Charts and signals indicate a strong possibility that new all-time highs are coming our way. Nasdaq has strong support below, little to no resistance above, and is still upside on the fear/greed index. Last week's pick of Meta and Applovin gave good results, but will this week's picks yield as good? This and much more in this week's "Trading Tips With Jim".

#679: Growing a brand by focusing on the details that matter with Dominic Minogue, Dirty Water

There are a lot of great ideas for products and brands out there, but sometimes the difference between success and failure lies in getting the details right and understanding the customers and users of your product. Today we're going to talk about growing a brand by focusing on the details that matter. To help me discuss this topic, I'd like to welcome Dominic Minogue, CEO of Dirty Water, the world's first session hard seltzer, and a brand that started in New York City and has quickly grown well beyond, with some phenomenal and awards to match. About Dominic MinogueDominic Minogue is the founder and CEO of Dirty Water, the world's first session hard seltzer that's making the beverage industry dangerously refreshing. Dubbed “The Dive Bar Hard Seltzer," Dirty Water offers a crushable experience that's not too sweet and not too carbonated with 4.5% ABV, 0 sugar, 0 carbs and only 90 calories. As a lover of light beer and hard seltzer, Dom wanted to create a beverage that encapsulated the best of both while leaving the rest behind. A great light beer is unobtrusive, crisp and smooth with no frills and no worries about what to get because it's the same every time. A great hard seltzer offers a healthier choice with less calories, carbs and sugar along with no gluten, however the fruity flavors almost always present a scenario of digging around to avoid an unfavorable flavor or two. In comes Dirty Water - born a hard seltzer, but identifies as a light beer. One flavor, not too sweet, not too carbonated and just perfect for any occasion. Prior to launching Dirty Water in 2024, Dom held various positions within the mobile gaming industry that also centered around the values of community and connection. Most recently, he was VP of Game Operations at Rewardify, a mobile games app that rewards players for their love of the game through cash prizes, where he standardized the company's cash-economy and developed publishing models. He also led product marketing for Applovin's Lion Studios where he achieved 2.5B downloads worldwide, tested over 1000 games and brought 30+ games to #1 on iOS and Android stores. In addition, Dom is a food enthusiast and creator with 180K+ followers on TikTok at @dommelier where he gives quick recipes and how-to's for preparing different cuisines from around the world. How do you market a non-alcoholic, elderflower, THC beverage?  If it sounds like a lot, it's because it kind of is: Nik's got Aaron from BRÉZ on this week's episode to talk about creativity, positioning, and advertising in a broad space like the beverage industry. You might have a creative product, but how do you get it to stand out when people may not be familiar with THC products? Aaron explains how the brand tackles this and what problem they're aiming to solve in the space.  And, how do you advertise a THC drink on platforms like TikTok and Meta when there's restrictions on cannabis products? The answer might lie with AppLovin, or even using creative language to get around certain words.  Plus, Aaron mentions not playing the price game—how you price products has an effect on branding. Why should THC beverages think about avoiding “cheap” pricing? BRÉZ is about having a good experience, and the price should reflect that.  Prescient AI is the world's smartest marketing decision engine, powered by the most dynamic MMM. In this week's episode of The Refresh, Kait from Marketecture dives into a chaotic mix of acquisition rumors, ad fraud allegations, new tech rollouts, and a shift in how advertisers think about data and identity. From TikTok's uncertain future to Spotify's programmatic power play, here's what went down. This week's highlights: TikTok's next owner? – Amazon, Applovin, and even a Trump-backed billionaire consortium are in the mix. Applovin's algorithmic advantage and Amazon's ecomm ambitions make them viable contenders—but antitrust and politics muddy the waters. No matter who ends up with TikTok, creators and advertisers should brace for disruption. Analytics vs. Verification Vendors (Again) – A new 240-page report alleges IAS, DoubleVerify, and HUMAN failed to block millions of ad impressions from known bots. The vendors clapped back, calling the findings flawed and unsubstantiated. Meanwhile, Analytics continues to expose weak points in media quality across the ecosystem, even if some argue the system is working “as designed.” Spotify launches the Spotify Ad Exchange (SAX) – The long-anticipated exchange is here, giving advertisers more control over targeting, measurement, and creative—plus the ability to generate AI-powered audio on-platform. It's a clear move to democratize access and tap into the growing SMB market. WPP acquires InfoSum – WPP is going all in on federated data collaboration and AI-based targeting. With cookies fading and identifiers under scrutiny, the future of audience segmentation may lie in machine learning models and predictive behaviors—not user IDs. Learn more about your ad choices.
