Episode notesWhat distinguishes runners from other athletes who do not run? Have you ever wondered if they'd have different stamina or if they'd do the same thing? Tune in now as coaches Valerie and Caroline discuss what factors play a part in running and what steps you can take to improve your running ability.Timestamps of big takeaways[01:05] You've undoubtedly run a lot if you're playing a game like soccer, football, or any sport. The Misconception[02:37] There is a widespread misconception that endurance running is distinct from sports running and sprinting and that the two are classified separately. As a result, soccer players, football players, and even volleyball players engage in plyometrics and quick-footed workouts. So they're learning, which is terrific, but they're also learning to pull their feet, these quick feet, which makes them feel that they should change their running style when they're supposed to run distance.[03:29] During the push, endurance athletes are encouraged to run with the region, emphasizing reach. They are also not introduced to running drills, which are utilized in all sports, because there is no widely accepted way of running. Maybe they'll tell people to do some Striders, as they're called in endurance running. They place a greater focus on good running techniques, including stretching.Non-running Athletes[04:21] Non-running athletes can be coached in two ways: Begin by instructing them on proper running technique. The endurance athlete is primarily a reacher because their sprinters, football players, and soccer players all have hamstring issues. They do both at times, but their primary focus is on reaching.[05:12] They're most likely dropping towards the ball's direction across the field. However, there is still a lot of pushing going on. So, first and foremost, we must educate him on the distinction between pushing and pulling. We'll start with short distances so that running will be pretty stilted at first. We increased his interval time once he developed that tugging sensation, and, of course, he already had a fall but was using it selectively, such as while running downfield.[06:00] In the next episode, we'll talk about the best drill.Rate, Review & Subscribe ReminderDon't forget to like and subscribe to our show. Striders, today's Wise Walk is a bit more mellow as I'm still dealing with some lingering upper respiratory inflammation from the holiday chaos and unexpected challenges like the environmental effects of a new roof. As I've been slowing down, resting and prioritizing self-care, life has brought me face to face with another kind of weight: grief. From the loss felt by loved ones who have lost those they love to the changes brought by divorce, aging and changes in our abilities, these moments remind us how deeply love and loss are connected. On this Wise Walk, let's pause to explore the connection between love and grief and how acknowledging this duality can bring us closer to healing and understanding. Join me as we take a moment to reflect, recharge and honor these feelings together. What emotions are surfacing for you as the holidays bring comparisons to past celebrations or moments of loss? Where in your life are you noticing elements of grief, pain, or loss? Do you want to use this Wise Walk to draw awareness to your grief and explore ways to heal or reframe it? How can you hold grief as a sacred acknowledgment of the love you once felt and cherished? Instead of suppressing pain or sadness, can you acknowledge grief in a healthy way that brings peace? How might you choose to understand grief differently or allow it to support your growth? How do you want to spend time acknowledging the grief and love present in your life? What supports you when you experience loss, pain, or grief? What helps you connect with those emotions in a space of love and acknowledgment? How do you create sacred space to feel your emotions without judgment? How do you help those around you manage their emotions with curiosity and appreciation? How can we foster understanding and acceptance so others don't feel judged or rushed? How can we grow stronger together through love and shared support? As we wrap up today's episode, my hope for you is that you're surrounded by big, powerful, loving emotions. May any grief you've experienced feel distant or serve as a gentle reminder of the strength and impact of the love you've given and received. I'd love to hear your takeaways from today's Wise Walk and how you create space for both love and grief in your life. As always, I'm looking forward to our next journey together. A new year is just around the corner, and I'm excited about what we can co-create in the days ahead.   In this episode: [07:08] I love it when you're in the mindset of trying to understand and experience what you're feeling. I've been trying to understand grief and loss and how hard it is to know what to say. [08:02] Joe Van Niekerk posted about how grief isn't something you get over or move on with. Pain isn't weakness. Heartache doesn't mean we're broken. [10:10] I've been encouraging myself to feel loss in a way that encourages the love that I have. [11:01] Is there a way to surrender the judgment, shame, and negative mindset around grief and loss? [12:41] Can you be a supportive presence for someone you know who's experiencing grief for loss? [13:59] I was shocked and saddened by some of the losses my circle of loved ones have experienced. [15:50] It's a delicate balance to feel what we feel and not fall apart while possibly reframing our grief. [17:45] My big takeaway from our Wise Walk today is just this idea of love is ever-evolving, as is grief. And holding sacred space, we can grow stronger and evolve in ways that are just more aligned for us and for all of those around us.   Memorable Quotes: “I love this idea of not looking at grief or pain or suffering or heartache in this negative context, but kind of reframing it to say that we are experiencing those things because we loved so much.” - Mary Tess “I wouldn't be sad from the emotions if I wasn't so invested in the love that I shared.” - Mary Tess “The contrast we experience is also a great reminder to cherish those moments, to cherish those humans that have touched us.” - Mary Tess   Links and Resources: Mary Tess Rooney Email Facebook | LinkedIn | Twitter | Instagram Heart Value

True Stride

This is a monumental milestone—episode 200 of the True Stride podcast! Can you believe it? Two hundred episodes of taking wise walks on this path together, sharing stories, insights, and personal growth.  When this journey began, I was in a period of major life transition, having left corporate America and embarking on the adventure of writing my book, Heart Value. In planning to publish a book, I received feedback to voice my message and beliefs in a more public and accessible way. Thus, this podcast was born. In the early days, I had no idea how long I'd keep the podcast going. I started with the intention to feel my way forward. And here we are, four years later, still walking together. Through these episodes, I've embraced this theme of going with the flow and stepping into a more aligned, self-guided journey.  It's been a blessing to connect with you, to receive your feedback, and to hear how you are making positive changes in your lives. As we reflect on the past four years, I invite you to ponder: How have you evolved? What are you most proud of? What new practices or beliefs have you adopted?  Your stories of career transitions, setting healthy boundaries in relationships, and practicing self-love have been a source of joy and inspiration for me. We've shared in each other's struggles and triumphs, and I am deeply grateful for your vulnerability and trust. As I look ahead, I see no end in sight for the True Stride podcast. We will continue to feel our way forward, giving ourselves permission to reinvent and align with our highest selves at every juncture. So, as we embark on our 200th Wise Walk, let's celebrate our journey, our growth, and the beautiful connections we've made.  Thank you for being part of this incredible path. Please share your thoughts on what has been most meaningful, surprising, and what you are most proud of. Until next time, Striders, prioritize fun as you read the signs, direct your path, and get your stride on! As you reflect back on the past four years that we've been on this journey together, how have you evolved? What are you most proud of? What's something that stands out to you, a new muscle or a new belief or new self-love practice that you incorporate now? How does that make you feel? As you think about all of the Wise Walks that we've gone on together, what has been surprising to you? What's something you took away that you didn't even know you needed at the time?  What has been illuminated that has become meaningful to you? As you reflect back on your 200 episodes or the past four years, how have you evolved as a human? What crossroads or unique paths that presented themselves made you pivot?  What made you reinvent yourself? Are you enjoying that new version of you as much as I am? Are you giving yourself the freedom to choose again? Are you loving who you were exactly as you were back then, because you needed to be that person to get to where you are today? As you look back and you appreciate where you are, are you doing it from this mindset of self-love and self-appreciation for who you are at all phases of your life and who you are stepping into more and more with each Wise Walk that you take with yourself? Join this inspiring community to uncover a new sense of freedom, and be sure to follow and review the True Stride podcast as we continue to exchange our light and Heart Value with each other.   In this episode: [00:29] - Mary Tess expresses surprise at reaching 200 episodes, reflecting on the uncertainty and growth experienced since the podcast began. [01:08] - Mary Tess discusses leaving corporate America in 2018 and the transition period that followed, including writing her book, Heart Value. [03:23] - The concept of "feeling my way forward" is introduced, highlighting the shift from structured goals to a more intuitive approach. [04:18] - Reflecting on the past four years, Mary Tess invites listeners to think about their own evolution and the practices they've adopted. [06:03] - Stories from listeners about career transitions and setting healthy boundaries are shared, showcasing the impact of the podcast. [09:12] - Mary Tess acknowledges the challenges faced, including COVID-19, and the resilience of the podcast community in continuing despite these obstacles. [11:26] - Emphasis on the freedom to reinvent oneself at every juncture and the importance of self-love and self-appreciation. [14:06] - Mary Tess reflects on her move to St. Augustine, Florida, and how it has been pivotal for her personal and professional growth. [16:02] - Being surrounded by love, because at the end of the day that's what really matters.   Memorable Quotes: “Thank you for showing me what I'm capable of, showing me that I love this connection with you so much that I kept coming back. Regardless of what happened, I knew that we would continue to get stronger.” - Mary Tess “We've faced many challenges together, from personal losses to the global pandemic, yet we never missed an episode. This unwavering commitment to each other is a testament to the strength of our community.” - Mary Tess “One of the super cool things about continuing to feel our way forward is that we're giving ourselves permission to choose again and reinvent ourselves at every juncture, in every crossroads, in every unexpected delay or path” - Mary Tess   Links and Resources: Mary Tess Rooney Email Facebook | LinkedIn | Twitter | Instagram Heart Value

Where in our lives can we move into an energy of acceptance vs expectation? Honestly, every experience starts with some expectation and idea of what we think will unfold. That can cause disappointment if we don't know how to honor what's happening. This episode talks about how to honor your experience. I've been thinking a lot lately about our ability to honor our experiences. To me, honoring our experience means to stay present in each moment and see what's possible when we engage in our individual and collective experiences. We don't have to grasp onto expectations so rigidly. I'm here to spend quality solo time with you for EP173's Wise Walk as we discover our True Stride. I'm realizing that having a rigid expectation can prevent us from really honoring what's in front of us. Your emotions do well on educating you on what experiences you want to create more of or eliminate in your life. That can be our guiding light. On our Wise Walk, I talk about how to honor your experience. Honor the experience as it is and give yourself the permission to enjoy the experience. Come with me as we reflect on these Wise Walk questions: Where in your life do you find yourself already thinking, planning, or rehearsing a conversation ahead of time? As you think about the future, are there times where you are disappointed that the moment doesn't play out how you envisioned? How can you embrace a habit of not creating that cycle in your life? Drop into your heart a little bit more. This way you can honor all your experiences in the most unique and special way possible. Hold space for the possibilities living within each experience. Loosen your grasp with these Wise Walk questions: Can you think of an example where your experience was completely different from how someone else saw it? Did your different perspectives push you apart or bring you closer together as you shared the moment? During that moment, did you hold space for the moment with less rigid expectations? How often in life are you completely honest with your experience? As you prepare yourself for an experience, do you know why you're pursuing this experience? Can you honor the individual experiences happening around you without losing your own? Can you allow and accept without judging? Join this inspiring community to uncover a new sense of freedom, and be sure to follow and review the True Stride podcast as we continue to exchange our light and Heart Value with each other.   In this episode: [00:23] - Welcome to the show! Some things cannot be replicated or faked; like the supportive bond we have within the Striders community. While on our individual journeys we still wish each other well and support one another when we have the capacity. This episode talks about being partners in growth. There are so many things that I have grown to cherish about our time together. Each and every Thursday, we go on these Wise Walks, reflect, take time for ourselves, slow down, and check our reality. Then every once in a while, I also have the benefit of hearing from YOU. It's usually an email, DM, or phone call that opens these magical conversations that happen after an episode airs. I'm here to spend quality solo time with you for EP160's Wise Walk as we discover our True Stride. What continues to delight and surprise me is that your comments, suggestions, “aha” moments, and reflections are always from the heart. It's always meaningful to me because your perspective just gives back that awareness and growth on whatever we discussed for that episode. On our Wise Walk, I talk about recognizing each other as partners in growth. I'm grateful to you for being vulnerable and sharing what came up for you during our Wise Walks. Come with me as we reflect on these Wise Walk questions: What type of growth are you seeking right now for yourself? What ways can you honor the growth that you seek in this present moment? If you don't know what growth you're seeking, can you think about what has changed or evolved for you as we've gone on our Wise Walks with fellow Striders? Where has your evolution of growth brought you to? Do you have a vision of what kind of growth you seek for your future? How can you be intentional about honoring and supporting your growth? Let's continue to hold a sacred space for each other where we can ask important questions. It allows us to be present with ourselves and see what honest answers come up. I truly cherish you, my fellow Strider, as a partner in growth. Move towards growth with these Wise Walk questions: Who are your partners in growth? Who are the people that are rallying around you as you step outside your comfort zone? Are you being present with your growth partners in the ups, downs, and everything in between? Naturally, you could feel that having a direct path to your goals would be nice, but what about the times it's not? Most people don't mind taking the long way if it means fulfilling the end goal. Is there a goal in your life that's worth a longer journey? This episode talks about finding what's detour worthy. Good news: I'm home from the hospital! There were a couple rough days. I encountered a few challenges where I needed to self-advocate in the middle of trying to focus on recovering. We may go on a Wise Walk about that topic later, but what's on my mind today is the power of detours when we choose to take them. I'm here to spend quality solo time with you for EP159's Wise Walk as we discover our True Stride. Choosing a detour could be the best option for you when you realize it supports your overall well-being. There really are times where a detour is what you need, so the actual concern is about knowing which detours are worthy versus the detours you can ignore. On our Wise Walk, I talk about figuring out what experiences and which relationships are detour worthy. It depends on what you define as worthy and weighing the effort you think you can handle. Come with me as we reflect on these Wise Walk questions: What detours in your life are you choosing to take? What detours support your overall goals? Are you aware of those detour worthy moments in your life? Do you make time for the experiences that light you up? Can you plan a new experience that's important and supportive for you? Striders, you are detour worthy as far as I'm concerned. It's okay to explore the more scenic or more supportive detour of your overall journey. Choose your detour worthy route with these Wise Walk questions: Who are the people in your life that are detour worthy? If you need support, can you be honest and ask for help? Can you embrace who is willing to show up for you? You can have a lot more help if you're ready to ask for it. You'd be surprised how willing people are to show up for you. This episode talks about learning to surrender and receive. In full transparency, I think this episode might be a little different. Tomorrow morning I am going to be admitted to the hospital. It took me some time to surrender to the idea of being admitted for 4-5 days, and I want to share how empowering a sense of surrender can be for our True Stride. I'm here to spend quality solo time with you for EP158's Wise Walk as we discover our True Stride. When speaking with the doctor, most of my thoughts were on managing the responsibilities and commitments in my life, like my pups and Striders. However, I reached out for support and people are showing up wonderfully. I'm going to the hospital with peace of mind knowing that I'm prioritizing my health and will show up much stronger for these relationships. On our Wise Walk, I talk about allowing surrender and being open to receiving support. Sometimes we overthink situations, and removing obstacles that hold us back can help us fully surrender. Come with me as we reflect on these Wise Walk questions: What do we need to surrender in order to be fully present? What's holding us back from dealing with our #1 priority? What opportunities are available to us once we surrender? Is there a big decision in your life that you are grappling with right now, and do you feel resistance? Is the resistance physical or emotional? What is the resistance about? Is it an obstacle you can accept or make peace with? Can you notice what becomes available when you address that obstacle? Find ways to stay open for what flows to and through you from surrender. This allows you to gain a wealth of resources and move forward with an open heart. Be vulnerable enough to seek new solutions. Empower your surrender with these Wise Walk questions: Are there areas in your life where you're leaning into your ego or not asking for help? Can you surrender your ego? Where in your life is there an opportunity for you to ask for help? As you ask for help, can you be open to how people are able to show up? Where in life can you benefit from expert help? Are you open to expert help? Can you see this surrender as an investment in yourself? Fully committing to an intention shows deep care. Stepping into a declaration sparks a new chapter in your life. This episode talks about vows that inspire you. We're quickly approaching the time of year where it seems like weddings are upon us. I know I have two weddings this summer, and I'm so excited for these individuals. I look forward to hearing them say their vows to one another and to the community that will gather together to support them in the promises they're declaring. Thinking about the sincerity of vows has me reflecting on the promises we make to ourselves. I'm here to spend quality solo time with you for EP139's Wise Walk as we discover our True Stride. Wedding vows represent promises of what is meaningful to couples in the moment and carries forward. It'll serve as a guidepost in the relationships of the couples. Self-promises act in the same way, allowing you to stay connected to your values and your True Stride. On our Wise Walk, I talk about vows that inspire you to become more of yourself. We can find freedom in the declarations and promises we're making to ourselves, for ourselves. Come with me as we reflect on these Wise Walk questions: What vows are you making for yourself that you intend to honor? Would you consider sharing these vows? How have pledges you made in life served you? Do you want to tweak any of your pledges? As you hold space for that commitment, how does it make you feel? Where do your commitments show up in life? More often than not, the promises we make to ourselves become milestones or landmarks in our journey. They symbolize a shift in the way we navigate the world. You can always tweak a promise or change your mind if you realize it's no longer serving you. Can you change your mindset to reset your experience with love? Taking a step back, and coming from a place of love, allows us to view situations from a different angle. We can usually find an angle that benefits us and works in our favor. This episode talks about how to reset with love. I want to start by acknowledging the beautiful, heartfelt, and healing emails and feedback that I received from you, my fellow Striders. I'm so grateful you took the time to reach out and share your takeaways from the previous episode. It was nice talking about how we can ascend when we're feeling down. I shared how I had to reprogram my awareness to look at the situation differently and in my favor. I'm here to spend quality solo time with you for EP127's Wise Walk as we discover our True Stride. Among the messages I received, there is one email I want to share with you. A fellow Strider shared reflections on not only the importance of viewing things in a new light, but also a suggestion on how to do just that. On our Wise Walk, I talk about how to approach experiences with a loving perspective. We can remove our limited view to build back something healthier and more useful to our journey. Come with me as we reflect on these Wise Walk questions: Where in your life are you struggling and what new perspective will help you reset your experience with love? How are you taking time to slow down and celebrate your accomplishments and how you show up? As you look at the things in life that you're striding towards, are you building time in your schedule to reset with love? Having a set time to rebuild your perspective gives you room to be more intentional. In this way, you get to be optimistic and realistic with your perspective through love, acceptance, and resourcefulness. Each Wise Walk is a chance to ascend and love each other as we continue to elevate and grow together. If your best friend came to you feeling down and tired, you'd tell them to take it easy or ask them what they need. Why don't we extend the same grace for ourselves? I felt crappy and drained on top of having little appetite. Since I love the conversations we have, I pulled together enough strength to show up positively and interact with Striders. I'm here to spend quality solo time with you for EP125's Wise Walk as we discover our True Stride. Honestly, I hold space for when I feel aligned and not aligned. In this episode, I'm not aligned with my body. You can use this as your reminder to check in with yourself, slow down, and listen to your signals.  On our Wise Walk, I talk about listening to your signals and learning to flow with your natural rhythm. Factors such as lack of sleep and stress can make it easy to get side tracked and miss the signals your body sends. Come with me as we reflect on these Wise Walk questions: Are you listening to your body? Are you honoring the signals your body sends to you on a daily basis? How are you holding space to stay nourished and aligned with your True Stride? What usually happens if you find yourself not listening to the signs, and do you want a different experience? Are you willing to make changes? Where can you release schedule limitations so you can have more time to respond to your signals? Too many times we simply use our bodies as tools and push ourselves too far. Instead, let's partner with our bodies that will be with us for the rest of our lives. We can show up more fully when we intentionally listen to our signals. Be proactive with these Wise Walk questions: Can you figure out how to give yourself what you need? Can you honor yourself and your needs in a holistic way? Are you able to treat your body like you would a best friend? As you receive signals, are you listening intentionally? Are you prioritizing self-care with actions? What are you noticing in your body that you need right now? What are you giving it in this moment? Life is like a game. We move through the game trying our best to protect ourselves while scoring big goals. What you think of it depends on how you view the game. Wouldn't it be nice to play the game of life less on defense and more on offense? This episode talks about how to love and lower your walls. Lately, I reflect on how love and bonds are formed. Love is like a balance of allowing it to come in and offering it. Bonds help us see we're capable of sharing with others and ourselves. Honestly, it makes me think about times where I restricted my ability to give and receive love. I had walls up after some not-so-great relationships that altered how I interacted with love. It was easier to put up a wall than to be vulnerable, but I see things a bit differently these days. I'm here to spend quality solo time with you for EP124's Wise Walk as we discover our True Stride. Love and walls are not only for romance, but also in our platonic relationships. Our vulnerability touches every part of our life where we interact with others. At this time, I feel open and free to give and receive love. While being with Striders and doing this podcast, I learned that true authentic bonds can form if I show up and share my experiences. On our Wise Walk, I talk about nurturing our vulnerability. It's okay to be vulnerable; that's part of this human experience. Come with me as we reflect on these Wise Walk questions: Where in your life do you feel that restriction toward vulnerability? Do you feel like you are not fully letting love in? Is it possible that you're holding onto an emotional wall or a limiting belief that is keeping someone that you want to connect with at bay or stopping you from approaching them? Are you holding onto an emotional wall to avoid looking deeper at why you feel the way you do? Can you find positives in a past experience or a lesson in it that makes you a more empathetic person? How can you get more comfortable with being vulnerable? As you learn to show and share your authentic self, how can you move past the fears and limitations? Thank you for helping me move past my fears so that I can be more vulnerable and get to know my authentic self more. That's a gift you gave me, and I hope you feel that reciprocal exchange of love and support on each episode. Being guarded impacts you the most at a personal cost. Explore your vulnerability with these Wise Walk questions: Are the walls from those past experiences or traumas serving you today? If not, can you release them? As you lower those walls and let people in, can you be surprised with the beauty exchanged as you get to know each other? Can you take time to sit and appreciate those beautiful moments? Do you need to hire support to help you get over that initial hurdle? Are there groups, communities, or organizations where you can vulnerably share so that you can break down those walls? Are there opportunities to journal or use another medium to check in with yourself and express what's going on? Sometimes we feel we have an answer until a moment, situation, or new information prompts us to change our mind. It's like when you change your restaurant order after seeing a delicious plate delivered to another table. Can you playfully laugh at your evolution as you choose again? This episode talks about what awareness or shifts you gain as you evolve. The holidays are upon us, and I am having a blast! This past weekend, I had the honor of celebrating and spending time with two different groups of friends. I went to a birthday celebration and a luncheon. On top of this, I heard from more Striders about their Word of the Year. Actually, I have an update about my Word of the Year. I'm here to spend quality solo time with you for EP116's Wise Walk as we discover our True Stride. I recently experienced a moment that inspired me to rethink my Word of the Year. As of now, I shifted my Word of the Year from Freedom to Flow. I talk about what incident sparked this ripple effect and why I chose this new word. Striders, this is the Four Step Process in real time. On our Wise Walk, I talk about how we can explore the new awareness and shifts that come up as we experience life. When we recognize what new paths we want to consider, we bring a new energy into our journey. Come with me as we reflect on these Wise Walk questions: What are you holding space for so that you can draw in what you really want? Which word can fully communicate the intention you want to send out to the universe? As you feel your way through your word options, are you reminding yourself that it's okay to choose again? What's the energy that surfaces as you play with your word options? New perspectives surface as you play with each word. You have the opportunity to choose again if you find a previous word no longer fits your aims or if a new word comes up that seems to suit your intentions more. Intentions communicate your resolve and readiness for a new start. Let's flow and grow together with these Wise Walk questions: As you test each word out in your reality, do you feel a shift in your own vibration? How does the energy you receive from each word feel? What are the possibilities if you keep heading down that path? Where can you let go and communicate that you're ready to step into a new word? The more we grow and expand, the more we enter new dimensions that have room for the version of ourselves that we currently embrace. Likewise, this upcoming New Year gives us another chance to commit to the next phase of our True Stride. How can we be sure we stay aligned on the next part of our path? This episode talks about choosing a guiding word and intention. I got an email from a Strider about reflecting on the Word of the Year. This person was curious about what this year's conversation would bring since it's a tradition for Striders (and for me personally the past 13 years). I didn't give it much thought yet, but saw this as a great opportunity to start now, so thank you. I'm here to spend quality solo time with you for EP115's Wise Walk as we discover our True Stride. Ask: What is the intention you want to create? Example: What do I want to create or manifest? 2. Ask: How does the word feel when you try it on and does it encompass all the areas of your life? Example: How does the word apply to you personally, professionally, financially, spiritually, in relationships, etc.? 3. Act: Envision all the possible applications and how it makes you feel. Example: Envision how this word could influence your decisions, especially when at life's crossroads. 4. Act: Apply it and take action. Example: Apply it to your life before the New Year to play around with how the word feels in real time. On our Wise Walk, I talk about how your Word of the Year is your personal guiding star that will support you and help you get to where you want to go. Come with me as we reflect on these Wise Walk questions: What is a word or a phrase that will help you stay grounded in the experience and the feeling that you want to create? How are you going to use that word to motivate you or to check that you're in alignment? How can that word help you readjust if you get off course? How can you explore ways to incorporate this word right now to remind you to move forward in alignment? Whatever word you choose, it should support your overall well-being. You deserve to evolve and grow in all areas of your life. As we enter a new year, let's keep encouraging each other and supporting each other to show up in our True Stride. Continue your evolving journey with these Wise Walk questions: What's a word that easily comes up for you as a possible guiding star or mirror that you can use to consistently reflect on and continue moving in an aligned direction? What's a word that's calling you that you feel will support you even through challenges? When you hold space for that word, what emotions does it bring up? If you need inspiration, are there people you can discuss a Word of the Year with to bounce ideas off each other? Join this inspiring community to uncover a new sense of freedom, and be sure to follow and review the True Stride podcast as we continue to exchange our light and Heart Value with each other.   In this episode: [00:23] - Welcome to the show! If you want to learn how to release and start anew with ease, simply look at nature. Seasonal changes can inspire how we re-engage and refresh our identity in new life phases. This episode talks about shifting from identity pressure to peace. Recently, I received messages from two Striders going through major transitions in their lives. One Strider is selling their long-standing, successful law practice. Another Strider is a stay-at-home mom preparing to go back into the workforce. Huge transitions can come with uncertainty and confusion. I could feel from their messages that they are exploring clarity and what path lies ahead of them. Both Striders expressed what I think of as identity pressure. I'm here to spend quality solo time with you for EP106's Wise Walk as we discover our True Stride. Starting a new phase of life can be liberating. There's benefits to being a beginner. From the phases of life to the gaps in between, we continuously add to our Value Vault as we share our Heart Value and grow through Expansion Experiences. We should aim to transition into our new identity gracefully without forcing it and give ourselves grace for the times we stumble into one. On our Wise Walk, I talk about how to welcome your new transition of life. Come with me as we reflect on these Wise Walk questions: Whatever season of life you're currently in, how can you shift your energy from identity pressure to identity peace? As you think about your current transition, how can you enjoy it more? As we consider what's calling us, can we embrace our restart and release the outdated identity? Where can you get excited about starting as a beginner again and building new expertise? I really appreciate the emails I got from our fellow Striders expressing their concerns about clarity and life phases. I'm very optimistic that I'll hear back from you with news of how you embraced your next chapter. You don't have to figure everything out right now. Embrace your refresh identity with these Wise Walk questions: Have you taken time to celebrate how far you've come with all the experiences that make you YOU? How do you intend to carry all of the people that you impacted with you? How do you want to honor the previous parts of you? How are you going to thank and release the previous parts of yourself that are no longer serving you? Join this inspiring community to uncover a new sense of freedom, and be sure to follow and review the True Stride podcast as we continue to exchange our light and Heart Value with each other.   In this episode: [00:23] - Welcome to the show! [02:09] - How do we relate our identity to the phases of our life? [03:32] - Are you ready to be a beginner again? [05:48] - Mary Tess shares the time she became a snowboard instructor.  [08:49] - Release the unrealistic expectations you put on yourself. [11:10] - Every single season of life brings its own experience. [14:11] - Mary Tess recalls this graduation gift her mother gave her that reminds her of the gaps between life phases. [16:29] - Be kind with yourself as you refresh your identity. [19:05] - Thank you for listening!   Memorable Quotes: “The reality is that anyone who loves you just wants you to be happy, feel fulfilled, and have that high energetic vibration and frequency that they know is possible for you.” - Mary Tess “Trust that you don't have to figure out all the answers before you transition.”  - Mary Tess   Links and Resources: Mary Tess Rooney Email Facebook | LinkedIn | Twitter | Instagram Heart Value

As we go through life, there are moments we like to remember, or we occasionally circle back to situations. What happens when years or decades pass? This episode talks about the feelings of reuniting and remembering. This weekend I have a high school reunion. It's been several decades. I went to a catholic high school in Delaware that was small and intimate, graduating with a class of 90 individuals. Thinking back, I played volleyball, softball, and was on the bowling team. I enjoyed my time there, even the times I got in trouble. My high school years gave me space to expand and grow while around supportive people. I'm here to spend quality solo time with you for EP105's Wise Walk as we discover our True Stride. The word “reunion” is tied to a meaning of strengthening a connection or remembering as we reunite. You can reconnect with people, places, hobbies, or anything that contributed to your life. Before my high school reunion, I wanted to explore what this word means to me and what it could mean to you, my fellow Striders. On our Wise Walk, I talk about my upcoming high school reunion and other things I'm reconnecting with, such as college friends and hobbies. Come with me as we reflect on these Wise Walk questions: Where in your life do you want to have a reunion? Is there an activity or group of people that you want to strengthen the connection with? Is there an area of your life that you want to remember or acknowledge how it helped you change or evolve? Are there people that you want to gather with who have been on your mind? What makes reunions so special is that they are a chance to peek into our life archive. We get to appreciate the different outlook that we've taken on as a result of the different phases of our life. Reunions show an evolution from where we were to where we are to sharing dreams for our future. Remember your roots and your transitions with these Wise Walk questions: Is there something in your life that you have had a reunion experience with that you cherish? Are there people you can celebrate these milestones with? Where in your life can you bring something together again? Can you take action to support your need for what lights you up? Is there someone in your life that you want to create that reunion-like quality with so you both show up in these phases of life? Join this inspiring community to uncover a new sense of freedom, and be sure to follow and review the True Stride podcast as we continue to exchange our light and Heart Value with each other.   In this episode: [00:23] - Welcome to the show! [03:17] - What is the definition of reunion? [05:34] - Who do you want to reconnect with? [07:43] - Mary Tess talks about getting back to running with a runners club. How has it been so far? [10:30] - Connecting with like-minded individuals is important to see what's possible in ourselves. [12:17] - Mary Tess plans to meet up with a friend from college. It's one of the few times per year they reconnect. [15:08] - Reunions are a chance to give gratitude to those who inspire us. [17:39] - Mary Tess talks about growing and expanding as we move through life, even when things get awkward. [18:46] - Thank you for listening!   Memorable Quotes: “I am going to show up, be open, and see what comes my way.” - Mary Tess “Every phase of life, every individual, and every experience is just adding value to everything that we do.” - Mary Tess   Links and Resources: Mary Tess Rooney Email Facebook | LinkedIn | Twitter | Instagram Heart Value

Can you believe True Stride is celebrating 100 episodes? Striders, together, we came far in this journey of joy, reflection, and self-awareness. It's amazing to think we spent 100 Wise Walks expanding and growing together.  In this episode, I'm excited to reflect on our experiences over the 100 episodes and talk about lessons learned.  I'm here to spend quality solo time with you for EP100's Wise Walk as we discover our True Stride. Looking back at the conversations from different episodes felt like an archeological experiment. Let's take time to slow down and celebrate. On our Wise Walk, I give you the top 10 lessons that contribute to finding your True Stride. Come with me as we reflect on these Wise Walk questions: Where have you asked for help on something because you don't yet have the self-belief to pursue your goal? Can you celebrate milestones with the people who help you? What's been fulfilling and what's been difficult on your journey? What are you ready to let go of to make more space for things that light you up? Are you slowing down and checking in with your feelings to make sure that you're living your best life according to your Heart Value rules? What do you really want, and how are you getting clear on the steps to get there? When fear starts to arise, do you know that means you have an opportunity to grow? It's okay to use this time to restart or reset. Reflecting on these top 10 lessons can help you reevaluate what you're doing to show up as your authentic self. Your Heart Value is meant to be shared with the world. How can you follow your heart and create abundance in your life?  What's one action you can take to build financial stability? What does success on your terms look like? What did you learn from your toughest storm? Who stood by you during the storm? What “failures” in your life have become investments in your Value Vault? I am grateful for this Striders' community and all who contributed to the True Stride podcast. Our Heart Value can serve us and others in so many ways. You can transfer a huge amount of encouragement or empowerment by confidently telling the story of your True Stride. This episode talks about how to write your story for the peeps in your life that matter most. AJ Harper is an editor and publishing strategist who helps authors write transformational books that enable them to build readership, grow their brand, and make a significant impact on the world. As a ghostwriter and as a developmental editor, she has worked with hundreds of authors, from newbies to New York Times bestselling authors with millions of books sold. She is the Head Writing Coach for Heroic Public Speaking, the premier speaker training program created by Michael and Amy Port. She is writing partner to business author Mike Michalowicz. AJ is also the author of Write a Must-Read: Craft a Book That Changes Lives--Including Your Own. On EP 76's Wise Walk, AJ and I discuss how you can find your truth and write a story that speaks directly to people who resonate with you. I know from experience, since Heart Value would not be here without AJ. She challenged me to explore my heart-centered passions and tap into the value I wanted to give to Striders. AJ understands how to balance the needs of authors and readers to protect an author's true intentions. On our Wise Walk, open your mind to realize your vision for your book and learn to not compromise on what value you want to provide for readers. You'll get useful ideas on breaking past myths and releasing the lies we tell ourselves that keep us from fully engaging our work. We're dispelling book publishing misinformation and sharing how book writing can be a reflective process. Come with me as we reflect on AJ's fundamentals and these Wise Walk questions: Who is your ideal reader? Who are the people you want to help? What is your core message? What is a promise you can commit to and deliver on? AJ believes that if an author is struggling to get past the outline or the first chapter of their book, they're probably not writing the book they're meant to write. You have something inside of you that you want to share. You need to find out how to pull away the false filters that distort your message. You should only want filters that honor your truth and cut out distractions. Advocate for yourself and write great books with these Wise Walk questions: How connected are you to your voice? Where in life are you adopting someone else's voice? Where can you exercise validating your own voice and style? What are the myths you adopted as you grew up, and how can you find your actual truth? Join this inspiring community to uncover a new sense of freedom, and be sure to follow and review the True Stride podcast as we continue to exchange our light and Heart Value with each other.   In this episode: [00:23] - Welcome to the show! EP93: Energy Attracts Energy

Do you know anyone who seems to always get lucky? They may not be as lucky as you think. In life, the energy you give the world is often times the energy you see and experience from the world. This episode talks about how energy attracts energy. I spent a crazy week filled with highs and lows. One of the highs was that I caught up with a good friend for the first time in a while. He's a Strider, so we spoke a bit about the podcast, and then we started talking about life. Our conversation turned into a thoughtful exploration, especially around the idea that we're all energy. I started to think about how energy attracts energy in this world and all around us. I'm here to spend quality solo time with you for EP93's Wise Walk as we discover our True Stride. We are responsible for the energy that we give, receive, and interact with so it's important to be mindful. Our energy can change in the split of a moment. We attract more aligned situations when we take inventory of the energy that we give our attention. On our Wise Walk, I explore energy management and how to shift out of energetic lows. Come with me as we reflect on these Wise Walk questions: Where in your life are you noticing the energy that you're sending or receiving?  What is the energy that you're surrounding yourself with or that makes up the environment that you are in? How is that energy affecting you emotionally, physically, and spiritually? Are you able to notice how energy can pull you in a new direction if you're not paying attention to yourself? I believe we should be ambassadors of positivity. Even as I record podcast episodes for you, I'm careful about my energy during the time I'm recording. That energy could transfer to you, and I want that energy to be a high vibration for Striders. We are developing skills, behaviors, and patterns with every Wise Walk so that we have the tools to ask ourselves reflective questions. If we share our elevated Joy Frequency with the people we interact with, that energy continues to grow outwards to others we may never meet. Create more aligned energy with these Wise Walk questions: In what areas in your life do you find yourself getting triggered? Can you find grace in your heart for when your energy gets sidetracked?  What can you do to bring your energy back on track? How can you keep your energetic vibration high regardless of what is happening around you? Are there areas in life where you can give energy to help people out of their energetic lows? Are you taking time for those joyful moments? Join this inspiring community to uncover a new sense of freedom, and be sure to follow and review the True Stride podcast as we continue to exchange our light and Heart Value with each other.   In this episode: [00:23] - Welcome to the show! [03:14] - After a conversation with a friend, Mary Tess reflects on the energy she interacted with throughout the week. [04:50] - How can you get your energy back on track? [06:24] - We pick up on each other's energy. It's contagious. [08:38] - Mary Tess touches on why she is grateful for the USA and appreciates all who sacrificed for our freedom. She also shares her optimistic perspective that our collective high vibration can lead to a bright future.  [11:09] - Is it possible to help someone get out of an energetic low without being caught up in it? [13:49] - Life is full of ups and downs. [16:04] - Thank you for listening!   Memorable Quotes: “You have the ability to recover and end up in a much different place if we just have this awareness, and we have the ability to take ourselves on that mindful Wise Walk.” - Mary Tess “I am so honored to be on this journey with you.” - Mary Tess   Links and Resources: Mary Tess Rooney Email Facebook | LinkedIn | Twitter | Instagram Heart Value

We go through a cycle of finding balance in how we choose to show up in life. Are you transitioning from one action to the next fully present in your movement? Are you guided through your transitions by your heart of hearts as you move forward in alignment? This episode talks about honoring the light within us. In 2009, I became a certified yoga instructor. During that time I was still in corporate America and wasn't sure what I was going to do with it. I was open to honoring the practice of yoga and meeting like-minded people; maybe being a substitute instructor, but nothing full-time. Years later, I can say I found an opportunity to use my certification professionally. I'm here to spend quality solo time with you for EP88's Wise Walk as we discover our True Stride. Lately, I thought about my style of moving through yoga, and the principles of the practice in general. The movement of yoga connects to breathing through transitions and finding balance in different poses, or moments of rest. That grounding practice makes me think of how we witness the light within us. On our Wise Walk, I discuss honoring the light within us. Our light can illuminate the path of our True Stride. Then, we can share that light with others, so that their frequency and light shines bright. Come with me as we reflect on these Wise Walk questions: Where can we see and honor the light within us, and then share that light with others? How can we, as a Striders community, join together around this idea of seeing, honoring, and elevating the light within each other? Who are the people in your life who see and honor all of the good that you give out in this world, and appreciate that good?  Who are the people in your life that you see and honor the light within them? For the people that you don't feel an energetic high from, especially when you're in a funk, do you have an opportunity to keep your distance from them? The world can be heavy on our hearts. It's nice to witness the light within ourselves and others. Giving our attention to the light helps shift the energy of environments and conversations to see the light as well. We can cultivate a mutual respect and appreciation of the light within each of us. As you think about who you interact with on a daily basis, who are those light bodies that bring out your smile and help you get out of a funk? Think of how to amplify the light in your life with these Wise Walk questions: Where in your life can you make commitments to your light? Can you find a community to support you as you find your balance in ways that feel right in your heart? How can we bring out the light in each other more and let it shine brighter? Join this inspiring community to uncover a new sense of freedom, and be sure to follow and review the True Stride podcast as we continue to exchange our light and Heart Value with each other.   In this episode: [00:23] - Welcome to the show! [03:08] - Yoga focuses on the connection of mind, body, and soul through breath. [05:52] - Mary Tess shares an opportunity that recently came her way. [07:47] - The world can be heavy on our hearts.  It's nice to witness the light in ourselves and others. [10:42] - We can unite and bring light and love to the forefront. [12:39] - Seeing the light in others reminds us to cherish the present. [15:04] - Are you aware of examples of light in your life? Do you keep healthy boundaries with people who aren't exactly a light in your life? [17:09] - Mary Tess talks about breathing through the duality of life. [18:42] - Inhale and expand into your next step. [20:33] - Healing happens when we see and honor the light within each one of us. [23:23] - Thank you for listening!   Memorable Quotes: “We're expanding, and we're constricting. We're inhaling, and we're exhaling. We're bringing in the good. We're releasing the bad. That's the duality of life.” - Mary Tess   Links and Resources: Mary Tess Rooney Email Facebook | LinkedIn | Twitter | Instagram Heart Value

Are there moments in your life where you waste time on something that could be easy if you were a bit more organized and aligned with your vision? This episode talks about how to laugh, refocus, and simplify your alignment. Honestly, I'm laughing at myself a little. I'm here encouraging Striders to create alignment with everything they want to manifest, but I can tell you I still have days where I find myself out of alignment. That's why following your True Stride is a journey. Every conversation we have together is helping us build the resilience to get back into alignment from any unexpected detour. I'm here to spend quality solo time with you for EP80's Wise Walk as we discover our True Stride. I need time to purge and reorganize the actions and systems I have in place for aligning with my True Stride. First, I start with a laugh. I view life's detours as moments of learning, which are a “Gift” (my Word of the Year). Then, I take time to refocus and simplify how I am managing my energy and attention. On our Wise Walk, I discuss ways to realign from the shifts and pivots that might take you too far off course. Come with me as we reflect on these Wise Walk questions: Where can you simplify your processes, expectations, and environment to move through life more fluidly? Which parts of your life contribute to the frustration or disappointment at yourself that may come up, and how can you shift that energy? We should give ourselves grace and kindness as we find our way back into alignment. Pivots and detours are not uncommon. Celebrate that you noticed you need to slow down and check your reality. Remember to laugh, refocus, and simplify. Use this time to reflect on your alignment and flow with these Wise Walk questions: Where are you getting stuck? Where are you getting distracted by other things, instead of what's important to you?  What actions can you intentionally include in your day to get more flow?  Join this inspiring community to uncover a new sense of freedom, and be sure to follow and review the True Stride podcast as we continue to exchange our light and Heart Value with each other.   In this episode: [00:23] - Welcome to the show! [02:56] - Mary Tess reflects on getting more organized to get back into alignment. [04:18] - How can you choose differently to come back into alignment? [06:16] - Give yourself grace in dealing with your pivots. [07:37] - Mary Tess values these weekly conversations with Striders and makes time for it. [09:45] - Thank you for listening!   Memorable Quotes: “Maybe you can relate to some of those sentiments? No matter how quickly or forcefully the world moves, we have the ability to slow down and check our reality. When we stand tall, shoulders back, and drop into our heart, we can set the pace of our True Stride. This episode talks about listening to the beat of your heart. Striders, I focus on giving quality content in how the podcast is presented. I curate the messaging of our weekly Wise Walks, but I also work with a support system for the technical side of podcasting. Today's episode is inspired by an email I got from the vendor I work with, Pro Podcast Solutions. One question opened our conversation so that we were able to truthfully share our thoughts on our teamwork. Do you want to hear what the question was?  I'm here to spend quality solo time with you for EP78's Wise Walk as we discover our True Stride. It's time for you to slow down, ask questions, and listen to your heart. If you don't, you might not learn and grow as an individual, or with your support system. When we ask the hard questions, we can grow together. On our Wise Walk, I talk about how we are asking hard questions to ourselves and the people we're in relationships with (whether business or personal). We should grow together and support each other in ways that are meaningful. Honestly, this is also a conversation I want to have with Striders, since I am sincerely invested in cultivating the relationship and community we share. Let's check in with each other to reflect on these Wise Walk questions: Where in your life are you slowing down and expanding your heart to notice the energetic and emotional connection/pull towards what lights you up? Who are the individuals that you feel an energetic and emotional connection to? Have you told them lately? Have you asked your mutual support if they are satisfied with the way you support each other to do your best work on this Earth? If not, what's an area you think you can strengthen together? When I slow down and check my reality on these Wise Walk questions, I feel an energetic or emotional pull in a certain direction. Give yourself grace and permission to do the same. Don't feel pushed into a direction by something external, like society's expectations, but allow yourself to be led by your heart.  Energetic and emotional connections bring powerful exchanges that move you toward a bigger picture. Take actions that are heart-centered and aligned to where you want to go with these Wise Walk questions: What relationships in your life do you share an energetic and emotional connection to? If you do have that, can you ask questions to grow together? Where can you stand in your truth, bring your shoulders back and broaden your heart to feel your heartbeat and create connection to yourself and others? Join this inspiring community to uncover a new sense of freedom, and be sure to follow and review the True Stride podcast as we continue to exchange our light and Heart Value with each other.
