Who's getting canceled! I need to know this. It's important to know who that is happening to! Because I assume it is a lot of people. Presumably it is, right? It's only a few or several years later. And nothing has really changed since then. Plus there's a game about it, which usually indicates some level of relevance. Yep. All in all, I'd say someone is getting canceled. God, I hope it's no one I care about! The consequences, we assume, would be dire. Well anyway on today's show there's that kind of stuff. And some Catholic stuff (don't write in saying you're Catholic I don't want to hear none of that mess). And some surfing stuff (don't write in saying you're a surfer I don't want to hear none of that mess). And of course, our old friend Stringy. Stringy, we love you! How did three Irishmen who emigrated to Australia in the mid-1800s become a part of one of the deadliest attacks on police in the 19th century?
In today's episode, Stephen and Joanna pour over some of the most passionate music ever performed and conceived - the violin concerto. They explore the mechanics of violin playing, discuss their favourite virtuoso fiddlers and also explore major works by Elgar, Brahms, Tchaikovsky and Sibelius.

*Sniff Sniff*, I podcast best when my bladder is full, Welcome back to the podcast! Today we’re going to be talking about Dujanah, which is a tough game to describe. With an art style predominately defined by claymation, randomized events that mean no two playthroughs of the game are entirely alike, and a sensibility somewhere between jokes and universal emotional truth, the game runs the gamut of moods and tones. The game is far from meaningless, however. The majority of interactions play into the game’s larger themes, and deciphering that is the main puzzle the player is presented with. The idiosyncratic characters and disjointed scenes serve their own purposes and which things you focus on will affect your takeaways from the game. And despite all these art-game pretensions and ruminations on death and consciousness, Dujanah has an understanding of play, and still makes sense as a game, even if what game that is takes a lot of forms over its short runtime. We’ll be discussing the parts of the game that we individually found most effective in communicating its themes, whiplash inducing tonal change, and whether or not we thought the game would show us an anus. Thank you for joining us this week! We had a good time with this weird game, and it fits well within our range of tastes when it comes to indie titles. But weird games don’t get the clicks, baby, so next time join us as we talk about the original mobile tower defense vegetation sensation, Plants Vs. Zombies.
We lament for Jude Law's hairline and play Would You Rather.

Another Ann absence this week, which would normally mean that Simon and Ste start buying video game equipment that they don't need, but this time they took to opportunity to learn something about themselves. Which was mostly their middle names. Ann did manage to write some news which Simon read out, but he did point out that no jokes were included. Unless there were and Simon was news-shaming Ann. Or maybe Ann just improvs the jokes as she's reading the news out? This week we had the very prepared Nicholas Lovell on as our Super-Special Guest. He was in to talk about his new book - the Pyramid of Games Design - which is aimed at people who make videogames, those who are trying to switch to service-based games, and anyone starting in the industry. He told us how you get people to become superfans of your games, how many layers a game needs, and if losing the narrative in videogames is a Good Thing. But to be honest, we were a little disappointed that Team OLL wasn't acknowledged in Nicholas' previous book The Curve (which invented FIFA's Ultimate Team mode). Surely this would be rectified in his new book? We also found out that Ste has been spying on Mrs Graham, how easy it is to put on a bandana (Hi D Perry), if P Moulinex invented Fortnite, how Ste tells the temperature, and Simon couldn't remember. Cheerio! Jason Moon, author of Crater's Edge, messaged me about some comments he had. He was perturbed about reader reaction to his storyline and wasn't sure how to handle the comments. I told him that those sorts of comments are the very greatest compliment an author can get, because once you get them you've reached the stage where people care about your work enough to get angry: they're invested emotionally in the characters. Yes. It is initially confronting to have someone commenting like that but what you really need to do is step back for a moment and realise what a gigantic compliment it is in actuality. It means you affected them strongly, and that's quite an important thing to be able to do. It doesn't happen much but it's quite a GOOD thing when it does. It's not an easy thing to do to get people that invested. What it really means is you have succeeded as a writer and reached an important milestone. We also have a chat about getting comments in general and also GIVING comments! Hopefully our new comment notification feature will be a boon for this kind of interaction. Workshop #10 Young Composers & Improvisors Workshop Recordings
I found chords that I liked the sound of and then I added a melody to fit. I made sure the chords sounded good together. The main instrument in my piece is the flute. I like the flute because it can play higher notes. I named my piece windy, windy, windy, windy, stringy, string because there are four wind instruments and two string instruments. I learned that you have to pay a lot of attention to the chords. And make sure there are not to many dissonances.
My piece was originally based on wind. I picked one of the measures that I liked from one of the test pieces I had made in the past. I started my piece with just my main idea on the flute. I chose the flute as my main instrument because I like the sound of the high notes playing the loudest. I like the sound of the flute, I think it makes my piece the best it can be. I enjoyed looking through my different pieces to get ideas for my A, B, and C sections. I picked Windy, Windy, Windy, Windy, Stringy, String as my title because I have four wind instruments and two string instruments.

We begin this special holiday episode by trying to name five things to carve at Halloween other than pumpkins. (It's not very nice to the pumpkins, after all.) You can play along, but remember where to stick your candle. And all wooden things count together. Why can't pumpkin insides be a mash of non-stringy mush? It's just confusing. If you can help clear up the confusion, let us know by email (maskedman@limitedappeal.net). Then in Urban Legend, Warren tells us about the increased risk of zombification that arises when people are regularly hypnotized. Do you or your friends show any symptoms? Listen and we will reveal the two things that will certainly decrease your risk of turning into a zombie, presuming that's a bad thing. Voila!
