Tune in as Honer and Bruce (Drunk With Buds) drop by the program to discuss the Netflix series adaptation of The Sandman, the dark fantasy comic book by Neil Gaiman (Coraline, American Gods, Good Omens, The Graveyard Book). Its existential depth, the scrapped film adaptation that Gaiman himself had sabotaged, and the Audible version of The Sandman make up a few of the talking points on this episode. Developed by Neil Gaiman, David S. Goyer, and Allan Heinberg, The Sandman stars Tom Sturridge, Boyd Holbrook, Vivienne Acheampong, Patton Oswalt, David Thewlis, Jenna Coleman, Gwendoline Christie, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Ferdinand Kingsley, Kyo Ra, Sandra James-Young, Razane Jammal, Jill Winternitz, Danny Kirrane, Kerry Shale, Stephen Fry, Mason Alexander Park, Melissanthi Mahut, Arthur Darvill, Charles Dance, and Mark Hamill. The guys make their triumphant return to The Dreaming on the newest episode of Comics and Chronic to talk about Netflix's The Sandman. But first, they get into what they did on Halloween. When is the perfect scenario to wear the t-shirt of the Commies? How do we feel about Henry Cavill coming back as Superman? Is Henry Cavill the hottest nerd? How does the show change or update the comic? Do we agree with all the choices they made stylistically? How do we feel about the casting? Why do the British confuse Anthony? Did the lead actor do well as Morpheus? What were our favorite episodes? Was The Corinthian a good villain? Or would we prefer The Cuminthian? What stylistic choices could have been made to improve the show? Would the show have been better on HBO? Would we start sucking up in order to get Comics and Chronic produced by HBO? Would Dahmer kill Cody? Was there something missing from the show? Is our biggest complaint Netflix and its production studios? Could they turn The Sandman into a cinematic universe? Is the comic book better? And did Jake just put Neil Gaiman on Comics and Chronic's hitlist?! No, this isn't a dream (or even a nightmare): The Sandman, the iconic Vertigo comic book series created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Keith, and Mike Dringenberg, has finally been adapted for television. Paul, Arlo, and The Deli Counter of Justice co-creator Eric Sipple are all huge fans of the comics, and they use their familiarity with the Dreaming to dive deep into the first season of the Netflix TV show. The gang discusses the show's mostly spot-on casting, whether it captures Morpheus as well as Roderick Burgess did, how the filmmakers modernize some of the books' more outdated elements, and so very much more. Plus, a mini-review of Prey, the new Predator film directed by Dan Trachtenberg and starring Amber Midthunder.
