world's longest running, large scale survey of contemporary art. It is looked to locally and internationally to discover the next new great artist. The curator is Cecilia Alemani, and I went to hear her share her insights about the exhibition. She went into detail about how she made the multitude of decisions involved in this exhibit. Hear how she uses a 3D layout and how she chose the name for the exhibition in addition to how she selected the art itself. Her strategies are something you can use as well. Classic Artist Mistakes On the upper west side in NYC, there's a “flea market” every Sunday. I have checked it out a few times and I wanted to coach some of the artists so that they could sell more art and make more money. Collect addresses to follow up – this is too not be doing it. Offer to keep in touch. I had to ask an artist multiple times how I could connect with him in the future. Make it easy! Download The Artists Profit Plan Where Can You See Bansky in New York City I recently saw graffiti art here in NYC by the street artist Bansky. He's from Great Britain and in addition to his art, he is also an activist. Banksy is a pseudonymous England-based Street artist, political activist and film director whose real name and identity remain unconfirmed and the subject of speculation. He combines existing items into his art. If you are in NY, you can see his art on the south wall on the Designer Show Warehouse at 79th street and Broadway. The owner of the building has taken steps to preserve the art, so hopefully it will be there for many more years. The Art World remembers Edmonia Lewis I love to find the most interesting stamps when I go to the post office. Nothing wrong with the flag, but why not find something more interesting? In February during black history month, I bought some stamps featuring Edmonia Lewis. Check out her story. She was the first sculptor of African American and Native American (Mississauga) descent to achieve international recognition. Her father was Black, and her mother was Chippewa (Ojibwa) Indian. She has a fascinating life story and despite a number of setbacks she never stopped creating art. You'll be inspired by her story and her tenacity. More on this topic: The Rise of the Black Portrait Artist Forget Perfectionism in Your Art Let's talk about the deliberate mistake. In many handmade Persian rugs and carpets, you will discover the deliberate mistake. Followers of Islam believe only Allah makes things perfectly, and therefore to weave a perfect rug or carpet would be an offence to God. If you are plagued with perfectionism, or find yourself being hyper critical of your work, I have a resource to help. This episode is a story of an amazing "Bansky" type of project our guest Michael Lamb, his wife and two kids embraced leading up to Mike's 50th birthday milestone. One year in the making, the Lamb family designed, created and anonymously deployed seven massive pieces of art throughout the San Diego community. In the seven weeks leading up to his birthday event, each week a new piece of "pop-up" art would be installed in the middle of the night at random locations that were symbolically selected by Mike and his "secret team." This project not only got weekly news and extensive social media coverage, but it inspired and engaged the entire surrounding community. Each of the seven pieces had special meaning to Mike, and were cleverly designed and constructed by the entire Lamb family. This story and journey is an inspiration to all that taking on something big in scale is possible, including our kids and family in the process is an invaluable experience, and the positive effects are far greater then just the gesture and act.
