We are bracing for and expecting a significant uptick in divorce filings and have arranged for our entire office to be able to work remotely.” Fortunately, in today’s legal system, most things can be done electronically and digitally and virtually. Courts are allowing virtual appearances, depositions can be taken telephonically, and cases and motions can be filed electronically without a personal trip to the courthouse.

This week we've focused on how to get a family law job. Our podcasts have featured interviews with leading attorneys family law firms in Atlanta and Toronto. Today we move west to Memphis, Tennessee. Miles Mason is the founder of Miles Mason Family Law Group. Miles is licensed as an attorney, but he is also a CPA. I think that background gives him a different perspective on hiring. He comes at things from a different angle and even uses psychological testing. You'll learn a great deal from listening to Miles. Keep in mind that Miles, Lisa Gelman, and Randy Kessler each have their own unique perspective on hiring, but they agree more than they disagree. Be sure to listen carefully for the responses and behaviors they seek when they're screening candidates for positions in their firms. Give the employer what it wants, and you're more likely to get an offer. Be careful, however, not to give the employer so much of what it wants that you talk yourself into a position that really isn't right for you. Finding a place where you can grow and thrive is far more important than just latching onto the first job to come along. This week we’ve focused on how to get a family law job. You’ll learn a great deal from listening to Miles. It has always been hard to get a job practicing family law: the firms tend to be small, and hiring is infrequent. Today, with increasing numbers of graduates, layoffs, and the economy, it's even harder to find a position and secure the job. Today we start a series of four podcasts called How to Get a Job in Family Law. We've interviewed the decision makers in four different and diverse firms. You'll get the inside scoop on what happens behind the scenes. This series will help you get the job you really want. Employers will also find this series helpful. I learned a great deal from hearing about the approach to recruiting taken by a range of family law firms. These podcasts will give you some insights into how some excellent firms are finding and hiring excellent candidates. The first interview is with Randy Kessler. Kessler is Chair-Elect of the American Bar Association's Family Law Section and is a regular on national news programs. He is one of the founders of Kessler, Schwarz & Solomiany, PC in Atlanta. Kessler goes above and beyond in advising attorneys seeking family law positions and really gives us the insider perspective.
