This week on Black on Black Cinema, the crew returns to introduce the next film, (ON NETFLIX) "Really Love." Set in contemporary Washington D.C., a rising black painter strives to break into the competitive art world, while balancing a bittersweet romance he never expected. The film stars Kofi Siriboe and Yootha Wong-Loi-Sing. The random topic of the week is about a white woman (Shiloh Hendrix) who was caught on camera calling an autistic 5 year old Black boy the N-word. She then decided to instead of apologize, she'd rather lean into her racism and began raising over $700,000 on a Christian crowd funding website.NOTE: The funds have been since frozen by the bank involved post our recording
For this episode, we dive deep into the world of Ethical Non-Monogamy (ENM) with Co-Host Nikki Shaw. ENM is a relationship style where individuals engage in multiple romantic or sexual relationships with the full consent and awareness of everyone involved. It's based on honesty, communication, and mutual respect, standing in stark contrast to cheating, which involves deception. We'll explore what makes ENM distinct, including its various forms such as open relationships and polyamory, and discuss why it's becoming increasingly mainstream. In this episode, we'll tackle tough questions: Is monogamy outdated, or is ENM just another fleeting dating trend? How does social media and celebrity influence—like that of Kofi Siriboe—shape the conversation around non-monogamy? Can ENM work for everyone, or are there inherent challenges that prevent it from being a universal solution? From jealousy and time management to emotional connections, we'll examine the real obstacles people face in ENM relationships. We'll also break down the stigma surrounding ENM, especially the misconception that it's just an excuse for cheating. How can we change this perception, and what role do cultural and community perspectives play in how non-monogamous relationships are viewed? Join us for an insightful discussion about the evolving nature of relationships and how more people are exploring the boundaries of love and commitment in a way that's authentic, consensual, and based on mutual respect.
This week on The She Said It First Podcast, Jerrilyn Lake aka Indeskribeabull and Lynee’ Monae discusses a variety of topics. During What Irritated Me This Week, Lynee’ speaks about the complexities of being the strong friend, the stress of financial responsibilities, and the importance of collective action within the Black community. Jerrilyn and Lynee’ then discuss actor Kofi Siriboe and his thoughts about relationships. Siriboe believes in ethical non-monogamy and Lynee’ and Jerrilyn talk about how they could never settle for that in their relationship. The conversation emphasizes the need for empowerment, self-control, and the impact of societal pressures on personal well-being. Jerrilyn and Lynee’ then discuss NBA star Anthony Edwards and his baby mama drama with his ex-girlfriend, Ayesha Howard. Howard is pregnant with Edwards baby, but he does not want the child, and she released the text messages to prove he does not want this child. Lynee and Jerrilyn also spoke about the Delta Airline plane crash in Toronto and who is to blame for it. Also, employers are tired of dealing with Gen Z workers and they are firing them and not looking to hire more Gen Z employees. With it being Black History Month, Jerrilyn and Lynee gave a Black History Moment. They spoke about the ‘father of Black History” Dr. Carter G. Woodson. Black folks are Spades' racists; this is not how sunscreen works; Kofi Siriboe is too fine so of course his characters are problematic; we reminisce on when we were spontaneous youths and Atlanta never closed (club Kaya and 112); Issa should've “8 Mile'd” Crenshawn; and we believe Issa is gonna ruin poor, fragile Nathan.
