What role does higher ed play in making sure manufacturing thrives? Universities and other higher ed hubs are playing a leading role in shaping the future of this industry. And MIT is a prime example of this, with specialist courses to help graduates and professionals get the skills they need to bring new innovations to life. We're joined by the Principal Investigator of MIT's LEAP Group (Learning Engineering and Practice), Dr. John Liu. As someone deeply involved in building much-needed programs, including the MicroMasters and TechAMP, we asked for his take on manufacturing today, what we can learn from history, and higher ed's role in revitalizing the industry. We also talk about the hot topic of globalization and offshoring and what research says about the impact on the U.S. as an innovator economy. In this episode, find out:An introduction to LEAP Group and Dr. John's role in researching and leading programs to help the future of manufacturing leaders How John's career pivoted to the manufacturing side of techWhat people should know about MIT's history in manufacturing, including innovative practices and technologies we still use todayWhat can we learn from history that applies to manufacturing in today's AI-driven world? The impact of globalization and the conclusions that an MIT report came to about its impact on an innovator economy How manufacturing has changed since the report was published and what John would add that's relevant today What is MIT doing to help educate and drive innovation across manufacturing and techDr. John explains his involvement in the MicroMasters program as its founder The four principles of manufacturing that remain universal and timelessHow MIT's programs differ from trade or regular tech schools How the TechAMP program differs from MicroMasters as a program for professionals already in the industry Dr. John gives an overview of MIT's collaborations with the DoD and Manufacturing USA The important role that higher ed plays in reindustrialization Enjoying the show? Please leave us a review here. Even one sentence helps. It's feedback from Manufacturing All-Stars like you that keeps us going!Tweetable Quotes:"If we just continue to set up walls, we'll never learn and innovate. And so how do we, instead of setting up walls, reach across walls and learn from all the innovation that's happening?""We lose our ability to innovate if we produce elsewhere. Why? Because when you actually are forced to go from prototype to make a lot of these things, the design changes in all these sorts of ways... That's a whole type of innovation that is not as celebrated in our country today.""No matter what age, what company, you always have to be able to control four things: manufacturing processes, manufacturing systems, the supply, the people and finances. Always these four."Links & mentions:The Machine That Changed the World, a book written by MIT professors about finding success in automotive manufacturing, which led to the popularity of lean manufacturingMaking in America: From Innovation to Market, a book written by MIT scientists, engineers and social scientists about rebuilding the industrial landscape in the U.S.TechAMP, a 12-month program at MIT LEAP Group to bridge the gap between technicians and engineers

E377 – "Inner Voice: A Heartfelt Chat with Dr. Foojan Zeine." In this episode, Dr. Foojan Zeine chats with Hamed Farmand, whose mother was incarcerated for five years when he was six, and is the founder and president of Children of Imprisoned Parents International (COIPI). He studied the fundamentals of psychology at NOVA College and, under the mentorship of Dr. Shervin Assari, gained a deep understanding of the psychological impact of parental incarceration on children. Hamed serves as a board member of the International Coalition for Children with Incarcerated Parents (INCCIP) and is a member of the Global Prison Nursery Network, where he shares his research on children living with their mothers in Iranian prisons. Hamed has earned several prestigious certifications, including “Child Protection: Children's Rights in Theory and Practice” from Harvard University, a MicroMasters in “Social Work, Practice, Policy, and Research” from the University of Michigan, and a certificate in “Resilience in Children Exposed to Trauma, Disaster, and War” from the University of Minnesota. He is also certified in “Advocating Social Justice and Change” from the University of Adelaide. Dr. and Hamed discussed the profound impact of parental incarceration on children, drawing from Hamed's personal experience and research. Hamed shared how his mother's five-year imprisonment shaped his life and emphasized the need for society, caregivers, and parents to better support children in similar situations. He highlighted the trauma, stigma, and lack of resources that these children face and advocated for open, honest conversations to build trust and resilience. They addressed the importance of providing mental health support for incarcerated individuals and their families, particularly focusing on the role of education, access to services, and reducing stigma. Hamed discussed systemic issues like poverty and gender inequality, noting the link between incarceration and socio-economic challenges. He also emphasized the need for community involvement in supporting these children and preventing trauma from being passed down to future generations. The conversation touched on coping mechanisms children develop due to parental absence, the role of community support, and how dissociation or overachievement can be common reactions to their circumstances. Both speakers stressed the importance of addressing trauma, providing mentorship, and promoting resilience in children affected by parental incarceration. Hamed concluded by discussing his organization's efforts in education, services, and research to support these children globally. 20 Best California Mental Health Podcasts https://podcasts.feedspot.com/california_mental_health_podcasts/ Check out my website: www.FoojanZeine.com, www.AwarenessIntegration.com, www.Foojan.com Remember to Subscribe, Listen, Review, and Share! On this episode, we learned a lot. Sometimes in real-time. Like we'll be getting an entire wave of Mandalorian Retro Collection figures. Mattel is doing some pretty cool things at Mattel Creations, including a clear Origins Skeletor. Just wish I would have learned of it sooner. We had heard rumors about the third wave of Classified, but now the trusted source that revealed earlier waves including the Cobra Island exclusives, confirms it will be Lady Jay, Flint, and Major Bludd. Finally, Transformers is doing a 6-pack of Micromasters. Not too exciting right? Well two of them are M.A.S.K. homages. One is of my favorite M.A.S.K. vehicle, the Hurricane. $30 for one Micromaster?

MOOCs are getting bad press - that student engagement and completion rates are very low. But at edX.or, 60% of all and paid-for work gets completed, it has 500 corporate customers up- and re-skilling their workforces, and its new modular ‘Micromasters’ credential, which offers 25-50% of a traditional Masters has been accepted as an onramp by over 90 global Universities as an on-ramp to their traditional Master’s programs. So maybe the idea of MOOCs isn’t that screwed after all? To find out, we engaged with the Founder and CEO at edX Professor Anant Agarwal, an Engineer, Computer Scientist and a real giant in online pedagogy to get his perspective. Our conversation ranges from how hard it is to change something that hasn’t really changed in hundreds of years - Education, to a reminder of what the ‘M’ and ‘O’ stand for - Massive, and Open, and how central those words are to what edX does, as well as the deep interest in the edX user base for critical thinking, communications and story-telling education as much as business or tech. We also hear about his early years studying Electrical Engineering at school at Madras, India, followed by his move to study Computer Science in the US, as well as: the original MOOC idea, and how much it’s changed and 9-10 years a - improvements not everyone’s caught up with, ita portrait of the average edX user and their motivations, extreme geographical spread and what they want from their experience; why technology is a double-edged sword; edX For Business - a new set of partnerships and opportunities; why it’s time to stop saying ‘soft,’ and start saying ‘powerful skills’ instead; the challenges of creating an appropriate self-directed Learning culture for the enterprise; the concept of Learning Science and the possibility of neuroscience as a way to tune up our understanding of how we learn; and finally, how his team is looking at how are brains our wired like active learning, and deriving highly suggestive analytics and data out of those EEGs.

The other voices you can hear are that of the other MicroDegree students.Vanessa chose to do bisexuality because it is often considered a hidden sexuality because those who are bisexual are often seen as heterosexual if they are in a monogamous opposite-sex relationship or gay if they are in a same-sex relationship, neither of which can feel complete for someone who is bisexual. Through her research, Vanessa discovered that bisexual erasure is prevalent and so is bisexuality as well. In-hand impressions of Transformers Generations War for Cybertron: Siege figures come next, with analysis starting for Deluxe Class figures Sideswipe, Hound, Cog, and Skytread/Flywheels. After that, Micromasters from the Race Car, Battle, and Air Strike Patrols get a look. Weaponizers Lionizer, Blowpipe, and Firedrive come next before the Generations discussion concludes with Voyager Class Megatron and Optimus Prime. A look at the upcoming Generations Select releases of Ricochet and Red Swoop is followed by a quick examination of the recently released Transformers: Botbots lineup. The endings of the long-running IDW Transformers comics continuity comes next, with the end of event book Unicron occurring first. Optimus Prime's namesake series is talked about next before the comics discussion concludes with Lost Light's finale. Bragging Rights close out another episode with early holiday season sales driving the cast's recent purchases.

On episode #212 of the Seibertron.com Twincast / Podcast, cast members Megatronus and xRotorstormx wax lyrical about how Black Friday has creeped outward to cover most of Thanksgiving week, and how this in conjunction with the advent of online events such as Cyber Monday have dulled excitement for the sales season. The conversation moves to new sightings across Power of the Primes, Studio Series, and Siege. This dovetails into our look at Seibertron's exclusive galleries of War for Cybertron Siege Battlemasters, Micromasters, Deluxes, and Voyagers. The episode moves in a cinematic direction to evaluate new details of the upcoming Bumblebee Movie, including its run time and rating - which compare favorably to this film's predecessors - and a new trailer which provides a glimpse of the movie's action on Cybertron. We wrap up the episode the way we always do - with bragging rights, where cast members discuss what they've acquired since the last episode.

Episode 209 of the Twincast Podcast from Seibertron.com features a wide variety of regular hosts and special guests from the site's news staff as they all react to the latest Transformers product reveals made by Hasbro at the 2018 New York Comic Con. The Generations: War for Cybertron: Siege series starts out the discussion, with the initial roster of Decepticons being revealed at the show. Initial impressions and analysis of Voyager CLass figures such as Megatron, Soundwave, and Starscream, as well as Leader Class Shockwave and Deluxe Class Refraktor and Brunt are all shared. After a look at some of the other Generations product reveals such as Micromasters and the sneak peek at Titan Class Omega Supreme, the live action Bumblebee movie's full trailer is talked about along with the longer preview of the movie seen before the Fathom Events showing of The Transformers: The Movie. Along with trailer reactions and speculation on the Bumblebee Movie in general, the related toys get a short look with other new products being shown at NYCC. The crew then takes some time to look at the latest Cyberverse toys such as Warrior Class Prowl and Scout Class Ratchet before going back a few days in the news cycle to talk about Takara Tomy's upcoming Legends series Big Powered.

A few presumed it to be an exclusive item, and it turns out it is. A full case of this single item was found at a Toysrus in Singapore. We know it is an exclusive since it has an "imported by TRU" sticker in the back which, in Singapore, is used for their exclusives. This keeps an odd tradition of Thundercracker toys being exclusives, which we previously saw in the Studio Series line from Hasbro and in the Arms Micron line from Takara. Since there are no Toysrus stores in the US it is unknown how that toy will be made available in that country. While it is not the case yet for Transformers, there have been a few Hasbro exclusives for the Star Wars line that have only been made available at Toysrus stores elsewhere in the world with no distribution channel in the US. Transformers Studio Series Bumblebee Helmethttps://www.facebook.com/mytoymalaysia/photos/a.335783216621774/932290223637734/?type=3 Siege Wars Wave 1 Decepticons Over the last couple of weeks, store listings have been cropping up for the Transformers Siege line, with some interesting listings which confirm that yes, there will be some Decepticons in this line after their notable absence at SDCC 2018. Midtown Comics have now added listings for the first wave of Siege toys, which name the remainder of the first wave toys by confirming a Decepticon in every size class. There are no images yet – but we bet these will be officially revealed in early October at New York Comic Con 2018, if not a bit before.First off, there are the reveals that one could work out through educated guesswork. In the Micromaster size class, we have the Air Strike Patrol – who were also the only Decepticon patrol out of the original four Micromaster patrols in the original 1989 assortment. In the Battle Master size class, we have Targetmaster Blowpipe – partner to Generation 1 Triggerhappy, and doubtless destined to end up in the hands of Titans Return Triggerhappy toys everywhere. And in the Voyager size class, we have Megatron – because what is Optimus Prime without his age old rival? (Probably an Optimus Prime from one of those lines where Hasbro opted not to release Megatron, to be fair)The remaining two reveals are both major fist-pump in the air, “they’re finally making this guy!” class reveals. In the Deluxe class, we have Skytread. If you don’t know the name, don’t worry – it is what Hasbro renamed Flywheels to for Titans Return. So this suggests we are getting a Flywheels to go with this year’s Battletrap – and we’d go as far as to suggest with Cog’s gimmick of splitting into two vehicles for his transformation, we just might get a fully functional Duocon out of the bargain, although individual robot modes for the components might be unlikely at the pricepoint.Last, but by no means least. we have Shockwave. A leader class Shockwave, no less. We’d guess that he would go quite well with the other Leader class Decepticon leaders such as Combiner Wars Megatron and Starscream, and Titans Return Soundwave. We’re also betting his alternate mode will be some kind of spacecraft – possibly with wings that just happen to fold down so you can also make a “submarine” mode. The full lineup of Siege Wave 1 toys is as follows:Micromaster two-packs: Race Patrol, Battle Patrol, Air Strike PatrolBattle Masters: Firedrive (Firebolt), Lionizer, BlowpipeDeluxe: Cog, Hound, Sideswipe, Skytread (Flywheels)Voyager: Optimus Prime, MegatronLeader: Ultra Magnus, Shockwave   Custom Spotlight Tackling Tacky Plastichttps://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1255520/painted-minis-still-sticky-after-monthshelp Transformers Bumblebee Ironhide Ratchet Optimus Prime Grapple Inferno Combinerhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=By2l2HBtxzo KO KornerNB Masterpiece MP-12+ Sideswipe ANIME COLOR EDITIONPrice:USD $34.95Shipping Cost: $8.19Total $43.14!!https://tf-direct.com/nb-masterpiece-mp-12-sideswipe-anime-color-edition_p2452.html Bedbugs Bargin Bin: Asshole of the Week: Guest (The Thirteen Questions) - Paul ChiuWhat's your preferred name/handle?Year born? What's your favorite sammich?Favorite music? What got you (back) into collecting? What scale do you collect?Focus collection or any Non-TF collections? To KO or not to KO?What movie makes you cry?Have you done anything untoward for your toy addiction?Tits, ass, legs, face, other? What’s a weird thing about you? idiosyncrasies, phobias, etc.Go to sex position? Episode 204 of the Seibertron.com Twincast/Podcast breaks down all the latest from San Diego Comic Con 2018. The recently concluded convention featured a great deal of Transformers news, and the show starts with the cast taking a look at the Transformers Generations: War for Cybertron: Siege lineup from Hasbro, with new versions of classic characters such as Optimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, Ironhide, Sideswipe, and many more are coming soon. In a brief interlude, the Titan Class Power of the Primes Predaking is analyzed now that some of the podcasters have the toy in-hand. Moving on, the crew on-site at SDCC talks about their impressions of the newly seen material related to the upcoming live action Bumblebee movie from Paramount and director Travis Knight. The corresponding toys for that movie, as well as those from the upcoming Transformers Cyberverse television series, are next up in the discussion. After this, the brief hints of the future of IDW Publishing's Transformers comic books are discussed, with some reaction to their surprise announcement of a Gobots comic also on the agenda.

A college degree isn’t the only path to meaningful work. In fact, these days it seems like there are more kinds of credentials than ever, some new ones even have trademarked names like Nanodegrees and MicroMasters. One leading force in reinventing the credential is the Lumina Foundation, one of the largest foundations focused on higher education. The group has an ambitious goal to increase the number of Americans with some kind of high-quality credential. But what counts as high-quality? And how can students and employers sort through all the new options. To get at those issues, EdSurge recently sat down with Courtney Brown, the Lumina Foundation’s vice president for strategic impact. She laid out the group’s vision for the future of credentials, and talked about what the cartoon The Jetsons says about the future of education and the workplace.
