Hi there! It's season two now! Have you ever wondered what makes a "good fire" different from a "bad fire"? ME TOO. How about these: Which ecosystem needs fire more frequently--oak woodland or chaparral? What happens to animals during and after a wildfire? Are there any plants or animals with truly insane relationships with fire? (I'm going to spoil that one right now. Yes. Yes, there are.) Join me and biologist, illustrator, and author Robin Lee Carlson as we hike Stebbins Cold Canyon, a UC Natural Reserve that's burned not once but TWICE in the past ten years. Robin spent years observing and documenting this place after both fires, eventually turning her sketches and observations into a beautiful book called The Cold Canyon Fire Journals. Listen to find out about fire-following beetles, foaming newts, the tragic lives of wood rats, flowers that ONLY bloom after fires, and so much more, including how Robin's whole perspective on fire changed after witnessing the abundance of life that follows the inferno. #352. Robin Lee Graham made history when he left California in 1965, at the age of sixteen, to sail around the world alone on Dove. He met his wife Patti on this epic journey, which he completed in 1970. The voyage was followed by a flurry of media and a difficult return to life ashore. The Graham's moved to Montana soon after the circumnavigation, where they built a life with their two kids, Quimby and Ben. Robin and Patti still live on Flathead Lake, where their close-knit family gathers often. Robin wrote three books with the help of Derek Gill: Dove, The Boy Who Sailed Around the World Alone, and Home is the Sailor. Dove was adapted into a Hollywood movie in 1974. Emma's mother, Lynn, sailed across the Atlantic in 1978, when she was twelve years old. Lynn had the first edition of The Boy Who Sailed Around the World Alone on the shelf beside her bunk, and spent their 26 day passage from Maine to Ireland flipping through its pages. Emma grew up with that same copy on her shelf, which sparked her trajectory towards sailing. In February 2022, 50 years after Robin's circumnavigation, Emma traveled up to Montana to interview Robin in person, in the house he built on Flathead Lake. The two sailors talked about Robin's early sailing days, his relationship with his father, his faith, and how he and Patti have built their life. -- Join the conversation on The Quarterdeck, 59º North's 'deep dives on the art of seamanship.' In this episode, we examine the death penalty for women in Idaho, go over Robin Lee Row's case, and take a look at what the death penalty would look like if Lori received it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Lee_Row?fbclid=IwAR2fazts3926ZQ5AhqMP3QXn3DvB9TiwepjdUYcfdNMNtZl5FvqHnCJk4o0 https://web.archive.org/web/20150313165600/http://www.ktvb.com/story/news/local/2014/06/28/11692751/ https://murderpedia.org/female.R/r/row-robin-lee.htm?fbclid=IwAR2m7NWXGRtB-JSBntN23xtP-XSTxzyezaMGMnRCki5Oo8naXi2Md6colco https://www.idoc.idaho.gov/content/prisons/death_row Racial Injustice- Vincent Simmons is free. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/vincent-simmons-louisiana-attempted-rape-conviction/?fbclid=IwAR0LFBJsPz9Jq4ti3NZxOCliW4Sr1hmmY2eqONSFPeMACLb16SOPcRksIY4 Paranormal Crime- Ghost mom saves her baby. https://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/mysterious-voice-leads-police-baby-car-crash-article-1.2142732?fbclid=IwAR3wPc48w4pUfz_4d37C8KErDWFxHavzaxvxPUtixMA3P1jRP9f9FYJ-jQw SUBSCRIBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCd85RJRW6kn51aM2un6ButA/featured *Social Media Links* Facebook: www.facebook.com/truecrimeparanormalTPS Facebook Discussion Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/215774426330767 Website: https://www.truecrimeparanormalpodcast.com/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@truecrimeparanormal Our Latest Video: https://youtu.be/33shsbTNcPw Check Out Some of Our Previous Uploads! Damn Yankees is the debut album from the supergroup of the same name. Damn Yankees features Tommy Shaw of Styx on guitars and vocals, Jack Blades from Night Ranger is on bass and vocals, Ted Nugent is on guitars and vocals, and Michael Cartellone is on percussion and vocals. Cartellone was a relative unknown musician at the time, but he is now playing drums for the band Lynyrd Skynyrd. A&R's John Kalodner is credited with getting the band together. At the time Shaw was in and out of Styx, Blades was available after Night Ranger dissolved, and Nugent was in a lull in his solo work. Nugent and Shaw were the first brought together, and this might seem like an unusual pairing given their previous work. However the two bonded very quickly over their appreciation for R&B, soul, and Motown music. Blades and Shaw took the lion's share of lead vocal duties on this album, and the pair complemented each other. Both had extensive experience harmonizing with others in their previous bands, and this carried over to Damn Yankees.Their debut album would be successful, led by the rock ballad "High Enough" which would hit number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. A second album would be released in 1992 which would be less successful than the first. After this second album Nugent would concentrate on his solo work. Tommy Shaw and Jack Blades would produce a couple of albums under the name Shaw Blades, but would soon return to their respective groups (Shaw to Styx, Blades to Night Ranger). Guest contributor John Lynch joins us for this podcast. Damn YankeesThis is the title song off the album, and a deeper cut. You get a lot of Ted Nugent's guitar work on this one. All songs were a collaborative effort, with Blades, Shaw, and Nugent receiving writing credits. Coming of AgeAccording to Songfacts, Tommy Shaw began plunking out the opening riff on piano when the group was working at Jack Blades House. Blades came up with the opening lines of lyrics, and the group moved to guitars to jam out the rest organically. Blades takes lead vocal duties here, with Shaw providing high harmonies.RunawayThis song is somewhat of a deeper cut, as it was the fourth single from the album. It is, as the name suggests, a song about a young runaway who lives on the streets of the city. It hit number 9 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, but did not make the Billboard Hot 100. Come AgainTommy Shaw takes lead vocal duties on this song, and it has a sound reminiscent of some of this work with Styx. It is about about a girl to whom the guy can't seem to leave behind.. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Theme from the television series "Mission Impossible"The television series reboot inspired by the Tom Cruise movies ended in February 1990. STAFF PICKS:Kickstart My Heart by Motley CrueWayne kickstarts the staff picks with The Crue off the album "Dr. Feelgood." This song was supposedly inspired by an incident when Nikki Sixx overdosed, and the paramedic injected adrenaline into his heart. This metal song made it to number 27 on the pop charts. Dangerous by RoxetteJohn features Swedish duo Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle. Both Fredriksson and Gessle were successful solo artists before coming together to join Roxette. The group toured until 2016 when Fredriksson was diagnosed with brain cancer. She passed in 2019.Black Velvet by Alannah Myles"Mississippi in the middle of a dry spell. Jimmy Rogers on the Victrola up high." Rob's staff pick is a sultry blues number with a shuffle beat. Songwriters Christopher Ward and David Tyson wrote this in homage to Elvis Presley. Myles' single came out in December 1989, and Robin Lee's country cover appeared shortly thereafter.I Wish It Would Rain Down by Phil CollinsBruce's staff pick is a ballad from Collin's 1989 album "...But Seriously". Eric Clapton plays lead guitar. The song is about a lost relationship, though Collins said in an interview that it "is about a frustrated weatherman that regularly predicts rain showers but never gets it right." We'll let you be the judge on the accuracy of that interpretation. INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Cliffs of Dover by Eric JohnsonGuitar virtuoso Eric Johnson takes us out with his big instrumental hit which was on the charts at the time, and would become even more famous on the video game Guitar Hero.

In the early morning of February 10, 1992, Robin Lee Row's two-story duplex in Boise, Idaho, was engulfed in flames. Robin wasn't home that morning. She had spent the night at a friend's house after a fight with her husband, Randy Row. But at 3am, Robin had a premonition of the fire. She woke her friend at 5:30 am and they drove together to the duplex to check on Robin's children. Joshua, 10-years-old, Tabitha, 8-years-old, and their step-father Randy all died in the fire. Initially, there was an outpouring of compassion for Robin, a grieving woman who had lost her entire family overnight. But Robin was not who she appeared to be. Her behavior after the tragedy along with fire-investigators' suspicions about the fire led the police to look into Robin's past. After a bit of digging, they would discover that Robin had lived a lifetime of deceit, fraud, and, quite possibly, murder. Join us at the quiet end for Burning Down the House. The deaths of her family members in the 1992 fire were not the only suspicious deaths found in Robin's past. Information began to trickle in from acquaintances and co-workers about her web of lies and her cold-heartedness. Her closest friend was her most ardent supporter, until she, too, discovered the true Robin.
