Today's guest makes me feel free. I can't help that one and you'll see why in a second. My guest is Malcolm Bruce. In addition to being the son of legendary bassist Jack Bruce, he is, himself, quite a gifted and accomplished musician. In this episode we figure out where we're going wrong, discuss growing up as Jack Bruce's kid, and when he began writing, music and other things. This was so much fun because it was the epitome of a casual chat. We talk about the generational Bruce/Baker energy, get a brief history of Cream, and repeatedly bring up spandex for some reason. Malcolm has recently released an album titled Heavenly Cream and it's a very different type of Cream tribute. It's an acoustic album that really makes you focus on the brilliant songwriting more than the extended jamming of the band. And in addition to Malcolm, the album also features guests like Deborah Bonham, Peter Bullick, Maggie Bell, Joe Bonamassa, Bernie Marsden, Paul Rodgers, and a lot more. Malcolm also reveals some other projects that might possibly see the light of day in 2024. So check out the album on Quarto Records, at malcombrucemusic.com, or wherever you get music these days. Quarto Valley Records proudly announces the new album “Heavenly Cream: An Acoustic Tribute to Cream.” The album takes us on a magical journey -- traveling the brief course of the iconic band's musical life -- back to the raw, stripped-down magic of the creativity of Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, Eric Clapton, and Pete Brown. Passionately produced and mixed by Rob Cass, the new album will be released via Quarto Valley Records on November 3rd on vinyl, CD and digitally on all platforms.  Malcolm Bruce, Jack's son, who, as a musician of note, was involved in the making of the album. Formed in 1966, CREAM quickly became known for their explosive impromptu style – high-volume blues jamming, extended solos and flashy instrumental showmanship.  The project honors CREAM's legacy with a 15-track tribute album and features Pete Brown and Ginger Baker plus an impressive roster of renowned musicians who knew, or were inspired by the iconic supergroup including Joe Bonamassa, Deborah Bonham, Malcolm Bruce, Peter Bullick, Nathan James, Bernie Marsden, Maggie Bell, Rob Cass, Clem Clempson, Paul Rodgers and Bobby Rush.  There were also invaluable musical contributions from Cheryl Alleyne, Winston Blissett, Moreno Buttinar, Abass Dodoo, John Donaldson, Pee Wee Ellis, Mo Foster, Neil Murray, Mo Nazam, Tony Remy, and Frank Tontoh.   The first single off the album, “Sunshine of Your Love,” was released on September 1 and features Ginger Baker on drums, Joe Bonamassa on vocals and guitar, Malcom Bruce on piano and the late Bernie Marsden on vocals and guitar, with Neil Murray on bass and Abass Dodoo on percussion.  This iconic song, co-written by Jack Bruce and Pete Brown was included on Cream's best-selling second album Disraeli Gears in November 1967 and became one of Cream's fan favorites.  “Heavenly Cream: An Acoustic Tribute to Cream” was recorded at Sensible Music and the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London. Years in the making, Quarto Valley Records' executive Mike Carden initially approached Pete Brown, his long-time colleague and friend, in 2017 about a different project and out of that meeting came the concept of doing a recording -- a retrospective of CREAM music -- which both Pete and Mike mutually agreed to. Pete had remained friends with Ginger Baker over the years and brought him on board. Following suit came Malcom Bruce (Jack's son), and the gathering of the incredible talent on the album began to fall into place.  On recording this album, Malcom Bruce said, “I feel very much that in my own small way I'm carrying on a tradition that's incredibly unique in the musical canon as it were.”  ALBUM TRACK LISTING  1. Pete tells us his period in life where he would spend time in Scotland, solo performences or duets, socialising and music making with Hamish Imlach, Danny Kyle, Tam Harvey and Josh McRae and even Billy Connolly! How these people would make funny lyrics out of a popular song, how Bill Mcintyre was made fun of in a rendition of McCartney's Mull of Kintyre. Very often a certain Maggie Bell would also attend these social gatherings in a popular pub where people were getting slowly under the influence of drink. Pete Gardner decided also to put his own funny lyrics to both Johnny Cash's 'St Quentin' & 'Ring of fire' all about the after effects of eating vindeloo curries after a gig! Pete Gardner was a regular visitor to Scotland driving his truck from Barnoldswick to collect tonnes of Denim to be delivered to places such as Leicester and London. Pete tells us of his longest ever stay in Austria due to being given the job of solo performing to a public in the Mozart platz in Salzburg, an Austrian emtrepeuner was responsible for organising the Public viewing and all pre and Post match ceromonies for the Euro football championships jointly staged by Austria and Switzerland in 2008. Pete played every night for 30 nights in a row to audiences of up to 2,000 people. Pete talks about his good friend and musician Cliff Stocker who had unexpectadly died after a routine surgery had gone wrong, Cliff was always on the prowl for good lyrics to songs, a strength that Pete gardner had in abundance. Cliff had told Pete he should record his songs as he felt they had great potential, up to that point Pete was'nt interested in the hassle of recording studios, but following the death of his friend Cliff, Pete decided to finish off many songs and song ideas he had and recorded them at home as videos now available on 'Pete gardners music page' on facebook. https://www.facebook.com/Peter-Gardner-Music-page-917768181625253/ https:// Pete talks about inspiration to write good lines,he'd even get up in the middle of the night to write something down rather than forget it in the morning. Pete talks about his regular trips to Austria to perform and his favorite base of Mittersill, how in recent years his ability to play guitar was hampered by his carpal tunnel syndrome affecting to hands and fingers. Pete wrote a song called 'Long time gone' about his friend Erich Pletzer who ran the Cafe and Konditorei in Mittersill. The market village of Mittersill with a population of 6,000 had been upgraded to a town in 2008, Pete Gardner wrote a song titled 'Mittersill Forever' available on Youtube https://youtu.be/oe9-AjxNeD4 which became a minor hit on the internet. Pete talks about his style of writing songs being greatly influenced by the American artists he had long admired. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bernie-aird/message

Pete tells us of the thriving Glasgow pub scene with musicians, artists and comedians including  where on his Scottish truck driving trips to collect tonnes of Denim at his brothers factory, he'd mixed and socialised with artists such as Hamish Himlach, Danny Kyle, Tom Harvey and Josh Mcrae, not to mention Billy Connolly and his Humblebums and the occasional visit of a certain Maggie Bell. It was in this company that Pete developed an interest in writing humourous lyric's not surprisingly! In Petes performence reportoir, he had written a fine rendition of Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire, this after a Vindeloo Curry night it appears.  Pete talks about his many visits to Austria to perform solo on guitar, vocals and Harmonica, his biggest contractual obligation was to perform daily for 30 days during the Euefa European Soccer tournament hosted by Austria and Switzerland in 2008. This saw Pete perform in the centre of the city of Salzburg in Mozart Platz freuquently to audiences of 2,000 spectators.  Pete's songwriting relied largely on his penchant for writing interesting and creative lyrics, this frequently came to the attention of his good friend and musician Cliff Stocker who would know when Pete returned from his annual stint in Austria, that he'd have a coffer full of lyrics and song ideas which might suit what Cliff had in mind. In this Episode we hear Pete perform three of his song's ' Long time Gone', 'Mittersill Forever' and 'Harry and Juliet'. Long time Gone was written for Mittersill's Erich Pletzer who traditional employed Pete to perform at his roadside Konditorei and Cafe after his short term stay in the Kramkenhaus. Harry and Juliet about his good friends and Bikers, finally Mittersill Forever about the market village becoming a fully fledged town some years ago.  --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bernie-aird/message

When Johannes appears, he presents her with a wedding gift: a cabinet that is a miniature replica of their home, to be furnished by an elusive Miniaturist, whose tiny creations mirror what is happening within the house in unexpected ways and seem to be predicting and unraveling the future with unsettling precision. As Nella begins to uncover its secrets and those of the Brandt household she realizes the escalating dangers that await them all. Does the Miniaturist hold their fate in her hands? And will she be the key to their salvation or the architect of their downfall? Series Premieres:Magnum P.I. (CBS)Thomas Magnum is a decorated former Navy SEAL who, upon returning home from Afghanistan, repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator. A charming rogue, an American hero and a die-hard Detroit Tigers fan, Magnum has Juliet Higgins and her Dobermans to keep him in line, as well as his trusted buddies and fellow POW survivors T.C. and Rick when he needs backup on a job. With keys to a vintage Ferrari in one hand, aviator sunglasses in the other, and an Old Düsseldorf longneck chilling in the fridge, Thomas Magnum is on the case.Manifest(NBC)When Montego Air Flight 828 landed safely after a turbulent but routine flight, the crew and passengers were relieved. But in the span of those few hours, the world had aged five years -- and after mourning their loss, their friends, families and colleagues had given up hope and moved on. Now, faced with the impossible, they're all given a second chance. But as their new realities become clear, a deeper mystery unfolds, and some of the returned passengers soon realize they may be meant for something greater than they ever thought possible.FBI (CBS)From Emmy Award winner Dick Wolf and the team behind the "Law & Order" franchise, "FBI" is a fast-paced drama about the inner workings of the New York office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. First-class agents -- including Maggie Bell and Omar Adom "OA" Zidan -- bring all of their talents, intellect and technical expertise to tenaciously investigate cases of tremendous magnitude, including terrorism, organized crime and counterintelligence, to keep New York and the country safe.New Amsterdam (NBC)Dr. Max Goodwin is brilliant, charming -- and the new medical director at America's oldest public hospital. While he's set on tearing down the bureaucracy to provide exceptional care, the doctors and staff are not so sure. They've heard this before, and no one else has delivered on those promises. Not taking no for an answer, Max disrupts the status quo and proves he will stop at nothing to breathe new life into this understaffed, underfunded and underappreciated hospital -- the only one in the world capable of treating Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers Island and the president of the United States all under one roof -- and return it to the glory that put it on the map. Inspired by Bellevue in New York City.Mr. Inbetween (FX)"Mr Inbetween" is a half-hour drama series inspired by the cult film "The Magician." It centers around Ray Shoesmith -- a father, ex-husband, boyfriend and best friend. All tough roles to juggle in the modern age, but it's even harder when you're a criminal for hire. Shoesmith is a man who has been hardened by the prison system and his experiences there. Now, he is learning how to deal with life in the real world -- even attending anger management classes -- away from the bars of prison, where actions always have consequences.Single Parents (ABC)This ensemble comedy follows some single parents as they lean on each other to help raise their 7-year-old kids and maintain some kind of personal lives outside of parenthood. When the parents in the group meet Will, a 30-something guy who's been so focused on raising his daughter that he's lost sight of who he is as a man, they see just how far down the rabbit hole of PTA, parenting and princesses he has gone. The friends decide to band together to get him out in the dating world and make him realize that being a great parent doesn't mean sacrificing everything about his own identity.A Million Little Things (ABC)It has been said that friendship isn't one big thing, it's a million little things. That is certainly true for a group of friends from Boston who bonded under unexpected circumstances. Some have achieved success, others are struggling in their careers and relationships, but all of them feel stuck in life. After one of them dies unexpectedly, it's just the wake-up call the others need to finally start living. Along the way, they discover that friends may be the one thing that can save them from themselves. The Cool Kids (FOX)"The Cool Kids" is a comedy about a rowdy, rag-tag group of friends living in a retirement community who are willing to break every rule to have fun, because, at their age, what do they really have to lose? Hank, a gruff, opinionated, 21st-century Archie Bunker who will go to any lengths to have a good time, is the leader of this motley crew. His loyal -- but less than helpful -- friends include Charlie, a bumbling storyteller who constantly goes off on tangents about some bizarre and barely believable episodes from his life; and Sid, a naysaying, pill-popping hypochondriac who shoots down every scheme but still gets roped in. Complicating matters is Margaret, a brash, confident woman who forces her way into their group and refuses to leave because she's not going to take crap from anyone -- especially not these three. But what unites them all is their shared belief that they're not done yet -- not by a long shot. Growing old with dignity is for chumps. Season Premieres:Young Sheldon (CBS)It's 1989 and 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper has skipped four grades to start high school along with his less-intellectual older brother. As he struggles to be understood by his family, classmates and neighbours, his mother arms him with the best tool she can come up with: reminding bullies his dad is the football coach and his brother is on the team. His twin sister doesn't share his exceptional mind, but she has a much clearer vision of what life has in store for the young genius. Jim Parsons, who plays the adult version of Sheldon on "The Big Bang Theory," narrates. The Good Doctor (ABC)Shaun Murphy, a young autistic surgeon who has savant syndrome, relocates from a quiet country life to join the surgical unit at the prestigious San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital -- a move strongly supported by his mentor, Dr. Aaron Glassman. Having survived a troubled childhood, Shaun is alone in the world and unable to personally connect with those around him, but he finds his niche using his extraordinary medical skill and intuition to save lives and challenge the skepticism of his colleagues. This Is Us (NBC)Jack and his wife - who is very pregnant with triplets - have just moved into their new home in Pittsburgh. Successful and handsome television actor Kevin is growing increasingly bored with his bachelor lifestyle. Randall - who was abandoned at a fire station by his father as an infant - is a stylish New York-based businessman working to raise two daughters with his wife, Beth. These people are among a group, several of whom share a birthday, of seemingly random individuals whose lives intertwine in unexpected ways.Grey’s Anatomy (ABC)The medical drama series focuses on a group of young doctors at Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital, who began their careers at the facility as interns. One of the young doctors and the show's namesake, Meredith Grey, is the daughter of a famous surgeon. Grey struggles to maintain relationships with her colleagues, particularly the hospital's one-time chief of surgery, Richard Webber, due to a pre-existing relationship between them - Webber and Meredith's mother had a personal relationship when Meredith was young.Murphy Brown (CBS)Amid a divided nation, chaotic national discourse and rampant attacks on the press, Murphy decides to return to the airwaves and recruits her FYI team: lifestyle reporter Corky Sherwood, investigative journalist Frank Fontana, and her former wunderkind news producer Miles Silverberg.Joining them is social media director Pat Patel, who is tasked with bringing Murphy and the team into the 21st century. Murphy's millennial son, Avery, shares his mother's competitive spirit and quick wit, and is following in her journalistic footsteps—perhaps too closely. The team still lets off steam at Phil's Bar, now run by his sister, Phyllis. Now back in the game, Murphy is determined to draw the line between good television and honest reporting, proving that the world needs Murphy Brown now more than ever. The Ninth: "Muscular".This one was supposed to be all about Glasgow's unfortunate tag as the "No Mean City", but as expected, we digress into the usual nonsense including the Burns Howf and the Muscular Arms, Maggie Bell and Stone the Crows, playing "jorries" and working out what "gird wi a cleet" means. Charlie gets corrected once again by our ever-vigilent listeners, and we yap about the only cinema in Glasgow that was located up a close.Don't worry though, we do manage to cram in a minute or two about the dark crimes and gangs of old, and Charlie even recalls with fondness the only time he was beaten up as an adult. So it all ends well really...
