In this episode of EightyPercentMental Dr Pete Olusoga speaks with veteran Red Bull Air Race competitor and champion aerobatics pilot, Mike Goulian, and gets the perspective of veteran Mental Performance Coach, Dr Adam Naylor, on the psychology underpinning some of Mike's most memorable performances. A proposal to host a leg of the Air Race World Championship series in the Wheatbelt later this year has stalled after the WA government baulked at the $2 million funding request from the Northam shire. Shire president Chris Antonio said the global series, once known as the Red Bull Air Race that Perth hosted in the 2000s, would have attracted 50,000 spectators to the proposed event site at Northam Racecourse. "Our town is always looking for air events, we have a history of them here," he told 6PR Breakfast host Gareth Parker, in reference to several world ballooning championships the town holds. "It would probably bring $10 million to the state, once people are here, they will visit other parts of the state - the return on investment would be fantastic, not only for us but every other region and a lot of metro areas as well."See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In this short episode, Alex expands on the concept of perseverance and resilience. In episode #74 of the podcast, Alex spoke with Yoshi Muroya, the 2016 Red Bull Air Race World Champion. During that conversation, Yoshi explain how difficult it was to obtain the first sponsorship for and aerobatic aircraft in Japan. The had been no previous reference to airshows and Yoshi was attempting to start the ball rolling, but couldn't afford to operate the aircraft on his own. After more than 2000 rejections, he managed to land a sponsor, which later developed into the Red Bull Air Race in the Far East. The tenacity required to hear so many no's and still try again the next day is amazing. We don't often realise how much effort is required to achieve some of our lofty goals. If you have great ambitions for your life, you need to dig really deep. You will need a lot of perseverance, tenacity, skill and a good dose of luck too. I wish you all the best!Enjoy!Yoshi Muroyahttps://www.yoshi-muroya.jp/en/https://www.instagram.com/yoshi_muroyaGet in touch with Alex: alex@alexmacphail.co.zahttps://twitter.com/AlexMacPhail1https://www.linkedin.com/in/flyingmogulwww.alexmacphail.co.za

Hello friends, and welcome back to another episode of the festivalPass Stories podcast! Our host Pat Tully sits down with another fascinating guest that has been in the entertainment industry for over 20 years. It is our honor to introduce award-winning producer Chris Homsley. Television is one of the toughest trades to break into. Largely, it requires education, experience, strong connections, and technical and creative abilities. Even if you possess all those things, a run of good luck doesn't hurt either. Coming from a theatre background from Auburn University with ties in music, Chris knew that he wanted to be behind the scenes on large productions. With a BA in Mass Communications from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and having played in a few garage bands himself, Chris finally got the moment to prove himself doing audio production for a smaller network. His work ethic allowed him to rise in the tv production ranks, and it wasn't long before he was given the responsibility to produce his own projects. Director Robert Rodriguez once said, “when given the opportunity, deliver excellence and never quit.” You can say that this is the driving force behind Chris Homsley's impressive production career. What started with sound production, became being the Senior Production Coordinator for the iconic Salt Lake City Winter Olympic Games in 2002. Chris was assigned the responsibility of managing the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies of the games that year; the first international event since 9/11 at the time. Two years later, he was hired to be the Deputy Director of Operations for the opening and closing ceremonies for the Athens Summer Games. The Salt Lake Winter Olympics went on to win seven Emmy Awards. Speaking of awards, Chris's trophy case should be pretty full at this point. He's a multiple Emmy award winner; two of which come from his astonishing work with the Red Bull Air Race, which he produced for three years. And he has also captured not one, but three Themed Entertainment Association Awards. Chris has also worked on the Overwatch World Cup, the Crane Dance at Resort World Sentosa in Singapore, and done productions for ESPN, HBO, and Nascar. After all this, Chris hopes to work on a music festival one day. Pat actually breaks some huge FPS news that Chris is currently open for a new project right now. “It took somebody to come along and say the work that you are doing measures up quality-wise with everything else that's competing in this particular category. So, there are ways to win Emmys without being the star of the show.” - Chris Homsley Catch the interview on Festival Pass Stories! https://festivalpass.com/stories You can find Chris on: Chris Homsley's Website: https://chomsley.wixsite.com/projects Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/chrishomsley/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/chomsley/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/chrishomsley1 Connect with Festival Pass! Martin Šonka is the 2018 Red Bull Air Race World Champion. Martin, from Sezimovo Ústí, claimed his first overall crown, and the first for the Czech Republic, in a gripping title battle in 2018. As a pilot in the Czech Air Force, he flew a supersonic jet fighter, the JAS-39 Gripen, in the 211th Tactical Squadron and was a member of the prestigious Czech Air Force display team flying the L-159 ALCA. He also holds a master's degree from the Military Academy and the University of Pardubice.Šonka's aerobatics career started with gliders and then powered aircraft. Since joining the Czech aerobatic team in 2005, his achievements include European overall Vice Champion in the Unlimited category, two-time World Freestyle Vice Champion, three consecutive European Freestyle Championships, and eight Unlimited and seven Freestyle Championship wins at Czech Nationals.Get in touch with Alex to improve the performance of your team: alex@alexmacphail.co.zahttps://twitter.com/AlexMacPhail1https://www.linkedin.com/in/flyingmogulwww.alexmacphail.co.za

F1 fan Ben, former commander of the world famous Red Arrows, discusses the importance of never giving up when aiming for your dream career. Carzaam Automotive News #17 | Flying cars - Mercedes online - March VFacts Hello everyone, it’s Chilli here with another episode of Carzaam news where we talk about the latest in Autonomous Connected and Electric vehicles. Today we have a great episode including the imminent launch of a flying car Formula 1, another Manufacturer going direct to consumer and all the fallout from the March Vfacts figures in Australia … Enjoy! Australian New Vehicles Sales March 2020 Australian new vehicle sales took a hit in March as expected, but it wasn’t the disaster many may had feared. At least not in the numbers. VFACTS data showed that new car sales fell by 18% compared to March last year, at 81,690 sales. Airspeeder Flying Electric Car Grand Prix In something like a mashup of the Red Bull Air Race, Formula E and Podracing at Mos Espa, a new electric flying car race series is about to be launched. The series is a step closer as Alauda, the Australian manufacturer of the Airspeeded electric flying car announced the successful completion of a seed investment round. The Airspeeder electric flying racer will compete against others in a bid to help advance eVTOL technology for future sustainable transport. The idea is akin to Enzo Ferrari’s belief that racing motor cars, the white heat of competition, accelerates the technical development of the road car. Mercedes-Benz launches direct-to-consumer sales model for the EQC Electric Vehicle Mercedes-Benz is going to sell the EQC electric car direct to consumer in Australia reducing the role of dealerships in a bid to address buyer concerns. For those of you who follow me, you know I am always tuned into any news about manufacturers selling direct to consumer online, I think this will be the sales model of the future including Subscription, especially as we see fewer models released into the future. The model is to be exclusive to the EQC and the six other ‘EQ’ electric Mercedes models due in Australia by the end of 2023 and for now only nine Mercedes-Benz dealers are signed up. For the full episode and notes head to www.carzaam.com/blog or find out more about Car Subscription at www.carzaam.com/subscribe

My guest today is Matt Hall, Australia's top aviator. He has logged over 6,000 hours in various aircraft, including the F-18 Hornet and the F-15 Strike Eagle. He is a decorated Wing Commander in the Australian Air Force, a Fighter Combat Instructor (Australia's version of Top Gun), and in 1997 was named Australia's Fighter Pilot of the Year.Matt has also competed on the international level in aerobatics, winning the Australian Advanced Aerobatic Championship and finished first in Freestyle and second overall in the Unlimited category. For the last 10 years, Matt has been flying at the pinnacle of aviation racing--The Red Bull Air Race series. He is one of the top pilots, coming in second overall a record three times. With the final Red Bull race ever coming up, Matt is in second place with a chance to win the championship. What struck me most about Matt was his system's approach to winning. He has merged the training he did in the Air Force with an Olympic athlete's mindset. Every aspect of his life has been optimized so that on race day he can fly as fast as possible. In our conversation we talk about what it's like to pull 12G's, the time his wing hit the ocean during a race, his sports psychology training, and more. Shamil OM - live @ Red Bull Air Race (2018) by Shamil OM
Matt Hall has been described as the ‘best pilot on the planet'. Could you make precision decisions while travelling at 450 km/h and pulling 12G. Matt does .... routinely. Matt is an ex Air Force F-18 Hornet Pilot and Fighter Combat Instructor and is now a Red Bull Air Racer. He is an elite athlete, business owner and father. In this episode, Ben and Tim discuss Matt's flying history, including in the F-18 Hornet and also with the US Air Force on combat operations in an F-15 Eagle. We discuss why Matt left behind his Air Force Fighter Combat Instructor career and how & why he got into being a Red Bull Air Race pilot. The Red Bull Air Race is the Formula 1 of flying. It features the world's best pilots in the world's fastest motorsport competition that combines speed, precision and skill. Using the fastest, most agile, lightweight race planes, the pilots hit speeds of over 400km/h while enduring forces of up to 12G as they navigate a low level slalom track marked by 25-metre-high, air-filled pylons. And what about teamwork in the individual sport of Red Bull air racing? Matt discusses that too. Hang on to your seats…. This episode will take you over the edge of what is known about human performance. Amazing! Intelligence Summary (INTSUM) 2:20- Ben's Audio Association Game for Matt 4:20- Matt's early flying days 6:10- Matt's total hours…. And why that doesn't matter! Since 1884, Breitling has been obsessed with moving forward the art of precision chronometry, function, and, more recently, safety, with their innovative "Emergency" series of locator beacon-equipped wrist watches.
As if flying inverted at 100 feet above the runway on the airshow circuit weren't enough, pilot Michael Goulian also spends his days flying under bridges and within racetracks as part of the Red Bull Air Race series. Goulian is one of the nicest guys in the airshow business, and he sat down to earlier this year to charm our own Julie Walker.
