Lord of the World was written in 1907 and is considered one of the classics of dystopian literature. The author, Fr. Robert Hugh Benson, was a Catholic convert from Anglicanism who wanted to write a book about the Antichrist. Lord of the World is that book. Malrubius (Chris), from The Sun Eater discord, joins the show to discuss Lord of the World, why it was important to Pope Francis, and how it impacted other science fiction literature. *************************************************************************************************************Follow me on Twitter @AaronIrberSubscribe to my YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/@imightbelieveinfaeries7563Subscribe to my Substack - for updates on the show, essays, and more!Donate to my Patreon - I Might Believe in Faeries https://www.patreon.com/imightbelieveinfaeriesLike my Facebook page - I Might Believe in FaeriesBattle Of The Creek by Alexander Nakarada | https://www.serpentsoundstudios.comMusic promoted by https://www.free-stock-music.comAttribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Logo Art by Linnea Kisby************************************************************************************************************* Get full access to I Might Believe in Faeries at aaronirber.substack.com/subscribe

So few bands remain that were born during the post-MTV, pre-streaming and social media purgatorial zone of the mid-aughts. Woods are still with us. And despite having one significant kink in their curb appeal, they bring twenty years of codeine-dipped freak folk and high-value return to the listener's ears. City Sun Eater in the River of Light is my favorite of their hot dozen.

EPISODE 8: Hal and John resume their investigation, discovering the clues Sheriff Kerrie had dug up about Hope Springs' gruesome history and the shady past of the Hand of God's Mercy. The pieces of the puzzle all begin falling into place – the Black Hand is a cult that has been run by the Macon family for decades, performing necromantic ritual sacrifices in a repeated effort to summon an eldritch being known as The Centre. Their efforts have never taken – until now, due to the volatile power of the Starheart. Their latest sacrifice of Todd Rice, however, seems not to have summoned the intended entity. Due to Rice's otherworldly metahuman abilities, the cult has instead summoned a creature of darkness from beyond the veil of space, something known as a Sun Eater. It begins slowly devouring the light of the Earth's sun, plunging the planet into darkness. In the midst of all this, Hal grapples with his own “fall from grace.” He knows what he has done wrong, and just wants to put things right if he can. He and John are caught between two impossible choices – disobeying the Green Lantern Corps' orders not to intervene, or allowing their planet to suffer the consequences of their inaction. Ultimately they decide to step in and stop the cult of the Black Hand, only to find that their efforts are for naught. The Sun Eater has already been summoned, and it will take an extraordinary amount of light in order to destroy it. In the fight against the cult, Hal's ring is remotely deactivated by the GLC in order to prevent its use. John realizes it's up to him to stop the Sun Eater, but he doesn't know if he has what it takes. Realizing what must be done, Hal decides to take John's ring for himself and fly into space to face the Sun Eater in John's stead. He pours everything he has into the creature, overloading the Sun Eater, the ring, and himself with sheer light and power. As the power disintegrates Hal, he shouts his old oath one final time. On Earth below, John watches as the blackened sky turns dazzling green, and then fades back to a sunlit day. He realizes that Hal has sacrificed himself to save them all. Once again, John is brought to Oa for disciplinary action by the Guardians. However, John has no regrets for his actions, nor does he have any doubts as to Hal Jordan's true character. Grudgingly admitting that John made the proper judgment call, the Guardians reactivate Hal's old ring and pass it on to John. He is left as the sole Green Lantern of Earth, a responsibility that he solemnly accepts. John's final act of the series is to adopt Hal Jordan's old oath as his own – the same oath that he once accused of being “corny,” but now which he understands the true meaning and weight of. END

Welcome to the two hundredth and sixty-sixth episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast!  This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman #649 in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format. Final Night concludes! And the Sun Eater causes the sun to go nova, and everyone dies. End of show. Just kidding! The road to the end of Final Night begins with Mike and Jeff looking at Superman: The Man of Steel #62, which not only focuses on Superman helping the brave workers at the Metropolis power station get said station back on line after the roof collapses but also shows Professor Hamilton viewing the holograms of Jor-El trying to save the population of Krypton during the planet's final days. There's also a sub-plot of Perry and his family heading to the Daily Planet and putting out the next edition despite the power being out and the world potentially coming to an end. Then the boys look at Flash #119, Hitman #8, and Legion of Super-Heroes #86, because those issues seem to take place before the final issue of the main series. Then the rubber meets the road in Final Night #4, where Superman makes the decision to fly the ship that's going to take the thingy to stop the Sun Eater. He doesn't get the chance when Ferro Lad kind of, sort of steals the ship but even his attempts at self-sacrifice fall through when Hal Jordan decides that he is going to be the one to save the day. Finally, the boys chat about the final three crossover issues, which come in the form of Robin #35, Takion #6, and Spectre #47. (Continuing the march towards the wedding, here is a re-upload of an episode of FCTC's coverage of Final Night! Enjoy!) Welcome to the two hundredth and sixty-fifth episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast!  This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman #649 in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format. Final Night continues! This time out Mike and Jeff continue their coverage of Final Night by looking at the main books and crossovers that came out during Week Three! First up is Action Comics #727, which sees Superman doing a bit of a retro thing by jumping instead of flying. He's not doing it to be cool or old school, though. Nope. His powers continue to fade away as the sun continues to be consumed by the Sun Eater. Bad guys use the chaos to steal several Special Crimes Unit battle suits, which Superman has to deal with as an unnamed man has to make his way through a snow covered Metropolis and learns about the good and bad of humanity. Mike also gives a quick history lesson in the middle of the notes where he probably gets something wrong. Then, in Final Night #3, things go from bad to apocalyptic. Ted Knight, the Golden Age Starman, does some figuring and realizes that the diameter of the sun is off. It turns out that Sun Eater's feeding cycle involves causing the star it is eating to go nova, which is great for the Sun Eater, because it propels it to the next star, but is kind of bad for all life in the system the sun provides light for. Finally, the boys look at the other crossover issues which include Final Night Parallax Emerald Night #1, Superboy #33, Aquaman #26, and Detective Comics #703! Final Night begins! This time out Mike and Jeff kick off their coverage of Final Night by starting with an issue that bears the Final Night trade dress but has very little to do with the event. Superman #116 features Superman and Professor Hamilton heading to the Fortress to deal with the rapidly failing bottled city but trouble strikes when the Fortress defenses fail to recognize Superman as Kryptonian. Meanwhile, Lori Lemaris is confronted by WGBS and deals with it by jumping off the pier. Oh, and at the end Hamilton and Superman notice that Final Night has started. Then the boys cover the Final Night preview (which was originally a black and white freebie given out at comic shops) before diving into Final Night #1. An alien known as Dusk lands on Earth and is met by Superman, the SCU, and the time lost Legion of Super-Heroes. She warns them that a cosmic entity known as the Sun Eater will soon arrive in their solar system to…well, eat the sun…it's right there in the name…and just like that it arrives. The heroes band together to try and stop it but their efforts fail, causing the Sun Eater to latch on to the sun and temperatures on Earth to plummet. As the sky turns dark, Lex Luthor believes it is time to return to Metropolis. After that, Mike and Jeff briefly discuss Power of Shazam #20, Green Lantern #80, and Sovereign Seven #16. Hard to believe it's been a decade since Job For A Cowboy graced us with Sun Eater yet here we are on the eve of Moon Healer (Metal Blade) and we couldn't be more stoked for it if we tried. This band occupies a special spot for most of here on staff as they exemplify our varied tastes in death metal and all things extreme. With this album that statement couldn't be more true as it is wildly all over the map yet cohesive and heavy as lead at the same time. Ian screamed the loudest when the news dropped of a new album so it was the obvious choice to get him on with our podcast maestro Buke to discuss all things Job For A Cowboy with bassist Nick Schendzielos. The guys cover the obvious items but as per usual they cover a whole lot more so get comfy and settle in for a spell. Enjoy. 9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram

We also dive into subjects of self-discovery, ancient hallucinogenic, esoteric wisdom, and learn what the future hold for the band.

The iconic extreme experimental death metal line-up of Job For A Cowboy had some long-awaited unfinished business. After nearly nine long years of silence, they have awoken from their slumber, forging Moon Healer, the follow-up to their previous landmark album, Sun Eater. The new album will be released on February 23rd, 2024, via Metal Blade Records. Concerning Moon Healer, we said: Though let's clear something up, this is not just a Job for A Cowboy nostalgia run, I don't think the band would have bothered if they didn't have anything fresh to bring to the table. Especially as nine years is a very long time in music, and the metal world has been constantly moving forward. So, it is delightful to find Job for A Cowboy stepping up in so many areas to tower above many a pretender of the technical and progressive death metal sound. If you're hoping this album is as challenging as it is savage, you're in luck, because Moon Healer is undeniably this, and so much more. Read our full review here: https://www.gbhbl.com/album-review-job-for-a-cowboy-moon-healer-metal-blade-records/ We spoke to bassist Nick Schendzielos about the new album, the past decade and how Job for A Cowboy reached this point, nostalgia and its dangers, moving forward and being fresh, the power of the bass, and so much more. HEAVY Music Interviews

Interview by Kris PetersIn the modern age of music, it is important - almost vital - to maintain a steady output of music and engagement with your fans. People's increasingly shorter attention spans, coupled with the sheer volume of new bands and music being released daily, combine to ensure bands that aren't active, don't survive.Pure and simple. But try telling that to experimental death metal outfit Job For A Cowboy, who have let a staggering ten years elapse between records. The band have taken their time in following up the critically acclaimed 2014 release Sun Eater, preferring to patiently harness their creative impulses and allow them to ferment until the band was happy. The result is Moon Healer, set for release on February 23, an album that maintains the rage and aggression associated with Job For A Cowboy's music, but also expands on their conventional sound. It is an album that has already garnered immense interest and positive reaction from critics who have heard it, and marks but one more step on Job For A Cowboy's path to musical enlightenment.Vocalist Jonny Davy sat down for a chat with HEAVY to tell us more."This band has been around, shockingly - although it doesn't feel like it - for a good 20 years," he began. "After about a ten-year hiatus, we're about to come out with our new album called Moon Healer. I am pumped."We ask what the period is like after finishing an album and having to sit by and wait for it to be unleashed on the public."At this point, it's in the past," he replied. "We've taken a break from it, and in hindsight we're looking back already and seeing what we would have done differently, or talking about what we want to do for the next record. It's been a long, long, arduous process, but we're finally here."We ask Davy about the musical side of Moon Healer and what the band was going for sonically."The band has evolved quite a bit since its origins," he measured. "We kinda started off pretty much as a cookie cutter deathcore band, and then we progressed into more modern death metal and after the release of Genesis we started sprinkling in the genres like technical death metal and now even some progressive elements. I think a lot of people recognise the band is kind of a cauldron of an evolution of sound, and that's our motto right now. We like to challenge, and we're the type of band who don't wanna put out the same record twice."In the full interview, Jonny talks more about Moon Healer, the singles released and how they represent the album, the opening track The Chemical Doorway and its Middle Eastern flavour, the temptation of repeating the formula that made Sun Eater successful, what has changed with Job For A Cowboy since that album, the conceptual elements of Moon Healer, the cover art and how it ties in with the concept, how Job For A Cowboy have changed musically over each album, future plans and more.

JOB FOR A COWBOY frontman Jonny Davy and EXIT EDEN co-vocalist Anna Brunner join us for this week's edition of The Loaded Radio Podcast This week on the Loaded Radio Podcast Scott Penfold sits down first with JOB FOR A COWBOY vocalist Jonny Davy to discuss the death metal outfit's latest album "Moon Healer". “Moon Healer” is set for release on February 23rd via Metal Blade Records. The release marks JOB FOR A COWBOY‘s first new full-length in a decade! “Moon Healer” is a vivid illustration of what happens when creativity, aggression, and volatility tangle for the first time in years. Like the band's critically adored, 2014-released “Sun Eater” offering, “Moon Healer” is musically multifaceted, unabashedly brutal, and compellingly conceptual. Featuring a newly refreshed and reinspired lineup of frontman and co-founder Jonny Davy, guitarists Tony Sannicandro and Al Glassman, bassist Nick Schendzielos, and drummer (since 2020) Navene Koperweis, the band seamlessly picks up the mantle where JOB FOR A COWBOY‘s “Sun Eater” left off. Compared to past offerings, “Moon Healer” is as bone-crushing as JOB FOR A COWBOY has ever been. But it's more consistent and conceptual, composed with the utmost enthusiasm and confidence. “The evolution of our sound has become a big part of the band,” Davy says. “As we mature as musicians, our tastes and interests naturally expand. With age comes more experience and ideas that we wouldn't have considered in our earlier years.” “Moon Healer” was produced by Jason Suecof (DEATH ANGEL, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, DEICIDE) at his Audiohammer Studios and is the first JOB FOR A COWBOY album to feature session drummer Navene Koperweis (ex-Animosity). Davy previously worked with Koperweis in the progressive death metal side project FLESHWROUGHT, which released Dementia/Dyslexia through Metal Blade in 2010. Koperweis also worked as a session drummer for MACHINE HEAD and WHITECHAPEL and is currently in the band ENTHEOS, whose third full-length came out on Metal Blade in March 2023. In the second portion of the podcast, Scott sits down with Anna Brunner from EXIT EDEN. Symphonic metal unit EXIT EDEN, consisting of Clémentine Delauney (VISIONS OF ATLANTIS), Anna Brunner (LEAGUE OF DISTORTION) and Marina La Torraca (PHANTOM ELITE) recently released their second album, “Femmes Fatales” via Napalm Records. “Femmes Fatales” includes 12 songs in total — half covers, half original compositions. EXIT EDEN‘s new release follows the band's debut, 2017's “Rhapsodies In Black”, which garnered millions of video views (12 million on EXIT EDEN‘s cover of Bonnie Tyler‘s “Total Eclipse Of The Heart” alone). Previous singles from “Femmes Fatales”, “Run!” (featuring ex-NIGHTWISH bassist/vocalist Marko Hietala) and “Separate Ways” (JOURNEY cover) have already surpassed a million views since their respective releases in October and December 2023. Now performing as a trio, EXIT EDEN‘s new full-length follows the path of its predecessor, as it contains six cover versions of famous cross-generational super-hits, but this time also shines by offering six original compositions. With one exception (“Dying In My Dreams”, co-written by Marina La Torraca),the remaining five original songs were brought to life by Brunner and Hannes Braun (KISSIN' DYNAMITE),who is also responsible for recording, production and mixing, whereas the album was mastered by Jacob Hansen (DELAIN, AMARANTHE, VOLBEAT, DESTRUCTION and many more). Self-confidently leading straight into the tempting world of EXIT EDEN, opening “Femme Fatale”, “Buried In The Past” and “Hold Back Your Fear” conjure a mystical atmosphere with strings and orchestral elements, topped by complementary vocals uniting the sonic diversity of the all-femme trio. “Dying In My Dreams” and album closing “Elysium” set the tone as captivating mid-tempo tracks with intense choruses that speak straight to the heart.

Rogue waves are fun and terrifying; they are rare giant waves that can capsize boats. A 58 foot high wave, three times the height of the waves around it was recorded by a buoy in 2020. Rogue waves were thought to be ocean folklore until an 85 foot wave struck an oil-drilling platform in 1995. The intensity of rogue waves are measured against 'normal' waves around them. The parrots were taught to make calls to other dometic parrots using Facebook Messenger. The researchers wondered if given the choice, would the birds call each other? The answer is yes. Strong social dynamics started to appear. The calls lasted 5 minutes, and some of the birds created strong bonds (and still call each other after the study). Devon questions how making a video call is different from the 'mirror test'. Did pirates domesticate parrots? Devon is "well read" because of South Park and The Simpsons.  https://news.northeastern.edu/2023/04/21/parrots-talking-video-calls/    Science Fiction: Devon is reading and listening to Sun Eater series: Empire of Silence which is well written but borrows liberally from other scifi. In this throwback episode, I officially get publicly and loudly angry about The Last Jedi. Seriously, though, paying homage to those masters who came before you is probably a better strategy than... whatever the heck the Last Jedi was... But this is more than Star Wars, people. I'm talking about the best new Sci-fi series I've read in a long time, the thing I WISH Star Wars would be more like. It's called The Sun Eater series by Christopher Ruochhio.

Thank goodness for books. And one of the best new series I've read in a long time is Christopher Ruocchio's Sun Eater. In this interview, we talk about his influences, why sci-fi is such an important genre for our time, why Jordan Peterson helped him write and live better, and what it means to be human in an increasingly post-human age.

It's never easy to believe in someone or something that, on occasion, you disagree with. The natural tendency is to shy-away from conflict, from those uncomfortable moments. But, as you'll hear in my conversation with Christopher Ruocchio, author of the incredible Sun Eater series, sometimes loyalty transcends disagreement. In a time where disagreements are rampant, political, moral, ethical and otherwise, it behooves us to find our loyalties and rise above the chaos. Hadrian and his Red Company have been serving the Empire in military engagements against the Cielcin, the vicious alien civilisation bent on humanity's destruction. And they've been successful: a cult-like fervour building around Hadrian following a particularly impressive victory. But popularity comes at a price: an assassination attempt, triggered by those within the Imperial government who are scared of his rise to prominence. Now the Empire has turned dangerous, Hadrian and his crew leave to pursue his true interest: a search for a long-rumoured connection between the first Emperor and the Quiet: the ancient, seemingly long-dead race. And he will find the next key to unlocking their secrets in a massive library on a distant world. The coordinates for their origin planet. A planet that no longer holds life, but may still contain answers. 'Empire of Silence is epic science fiction at its most genuinely epic. Ruocchio has made something fascinating here, and I can't wait to see what he does next' James S.A. Corey, New York Times-bestselling author of The Expanse novels 'Empire of Silence is a rich tapestry of future history and worldbuilding, a galactic-sized story of a hero, a tyrant, but portrayed as a man' Kevin J. It seems as if all things are leading back to Lex Luthor. Can the Man of Tomorrow wage war on Gods who have been causing chaos since the dawn of time? One thing seems certain. He is determined to try. When the Sun Eater attempted to consume the center of our solar system the electricity went out. In the prison three inmates were trapped in an elevator. When claustrophobia consumes one of the inmates, Klaus, he turns violent despite the non nocere protocol. What is Lena missing here and how can she repair it? The human brain is a complex organ. When a threat is perceived then the brain evolves and goes into survival mode. The result is a prison riot. Agent Dox is a twelfth level intellect so he knows Lex is hiding things from him. When he removed his inhibitors Brainy learned that to defeat Leviathan he would have to work with and trust Lex. As time goes on Brainy is beginning to have doubts. How much longer can Agent Dox play both sides of the game? Did the Big Brain have nefarious intentions when they gave Brainy the advice to work with Lex? Alex and Kara go to meet Pete an expert in linguistics and iconography. They hope that his knowledge will help them determine where Leviathan will attack next. It becomes immediately apparent that whenever the symbol of Leviathan has surfaced throughout history catastrophic events have followed. Before they can uncover more information Kara is called away and Alex and Pete are chased out by an unknown gunman. William has discovered that the person who recorded Margot Morrison’s maniphesto video was using an image inducer. Maybe it is the mysterious employee who appears to have been working closely with Leviathan while also employed at Obsidian North. Kelly remains nervous about the virtual reality lenses. This is understandable considering Alex and hundreds of other innocent people were stuck in a fantasy world of their own design. Andrea insists that she has personally fixed the problem and the platform is safe. Nothing is going to stop the Worldwide Unity Festival that has been scheduled. If Kelly continues to push she may lose her job and more importantly her access to what is going on inside Obsidian. Lena has pushed the limits of her friendship with Kara. After the events at the Fortress, Supergirl is seeing red every time her name is mentioned. The truth of the matter is that Kara is probably more hurt than angry. Why did her friend believe she was using Myriad to hurt her? Lena jumped to conclusions just when Kara was starting to have hope that their friendship could be repaired. Lex proves to Lena that he has not really changed. He is not the hero the world now perceives him to be. Perhaps she has chosen wrong but it is not to late to ally with the other side. Just because Lex is a monster doesn’t mean she has to be. Lex Luthor discards what he no longer deems useful. Let it go up in flames like the prison. Hopefully Lena makes the decision in time to switch teams before her brother’s mayhem consumes her. What about Brainy? Will Lex dispose of him when he no longer serves a purpose? Nia tells Brainy that he can’t play both sides forever. Dreamer uncovers some secrets as she slumbers. Her vision leads both teams to Oregon. Supergirl and Rama Khan have a battle of Earth shattering consequences. J’onn and M'gann minimize the damage from below using their terraform abilities. Agent Dox shuts out the super friends insisting that Rama Khan be taken to the DEO. The DEO is right where the villain wants to be. Supergirl tries to subdue Rama Khan but the tables are turned. Rama Khan draws all the kryptonite to himself incapacitating the Girl of Steel. The DEO is reduced to a pile of rubble and Rama Khan has escaped. Leviathan now has kryptonite and a stolen weapon from the Fortress of Solitude. Andrea is adamant the Worldwide Unity Festival will take place. The good news is everyone seems safe for now. Lena wants to help defeat Lex and Leviathan. Will Lex’s invitation to the ship be all that he hopes for? What will happen to the citizens of Earth as they converge in a virtual space? Who kidnapped William? One thing I know for sure is that your eye in the sky Green Butterfly will tell you the latest as this story flies to its conclusion.

During the Crisis on Infinite Earths Lex helped the other heroes save the World. Lex is always a man looking for an opening. He is always looking for an opportunity to do things his way. The Multiverse has become one. Lex Luthor is now branded a hero. He is the recipient of a Nobel Peace Prize. Lex the man of tomorrow who still can’t let go of yesterday. Margot is dead. Will this shed any light on the mysterious organization she worked for? Lex is two steps ahead. Lex successfully links Margot with Amy Sapphire. Amy is the woman who blames Obsidian for her husband's demise. Technology is painted as the villain and Leviathan can remain safely tucked in the shadows. This does not make Leviathan immune to Lex’s manipulations. Miss Tesmacher is going to be a valuable pawn in this game. She has been working as a Leviathan assassin. Leviathan has killed her father and threatens the life of her mother. Lex promises to protect Miss Tesmacher’s mother. Miss Tessmacher is now on the Platinum Project at Obsidian. She can be Lex’s eyes and ears in Obsidian. Intelligence gathered from Obsidian will be the key to earning a place into Leviathan’s inner circle. If you want to take an organization down a good place to strike is on the inside. Agent Dox heads to the tower with the solution our Super Friends are looking for. Myriad can change the Q waves so that J’onn can find the missing people. One problem is solved but the creature that just passed the window could threaten the entire solar system. How did the Sun Eater get out of the Fortress of Solitude? Lex needs something to cause panic to motivate people to enter virtual reality in mass amounts. A creature that eats the Sun should do the trick right? The help we need now is truly not of this world. Thank goodness Malefic heard the distress via the Q waves and sent M’gann to help. The hydrogen weapons on her ship should be able to help against this star eating monster. In space J’onn loses his grip on the explosive device and is nearly hurled into the Sun. Supergirl arrives in the Lexosuit, explodes the hydrogen, and reduces the Sun Eater to a much more manageable size. Lena is so angry when she realizes that Myriad is being used. Supergirl had told her it was too dangerous to leave the Fortress. Lena feels it is being used against her to interrupt the frequency she is using for Non Nocere. Myriad is being used because it was the only option to help find Leviathan victims, not to thwart Lena Luthor. Her brother is behind this as well of course. He doesn’t want his sister close to the Kryptonian. This should prevent Lena from going to game night anytime soon. Lex wants his sister on his side at least as long as it suits his purpose. Lillian Luthor is afraid her son is distracted. She warns him of repeating past mistakes. His obsession with taking down Kryptonians has killed him before. In this World he has a lot of power. This World views him as a hero. His mother does not want his judgement clouded by a vendetta, however as I said before Lex is set on doing this his way. He refuses to back down. He says that he must destroy Supergirl but he is a mortal man and many mortals have tried. When this is all over Lex Luthor hopes to transcend mortality. He wants to live forever. He wants to be a God. Can Supergirl withstand the wrath of a God? What will Lex do now that he has entered the Kryptonian sanctuary? Lena said Lex in the Fortress would be chaos and I fear she is right.

Welcome back you amazing people and get ready for the last half of one of the best, and most underrated, crossover events of the 1990's, The Final Night! In fact, this story is so awesome, I'm not even covering a Green Lantern comic this time out. But that doesn't mean that Kyle Rayner is absent from the story, as he and the rest of Earth's heroes desparately try to save the planet from the Sun Eater. However, the consequences are dire as The Man of Steel is all but powerless, Kyle is out of the picture, and even the genius of Brainiac and Luthor (well, smug arrogance of Luthor) can't come up with a solution. In the end, the Earth's fate rests in the hands of a fallen hero who still might not be up to the task. It is truly an epic story that ends with a renewal of heroism that rivals the sacrifices made by others in the Crisis on Infinite Earths. And because of the scope of this story, as well as it's ties to a similar story with the Legion of Superheroes, I have brought along podcaster extraordinaire J. David Weter (host of PADSmash: An Incredible Hulk Podcast and co-host of Superman in the Bronze Age) to fill you in on just who the heck this Ferro kid is and how he relates to the actual Ferro Lad. It's like a Michael Bay/Roland Emmerich movie in comics form, except it isn't an assault on your intelligence. Happy Friday, dear listeners! You've just downloaded the latest episode of Just One of the Guys and you're preparing to hear about one of the best, and most underappreciated, crossover events of the 1990's: Final Night. This was a four issue event that dealt with an alien entity called the Sun Eater who entered Earth's solar system to...well, eat the Sun. And all of Earth's heroes are powerless to do anything about it, especially the Man of Steel, who is the most affected by the loss of the Sun. Plus we'll also take a look at the Green Lantern issue that ties in with the story. In the book Kyle deals with (pre-rapey) Dr Light, Donna Troy, and the fact that even as the weilder of the most powerful weapon in the universe, he might not be able to save the planet. It's the first part of a story that has Roland Emmerich levels of destruction written all over it, except this story is actually good.
