On the morning of September 26, 2003, 32-year-old Army veteran and father Eric Nelams stepped outside his Phenix City, Alabama home to head to work—just like he did every other day. Minutes later, he was gunned down in his own carport. Despite witnesses, potential suspects, and a possible motive, Eric's murder remains unsolved more than two decades later. In this episode, we explore the tragic and frustrating case of Eric Nelams—an honorably discharged veteran, a devoted father, and a man who was deeply loved by his family and community. We examine the suspicious circumstances surrounding his murder, including an alleged fraud scheme, questionable behavior from those closest to him, and early missteps by law enforcement that may have cost investigators valuable time and evidence. Eric's family, including his sister Cathy and mother Annie, have never stopped fighting for answers. From billboards and petitions to monthly emails to police, their pursuit of justice is as strong today as it was in 2003. *

Esquire Magazine was recently awarded a Pulitzer Prize for a factually bereft, emotionally driven editorial about the life and death of Bubba Copeland in which "right wing media" was blamed for his death. That "right wing media" of course was 1819 News. The Esquire article failed to tell the full story or any of the details of Copeland's sexually deviant extracurricular activities.  In October of 2023, a trusted source told 1819 News that the Pastor of First Baptist Church of Phenix City, who was also the Mayor of Smith Station, Ala., was leading a double life as an online trans pornstar. A very bizarre lead, indeed, but things  turned out to be far worse. Copeland wasn't just dressing up in his wife's clothes and taking pictures, he was a public figure posting homoerotic slasher fiction on public social media pages under an alter ego. He was creating memes encouraging children to transition their gender using pictures from children in the community. 1819 News published several articles exposing these things and it soon became a national story. The Lee County Sheriff's Office went to do a wellness check on Copeland, and as they turned their lights on to pull him over, he sped off, getting into a chase with law enforcement. When the chase ended, Copeland exited the car brandishing a pistol and pulled the trigger, ending his life. This was a tragic ending, but an ending that Copeland himself chose. Unfortunately, the national—and international—media blamed 1819 News, reporter Craig Monger, editor Jeff Poor, and CEO Bryan Dawson, all of whom were doxed by unhinged liberals posting their home addresses and family pictures online. The lunatics relentlessly attacked all 1819 News staff and their families, trying everything they could to cancel anyone associated with the organization. It didn't work; the fire only galvanized the team. 1819 News didn't lose a single donor or employee, and the adversity brought everyone together and made the organization stronger than ever. Upon Esquire posting the announcement of their Pulitzer Prize to Twitter/X, the post was immediately Community Noted with the following: "The article that was awarded a Pulitzer prize trivializes the fact that former mayor ‘Bubba' Copeland used photos of women and children to create transgender fetish content, and even wrote a sexual fantasy about murdering a woman in order to steal her identity." The comments section was even less forgiving. Esquire was "ratioed" as the kids say. Dawson brings on Craig Monger, the author of the original Bubba Copeland news stories that led to all this, to discuss the Pulitzer Prize and the details of the original reporting. They also discuss legislation that would have protected children from LGBTQ ideology in the classroom dying in the Senate and the overall obvious attempt by progressives to steal the hearts, minds, and souls of our children to fill their ranks and what we can do about it.

On Nov 1st, 2023, 1819 News published a story about a small town Alabama Mayor who was also a pastor. The story exposed that this elected official and Baptist preacher was leading a double life by posting sexual photos of him dressed in drag, as well as posting memes encouraging children to transition, and writing explicit homoerotic fiction stories. All of which were posted on public forums. After we published the story, we had many citizens in the area reach out to provide us with more information, including the fact that the children pictured on the transition memes were actual children from the community that he used without the parents permission and the memes appeared on porn sites. We were also made aware that one of the fiction stories written by Mayor Copeland was about killing an actual female Phenix City business owner with the intent of stealing her identity to have sex with her husband. In the early evening of Friday, Nov 3rd, 2023 Mayor Bubba Copeland took his life after being involved in a low speed pursuit with law enforcement that was attempting to stop him for a wellness check. Media outlets from across the nation proceeded to place blame on 1819 News for his death saying that 1819 News had no right to share those aspects of Mayor/Pastor Bubba Copeland's life. We stand 100% behind our decision to publish the stories and Jeff and Bryan breakdown why in this week's episode.

I talk about the atypical ATKID investigation, Williams' early life, the Phenix City connection to nearby Fort Benning, the porn connection, the infamous Soledad O'Brien interview, Mitch WerBell III, and the occult connection. The implications are very, very dark. Songs: portions of the Beyond the Black Rainbow soundtrack Paegan Love Song by Acid Bath

But long before high-profile crimes forced the clean-up, the city grew into an unlikely hotspot for all things illicit and illegal. Her head was missing and it appeared the remains were likely scattered by animals. She had been missing since April 2nd before she was found deceased. She was only 21 years old when she died, but her entire life had been troubled. According to her daughter Danica Hovey, she had her first child at 15 and was sexually abused as child.Theresa was born in California on October 18th, 1972. Her mother parents were Diane Pulaski and William Morris. Theresa was the middle child of three. She has an older brother named Kenneth and a younger sister named Melissa who recently passed away.Unfortunately, other than a tiny newspaper article in an Alabama newspaper article there is no information about Theresa. Theresa's story deserves to receive as much media coverage as anyone else's. And since her case has been mostly forgotten, it reduces the chances her killer will ever be arrested.Theresa was the mother of four children who lost their mother when they were young. So, none of them have any memories of spending Mother's Day with her or even celebrating birthdays, holidays or even sitting around the family dinner table having a nice dinner together. Unfortunately, someone took her life and has denied her children of creating any memories with her.For Theresa's story, I spoke to her daughter Danica Hovey. Keshia has been involved with the organization since its beginning and participated in a leg of the organization's first journey from Harlem to DC!If Run4AllWomen sounds familiar, it may because you've been hearing all about their Women Run The Vote 3.0 Virtual Relay supporting Black Voters Matter.  This iteration of the relay runs on the virtual map from Cuba, Alabama to Phenix City, Alabama. This event uses the Racery app, which allows participants to record intentional movement (think running, walking, biking, cooking, housework...) and learn historical facts from the Alabama Black Belt.  You still have a few days to sign up, so grab a group of 6 friends and register while listening to the podcast.Outside of discussing Keshia's involvement in Run4AllWomen, we also discussed how Keshia began combining movement with activism; her founding of Major Knox Adventures, an outdoor series that promotes radical joy of cycling and other outdoor activities while continuing to celebrate the legacies of Major Taylor, Kittie Knox, and countless lesser-known Black outdoor enthusiasts; and finding one's place in the activism space.Keshia is a wealth of knowledge and someone who takes action to make her community a better, more inclusive space. I really enjoyed getting to learn from her, and I hope you do as well.As always, thanks to Dan Hoffman for the soundtrack you hear.
