The most important thing for the marketing of any business is consistency. Consistency is the driving force behind your brand ultimately reaching your ideal client. It doesn't matter what platform you are using to reach your audience, consistency is the key. We believe that email marketing is the most impactful and reliable way to move your business forward. You don't own your Instagram, you don't own your TikTok, but you do own your email list. Oftentimes when we start talking about e-mail marketing the first question is "Where do I start?” This week Kristi goes through a nurture sequence, otherwise known as a marketing funnel. A funnel is the process of converting traffic using a freebie, coupon code, ebook, or whatever your lead magnet is. After the free content has been delivered a series of automated emails will follow that will educate about your mission, who you are and how you can serve this new prospective client. This is the heart of any good online marketing strategy. Kristi walks through a step by step guide on how to do this on this week's show. Let's dive in! Smart Agency Masterclass with Jason Swenk: Podcast for Digital Marketing Agencies
Considering adding software as a service to your offering? Do you have a SaaS idea in mind? Having proprietary agency software is a great way to meet the needs of your clients. However, building it is no easy task and often takes longer than expected. Today's guests created an email marketing system which led to building their agency back in the early 2000s. They share lessons learned and challenges overcome in the process of building their email marketing agency out of a SaaS model. Robert Dodd and Joe Solano are the founders of XL Technologies, a digital agency specializing in helping US-based real estate brokers grow and scale their brokerages. They have over 20 years of experience and help their clients using their proven and tested agent acquisition framework. They also created proprietary software for real estate brokerages, which they use to help get clients better results from their campaigns. Their product, and the one that actually got their partnership started, is eCampaignPro. This email marketing system helps build targeted agent-to-agent email marketing lists. In this interview, we'll discuss: Discovering the right niche and selling a solution. The #1 common mistake sending cold emails. Recommendations on building your own SaaS. He followed Jason's podcast and eventually joined the mastermind and has been a guest on the podcast before. Today, he's helping Jason bring something new to the Smart Agency podcast audience by interviewing a special guest and getting a new perspective to the show. Discovering the Right Niche and Selling a Solution Robert and Joe have been involved in internet marketing since the dot-com bubble era. Robert moved to Florida to work in a startup, which didn't work out. He met Joe through a project, and they started XL Tech together. They developed an email marketing system, which was a challenge to sell to businesses. They decided to niche down and adapted the system as a solution for the real estate market, specifically brokers. It was a great success. Evolving from SaaS to an Email Marketing Agency They identified common mistakes while managing agent-to-agent marketing relations and decided to provide a more complete solution. The concept of their agency was born from the need to help clients better use their software. Their company quickly grew with the success of eCampaignPro. However, they ended up getting into hot water with Google after some of their customers were spamming clients. As a result, their email traffic got blocked, which caused a significant disruption in the business. They decided to help real estate brokers strategically map out the right approach and leverage social media as another way to reach out to agents. Their agency used their understanding of their audience's pain points and motivations to create an agent acquisition framework. They take everything brokers may need to put together a fully functional and omnipresent marketing campaign to get their message out. They also handle all the pre-qualifications, appointment setting, and follow-up all the way to the onboarding process. #1 Common Mistake in Email Marketing Joe and Robert say that creating software to sell with agency services is an unbelievable undertaking and will almost certainly take longer than expected. One of the most common mistakes in people's approach to cold email is being too aggressive with the frequency and cadence. Therefore it's important to have the right balance between cadence and messaging to get the results you're looking for. With the way algorithms work today, it's essential to be tactful and strategic with your approach. They work out email sequences in their agency, which doesn't try to say everything at once. Sometimes they just contain a simple introduction. Then they wait to see how engaged the audience was with that message before following up. Although they grow brokerages from scratch to thousands of brokers, they've never taken equity. They acknowledge it's an interesting prospect they haven't explored and are proud of the results they can get for their clients. Do You Want to Transform Your Agency from a Liability to an Asset? During our conversation, Yuval shared with me the 3 pillars of email marketing, how to easily add automation, and a simple formula she uses for writing her newsletters. Yuval has a deep passion for writing and a love of helping others find ease in their email marketing. One of the pillars she shared with me was storytelling. Building an email list can be cumbersome. Lead magnets are great, but they don't always drive traffic the way you want them to. Are you tired of asking people to subscribe to your email list? Or maybe, creating yet another lead magnet has you wanting to throw in the towel. Today's guest is here to share her secret to growing her email list to get more clients and it's super fun! Using this tool, you'll not only get people on your email list but get to learn more about them at the same time. What's the secret weapon? Quizzes! About Linda Sidhu Linda Sidhu is an email list building expert who helps entrepreneurs create irresistible personality quizzes that bring in new subscribers on autopilot. Her quizzes convert views to leads at a rate of 60%. A former pharmaceutical sales representative, Linda now helps online business owners learn how to take full advantage of email marketing. Personality Assessment When working in the pharmaceutical industry, Linda learned how to read personalities. This taught her how to genuinely work with each doctor more effectively because she understood what they were looking for. Linda now uses her gifts of understanding personalities to create quizzes and help her clients get to know more about their audiences. Building Relationships Understanding personalities is key to building relationships. This helps us understand buying processes. Likewise, as you build relationships you build trust. Quizzes for Building an Email List Quizzes are shared 1900 times on average. They are a great way to grow an email list. Personality quizzes are the best you can take because people want to know more about themselves. As a result, personality quizzes have a higher conversion. Likewise, using personality quizzes helps you understand your audience's buying practices. A slower-paced personality is going to want to see more testimonials and low risk. Faster paced people want the options right away and more likely to buy from you right away. Quizzes take approximately 40 to 50 hours to create when done right. Once a quiz is complete, you have to think about the email sequence. A quiz should have an email sequence based on each personality. The welcome sequence will help the participant get to know you and your business and help you get to know more about them. Quizzes are the fastest way to grow your audience and make money at the same time. Email Sequence Linda recommends a 5 email welcome series. This is how you build the know like and trust factor. Validate the customer. Talk about them, talk about their quiz results, and their pain points. Then introduce yourself. In the following emails, provide testimonials and a call to action. Each email is personalized. Designing Quizzes for Building an Email List The quiz quadrant that Linda uses to design quizzes is based on the DISC personality assessment. She uses this to learn whether the person is slow-paced or fast-paced, are you people-oriented or task-oriented. Most people will fall into one quadrant over the others. Work backward from your offer. Know where you are taking the people who take the quizzes. What is your offer? Once you have established your offer you can begin working backward. Then do research. Reach out to 8 to 10 people who fit your ideal client avatar (ICA). Do a call with each person. Ask them 10 questions to understand the language around what they need. Themes and phrases will show up and you use this information to write your quiz questions. Map out the quadrants and then write out the questions. The title and topic come after you've mapped out the questions and answers. Keep quizzes on theme. Know your questions and know the behaviors associated with each result. There really is a science behind designing the questions and answers to go along with the personality types. It doesn't have to be perfect, but it's best when you do so that you can personalize our marketing approach. Personalized Marketing Linda believes that personalized marketing is the way of the future. We really need to know our audiences and their buying behaviors. When you figure out who's buying from you, you can use the information to build your marketing efforts. Doing so helps you save time and work effectively. Make more money in less amount of time. Platform to Host Quizzes used for Building an Email List Interact is the company that Linda uses. You can learn more about Interact HERE. Linda is a strategic partner with Interact and offers trainings for them. Email Marketing Only 50% of business owners are using a nurture series. There is a lot of potential for improving your email marketing when using nurture sequence. If I could go back at the start of my business, I would tell myself one thing, "Master Email Marketing." These next few episodes are all about the lessons of email marketing I wish someone would have taught me. Your success is in your hands now. It feels like I'm giving you the keys to a brand new Tesla. Start her up. Set her on autopilot and watch your business take off. Here is your email marketing primer, the broad strokes. 1. Set Up Your Strategy. Establish your rules for business. Show them what to do next. Walk them through the process. 2. Be You. The Real You. Share what is happening in your life. Authentic vs. Being Transparent (Authenticity is sharing how you feel inside, what you are learning intellectually. Transparency shows the whole mess. All of the pieces falling apart. It's like a country song gone wrong... Don't lose credibility.) Use your real voice as you are making an offer to your customers. 3. Build Community Make the connection with your group. Show how what you offer helps others. Build interdependence within your community. Focus on your own group. Get their input. Ask questions. Take a poll, etc. 4. Tell a Story Think of the 3E's: Show your empathy. Be the expert. Share your eccentricities. Paint a picture of what is happening. Business is about trust. You don't have time as a business owner to talk to people for hours on end to make a sell. Now, you send messages out as packages to build those messages of trust. 5. Be the Teacher Say to yourself, "Guide My Group." You already know how to do so many things... now you can share that with your group. Break a project down into small steps. Think about your system. Write down a brain dump...look at the big picture. Avoid the curse of expertise. (That is, you work at a level 9 or 10, while the rest of the world thinks about this at level 2 or 3.) Make it simple. It will feel like you are dumbing it down. You are making it so easy so that you can explain it in basic bones components. Be the person to show someone how to do the beginner's guide. Tutor the beginners. Instant Pot example. 6. Be a Reporter For Every Email Answer the questions before they ask. 5 W's: Who, What, When, Where, Why Show them the How... Find ways to walk them through the steps. Remember 7th grade? You don't know the Algebra teacher...and once he starts talking, Math becomes so much fun. The teacher has inspired you. That's what you'll do with your email sequences. You already have high-level relationships in many areas of your life. Use email right and you will have lots more people coming to you to learn how to excel.
