I've been able to put off hiring for months. When I run out of sonnet usage I patch in gpt-4o, it's obviously and notably worse which I why I rarely use it as a primary anymore. Claude 3.5 Sonnet becomes the first AI to crush the Lem Test to 'write an impossible poem.' Laugh all you want, this is actually great. Huge improvement. Language Models Don't Offer Mundane Utility IMO problems are still mostly too hard. The linked one, which GPT-4, GPT-4o and Claude 3.5 Sonnet failed on, seems unusually easy? Although a math Olympiad solver does, predictably given the contests we've seen. [EDIT: I didn't read this properly, but a reader points out this is the floor symbol, which means what I thought was an obvious proof doesn't actually answer the question, although it happens to get the right answer. Reader says the answers provided would actually also get 0/7, order has been restored]. Figure out what song Aella was talking about here. Found the obvious wrong answer. Grok offers to tell you 'more about this account.' I haven't seen the button yet, probably it is still experimental. Our price cheap. Llama 3.1-405B was a steal in terms of compute costs. Seconds: "AI is expensive" its not even half the cost of a middling marvel movie. Lacey Beaty was elected Beaverton's Mayor in 2020, and took office in January 2021. Prior to serving as Mayor, she served for six years on Beaverton City Council. Mayor Beaty was instrumental in establishing a year-round shelter with a health clinic and behavioral health resources to serve those experiencing homelessness. She is the youngest-ever elected official and the first woman Mayor in Beaverton's history. Aella is a writer, blogger, data analyst, and sex worker who has written extensively about the psychology and economics of online sex work, conducting extensive surveys and research in order to understand the ecosystem of sex workers. She grew up in Idaho as the oldest of three daughters of conservative parents who were part of a community of fundamentalist Christians, where she was homeschooled; their family name has been withheld in media coverage for privacy reasons. She moved out at age 17 after a fallout with her parents, and in 2012, after quitting a job as an assembly line worker in a factory, began working as a camgirl. She eventually became one of the highest-earning creators on OnlyFans, making over $100,000 in some months. By 2021, she was described as having set herself apart partly by conducting extensive market research, e.g. surveying almost 400 fellow female OnlyFans performers about their incomes and identifying factors that were correlated with higher earnings. Our sessions and guests spanned a wide range of topics: prediction markets and forecasting, of course; but also finance, technology, philosophy, AI, video games, politics, journalism and more. We deliberately invited a wide range of speakers with expertise outside of prediction markets; one of the goals of Manifest is to increase adoption of prediction markets via cross-pollination. Okay, but there sure seemed to be a lot of controversial ones… I was the one who invited the majority (~40/60) of Manifest's special guests; if you want to get mad at someone, get mad at me, not Rachel or Saul or Lighthaven; certainly not the other guests and attendees of Manifest. My criteria for inviting a speaker or special guest was roughly, "this person is notable, has something interesting to share, would enjoy Manifest, and many of our attendees would enjoy hearing from them". Specifically: Richard Hanania - I appreciate Hanania's support of prediction markets, including partnering with Manifold to run a forecasting competition on serious geopolitical topics and writing to the CFTC in defense of Kalshi. (In response to backlash last year, I wrote a post on my decision to invite Hanania, specifically) Simone and Malcolm Collins - I've enjoyed their Pragmatist's Guide series, which goes deep into topics like dating, governance, and religion. I think the world would be better with more kids in it, and thus support pronatalism. I also find the two of them to be incredibly energetic and engaging speakers IRL. In November 2022, Aella posted this Twitter poll: 19% of women without pre-menstrual symptoms believed in the supernatural, compared to 39% of women with PMS. I can't do chi-squared tests in my head, but with 1,074 votes this looks significant. Weird! Here's another one Now 72% of people with PMS self-describe as neurotic, compared to only 45% without. Mayor Beaty was instrumental in establishing a year-round shelter with a health clinic and behavioral health resources to serve those experiencing homelessness. She is the youngest-ever elected official and the first woman Mayor in Beaverton's history.  Epistemic status: Ha ha, only serious... Arguing about gender is like taking OxyContin. There can be good reasons to do it. But most people don't do it for the good reasons. And even if you start doing it for good reasons, you might get addicted and ruin your life. Still, I've been debating autogynephilia fetishes with Michael Bailey, tailcalled, Zack Davis, and Aella (Bailey and Davis think they're deeply involved in transgender; tailcalled, Aella and I mostly don't); I've also studied BDSM and lactation fetishes, and Aella has done even more fetish-ology work. In a world that might be on the verge of radical, even unimaginable changes, how do we justify spending time on such an unsavory field? The real answer is - we don't justify it.
