This week on the pod we discuss some of the weirder things that happen in Pretty Little Liars, both on and off screen. Tammin and Lindsey talk about the inappropriateness of the storylines in episode 22, specifically with the girls being photographed naked. They also share how awkward it is to on-screen kiss people that you have real chemistry with, and how you navigate that as actors and friends. Lindsey questions why the show ages itself by having the characters use Blackberries instead of iphones, and Tammin wonders if apps have ruined our lives. Finally, Joseph Scott Morgan finishes the episode by sharing the huge mistake killers make that can happen in seconds. Which character relationship did the PLL fans save? Why didn't Tammin have many friends on set?? Ashlin Couch, former roommate of the Idaho students killed, is speaking out. Couch transferred her lease at 1122 King Road to Xana Kernodle just six months before Kernodle, Ethan Chapin, Madison Mogen, and Kaylee Goncalves were slain in the home. Couch remembers getting an alert from the University and immediately reaching out to friends still in Moscow. Couch's last text to Mogen before learning of her death was “Are you OK?” Couch followed up in a group chat with friends, “Has anyone heard from Maddie?” Couch says the thought that the murders could have happened earlier is unsettling, commenting that ‘you never know how long someone is watching your house.' We also learn a friend of an officer working on the Bryan Kohberger murder investigation says Kohberger was very careful in the days before his arrest. The source says the cop followed Kohberger in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania, and observed him wearing plastic gloves while picking up groceries at a local Giant store. The cop also said that Kohberger's cellphone pings matched the movements of the victims for weeks before the murders. Suzanne Morphew's death has been ruled a homicide by undetermined means. The toxicology report shows several drugs found in her system at the time of her death: Butorphanol, a synthetic opioid pain-killer, Azaperone, a sedative commonly used as a tranquilizer for pigs and elephants, and medetomidine, a sedative that can decrease an animal's heart rate, commonly used by veterinarians. According to a 2021 affidavit, Barry Morphew admitted to police that he frequently used BAM and other tranquilizers to sedate deer to remove antlers for his hunting business. However, BAM is the commonly used abbreviation for Butophanol, Azaperaone, and Medetomidine. Azaperone is used as a sedative for Elephants, Rhinoceros, and Giraffes, while Medetomidine facilitates immobilization of large carnivores and great apes. Police say in the recovery of Susanne Morphew's body, her favorite tee-shirt was pulled from the location. And in the past few days, it's reported that husband Barry Morphew quietly slipped into an invite-only memorial for his murdered wife. Officers note that earlier that morning, Robinson's blue Honda Civic was found burning near 30th and Lisbon, 2 miles from her apartment. 5:30 PM April 2, Cudahy Police respond to a call along Lake Michigan. At Warnimont Park, a popular recreation area, a park goer reports finding a severed human leg. As the Kohberger defense team moves ahead with their trial preparations in hopes of moving the proceeding out of Latah County, they put together a research project. In that research project, they hired a polling company to survey area residents to ask questions about how much the residents may know about the murders. The company had reached around 400 residents before a concerned citizen recorded one of the survey phone calls and contacted the district attorney's office to complain. Prosecutors say the polling company was asking questions to plant negative opinions of Kohberger in potential jurors' minds in the hopes the calls would serve to prove that local people were prejudiced against Kohberger and that the trial should be moved to another county. Even though the body of Riley Strain has been found, authorities are no closer to releasing his cause of death. His body was found submerged, in the Cumberland River, eight miles downriver from where he was last seen. Strain still had on the white and black shirt he was last seen wearing, but his boots, pants, and wallet were missing. The initial autopsy report says no signs of foul play, but the family ordered a second, private autopsy, saying the absence of water in his lungs raises questions about whether or not Riley drowned. The family is also concerned Strain was found nearly nude, with just his watch and his shirt. Pictures the family has analyzed from the night he went missing show Strain had his wallet in the front pocket of his pants, and he was wearing Justins, a square nose-style Cowboy boot. On Tuesday November 7, Sam Haskell IV, hires a couple day laborers to take 3 bags of rocks to to the dump. The bags don't feel like rocks, they feel like meat. A block away from Haskell's home the men open a bag. Seeing a belly button, the men returned the bags and the money to Haskell who claims they saw Halloween props. The workers go to the police to tell their story, but end up having to call 911 from the parking lot of the police station. By the time cops get to Haskell's place to investigate, Haskell is gone and so are the supposed bags of body parts. An investigation starts. The next morning at 6:15 am a 911 call comes in from a homeless man who was dumpster diving when he finds a has headless body. The headless torso of a female identified after an autopsy, confirmed to be the wife of Sam Haskell IV. According to the autopsy report whoever did this "dismembered torso with a single sharp force injury at the base of the anterior neck. No fatal injuries were found on the torso. The report further states Haskell's "head, majority of the neck, and majority of all four extremities" as absent and the "amputation sites" as "remarkably smooth" which suggests a sharp power tool was likely used. One of the most shocking facts found in the autopsy report is that Mei Haskell may have been alive when her head was severed from her torso. According to the autopsy report "there was no definite indication that dismemberment occured antemortem." However, "the possibility that the head and neck removal was initiated prior to death cannot be entirely excluded." Two girls stab their best friend 19 times. Why? They wanted to appease the fictional horror character, Slender Man. Both girls serve time in a mental health facility. Anissa Weier was granted conditional release in September 2021. She was required to receive outpatient psychiatric treatment and subject to GPS monitoring – though the monitoring was waived in September of last year. Now a Wisconsin judge will now hear evidence in April to decide whether to release Morgan Geyser from the mental health facility where she's being held. The 21-year-old Geyser requested conditional release from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute from Waukesha County Circuit Judge Michael Bohren back in January. This is similar to a petition that Geyser filed in 2022 for conditional release, but withdrew two months later. In the latest petition filed Jan. 16, Geyser is asking Judge Michael O. Bohren to consider whether she is no longer a threat to herself or others — a decision that will be based on a new round of medical exams. The judge appointed three psychiatric experts — one on behalf of Geyser, one on behalf of prosecutors and the third as a court appointee — to examine her and produce reports on her current mental condition. Judge Bohren then set a hearing for April 10-11 to consider the reports and possibly rule on the release request. Julia Niswender's roommates are gone for the weekend, but then one stops by the apartment on Monday to pick up some things for class. She heads out without seeing or talking to Julia. The next day the roommate realizes she hasn't seen or talked to Julia in two days. The bedroom door is locked so she calls security at the apartment complex to check on her roommate. The guard shows up with police, and using a master key to open the door, walk into Julia Niswender's room. It appears as if a home invasion has taken place. Calling out for Julia and getting no reply, the officer walks toward the bathroom door, finding a pair of white latex gloves on the floor in front of the bathroom door. They are twisted and intertwined with each other. Opening the bathroom door, officers discover Julia's lifeless, nude body, face down submerged in the bathtub filled with water. Her hands are pulled behind her back, her feet are together, and her cell phone is found underneath her body. Niswender's clothes have been cut off, except for a sleeve, and are left on the bathroom floor. Niswender's room looks like it has been tossed. Clothes are all over the floor of the room, drawers are left open, contents from plastic organizer drawer have been dumped on the floor, the contents of Niswender's purse is dumped out onto her bed. A black-and-white zebra striped pillowcase is missing from a pillow, her keys to the apartment are missing from a lanyard, and police note that it looks like a home invasion took place, but wrapped Christmas presents, an iPod, computer, and tv are not taken from the room. The night her body is found, officers note how her mother is pacing back and forth at the police station, while her stepfather seems stoic as he sits in the lobby. The first of several red flags that led investigators to take a closer look at Jim Turnquist. Looking at Turnquist, the police ask for his laptop, he complies, they ask for a polygraph, he complies twice, and passes twice. Investigators consult with the FBI and are encouraged to take a good look at Turnquist. Turnquist is named a Person of Interest, and he is charged. Not in the death of Julia Niswender, but child pornography. There are 300,000 pictures on his laptop, 7 of which lead to charges of child porn. At trial experts testify the 7 photos are in temp folders and could have been pop up ads, and you can't even tell the age of the people in the pictures. Turnquist is acquitted of the child porn charges. The murder case of Julia Niswender turns cold.
