The quest for the Edmonton Oilers ninth win in a row tonight when they go head-to-head with the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Oilers and Bolts have faced each other once this season. That time around, Tampa Bay came away with two points after beating the Oilers 6-4 despite being down 2-0 in the first period. Derek Ryan had a pair of goals that day, and James Hamblin scored his first in the NHL. Evan Bouchard also helped out with the scoring. Edmonton will look for a much better outcome tonight against an inconsistent Tampa Bay lineup. In their last handful of games, the Lightning have a 3-2-0 record; however, their most recent result was a loss. That defeat came on Tuesday night versus the Vancouver Canucks when they fell 4-1. The lone goal came from Brayden Point in the first period. Also on the show, today's Sherwood Ford GIANT question is, how many points will the Oilers finish with this season? After 26 games, the Oilers have 27 points and a record of 13-12-1. To help get you prepared for the action down at Rogers Place, today will be a Sherwood Ford GIANT Pre-Game show edition of Oilersnation Everyday. Tyler Yaremchuk and Liam Horrobin will be around as usual, as well as Jay Downton. If you want to contribute something to the conversation, head to the Oilersnation YouTube channel during the show. Once you're there, leave your questions, comments and concerns in the Finning/CAT YouTube live chat. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The Edmonton Oilers' four-game road trip continues tonight versus the Florida Panthers. Unfortunately, the beginning of the road trip did not go as planned, as the Oilers fell 6-4 to the Tampa Bay Lightning after holding the lead going into the third period. The depth scoring showed up for Edmonton, with goals coming from Derek Ryan (twice), James Hamblin and Evan Bouchard. However, neither Connor McDavid nor Leon Draisaitl could find the back of the net, which ultimately proved to be the difference. Tonight, they will look to get back on the straight and narrow against a Panthers team with a 7-2-1 record in their last ten games. Calvin Pickard gets the nod between the pipes over Stuart Skinner, who has won three of his previous four games. To set you up for tonight's game, Tyler Yaremchuk will host a Sherwood Ford GIANT Pre Game Show edition of Oilersnation Everyday and will be joined by Liam Horrobin and Jay Downton. The three will discuss what happened on Saturday and what to expect from the Panthers tonight. Additionally, Frank Seravalli from Daily Faceoff will appear on the show. Frank will fill us in on what is happening for the Oilers in the trade market. Rumours started to swirl over the week that Edmonton have expressed heavy interest in Montreal Canadiens goaltender Cayden Primeau, Jake Allen and Samuel Montembeault. Frank will give us insight into how close that deal is. If you want to add something to the conversation, head over to the Oilersnation YouTube during the live show and leave your comments in the Finning/CAT live chat. Hosted on Acast. The Kris Knoblauch era starts with a bang as the Edmonton Oilers defeat the New York Islanders 4-1. The Oilers got big contributions from their top guns, with Leon Draisaitl leading the charge with a goal and three assists. Additionally, Connor McDavid ended his goalless drought with his third of the year. Zach Hyman and Evander Kane each grabbed a goal in the win, too. The start was less than ideal for Edmonton, who allowed the Islanders to score 40 seconds into the first period. From then on, Stuart Skinner was able to settle into his crease, stopping the next 31 shots. Skinner has now had back-to-back games of allowing one goal and has a save percentage of over 0.940. One unfortunate incident that happened last night was Dylan Holloway's injury. Holloway didn't return to the game following the crash into the boards, and his status for future games is still questionable. Who should be stepping into his role on the third line in his absence? Tyler Yaremchuk and Liam Horrobin will dig into everything that happened last night down at Rogers Place. Even with the two points in the bag, there was still plenty to talk about as the Oilers looked to get back on a straighter path under their new head coach. Joining Tyler and Liam on the show is Bruce Curlock. With Bruce, the three of them will discuss what a Knoblauch team could look like in the coming weeks. They will also talk about the play of Raphael Lavoie and James Hamblin and who could come up to replace Holloway. When is clean too clean? And what science connects how we treat our skin with common skin conditions? While the virtues of cleanliness may seem to flow from modern scientific findings about germs, there are deep cultural and economic factors that have shaped the evolution of hygiene.James Hamblin is a physician who specializes in public health and preventative medicine. He is also a journalist, author, and lecturer at Yale University. His latest book is titled Clean: The New Science of Skin, which was named an editor's choice by The New York Times Book Review, and Vanity Fair named it among the best books of 2020. James and Greg discuss James's book and the counterintuitive way we sometimes think of clean and healthy skin. They touch on the history of marketing by the soap and beauty industry and the relationship between status and cleanliness. James discusses new insights into the skin biome, how doctors blur the lines between the medical and the cosmetic, and unlocks some of the mysteries around various small body parts.Episode Quotes:How marketing manipulated us to things we don't really need11:26: You have to create a need in someone. You have to make them believe that they are lacking something, that they previously were fine. The term "body odor" didn't exist before people trying to sell deodorant. People didn't worry about fine lines before certain beauty soaps started saying they could prevent them—a soap for preventing wrinkles. They just were using every possible marketing strategy, and that's what's really unfortunate about it. It didn't have to go that way.On the concept of cleanliness03:54: The concept of cleanliness goes back far, far beyond germ theory, and it's always been a stand-in for purity, whether it's religious purity, ethnic purity, or sexual purity, and these are arbitrary concepts, but it's been used as this sort of idea of what is right and wrong, essentially. The information constraints faced by doctors26:56: All kinds of different psychological stressors require constant work, help, and support. It's not that doctors don't know. It's just that we don't have a healthcare system that makes those things part of the toolkit.Show Links:Recommended Resources:James's Newsletter: The BodySocial Distance PodcastGuest Profile:Professional Profile at Yale UniversityJames Hamblin on LinkedInJames Hamblin's WebsiteJames Hamblin on TwitterJames Hamblin on InstagramJames Hamblin on TEDxYaleHis Work:Stories on the AtlanticClean: The New Science of Skin If Our Bodies Could Talk

A brand new week is underway and that means the boys from the Real Life Podcast are back with a brand new episode to help you ease back into work life. On today's show, the guys looked at Saturday's comeback win over the Rangers, James Hamblin's debut, and a whole lot more.To kick off today's podcast, the crew got started with a look at Saturday's huge comeback win over the Rangers and how it was the kind of win that could potentially turn the season around. Is that too much to expect from one win? Did the boys' opinion change after seeing the laundry list of injuries the team is dealing with right now? Changing gears, the conversation turned to coffee consumption and beer advent calendars, and how the Christmas season is the worst time of year if you're planning to cut down on your vices. Somehow talking about coffee and beers led to the guys complaining about speeding tickets and road conditions around the city. Are any of the guys city planners? No, of course not, but that didn't matter whatsoever. To wrap up the Monday episode of Real Life, the guys looked at the World Cup and how it was cool to see Canada get their first ever goal at the tournament despite losing to Croatia. As you'll hear, however, Chalmers was anything but impressed and thinks we're going too far in celebrating the silver linings. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Happy hockey season everyone! It's spooky season and the Oilers essentially got their final roster submitted and made a little trade ahead of time, so this one is a doozy. Before the turkey and gravy of the episode, the boys had a little housekeeping to look after including: - Myles' Insidious experience- An early look at the lines including James Hamblin pushing for a spot - Steve Staios joining the Oilers' staff - The Samorukov/Kostin trade - Some minor NHL newsThen diving into a Western Conference preview including each teams, roster transactions, breakout players, standings predictions and so much more! We have finally made it to the last game of the preseason schedule! Tonight, the Edmonton Oilers host the Seattle Kraken at Rogers Place with many players still having much to play for. A surprising talent that is still around is James Hamblin. Hamblin is a hometown kid the Oilers signed as an undrafted free agent out of the WHL a few years ago. Now, he's battling for a spot on the NHL roster with chance to prove everyone wrong again. One player that isn't with the Oilers anymore is Jake Virtanen. Last night, Virtanen was released from his professional tryout contract after playing five preseason games with them. We'll have Baggedmilk on the show today to talk about that decision and also on how much he loves preseason hockey. Also on today's show, Tyler will talk about some possible trade targets for the Oilers later on in the season and Liam gives out some Betway picks for tonight's game. Hosted on Acast. It's October 14th. This day in 1976, President Ford invited cameras into the White House as he got his vaccination for the influenza strain that was commonly referred to as “swine flu.” It was part of a big effort from the White House to avoid a health disaster — a pandemic that never actually came to pass.
This week we're learning how to better care for our skin with help from physician and Atlantic staff writer James Hamblin. We break down popular misconceptions, trends, and questions surrounding skincare right now to bring the conversation around skincare back to the basics. Lynn Gallagher is a Holistic Facialist based out of Philadelphia. Her approach to beauty is to create a brave, heart-centered space for restoration and healing as well as to disrupt the standards in the beauty industry. As a facialist, her focus is fostering a person-first over a product-first mindset. With her background in various alternative healing modalities, a session with her feels stimulating, grounding, uplifting, and restoring simultaneously. She prioritizes small/female-owned, transparent, raw/whole, inclusive, accessible, and sustainable skincare. We're almost three weeks past Election Day. Yet, President Trump and his evolving legal team continue to spew conspiracy theories intended to delegitimize the voting process, sow confusion, and delay the transition of power to incoming President-elect Joe Biden. Meanwhile, most Senate Republicans remain silent and Trump's most fervent supporters ignore our post-election reality in favor of conspiracy theories that run unchecked on platforms like Parler. James Hamblin, MD, is a writer and senior editor at The Atlantic magazine. His writing and videos have been featured in The New York Times, Politico, NPR, BBC, The Guardian, Elle, Mother Jones, and New York, among others. Time named him among the 140 people to follow on Twitter, Greatist named him among the most influential people in health media, and BuzzFeed called him "the most delightful MD ever." I reached out to him because I'd read his book, If Our Bodies Could Talk, and enjoyed it a ton, much more than I thought I was going to! I was drawn in by his writing, and that he's not only an intelligent guy, but has a good sense of humility and insight both ... a potent mix. We talk gluten, statins, multivitamins and eggs. Also research and implicit biases, promises and expectations and their relation to health outcomes, knowing what we don't know, and the bodymind as one integrated whole. Here's our conversation.
