Damien Dessagne is the CEO of Embers, developer of Strayed Lights (2023) and Maxime Philipp is the project's game Director. I discovered Strayed Lights at PAX East 2023. Strayed Lights is a 3D action game with a wordless story and very disctinct visuals. I played it on Playstation, but you can also get it on Xbox, Switch, and PC. The gameplay is difficult, demanding, and ultimately rewarding. I recommend it! In this episode we will discuss creating a game dev company, project management, wordless storytelling, designing boss battles, playtesting, developing a tutorial, creating platform-specific features for your multi-platform game, hitting deadlines, showing your game at PAX, inflation in the games industry, and much more. On this episode of Got Our Attention, Mike and Bruno are on assignment so Brian and Kelly hold down the fort. We learn that Kelly knows absolutely nothing about Harry Potter, shocking Brian and the audience in chat. Brian is kind enough to educate her, but we suspect Mike will be organizing a Harry Potter intervention for her soon. Brian also gives us the history behind the two-fingered/European version of ‘the bird' which is fascinating! We also find out how great Brian is at blowing eggs. In Kelly's Korner, we hear about a hiker from Brooklyn who has to be rescued. From a snowy mountain trail. Twice. In two consecutive days. Will wonders never cease? Also, bless his heart… Also: Microsoft is developing a solution for Indie Devs that may give them a serious leg up. Do you suffer from sweaty gamer hands too? Then you should pass on the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Xbox Series S sweepstakes. You're never going to believe how much money Fortnite has raised for Ukraine! Indie Game Movement - The podcast about the business and marketing of indie games.
When you start sharing your game with the world, everything you do from then on deals with messaging. While you may have a good idea of what your studio and game are, sometimes how you convey that to others isn't in the clearest or concise way. That's why Mustapha and I are here to help discuss how important it is to clarify your messaging and some tips on ways you can do that, so when you start promoting your game, people have a clear idea of exactly what to expect from you.

Indie Game Movement - The podcast about the business and marketing of indie games.
Out of all the different ways that games can get attention, the method that has stood the longest has been events. While major events like E3 started with different intentions compared to today, it's a telling sign how the event landscape has shifted for numerous reasons, but one being the continued growth of indie games. Discussing everything from changing times, format, and delivery of these events, Mustapha and I talk about the impact major events have had but more importantly ways to view and approach them as an opportunity to stand out.
The Walt Disney Corporation's Games division is apparently signaling that it's open licensing its characters and settings to a broader group of game developers. In a conversation with IGN's Rebekah Valentine, Disney SVP of Walt Disney Games Sean Shoptaw & VP of Disney & Pixar Games Luigi Priore dropped some tantalizing comments both about unannounced upcoming titles, but also what kinds of developers the company is open to partnering with in the coming years. Their comments seem to indicate the company is actively interested in fielding pitches from indie developers to make games using its characters, alongside larger triple-A licensors like Ubisoft and Electronic Arts. Welcome to Episode 75 of Grief Burrito! This week the Burrito Bois have got a super special episode ahead for you. They managed to wrangle a real life Triple A Game Developer in the form of Carlos Sanchez who has worked on some seriously huge games like Madden, Destiny 1 & 2 and the Forza Horizon 4! They get super in-depth about what it's like during the process of creating a game with budgets in the millions, how to keep calm, how to stay focused and even the feeling of only shipping 20% of the game you want to make! It can be a huge task moving from one franchise to another and especially during the next gen shift like we're seeing with the Series X and the PS5 so the Burrito Bois felt tasked with finding out all the advice they could for up and coming game developers and Indie Devs who are looking for some tips! A heads up later in the episode there are SPOILERS FOR DESTINY 2, please be aware going in. Jordan being a HUGE Destiny fan has to know Carlos' favourite character it's probably Nathan Fillions character! While organic reach on Twitter is strong, it can still be a challenge to develop effective awareness strategies that convert into a community while still working on your game. That’s why Niclas Marie is going to share his methods and tips on how you can ramp up your Twitter presence and still be able to focus on development.

That also means a lot of distractions can arise, making it a challenge to keep a pulse on the market and build their brand. However, it can be difficult to determine what a customer really wants. It’s a big question we all face at one point or another. When does an indie dev get to the point where they should seriously consider taking it to the next step and form their own company. Starting any kind of side venture, it may be a big step but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take things seriously. At the very least, having some idea of what you want to do is important. In this episode, Mustapha and I share our own personal experiences with forming our own companies, what the procedure was like for us and what we learned from it so you don’t have to sweat the small stuff when deciding if forming a company is right for you!

Out of the gate, indie devs are faced with a bunch of challenges from coming up with the concept of their game to...well frankly everything else. Of course, it’s hard to be on top of everything, but there are just some areas devs really can’t afford to skip. Specifically, that’s legal matters. It might not seem like it matters much, but there is nothing worse than stepping into a legal mess that could have been avoided. Thankfully, Zachary Rich of Press Start Legal is here to talk with us about when is the right time to consider legal assistance, in what scenarios you would need help and how you can take action now so you don’t get caught off guard later when you least expect it.

Real shame since even a retweet from Nintendo probably would have given us a big boost in visibility. I get that it was just a port, but after spending months getting stonewalled by Nintendo when we were trying to get permission to release on Switch, going "fine, we'll play by your rules" and getting a publisher so we could get approved, and still getting ignored by Nintendo when the game was done and set to release is highly frustrating." "It's a good game and I daresay a good percent of those million+ people who bought Octopath Traveler would like our game if they knew it existed. We couldn't even get somebody to fix our store page before launch (which never indicated that the game had a preorder/early purchase sale and until just recently, didn't even have our trailer on it) and the page went up about a month before launch so there was plenty of time."Blade Strangers for Nintendo Switch - Nintendo Game DetailsMutant Mudds Collection for Nintendo Switch - Nintendo Game Details --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

In our seventh episode, the guys are joined by a special guest: Playism Bryan, of social media acclaim! Dan pipes in via Skype, so his voice is a bit garbled in comparison but still quite peppy. Though the time frame is shorter on this episode than previous ones, all three members do their best to talk about Tokyo Game Show and how the experience was for them. Nayan defends figure skating while condemning Japanese idols, Dan talks about the amazing indie games he played in Hall 9, and Bryan mentions how much of a nightmare the main hall can be on public days. Tune in and enjoy this bite-sized episode of J-Play, "A Sea of People."
In this episode of J-Play, Nayan and Dan resurrect the podcast after returning from PAX Prime. We discuss a bit about what Playism is and what the guys do in Playism, as well as a bit about what they've been playing recently. Nayan examines the "not MGS" feel of Metal Gear Solid V, while Dan appreciates the meta of The Magic Circle. Later on, the guys discuss exactly what they saw at PAX Prime and the great things they witnesses in Seattle. We appreciate the weather, indie devs, AAA titles and hard working janitors. All this and more on Episode 6 - I Can Sprint Forever!
J-Play is a look at personal and professional gaming news and insights from the perspective of Japanese game publisher Playism. Join us each week as several members of the team have a roundtable discussion of announcements, developments or even just personal anecdotes regarding gaming lifestyle, both new and old. 4Twenty Gaming with Tony Capp. our guest is part of a new organization focused on bringing our "cannabis creators" together. From Indie Developers, Content Creators, Music, Art, etc., all created by people who use Cannabis in some shape or form. Studies suggest that this process releases dopamine and stimulates your reward system. What is the reward system though, and how does it relate to weed and video games? Well, the reward system releases dopamine and makes you feel good when you complete a task or satisfy a need. Smoking weed releases more dopamine, making you feel more accomplished and satisfied with small tasks like completing a game quest or finding valuable loot items. 4Twenty Gaming supports Indie Devs, Small Business, Gamers, Streamers, Dreamers, Creators, and Inspirers, All in the Name of Cannabis!
