We return to the worlds of What If as we wonder what if Spider-Man had remained possessed by the evil alien symbiote suit? We discuss the unusual story behind the suit's creation by fan Randy Schueller to its introduction in both The Amazing Spider-Man 252 AND Secret Wars 8. We dive into this week's What If that sees both a Venom-ized Hulk and Thor plus an awesome turn for Black Cat before diving into a recently Venom-ized Hulk in Absolute Carnage. All of this plus special guest Joey Vazquez from Midtown Comics. Ep. 98 What if the alien costume had possessed Spider-Man? With SPECIAL GUEST Joey of Midtown ComicsPlus a HISTORY of Spider-Man's black costume that becomes the symbiote VenomEarth-1089 as seen in What If Vol. 2 #4On this week's episode we kick off with the strange history of the black symbiote suit from fan Randy Schueller to it's introduction in both Amazing Spider-Man 252 and of course Marvel's Secret Wars 8 by Jim Shooter and Mike Zeck. We then head to the world of What If to ask the question what if Spider-Man remained possessed by the black costume. Oh, and what if The Hulk and Thor were too. This issue by Danny Fingeroth and Mark Bailey also features some great scenes for the Black Cat too. Then we wrap up by seeing the return of Venom-ized Hulk in 2019's Absolute Carnage by Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman. We conclude with our special guest Joey Vazquez from Midtown Comics by speculating what's next for Venom, Spider-Man and the symbiote on screen. Also in this episode: A brief background of Secret Wars, the eventual realization of Randy's dream in Sensational Spider-Man: Self-Improvement, and much more. We all have dating stories that are easy to look back at and see how we should have gotten out of it early on. Some are silly to look at and some seem so dangerous. But it isn’t easy to see what’s going on when we’re in the middle of it. This week, Maria is sharing one story, hoping you might learn from it and maybe share this with someone that might be in the middle of their own toxic relationship. Sharing her story this week is writer Zoë Gulliksen. She’s worked at a wealth of different places including Gotham News, The New York Public Library, MoviePass, and Midtown Comics. While working as a movie journalist she interviewed talent such as Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, Colin Firth, Ryan Gosling, Leonardo DiCaprio, and many more. She’s written a blog post about her toxic relationship that has been seen by many people. So much so that anyone who has tried to date this guy since they find the blog post, saving themselves from potential disaster! It was a rainy Sunday afternoon, and I was in the Times Square area of Manhattan. I had a half hour to myself, so I did what I'm supposed to do in a situation like that: I went to the comic shop. On today's podcast, I talk about my trip to the store and what I found there. Sometimes, it's fun just to get lost. If you have no game plan, you never know what surprises might pop up. I kept an eye out for European comics, naturally, and got the chance to see what Magnetic Press and IDW, in particular, are up to these days. There are some very nice print books out there today. Links of Interest: The Hybrid Comics Collector (https://www.pipelinecomics.com/hybrid_collector/) Magnetic Press, Oni Press, and Polarity, Oh My! (https://www.pipelinecomics.com/the-merger-of-lion-forge-and-oni-press/) An account of a previous, yet somewhat similar trip to the Midtown Comics Grand Central store (https://www.pipelinecomics.com/the-simple-joys-of-paper-comics/) The Asterix Agenda (http://pipelinecomics.com/asterix) : Every Asterix book, reviewed. Jerome Bloche (https://www.pipelinecomics.com/jerome-k-jerome-bloche-v1-aina/) - This book, in particular, I did not see in the shop. IDW is picking from another part of the series for print publication. Their album format is the model all publishers should use in reprinting albums in North America. A few presumed it to be an exclusive item, and it turns out it is. A full case of this single item was found at a Toysrus in Singapore. We know it is an exclusive since it has an "imported by TRU" sticker in the back which, in Singapore, is used for their exclusives. This keeps an odd tradition of Thundercracker toys being exclusives, which we previously saw in the Studio Series line from Hasbro and in the Arms Micron line from Takara. Since there are no Toysrus stores in the US it is unknown how that toy will be made available in that country. While it is not the case yet for Transformers, there have been a few Hasbro exclusives for the Star Wars line that have only been made available at Toysrus stores elsewhere in the world with no distribution channel in the US. Transformers Studio Series Bumblebee Helmethttps://www.facebook.com/mytoymalaysia/photos/a.335783216621774/932290223637734/?type=3 Siege Wars Wave 1 Decepticons Over the last couple of weeks, store listings have been cropping up for the Transformers Siege line, with some interesting listings which confirm that yes, there will be some Decepticons in this line after their notable absence at SDCC 2018. Midtown Comics have now added listings for the first wave of Siege toys, which name the remainder of the first wave toys by confirming a Decepticon in every size class. There are no images yet – but we bet these will be officially revealed in early October at New York Comic Con 2018, if not a bit before.First off, there are the reveals that one could work out through educated guesswork. In the Micromaster size class, we have the Air Strike Patrol – who were also the only Decepticon patrol out of the original four Micromaster patrols in the original 1989 assortment. In the Battle Master size class, we have Targetmaster Blowpipe – partner to Generation 1 Triggerhappy, and doubtless destined to end up in the hands of Titans Return Triggerhappy toys everywhere. And in the Voyager size class, we have Megatron – because what is Optimus Prime without his age old rival? (Probably an Optimus Prime from one of those lines where Hasbro opted not to release Megatron, to be fair)The remaining two reveals are both major fist-pump in the air, “they’re finally making this guy!” class reveals. In the Deluxe class, we have Skytread. If you don’t know the name, don’t worry – it is what Hasbro renamed Flywheels to for Titans Return. So this suggests we are getting a Flywheels to go with this year’s Battletrap – and we’d go as far as to suggest with Cog’s gimmick of splitting into two vehicles for his transformation, we just might get a fully functional Duocon out of the bargain, although individual robot modes for the components might be unlikely at the pricepoint.Last, but by no means least. we have Shockwave. A leader class Shockwave, no less. We’d guess that he would go quite well with the other Leader class Decepticon leaders such as Combiner Wars Megatron and Starscream, and Titans Return Soundwave. We’re also betting his alternate mode will be some kind of spacecraft – possibly with wings that just happen to fold down so you can also make a “submarine” mode. The full lineup of Siege Wave 1 toys is as follows:Micromaster two-packs: Race Patrol, Battle Patrol, Air Strike PatrolBattle Masters: Firedrive (Firebolt), Lionizer, BlowpipeDeluxe: Cog, Hound, Sideswipe, Skytread (Flywheels)Voyager: Optimus Prime, MegatronLeader: Ultra Magnus, Shockwave Custom Spotlight Tackling Tacky Plastichttps://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1255520/painted-minis-still-sticky-after-monthshelp Transformers Bumblebee Ironhide Ratchet Optimus Prime Grapple Inferno Combinerhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=By2l2HBtxzo KO KornerNB Masterpiece MP-12+ Sideswipe ANIME COLOR EDITIONPrice:USD $34.95Shipping Cost: $8.19Total $43.14!!https://tf-direct.com/nb-masterpiece-mp-12-sideswipe-anime-color-edition_p2452.html Bedbugs Bargin Bin: Asshole of the Week: Guest (The Thirteen Questions) - Paul ChiuWhat's your preferred name/handle?Year born? What's your favorite sammich?Favorite music? What got you (back) into collecting? What scale do you collect?Focus collection or any Non-TF collections? To KO or not to KO?What movie makes you cry?Have you done anything untoward for your toy addiction?Tits, ass, legs, face, other? What’s a weird thing about you? idiosyncrasies, phobias, etc.Go to sex position? I thought to buy a few graphic novels at my nearest comic book shop. Midtown Comics in NYC by 40th st and 7th ave. was the place to go. The three books I purchased were Snotgirl volume one, Black Science volume one, and Bingo Love. Bingo Love was the slimmest of the three. The cover tells you it's a lesbian love story between two black women. On a recent Sunday night after work, I caught up on the most recent episodes of Ash Vs. Evil Dead and the Walking Dead. I didn't want to go to sleep with zombie images on my mind. I picked up this book and began reading it. Bingo Love had me quickly emotionally invested. Smiling, crying, laughing. All within a 40-minute read. What a beautiful love story. The comic book format is a fantastic medium to tell a(written)story you'd find in a traditional book. The main characters are Hazel and Mari. I found myself rooting for their forbidden love to be recognized. The art style is a mix between an anime style and the Scott Pilgrim comics. It fit the story well. I don't want to give away too much of the book's story but if you want a feel-good graphic novel? Bingo Love is it! Whatever author Tee Franklin does next, I'm in. I hope it's in a similar format. On today's episode, I sat down with Christopher James in our hotel in New York City to cover Part 2 of our visit! We had such an incredible time in New York City, and can't wait to return. The final day I pretty much walked Christopher to death, making sure that I could show him all that Lower Manhattan had to offer. We walked 14 miles in just a matter of 5 hours! I paid for it a few days later, but as we recorded this episode, Christopher was exhausted and ready to kill me. On the episode, we talked about our visit to the Seinfeld Diner (Tom's Restaurant), visiting Times Square, Christopher almost getting conned by a Monk, cruising down the Hudson to see the Statue of Liberty, attend the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, getting to talk to Colbert, Midtown Comics, Central Park, and so much more! New York City didn't let us down, and I look forward to returning in October for New York Comic Con. It's always a great time in New York, and it was great being able to show Christopher around the city. Thanks for having us New York! Enjoy the episode! It's a comic book focused week at Syfy Wire on our little podcast. There's a Squirrel Girl and the New Warriors half hour comedy coming to Freeform and we've got some half hour comedic thoughts about it. Plus, after a week of heated discussion on Marvel's diversity statement from their retail summit, we wanted to get in our two cents about what it really takes to keep the lights on at a local brick and mortar. Dany is joined by a trio of comic experts: Fabian Lelay (artist for Jade Street Protection Services at Black Mask Studios), Vita Ayala (writer for DC and Black Mask Studios) and Matthew Klein (famed comic book slinger for Valiant and the New York City institution, Forbidden Planet). Three have worked at Forbidden Planet, one works at Midtown Comics and, so, with a blend of passion for the creative and an awareness of the retail realism, we tackle one of the most challenging conversations happening across nerd media today. No pressure, right?
Aaron is out of town for work and hotel wifi is a cruel mistress, so we’re forced to put the brakes on our regular programming for a few weeks. Instead, we’re bringing you the new hotness that we’ve lovingly dubbed the Kame House Party Pregame, wherein we take a break from watching Dragon Ball to talk about other stuff we’ve been watching/doing. In this pregame Vince talks about his recent trip to New York Comic Con. Topics of discussion include: racism barometers, Pokémon conventions, feeling like a filthy casual, classification of dragon ball groupings, ideal cosplays, more Harambe, Luigis marching, Barb, not meeting your heroes, and who’s the better friend. We also come up with a new improv form and play “describe the cosplay picture” Links to most of the stuff Vince gave a shoutout to: Bottle Neck Gallery https://bottleneckgallery.com/ Betsy https://betsyillustration.carbonmade.com/ Anime Stuff Store http://www.animestuffstore.com/ Joe Corroney http://joecorroney.storenvy.com/ Midtown Comics http://www.midtowncomics.com/ PCS Collectibles http://www.popcultureshocktoys.com/ Hero Complex Gallery https://hcgart.com/ Kkehasuk https://www.etsy.com/shop/KKEHASUK Opening/Closing Track: Classic Male Pregame – Lil Dicky http://www.lildicky.com/ Let us know what you think of the temporary format through any of the following ways: email: kamehousepartypod@gmail.com facebook: www.facebook.com/kamehouseparty/ twitter: twitter.com/kamehouseparty instagram: www.instagram.com/kamehouseparty/

Today at a live press event at Midtown Comics in New York City moderated by Marvel PR man Chris D’Lando, Marvel Comics’ Executive Editor Tom Brevoort and Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso announced that the Marvel Universe will smash together with the Ultimate Universe and will be replaced by Battleworld -- a mashup of many different Marvel realities. Take a moment to compose yourself. This huge development has been in the works for some time in Jonathan Hickman’s years-long Avengers saga. The heroes have been trying to stop a series of universe-ending “incursions” where two universes collide with one another. The inciting incident to May’s eight-part Secret Wars event will be when the heroes fail to stop the regular and Ultimate universes from crashing together. The resulting Battleworld will the Marvel Universe going forward.
