In this episode, Anna and Derek debate if Van Horne pulls off being the capital D Devil, why Alex, Jane, and Sukie didn't lean more into their witchy powers, and much more during their discussion of the George Miller romp The Witches of Eastwick (1987).Connect with '80s Movie Montage on Facebook, Bluesky or Instagram! The idea for the podcast came when they realized just how much they talk – a lot – when watching films from their favorite cinematic era. Their wedding theme was “a light nod to the ‘80s,” so there's that, too. Both hail from the Midwest but have called Los Angeles home for several years now. Anna is a writer who received her B.A. in Film/Video from Columbia College Chicago and M.A. in Film Studies from Chapman University. Her dark comedy short She Had It Coming was an Official Selection of 25 film festivals with several awards won for it among them. Derek is an attorney who also likes movies. It is a point of pride that most of their podcast episodes are longer than the movies they cover. We'd love to hear from you! Send us a text message.
From hair-dos to hair-don'ts — this killer curls into chaos. During this episode of On the Air with Florenza, I'm joined by the phenomenally talented author St. Sukie De la Croix to discuss his newest book, The Hunt for the Hairdo Killer. Enter the wild, high-camp world of Palm Springs, where curly-top conspiracies meet slapstick sleuthing in Twilight Manors in Palm Springs: The Hunt for the Hairdo Killer. When retired-detective duo Brian & Stéphane stumble upon a madman wiring women's curlers with lethal surprises, the stakes go higher than a bouffant. Mobsters, poodles, a grieving cat named Fish Paste, trigger-happy gardeners filming Godzilla vs. Frida Kahlo, giraffes, and even a wardrobe-malfunctioning waitress licked by the “Forever Marilyn” statue—everything's off the hook and off the rails. We live in a culture of immediacy and entitlement, brought upon us, in part at least, by the emergence of new technologies of the last 20 years that were supposed to democratise society, to disrupt the big corporates, but have laid themselves bare as the same old monolithic structures where the power bases and wealth are maintained and society is left with long lasting effects which are not always positive. The impact on how we consume the Arts, and specifically music, is such that that immediacy means our attention spans are so short, that singles, playlists are the corporate darlings. But….and call me an old fart if you want….listening to an album from beginning to end gives you so much more if you can spend 40 minutes to think about the way the tracks are laid out, why they are in that 1-10 order, what the artist is saying which can often be soul baringly raw, what the music makes you feel, what the words make you feel, how do they relate to your life, the entire story. Maybe it's because I'm of an age now, but I mean, my god, how rich is that???!! The latest record from Sukie Smith is called The Glass Dress and a Ringing Bell and it's a road trip storybook of Exploration, Experimentation, Resistance, Transformation and Liberation, written and delivered exquisitely.Every experience and backstory is unique and deserves to be told and heard - that's humanity. https://www.iwannajumplikedeedee.comI Wanna Jump Like Dee Dee is the music podcast that does music interviews differently. As you'll hear in this edition of Collider Ladies Night, Beanie Feldstein is a favorite. She's a hugely talented individual, with a deep passion for the craft of acting who heavily values the opportunity to create with good people. There's no doubt a good deal of that was in her from the start, but in revisiting her filmography in celebration of the release of her latest film, Drive-Away Dolls, it becomes abundantly clear that Feldstein is able to stand tall, deliver big and use her voice to change this industry for the better because she's been well encouraged and supported by some of the best out there.Feldstein plays Sukie Shankleman in Tricia Cooke and Ethan Cohen's Drive-Away Dolls. Fresh out of a relationship with Margaret Qualley's Jamie, Sukie is on the warpath. She's a no-nonsense cop who isn't about to let Jamie get away with breaking her heart. When Jamie and Geraldine Viswanathan's Marian get mixed up with some criminals while road tripping to Tallahassee, Sukie has no problem giving the goons the information they need to put them hot on Jamie and Marian's trail.Collider Ladies Night interviews are meant to be career-spanning conversations touching on as many titles as possible. In Feldstein's case, however, the interview often came back to one specific film, which is a beautiful thing. Feldstein told me, “Lady Bird changed my whole life and career.”Check out what Feldstein told me about working with Greta Gerwig on her feature directorial debut, collaborating with "one of the single most brilliant people I've ever been around," Sarah Paulson, making Drive-Away Dolls with Margaret Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan, and loads more on this edition of Collider Ladies Night!
