I'm Kay Daigle. Welcome to the Beyond Ordinary Women Podcast as well as video. My special guest today is Julie Pierce. Welcome, Julie. Julie >> Thanks for having me, Kay. Kay >> Oh, we're so happy that you're here today and that we're having this conversation. We're going to be talking about the art of giving and receiving feedback, and that goes along with your role. You're an executive coach. You develop leaders one-on-one through coaching. You consult with teams; you communicate with groups; you do all that kind of leadership communication stuff. You can read more about Julie on her bio on our website at beyondordinarywomen.org. And Julie, I have your website as JuliePierceLeadership.com. Is that it? Julie >> Yes, that's me. Kay >> And Pierce is P I E R C E, right? Julie >> Yes. Kay >> Is there more than one way to spell Pierce? Julie >> There are a lot of different ways, but the best way is pie. Kay >> That's good. Julie >> About right. I mean, that's one of my favorites, so that's good. Kay >> Well, today we are talking about feedback. And as Julie wrote in her notes to me, “Is feedback the other F word?” And why do you say that? Because we hate feedback? Because it's tough? Why do you feel that way about it? Julie >> You know, I say it that way, and obviously I'm joking! And yet there's a little bit of truth behind every joke, right? Because we all are so scared of getting any kind of feedback because feedback has become this dirty word. Where we immediately assume it's going to be this deep cutting criticism that is just going to cut to our core instead of this life-giving catalyst for our growth. And so if we can shift our mindset around it, and if we can get some skills about how to give and receive feedback, it really can be one of the key things that just unlocks our potential and really what God has for us and for those we lead. So it's really critical, and yet we just have that often had such terrible experiences, Quite honestly, like each one of us probably has a horror story to tell about someone who offered to give us some feedback, and really they just wanted to beat us up a little bit. And so that's often we have just a little bit of trauma in our background from feedback. And so we just say, “Oh, never mind, I'm not going to touch that with a ten foot pole.” So I think if we can get the skills and if we can shift our mindset about how we think about it, it really can unlock some amazing growth process. Kay >> Right. Well, you know, speaking of people having that kind of reaction, I remember that years ago I handed out to some Bible study leaders like a self-evaluation and I got feedback from one of my friends who said so-and-so was really complaining about it because she said, “This is just like a job evaluation.

Simple things consistently done over time shape a culture. Consistent appreciation of your team over time produces a culture where team members feel valued and know that their contributions are making a difference. Lack of appreciation of your team over time produces a culture where team members doubt or question their value and are unsure of their purpose within the organization. This week, Jenni is joined by three members of the 4Sight team: Project Manager and Culture Conference coordinator, Maddie Minish; coach and Women in Leadership facilitator, Julie Pierce, and Executive Director and executive coach, Genea Browne for a conversation about the value of meaningful employee appreciation. They discuss what it looks like, how to do it well, and how it impacts culture. You'll also hear some simple ways to get started if this is a leadership growth area for you: Start with a simple textAcknowledge their family & include them (i.e. a giftcard to a restaurant they can all enjoy)Start & end your day with 3 thank-you notes - make appreciation part of your routineEncourage staff-to-staff appreciation to celebrate each otherKeep it simple and consistentConnect with JenniWe are grateful and appreciative of you and your leadership. So Much More: Creating Space for God (Lectio Divina and Scripture Meditation)
It's that time of year. The time we naturally think through and process the year we just lived and start to wonder about the new one. Grab your journal, your favorite cozy drink and a quiet spot – then pop in your earbuds and let's get to prayerful work processing with the Lord. It will be time well spent. If you haven't listened to the conversation with Cheri Hudspith, Spiritual Director, and Julie Pierce, Leadership Coach to help you prepare for this reflection you can find it here:http://www.jodieniznik.com/somuchmorepodcastHere's the flow of conversation, questions and Scriptures for your reference:Part 1: Looking backPrompt 1: Name at least three things you can rejoice over and praise God for from the last year.Prompt 2: What comes to mind from the last year that left you feeling weary and burdened? Prompt 3: What comes to mind from the last year that felt like it was soul filling – gave you energy and peace?Prompt 4: As you review these lists, ask the Lord: Is there any place where I feel overwhelmed, afraid or disappointed? Prompt 5: Is there anything you, Lord, want me to let go of or think differently about?Part 2: Looking forwardPrompt 1: Name some of the seasons you think your year will hold.Prompt 2: Consider the next season that's coming - what good work do you sense the Lord may be inviting you into for that season in your relationship with him, Your relationship with others, and in relationship with the world around you?Prompt 3: Are there any barriers to moving forward or anything you sense the Lord is inviting you to do differently in 2023?The exact verses read in this podcast are printed here for your use:Philippians 4:4-6Rejoice in the Lord always. Matthew 11:28-3028 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”Ephesians 2:10For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.Isaiah 40:31but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. It's been an amazing year and we wanted to spend the last podcast talking about all God has done and spoken through this podcast in 2022. As we wrap up season 4 of the podcast, we wanted to reminisce on a few key things we've said this year (or that guests have said). Then we broke down the word FIGHT and here are the words we highlighted: F is for FAITH I is for INSPIRE G is for GIVE H is for HUGS T is for TEACH After we unpacked the word FIGHT, we brought in fight experts. People who are fighting for family and people we can learn from. Here are a few highlights from these episodes: In Episode 158, Julie Pierce joined us to talk about how LEADERSHIP IS WORTH THE FIGHT. “Every situation is a leadership situation. Every life lesson is a leadership lesson.” - Julie Pierce Ep. 161: Commit to Fight for Family (Don and Suz) We talk about vision, culture, and how to change your family from the inside out "I looked at the fight for family and I decided... I am not going to lose this fight." - Don Ep. 162: Fight for Energy The truth is, the kids do have more energy! "The reason kids have so much more energy is because they are carefree and have the freedom to play all day!" - Suz The heart of the FIGHT series culminated with Colleen Stickl joining us for Episode 163: Step into the Spiritual Fight. In a lot of ways, this is the main theme we hoped parents gained from this series. "Ephesians 6:12 says, Our fight is not against flesh in blood (or toddlers and teenagers), it is against the rulers, the authorities, the powers of this dark world... The biggest battle is not what we can see with our eyes but against satan and his forces." - Colleen As parents, we see the battle for our kid's hearts. The more we are equipped to fight the less the enemy can do! Our kids are warriors and their salvation is at stake. If they have salvation, then he goes after their hearts. If their hearts are secure, he goes after their everyday peace and joy. We are called to fight for our kids and help them fight against darkness! Ep. 164: Tim Hawkins – Being a Funny Family Talking about authenticity and how to be a joyful culture but not at the expense of identity and encouragement. Tim talks about how joking was a way to bond but sometimes pushed the boundaries of kindness... he has learned as a father how powerful his words are and how to use them for building up, not tearing down. Ep.165: Julie Parido - Parents who Fight for Truth She shared her book “Draw the Scriptures” and how to fight to keep the Word of God in our families. Ep. 166: Christy Gandy – Fight for Generosity She shared her company “Love Well Co.” and talked about how she builds her family's culture by prioritizing generosity over everything else. Ep. 167: Anne Evans – Fighting for Marriage Anne shared her ministry, Real Life Ministries and how her marriage was marked by unity and building their marriage daily. “What starts with you and God will overflow into your family and marriage relationship.” - Anne The overall message of the FIGHT series is, IT'S WORTH IT! And the way we fight is often different than we think... Fight for family takes a different role when we do it with God and FIGHT His way. Summer Series: Who Knows Your Kids Best We interviewed each of our kids this summer and our hope was that as you got to know them, it would help you know your kids better! We heard so many people LOVE the series and gain insight into themselves and their unique children. It was a whole summer learning about our kid's world and how they saw their upbringing. Fall Series: Parent to God There were so many guests who came on to share their perspective of parenting, marriage, and more. We unpack how your relationship with God directly affects all the other relationships in your life. #179: Pursuing God is Essential to Parenting #180: Fatherhood, Football, and a Family Crisis (Feat. Chad Hennings) #181: Pursuing God is a Delight #182: A Father's Pursuit of God (Feat. Dan Luigs) #183: Teach Your Child to Hear God! #184: Pursue God + Pursue Unity in Marriage (feat. Kim Kimberling) #185: Q&A About Parenting + Hearing God #186: Need a Fatherhood Refresh? (Feat. Larry Hagner) #187: Talk to Yourself the Way God Talks to You (Feat. John Stange) #188: Wrapping Up the Pursue God Series Final 4 episodes of the season: Ep. 189-190: AVOID the HOILIDAZE – real talk about the holidays and how we can have vision, declarations, and hope for the season. Great to listen to if you haven't yet and there is a challenge at the end of the series, we think every family should do this week! Last two episodes of the year – both inspiring and great to listen to before the year ends! #191: Coaching Your Inner Self (Feat. Jill Hawkins) #192: Building a Crazy Cool Family (Feat. Chris Grainger) It's been a wild year full of God's voice, His wisdom through relationship experts, and practical next steps for families just like yours. Is everyone a kingdom leader? That's the question we unpack today. Julie Pierce joins us to answer our questions about leadership. Leadership is next level when it becomes KINGDOM leadership! We take the conversation into real-life situations. “Every situation is a leadership situation. Every life lesson is a leadership lesson.” - Julie Pierce We talk about: The identity of a Kingdom leader Training up Kingdom leaders (no matter what age) Leading when you aren't in charge (by your example) Help kids be confident in every situation Julie has 2 sons and she is passionate about raising them up to be leaders. Her desire is for them to walk into a room and be able to step up and lead if needed. Parents, we are called to teach our kids to walk out in their Kingdom identity, this included being a Kingdom leader! Here are other questions we answer: What is the difference between a worldly leader and kingdom leader? What have you learned about raising kingdom leaders over the years? What if your kid doesn't believe they are a leader/ have no confidence/would rather just follow others? How do we pick up leadership skills? How do we train our kids to do the same How to lead by going first. What does this look like in everyday life? We love the “along the way” leadership learning. We get to create places for our kids to become leaders through serving, teaching them skills, and calling out the leadership identity God placed inside them. “What we celebrate, we replicate.” - Julie Pierce The conservation landed on this idea of celebrating our kids when they lead and helping them know how to keep leading in future situations. Celebration is a leadership skill and as parents, when we celebrate our kids take notice! Listen to this week's podcast to learn how to speak Kingdom leader-identity over your kids. Julie speaks over her kids, “Lead well and shine your light.” It's a simple phrase they consistently speak over their boys. They are seeing the fruit in their kids and you can too! Cobra Kai has given us the best of felony-producing teenage (and adult) fights - that bear some credulity to be sure - and boasts a stunt double list that is more plentiful than Lt. A sequel so obscure that unless you watched it every week on the Disney Channel in the early 00s like Angel, you wouldn't even know it existed. Pat Morita's swan song in the Karate Kid franchise has him traveling to Boston, to visit the wife of his commander General from the 442nd. While there he is introduced to her granddaughter Julie Pierce (played by a very young Hillary Swank). Julie is having a hard time dealing with the grief of losing her parents, and is starting to find herself in trouble at school. Mr. Miyagi takes her as his new ward to whom he teaches Karate to in hopes that it will both teach her discipline, and help keep her out of trouble with her school's Jr. ROTC group, the Alpha Elites.

Connecting with animals. Connecting with trees. Connecting through social media. How do we keep from becoming overwhelmed by being so connected? [22:44] The first place of being able to manage that interconnection is within yourself, you to you. [25:51] Julie went to Egypt with her parents when she was nine. Isis was on the ceiling inside a pyramid. BOOM! Julie experienced a full body, deep cellular, vibratory connection. Not knowing what this was, she did not tell anybody what was happening to her. [33:09] It's a wonderful classroom, being a Mom. As a mother, my challenge is to NOT merge on my son, but to allow him to individuate. My exercise with him on that is the further individuation of myself. [38:38] This is where faith comes in: I show up. I make my best effort with my intention. And I am held in the container of the natural unfolding. [42:20] How our truth evolves and how we maintain our truth. [47:07] It takes courage to be with the stuff that feels horrible. Courage = it's not going to feel good. It's not better because you are brave. It's still horrible. The courage is just the part of you that you draw on to stay present. [53:53] Julie does love frequency readings. We crave love as an experience. Sometimes we can't know what to do next if we aren't clear on where we truly are right now. What is the theme of your present moment, which is a consequence of past choices, and where are you going? Good material to feel clear about your next step, and the choices that will lead to it. [55:05] IRL Pilgrimages: Take the leap. Step into your power. Speak your truth. Help awaken the world. We're building businesses, we're healing our lives on almost unbelievable levels - except it's all true because Magic is Real. [1:03:06] Links and resources: Where are you right now on the spectrum of Love Energy? Knowing this offers perspective and helps you understand how your experience fluctuates on the spectrum. Sometimes getting to parenthood isn't as easy breezy as couples are led to believe and women can't help but wonder what's up with their fertility. After all the years spent telling their body not to get pregnant, now they want a baby. Dr. Terri talks to Julie Pierce, author, speaker, certified relationship coach, and mother about how women can stop thinking about how badly they want a baby and just get pregnant. In her book "I Still Want to be a Mom," she shares what she's learned through years of working with women struggling their way to motherhood-and she was one of them. With her help, women can stop their struggle and return to that beautiful place of confidence and joy they started this journey with and just get pregnant.

Find out how UK organisations are planning to use distributed ledger technology, and why it is important for CIOs to avoid falling into the hype trap where blockchain is a solution looking for a problem.
It took several decades, but little Ralph Macchio finally grew up! Too physically mature to continue playing a child in The Karate Kid films, the franchise had to revamp itself with Hilary Swank (as character Julie Pierce) in the titular role. After the death of her parents, Julie moves into her grandmother's home, only to be abandoned shortly thereafter. Mr. Miyagi takes it upon himself to raise the orphan child- much like he raised Daniel LaRusso. Also, because Julie's school is full of dangerous rapists, Miyagi reluctantly agrees to teach her some karate-based self-defense techniques.TortureVision Rating: ABORTIONGood features were better than expected. Bad features were awful, yet still enjoyable. Abortions were utter torment to sit through.Right-Click "Save As" to download .MP3!
Josh Stieber was in middle school on 9/11/2001. Fear and terror and panic were contagious. Josh joined the Army and did a tour in Iraq. Reflecting on his expericences there, Josh came to believe that love can be just as contagious and just as powerful a force as fear was, and set off on foot and bicycle across the country. Josh and a companion stopped on the side of the road outside of Sedalia, Missouri, and talked on the phone to Tell Somebody. Earlier the same day, Senators Kit Bond, John McCain and Mitch McConnell hid out in Childrens Mercy Hospital in Kansas City for a supposed healthcare town hall with a hand-picked audience of partisan supporters. Tell Somebody heard from the protestors across the street. And finally, we go to the archives to hear from Julie Pierce, featured in the film Sicko, whose husband died after Cigna insurance denied treatment for him, and look back to when whistleblower Wendell Potter was still working for Cigna.
