Rebecca Russell, essential oil expert, author, and speaker, knows what it means to “choose your hard.” For over 25 years, she has focused on living a holistic lifestyle to fight a predicted diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes—and she's winning the battle! When, at 58 years old, she was introduced to doTERRA, a company with a fantastic philanthropic spirit supported by actions, and the purest oils, she dove into her next chapter as a Certified Essential Oil Expert and speaker on how to age with a quality of life. She loves teaching about the power of essential oils and empowering others to take charge of their health, especially those challenged with unbalanced blood sugar levels. She is currently working on a book that will reveal her “secrets” for thriving more at 66 than 36, despite her poor genes, with the intention of giving hope to others that it's possible for them as well. Key Takeaways Empowering Holistic Health Choices: Rebecca's journey exemplifies the power of choosing proactive, holistic approaches to health, even in the face of genetic predispositions. Her commitment to a natural lifestyle has helped her manage blood sugar levels and is an inspiring example that proactive health choices can make a meaningful impact. Discovering Purpose Through Essential Oils: Rebecca's introduction to doTERRA at 58 marked a pivotal chapter in her life, where she found both purpose and a powerful tool in essential oils to support balanced health. Her dedication to teaching others reflects her belief in the oils' potential to enhance wellness, particularly for those managing blood sugar challenges and striving for better health. Aging with Vitality and Hope: Through her upcoming book, Rebecca aims to demystify her approach to thriving in her sixties, despite genetic challenges. By sharing her "secrets," she hopes to give hope to others, showing that with the right tools and mindset, vibrant health and longevity are possible for anyone, regardless of age or genetic background. https://rebeccarussell.com/

Sermon Text: Isaiah 7:1-16 Sermon Title: “The Greater David: A New Hope” Sermon Slides: SLIDE 1 – Today's Big Idea: If our Hope is in Man, If our Hope is in Circumstance, We'll End up Hopeless. So, Hope in God! SLIDE 2 – 2 Samuel 7:12-15 – “When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. When he commits iniquity, I will discipline him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men, but my steadfast love will not depart from him, as I took it from Saul.” SLIDE 3 – 2 Chronicles 13:5 – “Don't you realize that the Lord, the God of Israel, made a lasting covenant with David, giving him and his descendants the throne of Israel forever?” SLIDE 4 – Sermon Point 1 – Hope Fades: King Ahaz is a Son of David … But Not the Greater David (vv. 1-12) SLIDE 5 – 2 Chronicles 28:5-6 – “The Lord his God gave him [Ahaz] into the hand of the king of Syria, who defeated him and took captive a great number of his people and brought them to Damascus. He was also given into the hand of the king of Israel, who struck him with great force. For Pekah the son of Remaliah killed 120,000 from Judah in one day, all of them men of valor, because they had forsaken the Lord, the God of their fathers.” SLIDE 6 – Psalm 2:1-3, 6 – “Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying, ‘Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us' … ‘As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.'” SLIDE 7 – Hebrews 11:1, 6 – “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen … And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” SLIDE 8 – Psalm 2:8-9 – “Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.” SLIDE 9 – 2 Chronicles 28:1-4 – “Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. And he did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord, as his father David had done, but he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel. He even made metal images for the Baals, and he made offerings in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom and burned his sons as an offering, according to the abominations of the nations whom the Lord drove out before the people of Israel. And he sacrificed and made offerings on the high places and on the hills and under every green tree.” SLIDE 10 – Sermon Point 2 – Hope Restored: King Immanuel is the Greater David … And He Comes with a Sign (vv. 13-16) SLIDE 11 – Hebrews 2:1-4 – “Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.” SLIDE 12 – Three Uses of This Sermon for Your Life SLIDE 13 – Being in the House of God is not Enough for Salvation, You Must Put Your Trust in Christ. SLIDE 14 – The God Who is with Us, Reveals the God Who is For Us. SLIDE 15 – Our Ultimate Hope Must be in the Leader God Made His Promise of Hope Through.

This emotional and very transparent episode tells of Bob and Kelly's lessons during their ordeal with COVID. Bob shares his thoughts from a sermon he listened to in the hospital, which was preached by their pastor, Scott Wakefield (First Christian Church). The text that was used in the sermon was Lamentations 3:16-24. Both Bob and Kelly also share songs that helped them through their COVID fire ("Praise You in the Storm, by Casting Crowns; "Bring the Rain" by Mercy Me). My reading time has fluxuated greatly in the past year. And after only hitting 50% of my reading goal in 2020, I knew I wanted to really dive back into better reading habits this year. And so far, I'm smashing my reading goals and have formed some new habits. In this episode, I'm going to share some reviews for 10 of the books I've read so far this year (out of 33) and then share what has been helping me this year in reading more. Let's dive in! Listen to the Podcast: And don’t forget to subscribe to the podcast in iTunes. Right click here and save-as to download this episode to your computer. What's helping me this year compared to last: Getting excited about reading again! I bought some new books to get excited and its helping me work through old ones Going back to reading 1 chapter of a non fiction book a day: currently working through a beastly systematic theology doing this. Setting an easier goal so I feel excited when I break it instead of just feeling supppper behind. Making it habit to listen through audiobooks again in nooks and crannies. My favorite books read so far this year: You can follow me over on Goodreads to keep up to date on what I'm reading. But here's some of our favs! As a family we are currently reading through the Chronicles of Narnia. This is our first time reading the whole series with all the kids and we are going through it very slowly when we have travel days! We are also on book #1 of the Wingfeather Saga as a family and are really enjoying it. Hope Through the Holy Spirit Romans 5:5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. Hope is a feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen. Expectations and desires are not the issue, it is: What are we desiring and Expecting? Why do you want it? How did you come by the expectation and desire? When do you want to have it? Expectation and Desire don't just happen. It is either motivated internally or externally. Internal: Experience, feelings, emotion, pain, knowledge, pattern and status. External: People, events, materials, environment and Physical presence. The most variable beyond is world is hope that is either planted by God or the enemy. God will plant a hope through the help of the Holy Spirit. The enemy will plant hope through lust (eyes, flesh & pride of life). The question is which one is life and which one is death? Deuteronomy 30:19 NLT “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! I will choose life because it is will give us abundance on this earth and eternal. Holy Spirit will only fulfil hopes that will Draw you to God. Love your neighbour. Fulfil God's purpose. 2 Corinthians 10:15 NLT Nor do we boast and claim credit for the work someone else has done. Instead, we hope that your faith will grow so that the boundaries of our work among you will be extended.
Today we're revisiting a conversation that Dr. Dan Allender had a few years ago with Dr. Chelle Stearns, Associate Professor of Theology at The Seattle School, exploring her ongoing work of developing a theology of abuse. She believes that as a theologian, an artist, and a witness of other artists, she is called—and we are called—to hold together immense sorrow and stunning beauty. Ultimately, Chelle invites us to wrestle with how we address trauma in view of the embodied life of Christ, and how this might change the way we tend to the stories of harm in our own lives and communities. He just says what they have in common.” - Linsey Davis “Let's say, ‘Hey, we have different color skin and hair and features and likes and dislikes. But guess what? God gave us all this one unique gift. He gave us all one big heart and that's the most important part, because that's where love starts.’” - Linsey Davis “From the very beginning, we wanted Grace Anna, even when the doctors didn't give us a whole lot of hope.” - Angela Rodgers “What would touch my heart so deeply is you would see these colonels and these generals with all these medals be brought to tears when Grace Anna would sing the national anthem.” - Angela Rodgers “Sometimes you go through things that change who we become.” - Angela Rodgers “I think God made each of us with unique gifts. We’re all different in some way. So we can show love by being kind and trying to learn from each other.” - Grace Anna Rodgers ________________________ Enjoy these videos on Jesus Calling YouTube channel: Audio podcast: https://bit.ly/2uCnNM0 Original Series video podcast: https://bit.ly/2WzFY0O ________________________ Connect with Jesus Calling Instagram Facebook Twitter Pinterest YouTube Jesus Calling Website
