As millennials we face a lot of tough choices with regards to what we should devote our career to doing. It's genuinely difficult to decide whether we should "follow our passion" and do the thing we actually want to do, or the thing that seems more practical. We talk to fellow podcaster Andy Reinhold about this decision, at a pretty critical transition point in his life: he spent his career in consulting, and last year he quit his job to work in gaming. But it hasn't been a straight shot for him. A lot of the people who initially said they would work with him backed out, and he has been trying to understand for himself the difference between a hobby, a passion, and a job. Now that he has a baby, he is going back to consulting out of a need to make ends meet. Maslow's hierarchy of needs focuses on human developmental psychology which is personal growth. Maslow's hierarchy of needs is often portrayed in the shape of a pyramid with the largest, most fundamental needs at the bottom and the need for self-actualization at the top. In our episode today we are only going to focus on the "basic needs" so the bottom of the pyramid. 1 - Physiological needs: food, water, shelter, sleep, clothing, ect. To pursue any other motivation in life, your physiological needs must be met first. 2 - Safety needs: security and safety. Personal security, employment, resources, health, property (land, house, home etc.) If a person does not feel safe in an environment, they will seek safety before attempting to meet any higher level of survival. https://www.mhalancaster.org/2016/05/25/maslows-hierarchy-needs-mental-health-recovery/ https://paulpolak.com/ https://www.yumindonesia.org/ --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/nadjmat/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nadjmat/support

Grubitude

These five episodes are dedicated to all the young bloods that just wanna do their thing but also to the older generations because sometimes it's worth asking yourself: What am I actually working for? As some of you know it has been a year since I quit my job and therefore started to focus on myself completely as well as to use the precious time that is given to me for 100% the way I want. Moreover, it has also been a year since I made a Power Point Presentation for my parents to explain why I'm quitting my job and what I actually wanna do in life. A fucking Power Point Presentation? Yes. People were asking me why I've put that much effort into explaining my resignation to my parents – well, when your parents are immigrants that worked their asses off for decades in order to enable their children a nice future in a safe environment, they have certain expectations regarding their children and the way their children are “supposed” to do specific things - especially when it comes to choosing the “right” career path. Somebody who did not care their whole life whether they loved their work or not because they had to work to secure their existence might not understand immediately the do-what-you-love & love-what-you-do “principle”. So, sometimes we gotta deploy empathy and understanding for our parents, because when we have the feeling that they are over-worrying and therefore limiting us, it is just for the reason that they don't know it better - the fear and worries that they carry around with themselves regarding their children's future is weirdly said their way of expressing their love. Thus, sometimes you just gotta make your parents aware of the fact that you're not on this world to live up to their expectations and they're not on this world to live up to yours. Sometimes you also gotta remind them that you grew up in a completely different culture built upon different values what means that you might have a different understanding regarding certain things. And sometimes, you gotta ask them what success actually is and if they want you to be happy. I'm so glad that I did this because ever since then I feel blessed, no matter what I'm doing – Mom, Dad – I love you!

Finding Our Freedom

Welcome to Finding Our Freedom today is AUG 18th2020 and this is Episode 1 Title – Maslows Hierarchy of Needs This day in History: In 1587, Virginia Dare became the first child of English parents to be born in present-day America, on what is now Roanoke Island in North Carolina. The Roanoke colony ended up mysteriously disappearing, becoming one of America's oldest mysteries. The mystery began in August of 1590 when John White, governor of the new province, who had sailed back to England to gather a fresh load of supplies returned. Once there he found his wife and daughter, his infant granddaughter (Virginia Dare), and the other settlers were gone. He found no trace of the colony or its inhabitants, and few clues to what might have happened, apart from a single word—"Croatoan"—carved into a wooden post. Investigations into the fate of the "Lost Colony" of Roanoke have continued over the centuries, but no one has come up with a satisfactory answer. We will probably never know what happened to them but must remember that they began the first English settlement later, leading to what is now the United States. I find it fitting that on the first day that this PodCast air is the anniversary of the first recorded birth in what is now America. On Virginias' birthday, we start our journey to find more freedom in our lives. I wanted to begin by talking about our need for additional freedom and the right to take care of our selves and our needs. This all is in line with Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Those wishing to control our decisions use it against us so we need to understand it for several reasons. First to gain control back into our own lives and then to recognize and defend against others trying to control our lives. During this episode, I'll be concentrating on the basic needs that we all have. I have a copy of the entire hierarchy in the podcast notes though. At the base, we have our physiological and safety needs. This includes where we get our food, warmth, rest, security, and safety from, and whoever controls this will control us. Until we can fulfill these needs we can't move onto improving in other areas that we need. Many of us try to make ends meet through credit cards or other programs and we make our decisions based on those needs never improving in our lives. The more control we can take back the more freedom we will enjoy. This is also why the more control we have over our finances the more freedom we have. By changing a few things in our lives moving away from using credit cards and other debt the more control we gain over our basic needs. Unfortunately, many people don't realize how much control they don't have, and every time something sounds like it might give them an edge in gaining control instead of thinking about it and weighing the advantages and disadvantages they jump right on the opportunity digging themselves in even deeper. Instead of fulfilling the need for food by supplementing your food supply with a garden or other means people seem to concentrate on going to restaurants. There is a lot to be said for someone who learns to cook instead of popping a box of something in the oven or even worse getting it from a restaurant every night. By taking fresh ingredients and even better something you grew yourself and making something delicious you will find that you save money and feel better after each meal. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to get out of these traps. Most of which is through making wise decisions and putting away a little for the future. Don't you think it's about time that we take our freedom back from those that would hold it. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/finding-our-freedom/support

You have one intention that you are going to deliver throughout this 'Live.' Make it very clear in the title and description of the Facebook Live, what your intention is, and don't deviate from that. You should be looking, with any FB Live, to be solving one problem. You are looking to create a solution to one specific problem, obstacle, challenge." JLD 14:00 John provides an example of a Facebook Live about how to grow your podcast audience. He talks about a technique for keeping focus on the specific intention of the Facebook Live. 15:36 How to use your previous Facebook Lives as reference points you can provide to people who have questions about a specific topic. 16:31 For the instructor who is used to teaching in a time block such as a 50-minute class, would you break that apart in to separate Facebook Lives. John suggests breaking that original 50-minute class block in to shorter sections. 17:50 A question asked on behalf of musicians who are doing music online in lieu of concerts in traditional venues. John suggests doing a longer Facebook Live (more than 10 minutes) in you're entertaining people. 19:02 The longer you stay on with your concert, the better chance people have to stumble across your broadcast. 19:32 I give an example of the Tiny Farmhouse Concert that we were doing from the farmhouse at Dawn of Promise Farm during the shutdown. One of our favorite guests, Mike Michalowicz, joins Dr. Sabrina in today’s episode to talk about his latest book Fix This Next.  Mike was the very first guest on the Profit By Design Podcast, and today marks his third occasion of being on the show. Listen in to find out what inspired Mike to write his latest book, learn about the Business Hierarchy of Needs as a basis of applying our business fixes, and why we need to be asking our clients what they need from us. Mike Michalowicz (pronounced mi-‘kal-o-wits) is the author of Profit First, Clockwork, Surge, The Pumpkin Plan, and his newest release Fix This Next. By his 35th birthday, Mike had founded and sold two companies - one to private equity and another to a Fortune 500. Today he is running his third multi-million dollar venture, Profit First Professionals. Mike is a former small business columnist for The Wall Street Journal and the former business makeover specialist on MSNBC. Over the years, Mike has traveled the globe speaking with thousands of entrepreneurs and is here today to share the best of what he has learned. Profit by Design is a Tap the Potential Production in collaboration with Small Business Consulting Group. Show Highlights: The biggest challenge business owners have is knowing what their biggest challenge is. The Business Hierarchy of Needs is based on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, and Mike explains how the five levels of need apply in business: Sales Profit Order Impact Legacy Where you need to apply your fix is always in this hierarchy. Start at the foundation, work your way up, and pinpoint where you’re compromised, where that thing is not adequately satisfied, then fix that and go through the cycle again to find the next fix. Many small businesses try to skip levels. Being profitable is the only way you can be of service to your clients. Dr. Sabrina shares a quote from Mike in his interview in Episode 1 that made a significant impression on her: “Our clients and customers crave for us to be profitable.” Fear and lack of confidence have affected a lot of business owners, especially since the beginning of the coronavirus event. Mike has online training, The Confidence Course, that will help develop what you already have. We should be asking our customers what they need now. Valuable elements from Mike’s prior books, Profit First and Pumpkin Plan are discussed. Understanding the needs of our top 20% clients that are responsible for 80% of our revenue historically in the business is a powerful way to move forward. If we increase revenue from our top 20% by 25% we can replace the revenue from the 80% that we may have lost or we just might not want to do business with because they were not our ideal clients. “Sell the Tell”: The new process to cater to that top 20%. Go to your existing client base and ask what they want, and bring imagination to it. Mike details this project. Fix This Next pulls together Mike’s work. It helps us to understand where we need to focus. His previous books support different levels of the business hierarchy needs. Tap The Potential has 50 copies of Fix This Next to give out! Steve and his team have been at the forefront of dealing with COVID-19 and supporting other entrepreneurs as they deal with the pandemic’s effect on the business. Listen in as Steve shares what he learned and has put into place prior to the COVID-19 event that has helped him and his team to be stable and sustainable throughout this uncertain time, applying Pumpkin Plan principles throughout the process. You’ll also hear how Steve and his team have led through this and dealt with morale issues. This is a great opportunity to put some of these ideas into place in your own business so that your work supports life and your business sustains life for all the team members involved. Steve describes himself as a blue-collar executive. He founded S&B Lawn and Garden Care in 1983, while still in high school. After graduating from college with a BA in Economics, he changed the name of his landscaping company to American Landscape Service. This provided him with an understanding of the financial tools he would need to succeed. In 2018, he got serious about building his team by finding their strengths, learning how they communicate, having one-on-one meetings, and having regular team meetings. (Check out Tap the Potential’s Better Business, Better Life™ Program) Steve shares what his experience was like as an entrepreneur prior to 2015, and how his numbers have changed over the last five years. Dr. Sabrina explains the philosophy of Profit First. What “Leading with Love” means for Steve’s leadership.
