In this episode, we dive into the passionate, often heart-wrenching love life of Heracles, the demigod whose adventures went far beyond his legendary labors. Known for his superhuman strength, Heracles' story is also woven with deep, complex relationships that reveal the hero's vulnerabilities. From the loyalty of his male lover Iolaus to the tragic fate of his first wife Megara and the jealousy-driven actions of Hera, each relationship paints a vivid picture of love, loss, and redemption. Key Quotes: 1. “The animosity that Zeus' wife, Hera, harbored towards Heracles played a significant role in his life.” 2. “Heracles' life was also filled with many loves and relationships.” 3. “What happened with Megara was less than clear as, although Euripides states that Heracles also shot and murdered Megara, Pseudo-Apollodorus claims that Megara managed to flee.” 4. “Heracles, this most manly of heroes, was about to face further humiliation when he was made to wear women's clothes and help Omphale and her maidens spin.” 5. “Happy god! For he has done, His great work and he lives among the gods, Forever young, forever free from pain.” Unearth the tumultuous love life of Heracles, the Greek hero whose epic romances and tragic losses shaped myths for centuries. Tune in to explore how love, rivalry, and loss intertwined to define the life of this storied demigod and see how these ancient tales continue to resonate today.
Not only is this episode yet another monster for Heracles to hit really hard with his club, it's an opportunity to sneak some maths into the podcast! Wes and Nick start a their own legendary journey watching the Hercules Tv Show Movies with the first one being about amazon women who hate men and want to sleep with them at the same time. Travel back in time with us to the era of demigods and myths, as we unveil the quirky origins of "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" and its foundational TV movie, "Hercules and the Amazon Women." Experience a fresh take on Kevin Sorbo's earlier, more Herculean build and the impact his political opinions have had, akin to those of fellow actors Clint Eastwood and Bruce Willis. Our discussion doesn't shy away from the contentious, diving into Chris Pratt's religious controversy, but we always circle back to the classic tale of a muscle-bound hero in a world where Zeus might just be the most irresponsible father in mythology.Prepare for a hearty chuckle as we dissect the gender-bending hijinks and straight-to-the-point romance in the midst of a womanless village's conundrum. We spotlight an early appearance by Lucy Lawless and ponder the deus ex machina ending that somehow still leaves us charmed by the practical effects of '90s TV magic. So, arm yourself with snacks and nostalgia – our Movie Monday is an invitation to relive the adventures that paved the way for Xena and set the stage for Hercules' epic journey. Plot:Hercules returns home to visit his mother Alcmene and to the wedding of his best friend Iolaus. Out of the blue, the villager Pithus arrives asking for help to Hercules to defeat monsters that are attacking his distant village. Hercules travels with Iolaus to fight the monsters and soon they learn that they are indeed Amazons controlled by the evil Hera.Support the show:

It is in dactylic hexameter and contains 828 lines. At its center, the Works and Days is a farmer's almanac in which Hesiod instructs his brother Perses in the agricultural arts. Scholars have seen this work against a background of agrarian crisis in mainland Greece, which inspired a wave of colonial expeditions in search of new land. In the poem, Hesiod also offers his brother extensive moralizing advice on how he should live his life. Works and Days is perhaps best known for its two mythological aetiologies for the toil and pain that define the human condition: the story of Prometheus and Pandora, and the so-called Myth of Five Ages. ~~~ The Theogony (Greek: Θεογονία, Theogonía, [tʰeoɡoníaː], i.e. "the genealogy or birth of the gods"[1]) is a poem by Hesiod (8th–7th century BC) describing the origins and genealogies of the Greek gods, composed c. 730–700 BC.[2] It is written in the Epic dialect of Ancient Greek and contains 1022 lines. ~~~ The Shield of Heracles (Ancient Greek: Ἀσπὶς Ἡρακλέους, Aspis Hērakleous) is an archaic Greek epic poem that was attributed to Hesiod during antiquity. The subject of the poem is the expedition of Heracles and Iolaus against Cycnus, the son of Ares, who challenged Heracles to combat as Heracles was passing through Thessaly. It has been suggested that this epic may reflect anti-Thessalian feeling after the First Sacred War: in the epic, a Thessalian hero interfering with the Phocian sanctuary is killed by a Boeotian hero (Heracles), whose mortal father Amphitryon had for allies Locrians and Phocians. This was a pastiche made to be sung at a Boeotian festival at midsummer at the hottest time of the dogstar Sirios.[1] To serve as an introduction, fifty-six lines have been taken from the Hesiodic Catalogue of Women. The late 3rd- and early 2nd-century BC critic Aristophanes of Byzantium, who considered the Catalogue to be the work of Hesiod, noted the borrowing, which led him to suspect that the Shield was spurious.[2] The poem takes its cue from the extended description of the shield of Achilles in Iliad xviii, from which it borrows directly, with a single word altered: ~~~~~~~ From Me: Be Good Broadcast I just rebroadcast things you should probably know about. Acomi and Turk182 asks: What if someone made a low budget knockoff version of Reanimator (1985) - before the movie came out -, kept all the gore, and cut out all the good story elements? Then you'd have this charming film from New Zealand, starring the great Michael Hurst, Death Warmed Up (1984). For people who want their death hot enough to eat, but not so hot that it burns their mouth. After being hypnotized into killing his parents and spending years locked in a cuckoo clock, Michael Tucker (played by Michael Hurst, who later played Iolaus in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys TV series), is released and seeks revenge. Little does he know, that all these years later, the mad doctor that set him up has been experimenting with bringing the dead back to life and turning them into deformed monsters that with an explosively short lifespan. Now, trapped inside the madman's Patrick Nagel and Robert Palmer music video-esque hospital, Michael (played by Michael) and his friends must escape the deformed living dead. But, revenge, first! Join Acomi and Turk as they marvel at the beautiful scenery, the rich culture, the lack of exploded goats, and the utterly confusing plot of a movie that has no right to be as oddly entertaining as it is. Set your microwave to half power and the timer to 2 minutes, and Let's Watch! Death Warmed Up (1984)! Acomi and Turk182, along the occasional special guest, provide running commentary of awfulsome movie and TV shows. The hosts select movies that either one, or both, have never seen. All jokes and comments are improvised. NO PREPARED JOKES OR COMMENTS! During recording, the movies are watched at a low volume and with the subtitles on. Viewers may want to turn subtitles on as well to enhance the viewing experience. So, cue up the audio, ready the movie, and hit play when we say so. Note: This video is the commentary recorded by Acomi and Turk182, and selected screenshots. It is NOT a viewable copy of the film. Hercules takes center stage in book nine, but we spend most of our time discussing the story of Byblis, who pines for her brother Caunas. Byblis has a long monologue where she weighs the pros and cons of confessing her feelings to her brother, eventually deciding to write them out on a tablet, which Caunas then reads and hurls angrily aside. Byblis, sick with the rejection, is eventually transformed into a fountain. We consider the difference between writing and speaking as means of communication, and the role of writing in the Metamorphoses. Could Byblis have confessed if her only choice had been to speak? Would things have gone better or worse for her (whatever those terms mean here)? We also consider the meaning of the reverse aging of Iolaus, a miracle enacted by the recently deified Hercules. Why does the transformation of a man back into a child upset all the other gods? Jove says that Fate allowed Hercules to rejuvenate Iolus, and that Fate ultimately rules all the gods, himself included. What is the meaning of Fate here? Does it represent some higher natural order? Narrative tradition? The hand of the poet? Or the final, intractable victory of time and decay over all things?
We did it! Hercules Episode 111 - Full Circle - Hera's back from the pit, Zeus is a bad dad, Ares tries to overthrow the Gods, Herc and Iolaus on one last legendary journey. The series ends! The final season of Hercules will be dark and mature. But certainly not this week with Hercules Ep 105 - Love, Amazon Style. We are delighted to welcome Michael Hurst to the show for a wide-ranging discussion of his illustrious career. Michael is best remembered for playing Iolaus on Hercules: The Legendary Journey's & Xena: Warrior Princess, and for his directorial work on shows like Spartacus and Ash vs. Evil Dead. Ian & Michael talk at length about the influence that Hercules has had on the fantasy genre, opening the door for dozens of shows that followed. Michael recently appeared in the New Zealand production Dead, a hilarious and tender buddy cop comedy. Dead premieres on virtual cinemas on September 25th, with a VOD release on October 6th. Full of LGBTQ themes and making great use of the beautiful New Zealand landscape, Dead is a perfect choice for pandemic viewing. Theres a lot to process in this episode — Salmoneus has a panic attack and has to process whether he's a coward, Xena and Iolaus have to process their previous toxic gaslit relationship, and we have to process a very regrettable digital monster. But Herc is only processing his boner.

This week, Xena is still pretty evil, but at least she's not into killing women and children. Trouble is, her men are totally into it, and this becomes a problem. Xena dons her goin' out armor to strike fear and boners into the heart of her enemies, and Hercules totally falls for her puppy dog eyes. But what will Iolaus think‽
Everyone except the showrunners decide they need to let old Iolaus go in Hercules Episode 95 - Just Passing Through - The panel starts off questioning why everything feels seasons oneish until it dawns on them that Hercules is telling the viewer how every episode of Hercules plays in his mind and suddenly it becomes a piece of brilliance. Spiders abound in Hercules: Episode 63 - Web of Desire. Herc and Iolaus go on a super gross avenger where one man basically reenacts Alien 2 except for any of the heroic parts. Also the limerick quotient for this episode is high. Mark, Meg, and Lucas talk about raising children to entertain themselves and each other Also, Brian makes a grave error when choosing how many comic books to subscribe to. Mount Olympus is an episode by episode review of the smash 90s television programs "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" and its spinoff "Xena: Warrior Princess," which still enjoy unparalleled cultural relevance today! Brian is missing in action, perhaps losing his memory and joining crime like Iolaus does in Hercules Episode 61: Hero's Heart. Iolaus has a real bad run of luck and eventually forgets everything, which apparently shows us that he is one friendship away from a really good organized crime career. Also Brian isn't around to stop Mark from getting extra philosophical about the internet and the people therein, and frankly this here ball we're all sharing called Earth. THE EXBATS "Hercules" E Is For Exbats Burger Records (2019) http://burgerrecords.11spot.com/the-exbats-e-is-for-exbats.html The Exbats specialize in a Saturday morning cartoon sound drenched in pop culture references, which carry over to titles, lyrics, sleeve art, and video promos. Their debut album, A Guide to the Health Issues Affecting Rescue Hens, was named after a book they discovered from Googling “Exbats,” while the title of their sophomore release, I Got the Hots for Charlie Watts, references the ancient drummer of the Rolling Stones. The latter effort, released in January, has already yielded Spotify party faves like “Kill Yr Boyfriend,” named after a Grant Morrison comic book, and “Mr. Bucky,” a perverted ode to adolescent sex comedies. Young drummer-singer Inez McLain, not yet old enough to drink in most bars that book them, was supposedly christened by her Monkees-fan mom after a nickname for Mike Nesmith (a Monkees album is briefly seen in their video for “Iolaus,” paying tribute to the Kevin Sorbo TV series). Her dad, singer-guitarist Ken Mclain, clearly shares her love of cultural kitsch, and it helps that he seems to have no problem standing next to his daughter onstage as she screams into the mic “I wanna fuck Mr. Bucky, and you do too, don’t lie it, wouldn’t be yucky at all.” - San Diego Reader

Iolaus picks up a reporter in the woods and decides to do an episode without Hercules and with Salmoneus in Hercules Episode 53 - The Lost City The panel gives the episode a collective 'but why did we do this?' as the episode kind of just exists being there. They also ask where is reporter Katrina, and oh apparently the lost city is a sex and drug cult, so they have that going for them. Also, do you have a moment to spare for a little Kirby praise? No body is anyone they aren't supposed to be in Hercules: Episode 46 - A Star to Guide Them. I mean, unless you count Iolaus and two randos replacing the wisemen who go visit baby Jesus. But really this episode is more about the journey than the destination. It asks the hard questions like 'have we put enough babies in danger this season? and, Polonius, I bet if we use a name from Hamlet they won't realize we're doing MacBeth, right? Also Brian plants trees, Mark sees creatures, and Meg and Lucas explain the elephant in the room.

The two episodes featured on this week’s XENA: WARRIOR PODCAST share a relationship status of “it’s complicated.” First, the Titanic ménage à trois of 1x07, “The Titans” (ew, get a room, guys, if only you could find one large enough!). Then there’s the love rhombus of 1x08, “Prometheus,” where Hercules and Iolaus come to town looking to pair off with Xena and Gabrielle, only to end up pairing off with each other instead (phew!). Listen in as we discuss Gabrielle the cruel, if adorable, little goddess, the Platonic origin of love, and the Real Oracles of New Jersey.
