Today's show is the last of its kind for the go all in show. Over the last few months I've been reflecting on the podcast, the content, the people and the direction that I want to take this. Over the past 18-months the world has changed radically for me, and I am now at a point in my life where I still want to record podcasts, share knowledge but not in the same way that I was. By the end of today's show you'll have a good understanding of where I'm at, the new direction that I'll be taking with the go all in show and what you can do to join me on this wild ride ahead. The past few years of interviewing people has been amazing for me. Having my own podcast has opened so many doors. As we all know so much happened in 2020 and 2021. Most of it terrible, however when life deals you a rough hand you need to make the most of what you have and pivot into a direction that will help you discover the fulfillment that you are seeking in life. On EP99 of the #goallin podcast I sat down with Sam Livingston from Sam's on Fire.As you’ll hear is a veteran of both the US Marines and the American Army. He was deployed on 2 tours, 1 to Iraq and the other to Afghanistan but the stories that he shares with us today are not quite what you think. They are much deeper than you’ll expect.Now, unless you’ve been in the military you probably wouldn’t know that many of the things that you do on a day to day basis are a metaphor for life. One fun one that has stayed with me is that there is always someone doing it tougher than you and I love that one because it is so very grounding and usually snaps me out of any pity party I might be attending or thinking of attending. Like everyone I’ve felt sorry for myself at times but when I lift up my head and look around I can see others that have it much less worse than me and that is grounding and empowering and reminds me that I’m in charge of my own feelings not circumstances.In the military, and particularly in the infantry when someone is doing it a little tougher than you that can be a little funny. When you look over at your mate lugging a heavy machine gun you realise that you don’t have much to complain about compared to them and after the initial jokes are made and the fun has been poked there is always a mate that has your back to help you there and I love that as well. That is also a metaphor for life and a reminder that you never have to go it alone and there is always someone to help you - all you have to do is ask.As you’ll hear Sam’s experiences overseas in war zones required him to look deep inside of himself and muster strength, patience and determination that no amount of training could ever teach and, without realising at the time, that patience and determination set him up for success post military.Attitude is everything in life and Sam has a positive outlook that is not only infectious but also very very inspiring. You can’t listen to a podcast like this and a guy like Sam and not feel inspired to do more. This to me was the coolest thing ever and every time I went out it was my very own adventure. I always loved the ocean and to be able to spend extended periods of time below the surface had a big impact on my life growing up and as an adult where I even found myself with a second job as a ship’s diver in the Navy.Our guest today has over 40-years of scuba diving experience. When you look over his achievements he has done pretty much everything there is to do in the scuba diving world including deep diving on mixed gases and cave diving in freshwater.Mark has balanced the demands of his practice as a dental surgeon with a passion for underwater exploration and photography.His documentation of subterranean fresh-water caves and deep shipwrecks with a stills camera has seen his work published in Australian Geographic and diving publications world-wide.In 1998, with the assistance of the Royal Australian Navy, he led a team of divers and a maritime archaeologist to Turkey to confirm the Turkish discovery of Australia's WW1 submarine AE2, lying at a depth of 72 metres in the Sea of Marmara.Mark is a not only a deep diver but a very deep thinker as well. In my humble opinion there has never been a time in history than now to to live and work abroad as an expat.
