Ken welcomes Osahon for another Cabana Talk and a review of the Super Bowl Half-Time Show. They invite their good friend Grant Young, a Play Station engineer they met in a Table Talk hosted by Ken and Osahon in 2021. As the Philadelphia Eagles met the Kansas City Chiefs for Super Bowl VIX, the epic half-time performance featured rapper Kendrick Lamar, Pulitzer Prize winner with 17 Grammys (47 nominations), twice named among TIME MAGAZINE's Most Influential Person of the Year, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and many other awards. Osahon and Grant have been long-time fans - and with enthusiasm watched the show together with great interest. From personal experience, both Osahon and Grant (a graduate of California Baptist University with both Bachelor's and Master's degrees) know white evangelical spaces well and lament much of the misplaced controversy around the famed Hip-Hop artist. They explain the very public, long-time tension between Lamar and Drake; the appearance of Samuel L. Jackson and Serena Williams; and the elegant symbolism on full display throughout the show. Ken, Osahon, and Grant agree with the USA TODAY Opinion that “The Super Bowl was a rejection of Trump's Vision for America.” It was the first time in history that a sitting President appeared in person at the Super Bowl. He sat through the tepid reception (as many boos as cheers), the conspicuous absence of camera focus on him, the black national anthem, the many black artists who performed, the powerful half-time show, and the sound defeat of his favored Kansas City Chiefs. His later Truth Social posts confirmed that he was not pleased. This podcast is a lively, informative discussion of an event viewed by 128 million people around the globe. Doug & Diane recently had the opportunity to chat with George Marriner Maull (Founder & Artistic Director of The Discovery Orchestra) and Vocalist Cheryl Warfield (Founder of Manhattan Opera Repertory Ensemble or MORE) about their upcoming concert, Discover Angelitos Negros (Little Black Angels). Maull and Warfield – along with Composer & Pianist Patricio Molina – will present this special Black History Month concert at 3pm on Sunday, February 23rd at Grace Episcopal Church in Newark, New Jersey.During our conversation we touched upon the importance of bringing classical and operatic music into the spotlight and connecting new audiences to these genres through the innovative and immersive techniques spearheaded by their respective organizations. Maull's and Warfield's passion for music is contagious and their drive to make it accessible and more familiar is brilliant. We learned all about their musical backgrounds and experiences which have led them both to their careers. Angelitos Negros is a concert series launched in 2021 by MORE Opera to collectively serve Black and Latino communities severely impacted by the pandemic. The program was based on a poignant moment in the 1948 Mexican film of the same name in which a young child asks why there are no paintings by the great masters of Black angels. An acclaimed second iteration of Angelitos Negros was presented in December 2023, with composer-pianist Patricio Molina as musical director. The upcoming concert will feature a rousing rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” the James Weldon Johnson and J. Rosamond Johnson song known today as the Black National Anthem, in honor of its 125th anniversary; and a Discovery Concert exploration of “Hay una Antilla en Medio del Mar Caribe,” the traditional Dominican poem set to music, arranged by Molina.TDO is known for its teaching Discovery Concerts™ — musical performances featuring an interactive exploration segment that helps participants focus on specific details of the work — on stage and on the small screen. The Orchestra also presents community engagement programs in collaboration with its educational partners for underserved audiences in six New Jersey counties.Discover Angelitos Negros is free with registration at https://discoveryorchestra.org/angelitos-negros/. Groups wishing to attend should contact TDO Executive Director Rick Kaller at rick@discoveryorchestra.org. No matter the question, reading is the answer. And in a year starting off like 2025 is, we certainly need a lot of answers to life's questions. I am thrilled to welcome fellow Angeleno bookworm Traci Thomas (host of The Stacks podcast) to talk about the most anticipated new book releases of 2025. We talk about novels and nonfiction by debut and beloved authors publishing this year and sorry not sorry about this conversation that will send your book budget soaring. There are so many good books to look forward to in the next six months. Also in this episode, Traci really gives me a lot to think about in terms of how we talk about books and why it's okay to be publicly critical of books that don't work for us. The NFL operates on speech and moving images. You would think then that they'd have some respect for the first amendment they don't. The Truth continues Season 3 with a new episode! Listen in as the Truth chronicles the history of our national anthem and its dark past. For many, our national anthem has become synonymous with what it means to be an American. But for so many others, including Black Americans, it has become a reminder of the past, leading to the adoption of Lift Every Voice and Sing as the Black National Anthem! This year, the Super Bowl played both, and it's clear the divide in America is still very real. Is there room for both? "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. Beginning with a performance of “Lift Every Voice,” also known as the “Black National Anthem,” Pastor Brent examines the crossing of the Red Sea—God's people in the book of Exodus finally freed from the Egyptians; the climax of their story. The credibility of this story has been questioned for centuries. But we need to understand—what does this story mean and how can it change our lives? The answer to both is simple—God saves people who cannot save themselves.

Why are conservatives so mad the Black National Anthem was performed at the Super Bowl? Plus, did Travis Kelce cross the line at the big game, was the whole thing rigged, and the odd commercial that got everyone talking. Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz announced before the Super Bowl on Sunday that he wasn't going to allow his wife to watch the game because the game was going to feature the "Black National Anthem" before kickoff. The song, actually called "Lift Every Voice and Sing", has been performed for the past few years at the game, but Gaetz is so angered by the thought of Black people feeling empowered and inspired that he won't allow his wife to enjoy the game. Also, Donald Trump has gone completely off the deep end at this point, and he is now trying to take credit for Taylor Swift becoming one of the biggest artists of all time. In a Truth Social post on Sunday, Trump attacked Swift by claiming that a bill he signed is what made her "so much money," and he then said that she would be being "disloyal" to him if she endorsed President Biden. Trump has had in it for Swift since 2018 when she endorsed candidates running against his friends, but he's completely delusional if he thinks he had anything to do with her success. And thanks to the Special Prosecutor's report, President Biden's mental fitness has been called into question over the past few days. And while there are reasons to be concerned about Biden, they don't stack up against the mental problems that Donald Trump is facing. The Morning Joe crew on MSNBC put together a shocking supercut of all of Trump's gaffes and incoherent ramblings from the past weekend, and there were plenty from just a handful of appearances. Farron Cousins explains why Trump's mental health is a greater concern than Biden's. Finally, a group of Donald Trump's allies are about to hold a two-day retreat where they will teach Trump loyalists how to blindly follow Trump's orders if they are to receive a Cabinet post (assuming he wins the election this year.) This is an absolutely terrifying development that deserves far more attention. These people are being groomed to serve as spineless "Yes Men" at Trump's disposal, and will remake the government in any form that he instructs them to do.Subscribe to our YouTube channel to stay up to date on all of Farron's content: https://www.youtube.com/FarronBalancedFollow Farron on social media!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FarronBalanced/Twitter: https://twitter.com/farronbalancedInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/farronbalancedTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@farronbalanced?lang=en
Stephen A Smith gives SHOCKING response to the Black National Anthem controversy at the Super Bowl!
Today we're recapping last night's Super Bowl and breaking down the 'He Gets Us' campaign, which paid for two ad spots in last night's game. We explain the two 'He Gets Us' ads and how they don't actually share the gospel, but instead affirm that Christianity is actually about us to people who already dislike Christianity. We talk about what this ad campaign misses about Jesus, and how essential the full truth of the gospel is when you have the money, time and ability to convey the gospel message in 45 seconds during the Super Bowl. We explain why you shouldn't be discouraged by this, and how we can be praying for people to hear the real, unapologetic gospel. Then, we discuss the shooting that occurred at Joel Osteen's church yesterday afternoon and the strange pattern that this event follows. Dennis starts his “new” show. New start time (top of the hour). And two hours (he needs more time for his many other projects, including PragerU)… Why is the so-called Black National Anthem being played at the Super Bowl. Are we two nations? The NFL is destructive force in society, but people love football, so it thrives… Bill Gates advocates for global government. UCLA medical students are assigned to read articles contending that open borders is an “imagined crisis” dreamed up by Republicans. The real crisis is climate change and capitalism… Canada is retreating to “separate but equal.”…The UN runs schools in West Bank and Gaza that teach children to kill Jews… Thanks for listening to the Daily Dennis Prager Podcast. The woke NFL is doing it again, gang! They're pushing the so-called black national anthem and football fans are furious! There's a real woke backlash happening throughout the nation, and you won't believe how it manifested itself at the latest Kansas City Chiefs game. Find out why that backlash is just getting started! Highlights: “The good news is that far more recognized the obviously divisive implications of the two national anthems, one person tweeted out: ‘Why would we EVER need a black national anthem unless you want to cause racial division?!'.” “The modern left is turning very definitely into an ethno-nationalist movement, the logical outworking of which is, unfortunately, the eventual balkanization of our nation! The only way we can effectively fight back against this is through championing the MAGA movement!” Timestamps: [00:49] Fans boo the black national anthem at Kansas City Chiefs [02:35] More people recognizing the obviously divisive implications of the two national anthems [07:46] The fundamental transformation that's happening to the woke left Resources: Start the 24/7 Protection of Your Home and Equity Today!
