Shanel Evans doesn't just share her story — she lays bare the unspoken class dynamics and systemic barriers she faced climbing the corporate ladder. From her days as a finance director to building a six-figure business on her own terms, Shanel's journey is a powerful example of what happens when women challenge the norms of traditional workplaces. Her raw, honest take on navigating the intersections of gender, race, and leadership in male-dominated industries offers both a reality check and a call for change.Through Shanel's lens, we see how a startup environment became her proving ground, allowing her to lead with innovation, drive diversity initiatives, and build a nonprofit that thrived on strategies most people overlook. But the boldest move? Leaving a "safe" finance career to embrace her passion for marketing and entrepreneurship — right in the middle of a global pandemic. Shanel's leap wasn't just about changing careers; it was about claiming her time, energy, and purpose on her own terms. Her story reminds us that while entrepreneurship is far from easy, it can be the most liberating decision you'll ever make.In a business world addicted to hustle culture, Shanel is the antidote we didn't know we needed. Her anti-hustle philosophy flips the script on working harder by showing us how to work smarter. She calls out the toxic cycle of overworking, offering value-driven strategies that honor both your goals and your well-being. And when it comes to the pedestal mentality — whether you're the one putting people on it or stuck on one yourself — Shanel challenges us to dismantle those assumptions and open doors we didn't think were possible. This conversation is a bold reminder that women entrepreneurs aren't just changing their lives — they're reshaping the future of business itself.Guest Bio: Shanel Evans, founder of Socially Savvy and co-founder of FyreSavvy, is a seasoned Business Advisor and Marketing Consultant. 241: Influencers, celebs and mega coaches are often treated as mythical Gods. We act as if they're untouchable, immune to the suffering life brings, and operate with zero worries in the world. But when we put them on pedestals, we dehumanize them. In the same vein, we make ourselves small. The automatic comparison and projection prompts self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and keeps us stuck in a constant cycle of feeling inspired, then comparing, sabotaging or worse, staying stuck and never trying at all. In today's solo ep, Chelsea deep dives into this concept. Why do we put so much weight into social following? Why are we so quick to take IG photos as truth? Why don't we use more discernment when making snap judgments? She also shares ways to take people off of pedestals so you can finally get out there and shoot your shot. Pitch that host. The project's failure to address the engineering problems of the mountain ranges and the budget increase to $110 billion are emphasized. 00:44:44 - Monkeys and Pedestals Framework Annie introduces the "Monkeys and Pedestals" framework, which emphasizes tackling the hard problems first before building pedestals. The concept of pre-mortems and setting kill criteria to identify and address project challenges is explained. 00:50:55 - Behavior Change and Future Planning The importance of behavior change in addressing project challenges and the application of pre-mortems and setting kill criteria to identify crucial information are discussed. The importance of prioritizing crucial information and being smarter about project approach is emphasized. 00:54:54 - The Importance of Solving Hard Problems First Annie emphasizes the need to focus on solving the hard problem first before building pedestals. She highlights the concept of working on the greatest bike shed instead of the nuclear plant, as well as the law of triviality. 00:55:37 - The Pitfalls of Wasteful Thinking Annie discusses how people often fail to think ahead and waste time and resources on backward thinking. She emphasizes the importance of evaluating the worth of the next minute and dollar, shifting mindset from past to future. 00:56:24 - The Key to Success and Grit Annie explains that winners quit a lot, but they do it to focus on the right things. Grit is important, but only when applied to the right endeavors. She also touches on forced quitting and exploring new opportunities. 00:57:25 - The Importance of Flexibility and Agility Annie highlights the significance of being flexible and open to switching course if the current endeavor is not worthwhile. The Sound Chaser Progressive Rock Podcast is on the air. The show this time is a special review of albums that made the Official Progressive Albums Chart. I also have an In Memoriam feature to commemorate Moody Blues keyboardist Mike Pinder. All that, plus news of tours and releases on Sound Chaser. Official Charts is the company in the UK that keeps track of singles and album sales in the UK, the equivalent of Billboard in the US. In 2015, Official Charts started a new feature, the Progressive albums chart, which started as a monthly listing in September of that year. Charts cover a one-month period, listing the top 30 sellers in that category for that month. Because the charts simply rate according to sales, albums that make the charts include not only new music, but also reissues of old music. Thus, you will hear in the sample in this show a mix of the newer and older music. Also, I have not limited the selections to chart toppers, but have included music that peaked in different locations of the charts. Playlist1. Why should you not put your partner on a pedestal in a relationship? 1. Do you suddenly find yourself becoming the object of someone's unwanted affection? (Alternatively, are you someone who uses pedestalization as a substitute for authentic love?) Why do so many people put their partner on a pedestal in the beginning of a relationship only to mistreat them later? 2. How does your definition/vision of what it means to be loved contrast with the reality of how you have been “loved” by others in your relationships? Why do people in relationships with narcissists often put the narcissist on a pedestal? 3. What are three things that drive or influence your capacity and/or ability to love authentically? 4. Does being placed on someone's pedestal beckon an inevitable fall from their good graces? If so, is it possible to return to your previous height? What's the unconscious reason why we ‘put people on a pedestal'? 5. How does pedestalization function as a tool of avoidance, codependency and/or FEAGO? 6. How is your attachment style and/or primary love language shaped by the phenomenon of pedestalization? 1. In what ways does pedestalization in relationships hinder genuine emotional connection and intimacy?

There are numerous ways in which we relinquish our power, opting for the wisdom of others over our own. Have you ever found yourself thinking or feeling that someone else knows better than you? That they might understand what's best for you more than you do? You are the one inhabiting your body; you know it best, and it's crucial not to disregard your inner wisdom when it speaks to you.Even when seeking support, guidance, or help from a professional, it's important to recognize that you are not powerless. Our overwhelmed medical system has, in many ways, lost touch with the human element. We must reclaim our power, learn how to trust our intuition, and reconnect with our bodies. What is your body telling you? What do you know to be true? In what ways have you felt unheard? Identify what you need to improve your well-being and regain the help, support, and trust necessary. This dynamic isn't limited to doctor-patient relationships but extends to various aspects of our lives. Giving away our power was never the intended path. While each of us possesses unique qualities and characteristics, we are also inherently powerful. There are lots of things happening in leadership. The first is that a leadership relationship is not an equal footing relationship. It happens for a few reasons: First, the person generally leading you in a corporate environment usually occupies a higher position on a hierarchy. So there's a lack of equal footing based on that. But there's also a lack of equal footing in the energetics of a leader developing your leadership. Your job is to bring to your leader all the stuff that's not working so they can support you and help you create a breakthrough. When this relationship is structured, it is almost inevitable that you start to relate to the person above you as on a bit of a pedestal. Listen to how this relationship can be very dangerous for your own development and create a breakthrough. Enjoy the show!

It's been called "idealizing others" or "putting them on a pedastal". This is where a person perceives another to be much better than they are, including being perfect, being "the one", or having some kind of special meaning.  These are positive illusionsThis habit comes from the young parts of ourselves that idealized parents, peers, and authorities.  This happens as a way to try to create safety and comfort anxiety, as well as eliminate doubt or uncertainty the child doesn't know how to navigate.  In trauma bonding, this is doing excessively about a person's partner, creating massive illusions and disillusions in the relationship. This is how we learned to navigate the lack of safe people in our lives - we created illusions of them. This also leads us to giving them a lot of influence, power, and responsibility over us.  Often, we tend to look to people we've idealized for all the solutions and answers to our personal problems and challenges.  We look to be rescued.  And when they show up as the human being they are, we feel betrayed, dismayed, shocked, and disillusioned.Often, that person hasn't done anything actually harmful or abusive.  In one experience from my life, the person had said no to me.  And that shocked me deeply.  Another person turned out they didn't like what I did.  So, what do we do when this is happening?1) Recognize and acknowledge to yourself that you may be idealizing someone, especially if you make them out to be perfect, flawless, or ignore their humanity in some way2) Notice how your body feels around them.  Is there euphoria?  Do you feel swamped with admiration or affection?  Do you find yourself pushing away things that bother you or feel uncomfortable?  3) Notice what expectations you are putting on them.  Are you expecting them to act a certain way?  Are you imagining them being or doing things a certain way?4) Notice what fantasies are present.  Do this person bring you some kind of rescue?  Are they "the one" you've been looking for?  Are you finally going to get or have a specific result because they're in your life?5) Notice if you're seeing them as a human being with limits, challenges, and a life of their own.  Often in idealization, we do not acknowledge that the other person is literally just a human being like ourselves.  6) Begin to normalize the person by identifying with them as a fellow human being. See their limits.  Acknowledge things you may not like about them.  Acknowledge that they have no responsibility to your expectations or fantasies about them.  Start to visualize them as an equal to you.  You two are both human beings.  No more, no less.7) Process your feelings of disappointment or hurt with a therapist or qualified mentor.  This will help you to start seeing others and yourself more objectively and realistically. This starts the process of becoming more sober and connected with reality. Doing so empowers your ability to heal, to choose better relationships, and discover your own well-being and fulfillment.***The Annual Enrollment for the Codependency Healing System is OPEN.  We're accepting 75 individuals on this 9-month live training journey in nurturing and increasing our individual and communal safety, connection, and individual worth.Students will leave this journey knowing how to:- Create and nurture emotional safety, relationship safety, and physical safety- Identify and connect with compatible, safe, healthy people- Recognize, understand, trust, and follow their own voice- Identify, connect to, and embody their real worth- Recognize and embody their personal power- Heal their pain through reduction and resolution practices- Increase their confidence and worth

Hey this is Misty Phillip. You are listening to the Spark Influence podcast. We are winding down 2022, and I'm flying solo today. Typically this podcast is a conversation between my husband Peter and I about cultivating what matters in life when we follow the Lord, and live our life with intention in our marriage, with our family and in business and leadership. It is our heart that through these podcast messages we record for you that you will find a glimmer of hope in our stories, find a unique perspective. We want you to know there is freedom in living a counter cultural lifestyle that honors Christ permeates everything you do. We are not experts or gurus, although my husband is quite brilliant. We are just like you we are flawed, and in need of grace and mercy we fail and mess up, and need to seek repentance and forgiveness. We are fellow sojourners doing our best each day to shine the light of Christ in a broken world. We've been busy the past few weeks, preparing our home for the coming Christmas season as I'm sure many of you have been doing the same. Peter has been really busy with work so I've tried to pull back from some of my duties and responsibilities so that I can be more present as a wife and mom. I also wanted to take time to slow down, quiet myself, and focus on the true meaning of the season of Christmas and to prepare my heart for the return of Jesus Christ, my king. He is coming soon, and we need to be ready. Isaiah 53 Our Pastor recently taught from Isaiah 53 in this old, testament chapter, we clearly see the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. I want to read Isaiah 53:1-3 ESV to you. Then we'll look at what the Matthew Henry commentary says in response to these verses, and then I'll share some thoughts with you. "Who has believed what he has heard from us? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? 2For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him. 3He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not." - Isaiah 53:1-3 ESV Matthew Henry Commentary In response to these verses, Matthew Henry shares this. “No where in all the Old Testament is it so plainly and fully prophesied, that Christ ought to suffer, and then to enter into his glory, as in this chapter. But to this day few discern, or will acknowledge, that Divine power which goes with the word. The authentic and most important report of salvation for sinners, through the Son of God, is disregarded. The low condition he submitted to, and his appearance in the world, were not agreeable to the ideas the Jews had formed of the Messiah. It was expected that he should come in pomp; instead of that, he grew up as a plant, silently, and insensibly. He had nothing of the glory which one might have thought to meet with him. His whole life was not only humble as to outward condition, but also sorrowful. Being made sin for us, he underwent the sentence sin had exposed us to. Carnal hearts see nothing in the Lord Jesus to desire an interest in him. Alas! by how many is he still despised in his people, and rejected as to his doctrine and authority!” Divine Power in the Word There is divine power in the word of God and through the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, but so many people are missing it. My Response As I read through Isaiah 53 my first response was one of sadness and bewilderment that the Jewish Pharisees that would no doubt have this chapter memorized yet they completely missed the Messiah. But more than that this description struck a cord within me that I've had a hard time shaking. Verse 2, days “there is no beauty that we should desire him.” Verse 3, “He is despised and rejected, a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief.” As I read this passage, a question welled up in my spirit in regards to the American church. I quietly prayed. Lord, how do I reconcile the depiction of you in Isaiah 53, and the celebrity culture in our world and in our church? You were crushed for us, so why would we be lifted up for your name's sake? Celebrity Church Culture- What would Jesus think? In our celebrity-obsessed, American idol culture, worship and adoration is often directed toward influential or popular people. As leaders, and as people of influence we must guard ourselves against celebrity culture. We can't put any pastor, teacher, singer or celebrity on a pedestal. We need to guard our own hearts against pride and from becoming puffed up. We are all human beings living in a fallen world and we all face similar temptations. This is why scripture tells us to guard our hearts. Proverbs 4:23 ESV states, “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.” Pedestals and Platforms Putting people on pedestals is a problem of misplaced worship and one of posture and position. Who and what are we truly worshipping? Jesus is the only one who deserves our praise and adoration. He alone is worthy of worship. Nothing and no one can take his place. As I pondered all of this, I had another prayer in the form of a question. Lord, what do you think of the American church? We gather and we sing with the lights dimmed low, with smoke machines, and laser lighting and all the production of our worship. Does it please you, Lord? I wonder if we are missing the mark? Lord teach us your ways. In Psalms 19:14 ESV it says, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.” Lord, this is our prayer. That the things we say and do in our homes, at work and in our churches would be pleasing to you. Convict us of our sins, guide us and leads us so that our thoughts, words, and actions would honor you. As we decorate and celebrate this Christmas season, we are humbled by your love for us. That you would take on our sin and shame that we could be redeemed and restored. We humble ourselves before you Lord, because you alone are worthy to be praised. Give us eyes to see and ears to hear. Help us to share the gospel message with unbelievers, and to fill our hearts with peace, love, joy, kindness, and all the other fruits of the spirit. Revelation 5:9-14 ESV “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation,10 and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.” 11 Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, 12 saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain,to receive power and wealth and wisdom and mightand honor and glory and blessing!” 13 And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lambbe blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” 14 And the four living creatures said, “Amen!” and the elders fell down and worshiped. Jesus is coming soon. Are you ready?

Read more on the podcast blog and tune in for a conversation about the rollercoaster of entrepreneurship, internet culture, and what it's like to ask deeply profound questions of yourself and others. Influencers, celebs and mega coaches are often treated as mythical Gods. We think they're untouchable, immune to the suffering life brings, and have zero worries in the world. We think they don't deal with the “everyday” things we do — paying an extra $25 on DoorDash for a 14 inch pizza that costs $18 or feeling insecure when their crush ghosts them on Date 3. When we put them on pedestals, we dehumanize them. I really hope that this special 300th episode celebration will illuminate and remind you of the sacred gifts already within you, ready to be expressed. I brought in my dear friend, Rev. Frances Fayden, podcast host, author, and interfaith minister, to have a deeply honest and raw conversation about what it means to step into a greater mission of service, leadership, and influence. While my journey started with a commitment of doing one weekly episode for a year, I stayed the course because of the blessing to interview leading experts and prominent leaders who share their hearts, experience, lessons learned, and wisdom. It has been a gift to host this show, and I hope and pray that whatever episodes you've listened to have added expansion, upliftment, and greater possibility in your own life.     To Compare Is To Despair One of my greatest lessons has been to stop comparing myself to others and taking others off the pedestal, no matter how well known they might be. Pedestals are dangerous as they create a 'better than' mentality, and as you know with the You-est You concept, no one is better than another. Instead, some have planted their seeds earlier or at different times than you, and often we're seeing the finished byproduct that might have been planted years ago. Additionally, in interviewing a wide range of spiritual leaders and influencers, I've been reminded that the goal is not to be anyone else's version of your You-est You. Yet, rather it's to get inspired and moved by another's story, journey, and lessons learned to tap more deeply into your own authenticity. Pedestals don't belong in this journey of deeper self-exploration and self-compassion. I'm hoping that as you tune in, what's being reflected back to you is what's possible when you follow your greater vision and dream. That's why I think of you (and myself) as brave dreamers. It takes tremendous courage to express and become your You-est You. I'm grateful you're here and would love to hear how you're taking other people off pedestals so that you can see your own divinity staring right back in your very eyes. Rather than compare, get inspired and know whatever you're hearing is an example of what's possible.  Learning To Expand Your Visibility One of my biggest lessons over the 300 episodes I've recorded has been to let go of the fear of judgments, of what others might say about me, and about my own inner judgments, especially given so many episodes have treaded into territory that I might have shied away from in the past. I'm learning that the most important thing you can do is stay true and authentic to your own truth. To come from a place of unconditional compassion and heart and trust that it's safe to be more visible and share my thoughts. We naturally crave connection at a deep level, which is most potent when being vulnerable and willing to be seen. I share this with those who might struggle with visibility or fear of being seen in a larger way. If you know in your heart you're up to big things and here to be a change-maker, it's imperative to start shifting the way you see your own visibility. Ways to do that are through community, finding a great mentor, coach, or friend who is on a similar path and can hold you accountable to your bigger dream. That's the first secret on how to become an influencer. Impact Mentorship Program After two years of dreaming up how to make a bigger impact with entrepreneurial women who want to birth their vision, I have finally decided to put together the Impact Mentorship Program. It's an intimate group I will be mentoring that will help others who want to write that book, give a TEDx talk or start a podcast. I'll be sharing my lessons learned, wisdom, and support to guide heart-led women looking to shine brighter and get on the world stage so they can become influences as well. For more information about applying, go to juliereisler.com/you-me. Final Thoughts Learning how to become an influencer is partly seeing yourself through a lens of love and being able to use what you once may have seen as weaknesses as strengths. Another is feeling the fear and doing it anyway. To commit and show up no matter how scared you are or how few people you think are there for you, because if your message is being heard by one person, know that it will only grow from there.     Connect with Julie Reisler   Website: juliereisler.com Facebook: Julie Reisler Instagram: @juliereisler LinkedIn: Julie Reisler, MA, ACC Twitter: @JulieReisler     Looking To Help Others Know Who They Are and Design Their Best Life? Ever Better Podcast | Inspiring Stories | Motivating | Transition with Grace | Fulfillment | Wisdom

Who do you have on a pedestal and who might have you on a pedestal? Consider that putting that person or you being put up on a pedestal can be a bad thing. ----------------------------------------------- Welcome to Ever Better Today: the daily podcast for creating your optimal business, career, or overall life in ten minutes or less. I'm Lisa Conners Vogt, Executive and Leadership Coach and founder of Ever Better Coaching and Consulting. Let's jump in! ----------------------------------------------- When it is bad when you put someone up on a pedestal? You're limiting your interactions with them. You're limiting your relationships with them. You're missing out on a chance to connect with them. You're missing out on a chance to help them. You're missing out on a chance to get additional assistance from them.   When it is bad when someone puts you up on a pedestal? You feel that you're in a position where you might have to be super careful about everything you say around that person. You're making things up just to look cool or successful. You're no longer speaking or showing up with integrity.   NOTE that all of these feelings are your beliefs that can be changed at any time. ----------------------------------------------- So consider those things I have listed above, and consider the image of you up on a pedestal or you having someone else up on a pedestal. ----------------------------------------------- To learn more about working with Ever Better, send me an email here or book a complimentary call with me here.
