Rick Estrin and Nathan James join me on episode 131 for a retrospective on James Harman.James ‘Icepick' Harman was born in Anniston, Alabama in 1946. After moving between various locations, including Florida, New York, New Orleans and Chicago, he settled down in Southern California in the early 1970s where he established himself in the vibrant blues scene there.Harman was a formidable song writer and had his own unique view on life which he delivered through his powerful singing voice. His harmonica playing was highly accomplished but he didn't get too bogged down in the technicalities of the instrument, just playing it to great effect.Harman released numerous albums under his own name from the 1970s to 2019, and also recorded with other artists, including three albums with ZZ Top.Links:Nathan James website: https://www.nathandjames.com/James Harman appreciation: https://bluesjunctionproductions.com/an_appreciation_of_james_harmanPlaying with ZZ Top: https://billygibbons.com/2016/10/james-harman-mystery-man-zz-top-band/Videos:James Harman Tribute Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cf-z0fByTsMJames Harman interview from 2013: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkbDA4jpB_cGrit Soup with Rick Estrin and Nathan James:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7x1BajhVfcAlbums on YouTube:Thank You Baby: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_xc_lneR8cExtra Napkins: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVwrq57PM-QStrictly Live in '85: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XR1OEhF6Hr0&list=PLSzXohOP-AmcgBdbKmj-DNYiP6CfPTGUYBlack and White: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_0qUrM_XBwLiquor Parking: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fL9y1bydpCIDidn't We Have Some Fun Sometime album intro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1WhxC8Q1roPodcast website:https://www.harmonicahappyhour.comDonations:If you want to make a voluntary donation to help support the running costs of the podcast then please use this link (or visit the podcast website link above):https://paypal.me/harmonicahappyhour?locale.x=en_GBSpotify Playlist: Also check out the Spotify Playlist, which contains most of the songs discussed in the podcast:https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5QC6RF2VTfs4iPuasJBqwT?si=M-j3IkiISeefhR7ybm9qIQPodcast sponsors:This podcast is sponsored by SEYDEL harmonicas - visit the oldest harmonica factory in the world at www.seydel1847.com or on Facebook or Instagram at SEYDEL HARMONICAS--------------------------------Blue Moon Harmonicas: https://bluemoonharmonicas.comSupport the show

Run Into The Sky Inc. Paramotor Podcast GET YOUR PICTURES IN FOR THE NEXT CALENDAR HERE - https://www.paramotorarkansas.com/products/paramotor-calendar Ep 196 Nathan J Finneman https://www.paramotorarkansas.com/pages/run-into-the-sky-guest My name is Nathan. I'm a pilot based out of Colorado. I've flown all around the world in various aircraft. From gyro-copters to jets and everything in between. If it has wings, I'd try and fly it. I guess it's safe to say I have a taste for adventure. There is something truly defining when it comes to to the relationship of “man and machine”. I have been in aviation for the last 15 years. I started out flying hang gliders in my late teenage years, and progressed to ultralights. My aviation career has had a multitude of variations. I operated leak detection system operations on the back of a helicopter for oil pipeline companies. Also few trainer jets specializing in guidance system applications. Paramotors game into my life around 2010, and it's one of the few flying activities I can say still has the same magical affect on my soul. I flew airshows for about 5 years in paramotors with my buddy Chris Montes, had an absolute blast doing that. Also had several what I call code brown moments flying butt fans over the years. I represented Team USA with Matt Minyard in the World Pylon Racing Championships in Egypt in 2017. And flew through the arches of Moab with Bear Grylls. I have truly met some of the best people around the world because of this sport. I'm often asked, do I prefer flying airplanes more than paramotors. I often disagree. There is something about paramotoring that still encompasses the true freedom that pilots once experienced nearly 100 years ago in the barnstorming era. I feel like this is one of the last aviation realms that a pilot can still feel like a barnstormer. So all this talk about a world altitude record we recently set. And how the help of an amazing team individuals, paired with an incredibly short weather window with temperatures hovering at -14F and winds over 40kts put an American Flag back on the record books. * About Paramotor Arkansas, Run Into The Sky Nonprofit, our mission and how you can help * Soar into the heart of our mission at Run Into The Sky, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering disabled veterans by providing them with the exhilarating opportunity to learn and fly paramotors. Quarto Valley Records proudly announces the new album “Heavenly Cream: An Acoustic Tribute to Cream.” The album takes us on a magical journey -- traveling the brief course of the iconic band's musical life -- back to the raw, stripped-down magic of the creativity of Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, Eric Clapton, and Pete Brown. Passionately produced and mixed by Rob Cass, the new album will be released via Quarto Valley Records on November 3rd on vinyl, CD and digitally on all platforms. Malcolm Bruce, Jack's son, who, as a musician of note, was involved in the making of the album. Formed in 1966, CREAM quickly became known for their explosive impromptu style – high-volume blues jamming, extended solos and flashy instrumental showmanship. The project honors CREAM's legacy with a 15-track tribute album and features Pete Brown and Ginger Baker plus an impressive roster of renowned musicians who knew, or were inspired by the iconic supergroup including Joe Bonamassa, Deborah Bonham, Malcolm Bruce, Peter Bullick, Nathan James, Bernie Marsden, Maggie Bell, Rob Cass, Clem Clempson, Paul Rodgers and Bobby Rush. There were also invaluable musical contributions from Cheryl Alleyne, Winston Blissett, Moreno Buttinar, Abass Dodoo, John Donaldson, Pee Wee Ellis, Mo Foster, Neil Murray, Mo Nazam, Tony Remy, and Frank Tontoh. The first single off the album, “Sunshine of Your Love,” was released on September 1 and features Ginger Baker on drums, Joe Bonamassa on vocals and guitar, Malcom Bruce on piano and the late Bernie Marsden on vocals and guitar, with Neil Murray on bass and Abass Dodoo on percussion. This iconic song, co-written by Jack Bruce and Pete Brown was included on Cream's best-selling second album Disraeli Gears in November 1967 and became one of Cream's fan favorites. “Heavenly Cream: An Acoustic Tribute to Cream” was recorded at Sensible Music and the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London. Years in the making, Quarto Valley Records' executive Mike Carden initially approached Pete Brown, his long-time colleague and friend, in 2017 about a different project and out of that meeting came the concept of doing a recording -- a retrospective of CREAM music -- which both Pete and Mike mutually agreed to. Pete had remained friends with Ginger Baker over the years and brought him on board. Following suit came Malcom Bruce (Jack's son), and the gathering of the incredible talent on the album began to fall into place. On recording this album, Malcom Bruce said, “I feel very much that in my own small way I'm carrying on a tradition that's incredibly unique in the musical canon as it were.” ALBUM TRACK LISTING 1. The Creative Sober Podcast with Mei McIntosh Episode Title: Not Your Narrative - Interview with Nathan James TW: Bullying, self-harm, alcohol abuse, blood, cannabis use, internalized racism In this episode, I spoke with Nathan James, aka Nate the Dreamer, a young creative, content creator, and entrepreneur from Orlando, FL. He is the founder of Not Your Narrative Apparel which aims to tear down the negative perceptions and stereotypes placed on the black community. He has 3 and a half years of sobriety under his belt so far (many more years to come). Nathan has a passion for advocating for mental health and marginalized communities. He wants to remind the world we're human and being vulnerable isn't a flaw and he believes that sometimes our vulnerability is the key to someone else's prison." I especially enjoyed my time with Nathan and the easy flow of our conversation. Even though this was our first time speaking, he graciously held space with me like a good friend to answer personal questions about his life in active addiction, experiencing the challenges and positives of recovery, and discovering his creative passions. The Wildman and Steve continue their interview with the phenomenal musician and vocalist Nathan James. Bumper music: Messengermetal.com Podcast edited by Jay Smith jayalansmith.com
Nathan James, today's guest on the Jake Dunlap Show started his journey in the business world at a very young age (at 8 he was selling vegetables from his backyard to his neighbors) and has held various jobs in sales and digital marketing before becoming the CEO of Boardroom Socks. What started out as a hobby his father had, soon turned out to be a real success, the quality of their products and the increasing demand for traditionally made products giving them a real chance to stand the test of time.James comes from a long line of textile titans who've supported the industry in North Carolina, the Charlotte-based company his parents launched in 2010, selling more than 50 styles and colors of cotton and wool men's dress socks. We talk about his early onset passion for business, his years at University and lessons he learned along the way about running a niche company. Time stamps: 00:48- Introducing Nathan James- from selling his mother's backyard vegetables to starting his eCommerce page while he was still in university and now CEO of his family business, Boardroom Socks;02:12- An entrepreneur in the making- guided and supported by his parents who were also his example, both of them being business entrepreneurs;05:56- His years at Elon University- the people he met directed his future steps in the real world of business;08:46- Studying in Cuba- learning to be grateful for the opportunities and the lifestyle America has to offer;10:36- Bass fishing- qualifying for regionals;12:52- A family legacy, entrepreneurship and digital marketing- the sum of ingredients that culminated with a dream come true- Boardroom Socks;14:20- Why socks, though? The journey…17:47- Lessons learned- understanding the product and the customer- the key to finding their niche;22:55- Ignore the noise, keep the business focused and stay excited and motivated;33:59- New and exciting in manufacturing- renewed interest towards domestic manufacturing. Quotes “I was very fortunate in how my parents raised my brother and I, and that they were both entrepreneurs and they were very willing to let us kind of run with ideas.” “The way he (his professor) always explained it is, there are two kinds of professors: there's AQ, academically qualified, and then there's PQ, professionally qualified (...) A lot of the knowledge and the information that he shared just all around sales and marketing it was just so applicable and hands-on in the real world that I think it really opened up my eyes.” “It doesn't really matter what job you're doing, at some point you're always selling, you're selling something. You're selling yourself, everything kinda comes back to sales.” “My dad had worn for years and years just a classic black Merino wool over the cap dress sock and he always got them locally made and just being plugged in the textile community (...) it started as really a hobby more than anything else, so he started making the socks for his personal use and then some of his friends started to ask about them and then it kind of snowballed and grew organically. I thought he was nuts when he first came up with this(...) I didn't understand it”. ”When I left my day job to start working at Boardroom socks full time and to really run the company, I remember one of the first things I did was to move everything, move the business out of their house and into a warehouse, and I had to count all the socks that were in their house (...) and it was over fifteen thousand pairs of socks that they had in their house (...) Their socks were just everywhere.” “You have to figure out what you're good at and what your business is good at and then really double down, triple down on that and just relentlessly focus on that, and do the best you can to ignore the noise and just put your blinders on and focus on what you're good at. And then, once you've mastered that, put a system or a process in place to manage it.” ______________________________ Get in contact with Nathan: LinkedinBoardroom Socks website ______________________________ Mentions: Elon UniversityFLW Tournament at Lake Guntersville- bass fishing tournament __________________________ Follow Jake: WebsiteInstagramLinkedInTwitter ______________________________

Jerry talks with vocalist Nathan James about the super-group project Iconic and their debut album Second Skin.
SURPRISE! Introducing a new series... TRUE CRIME. While this true crime series will focus mainly on true crime murders and mysteries, I'll also be throwing in a few death penalty related topics from time to time - starting .... now. After all, the inmates facing execution usually have pretty deep roots in true crime. In this episode, we discuss the United States' most recent execution, which occurred on July 28, 2022. His name was Joe Nathan James, Jr.
Sound Matters episode #127 features Tom's conversation with Nathan James from the supergroup Iconic and the UK's Inglorious. Admittedly, I didn't know much about vocalist Nathan James until diving into some research about him and listening to his previous records with Inglorious. Great singer with an ear for melody... this alone is worth checking him out. The new supergroup Iconic's debut album Second Skin also featuring Michael Sweet, Joel Hoekstra, Marco Mendoza, and Tommy Aldridge is a cut above many of these types of projects put together by Frontiers Records. With the caliber of talent assembled here, my expectations were high. They did not disappoint. This album rocks, and has the hooks present throughout to keep you coming back. I was sure what to expect with Nathan but found him to be charming and transparent. We dig into his old band, this new band, his approach to songwriting and his career, as well his what he feels is misunderstood about him as a person. Don't miss this one!> Tom's the 1st and #1> Second Skin title> Singing with Michael Sweet> Recording the album at a distance> Sweet's biggest compliment to Nathan> About the song "All I Need"> His evolution as a vocalist, performer, and songwriter> The need to buy a physical copy of the album> Tommy Aldridge and the video shoot> The funniest guy in the band> His view of the position he's in today> Wishes he was 20 yrs old in 1986> Other song Nathan co-wrote on the Iconic album> How this project came to exist> The moment he decided to become a musician for a career> Things he's learned about the music business so far> On being very deliberate and smart about career choices> Something people misunderstand about him> Advice he'd give his younger selfConnect with Nathan James:Facebook: www.facebook.com/nathanjamesingTwitter: www.twitter.com/thenathanjamesInstagram: www.instagram.com/thenathanjamesConnect with TOM LEU:Websites: www.SoundMatters.tv | www.TomLeu.com | www.16Imaging.com Official Facebook Page: www.facebook.com/tomleu2Twitter: www.twitter.com/tomleu (@tomleu)Instagram: www.instagram.com/tomleu (@tomleu)YouTube: www.tomleu.tv SOUND MATTERS Radio Episode #127 >> www.SoundMatters.tv/sm127/

This week we are coming down from the upper atmosphere and tethering ourselves closer to the earth with the seminal 1973 Herbie Hancock album, "Headhunters". If you've ever wondered what the difference is between hard bop, modal jazz, and jazz-funk, this episode is for you! Join us as we try to figure out how many arms Herbie Hancock has (definitely more than two) and reminisce about the good ole days of grocery store CD purchases, marching band "stand tunes", and lifetime warranties from now-defunct music stores. In order to suss this all out, we brought on a very special guest—our friend, trombone extraordinaire and amateur jazz scholar, Dr. Nathan James. Don't forget to let us know if you're on #TeamOverdubs!Be sure to support the artists by purchasing "Head Hunters" on iTunes or wherever you get your music.
