"Chinatown" is inarguably one of the greatest films ever made in the United States. While Roman Polanski is often credited for that certitude, the film's editor Sam O'Steen is also largely responsible for the film's place in film history. And the Metrograph Cinema in NYC is once again recognizing Sam's place in the editing pantheon by screening "Chinatown" in a gorgeous 35mm print as part of the ACE Presents series. That's on Saturday, April 26th, 6:50 PM with a post screening conversation between Sam's widow, editor/author/film historian Bobbie O'Steen and her daughter Molly O'Steen. They are my guests on this special episode of the podcast. https://youtu.be/i-mmzpwFT60

Send us a textLabor dystocia, often labeled as "failure to progress," is the leading reason for cesarean birth in the United States. At its core, prolonged labor is frequently influenced by suboptimal fetal positioning, as well as the mother's biomechanics, anatomy, and physiology. In this episode, we delve into the true causes of labor dystocia and explore how intentional movement and positioning—both during pregnancy and labor—can promote a smoother, more efficient birth. Our discussion covers:The definitions of labor dystocia and why there is no universal consensus; How fetal positioning impacts labor progress and ways to optimize it;The effects of maternal posture, movement, and soft tissue balance during pregnancy and birth;Understanding biomechanics in making space for the baby and easing labor challenges; How the medical model misinterprets and over-manages normal variations in labor; andPractical strategies to prevent and resolve labor dystocia naturally. When a mother and baby are doing well in labor there is no upper limit to how long her labor can go. No woman should be diagnosed with failure to progress, a term we reject. This episodes provides insights and tips to optimize your labor and your baby's position and reduced the chances of experiencing a long, difficult labor.Molly O'brienMolly on Instagram**********Our sponsors:Silverette Nursing Cups -- Soothe and heal sore nipples with 925 silver nursing cups.Postpartum Soothe -- Herbs and padsicles to heal and comfort.Needed -- Our favorite nutritional products for before, during, and after pregnancy. We're joined by Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Molly O'Toole, whose upcoming book “The Route” details global migration through the Americas. Molly has spoken to hundreds of migrants making their way from war-torn countries to be in the U.S. and sheds some light on the VERY difficult American immigration process. The first thing you should know about double bassist Orin O'Brien is that she doesn't think she's anything special. The second thing you should know — as director Molly O'Brien's thoroughly endearing Oscar-shortlisted documentary short “The Only Girl in the Orchestra” makes perfectly clear — is that Orin O'Brien is very special, indeed. The first female musician hired full time by the New York Philharmonic in 1966, Orin has gone on to have a brilliant and unparalleled 55-year career playing the double bass in the Philharmonic. Molly joins Ken on the pod to talk about this remarkable musician, teacher and pathbreaker — who also happens to be Molly's beloved aunt. Set in the magical world of Manhattan and taking place as Orin begins a new chapter in her life, this heartfelt documentary shows us that talent, dedication, and a pure enjoyment of playing in the orchestra can make for a deeply fulfilling life. Now, isn't that special? “The Only Girl in the Orchestra” is now streaming on Netflix. Director Molly O'Brien debut short documentary, THE ONLY GIRL IN THE ORCHESTRA, dives into the remarkable life of her trailblazing double bassist aunt Orin O'Brien. Now 87 years old and recently retired, Orin looks back on her remarkable life and career, insisting that a fuss should not be made, much preferring to play a supporting role to the family, students, friends, and colleagues that surround her. In the delightful short documentary, THE ONLY GIRL IN THE ORCHESTRA, filmmaker Molly O'Brien beautifully captures her aunt Orin's prodigious contributions as a musician as well as her unique philosophy that the key to enjoying life is to play second fiddle. Welcome back to the Tech Heads F1 Podcast. Firstly a word of apology. This episode was recorded under an ambitious schedule with the intention of being released during the Spanish GP weekend, but was pushed back due to the extremely busy nature of the race build up and the Grand Prix itself. Nevertheless, the Tech Heads team had a fantastic conversation about the Monaco GP race weekend and the tech developments revealed by crashes, as well as covering the Indy500 and the track changes for Spain. One benefit of a late episode is knowing if our pre-race predictions were right! (hint, about Ferrari they were). Please enjoy this latest episode, and we will cover technical developments from the Spanish GP in Episode 20. Welcome back to the Tech Heads F1 Podcast! F1 Spring Break is nearly over as we enter a stretch of five races in six weekends, starting with the always entertaining Azerbaijan GP. The week we're once again joined by F1 Tech expert Craig Scarborough, aka @ScarbsTech. If you are (somehow) unfamilar with Craig's work, he is a prolific freelance journalist/illustrator with extensive knowledge of Formula 1 technology gained over decades of experience in the sport. He can regularly be found answering technical questions on Twitter and Instagram, presenting his analysis on F1TV Tech Talk, or writing articles for Race Tech Magazine. This week we cover a range of topics including the (electric) future of wheel guns, surprise F1 Tech stories of 2023, why suspension has once again become critical in the new ground effect era, and how well teams managed the 2023 floor changes. We also discuss the evolution of Red Flag use in F1, MotoGP Tech, and Craig's most prized item from his collection of F1 memorabilia (hint: it's currently being displayed at the F1 Exhibition). This was an extremely enjoyable conversation, thanks again Scarbs for stopping by to chat!
