Here he comes to save the day! Kevin, that is, bringing with him six entries (three episodes' worth combined) of Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures, the 1987 Mighty Mouse reboot (not to be confused with 1980's The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse and Heckle & Jeckle). Listen as Kevin gingerly guides Chris through a slate of first season episodes, produced by Bakshi studios under the eye of (now exposed and reviled) Ren & Stimpy creator John Kricfalusi, whose off-kilter influence is abundantly evident.

The cultural impact of Batman '66 was felt for decades after, and still reverberates. This time we discuss a couple more late-20th-century cartoons that showed evidence of that impact: Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures, which in 1987 gave us Night of the Bat-Bat, featuring Bat-Bat, a hero with the powers of a bat and a penchant for corny one-liners; and numerous episodes of The Simpsons, including 1992's Mr. Plow, in which Adam West makes a couple of heavily-Bat-referencing appearances; and 1995's Radioactive Man, which gives us the "campy '70s version" of that hero. Holy stand-in! What ties these terrible men to one another? How they have treated young people and children. They also prove that thinking you're serving the greater good by giving platform and power to predators, is so basic. Most importantly, it's dangerous. The 1990s have become known as the Golden Age of Nickelodeon Studios and nostalgia always comes into play when that decade is mentioned. Mathew Klickstein felt the same way, so he wrote Slimed! An Oral History of Nickelodeon’s Golden Age chronicling the adventures of cast, crew, and other cool people from the “only kid’s network.” Episode 6 Show Notes • Whitney tells Matt she had been searching Nickelodeon’s history herself. He tells her that a lot of people told him they wanted to write a book on Nick, but they never got around to it. He affirms there are a lot more stories to tell about “the only kid’s network.” • He recommends reading the academic book Nickelodeon Nation by Heather Hendershot. • Matt discusses details about how it was published and why he decided to write an oral history of Nickelodeon. • Whitney asks questions about why Matt formatted the book the way he did, especially when it comes to information about his interviewees. • Matt interviewed over 250 people for the book. He also had to leave out a lot of material. • To track people down, it was actually the easiest getting Melissa Joan Hart, Kenan Thompson, and others. It was extremely difficulty getting people who worked on only one show, like Richard Price. • Six degrees really comes into play for rounding up the interviewees. • Slimed was more like producing a documentary than writing a book. Matt loves oral history, but he wants his next book to be in prose. • In the early days, Nickelodeon licensed cartoons to air on the station. Nickelodeon made Looney Tunes popular again. When the licensing came up again, Warner Brothers wanted more money from Nickelodeon. • We can thank the FCC for putting an end to 30 minute long toy commercials. Networks were also finally allowed to produce their own cartoons. • The original three cartoons were: Doug, Ren and Stimpy, and Rugrats. • Nickelodeon found six shows they made pilots for. They found potential shows by literary going to animator’s garage. • Whitney mentions the yearly Nickelodeon writing and animation contest. Both discuss how Nick has changed its content and yet remained the same. • Whitney brings up Ren and Stimpy and Matt discusses its heated history. • The creator John Kricfalusi had an ill reputation, though he is a creative genius. • Whitney and Matt talk about making something new and original. Neither wants to repeat the creative past. • Money is a necessary evil. Whitney mentions some of her hopes before she got her book contract. Matt recommends people use a publisher and gives his advice about self-publishing and YouTube. • Matt’s favorite NickToon is Ren and Stimpy and Whitney’s is Aah! On this episode of the Holy Nerdy Podcast, Eddie Medina joins us yet again to hang out, laugh, and talk Star Wars, specifically to discuss and review Disney’s latest return to a galaxy far, far, away, Solo: A Star Wars Story. There was a ton of negativity both from fans and behind the scenes of this new Star Wars flick that some deemed “unessesary”. So far the movie is having a tough time finding an audience and it’s box office numbers are taking a hit. Did the negative fans doom the movie from the get go, or was it simply a dull snooze fest? We dissect the facts and give our honest opinions.   Rantcor Pit Podcast - https://www.dallasonair.com/ttherantcorpit Figments: The Unexplained Mysteries Podcast - https://www.dallasonair.com/figments Kingdom Comics - https://kingdomcomicsonline.com/   Follow Eddie Medina on Social Media Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/edmedart/ Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/eddie.edmedart Rantcor Pit Podcast Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/therantcorpit/ Figments: The Unexplained Mysteries Podcast Facebook- https://www.facebook.com/figmentsshow/ Rantcor Pit Podcast Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/rantcorpit/ Figments: The Unexplained Mysteries Podcast Instagram- https://www.instagram.com/figmentspodcast/ Rantcor Pit Podcast Youtube- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAwowmlStxwTLYQJkbSjL6g   TOPICS Eddie Medina Returns!! So if you are a die hard fan of the show as we are, or even a casual fan, or even if you are interested in learning about the life of one of the most influential cartoons in the history of animation, we urge you to check out their campaign and back it if you are able.   Happy! This is in my opinion one of the best anime conventions I have ever attended and I got to see tons of official and cool fan made works, watch some very interesting panels about the creators in the industry, as well as meet some of the greatest animators, scriptwriters, musicians, and voice actors in the business. I had a very fun time and can't wait until it comes around again next year. Caleb and I are currently preppring for our first "Bonus" episode detailing the history as well as audio commentary of the short lived and hugely divisive series featuring our favorite psychotic chihuahua and dimwitted cat, The Ren & Stimpy: Adult Party Cartoon. We will be releasing the first episode for free soon. The next episode containing more history as well as commentary on the next episode in the series will be released as soon as we hit 10 Reviews on ITunes. Additional episodes after that will be released at 10 review intervals until we complete the animated series. We are really looking forward to these bonus episodes. We have done our homework and have compiled a treasure trove of backstory and history on creator John Kricfalusi including introductions for each episode from John K. himself.   Topics Happy! Happy! (RIGHT CLICK THE IMAGE TO SAVE THIS EPISODE TO YOUR COMPUTER) Penguin, Joker, Riddler, and Catwoman have all teamed up to hatch a plot that not only threatens Gotham City, not only threatens the country, but rather threatens the entire world.  Their objective - the United World Organization main assembly.  And only two people stand in their way - Batman and Robin.  Can the Dynamic Duo stop the Fearsome Foursome with the aid of their newest entries in their crimefighting arsenal?  Stay glued to your seats, Citizens.  It's going to be a bumpy ride as John is joined by Geek Radio Daily's Billy Flynn, Cinefantatique Online's Dan Person, and Gotham City 14 Miles editor and writer, Jim Beard to discuss the 1966 movie. Comment on the episode here or write thebatcavepodcast@gmail.com. Take a moment to rate the episode by using our star system at the bottom of this entry.   Bill Vernon, AKA the Wonderful Billy Flynn, brings the funny each week on Geek Radio Daily! His daytime alter ego is mild-mannered (well, that part is a stretch) on-air talent at WRAR Radio Station in Virginia. He actually gets paid to sit on his butt and run his mouth! His “edumacation” is from UNC-Wilmington and the Columbia School of Broadcasting. When he is not gracing the podcasting airways with his comedic stylings, you can find Billy Flynn on Xbox Live (flynn71), rockin' out on Guitar Hero or Rock Band, watching movies, reading comics, working out, or posting on the forums at Geek Radio Daily.com (ding!)            In his twenty plus years as writer and film journalist, Dan Persons has interviewed the likes of Paul Verhoeven, Wes Craven, Stuart Gordon, Satoshi Kon and John Kricfalusi; published the well-received novella, "A Game of the Apocalypse", in The Ultimate Silver Surfer, edited by The Chronic Rift's own Keith R.A. Decandido; and been an occasional, and somewhat peculiar, guest on the public access incarnation of the Rift. He presently is the host of Mighty Movies Temple of Bad, Mighty Movie Podcast, and The Cinefantastique Podcast when he isn't haunting the dining room of his local Popeye's.       A native of Toledo, Ohio, Jim Beard was introduced to comic books at an early age by his father, who passed on to him a love for the medium and the pulp characters who preceded it. After decades of reading, collecting and dissecting comics, Jim became a published writer when he sold a story to DC Comics in 2002. Since that time he's written official Star Wars and Ghostbusters comic stories and contributed articles and essays to several volumes of comic book history. His prose work includes GOTHAM CITY 14 MILES, a book of essays on the 1966 Batman TV series; SGT. JANUS, SPIRIT-BREAKER, a collection of pulp ghost stories featuring an Edwardian occult detective; MONSTER EARTH, a giant monster anthology; and CAPTAIN ACTION: RIDDLE OF THE GLOWING MEN, the first pulp prose novel based on the classic 1960s action figure. Currently, Jim provides regular content for Marvel.com, the official Marvel Comics website, and is a regular columnist for Toledo Free Press. For years, John Kricfalusi fought the “factory system” in animation. From his time at Filmation Associates and DiC Entertainment to his work on the revolutionary Mighty Mouse remake and the creation of his own hit show Ren and Stimpy for Nickelodeon, John K has looked for a way to make beautiful and original cartoons for studios that want to churn out animation quickly and cheaply. Thanks to the Internet, John K is now being given a chance to make cartoons the way he’s always wanted to make them. He has set up a fundraising drive on Kickstarter to raise money for “Cans Without Labels,” an animated short featuring George Liquor, Ren and Stimpy’s outspoken Republican owner. The Kickstarter campaign allows him to bring the cartoons he loves making directly to the fans, without all of those pesky middle men. With only days left to go in the campaign, we sat down to talk to John K about this exciting new territory for cartoons and the struggles with the factory system that led him to this project.

The amazing John Kricfalusi comes to our Nerdmelt space with Chris and Jonah to talk about Ren & Stimpy, working with Ralph Bakshi, Laverne & Shirley in Space and the time he and Bob Clampett hijacked a parade float.
