Scott and Susan's new book, Future Cultures, focuses on integrating futures thinking into existing organizational contexts rather than forcing entirely new practices. They emphasize understanding and mapping current networks, language, and processes first and identifying and cultivating diverse champions at multiple levels to spread ideas. In the book, they recommend starting small with regular gatherings to share signals of change. They also provide tactics like writing future scenarios to envision desired cultures. Their framework layers in complexity to meet an organization's specific readiness. We had a great conversation, discussing the way Future Cultures reveals a practical approach for integrating strategic futures thinking into organizations. It includes case studies and a layered framework, providing leadership with a methodical guide to adopt prospective practices tailored to their existing culture. By starting small to build demand and embedding foresight into operations, executives can complement planning with futures-oriented capacity vital for innovation and resilience. Quotes of Impact [03:12 – 03:29] “I feel like a fish out of the water again, but that's good because you should be scared– you're going to learn something. What you guys have done in a week and a half or two weeks to help me has just been amazing.” [09:28 – 09:47] “It's amazing. It's double the expertise, it's double the fun. I love the collaboration because each of you [Carmen & Deirdre] brings a different perspective to it, and you have a unique way of figuring things out, but you come together and it's wonderful.” [12:25 – 12:39] “You were able to really craft this workshop in a way that you provide a safe space for women to be able to unburden themselves of this kind of emotional baggage that they had been carrying with them their entire lives.” [14:36 – 15:05] “Still even in their 50s, 60s, and 70s, women have body image problems. It's no different than the seventh-grade lunch table because people are mean about it…Women were not afraid to kind of get in touch with their feelings, something they haven't done in a long time. That really started the positive momentum of the workshop.” [15:53 – 16:14] “This workshop may have been a lot of work, in the beginning, to put together the strategy and put it all together, but now it's a rinse and repeat process because you run it again and again. And this is the model that Carmen and I came up with. We've been doing this for a year and a half now and we found that it's so valuable.” [19:10 – 19:39] “I still feel this way, I'm on the precipice of greatness because now that the connection that is made between your authenticity and what you have to offer, it's magic. These women know what they're doing. Anyone who is not on board, you need to get on board.” If you're looking for the same one-on-one guidance that has helped Susan make such great strides in such a short period of time, book a no-pressure call with us here: https://calendly.com/d/ck7-6m6-wmb/business-coaching-consultation-call Connect with Susan Cox! There were many red flags with Joshua Powell even before he married a young cosmetologist by the name of Susan Cox. Controlling and with a propensity towards violence he also had a serious issues with spending and quickly landed the young couple in huge debt. Joshua’s father was also a disturbing player in the couple’s relationship, regularly overstepping the mark with his daughter in law, before a series of events took a truly horrible, chilling turn. This is a rebroadcast of the original episode of Gangrey: The Podcast, featuring Justin Heckert. It originally aired in January 2013. Heckert talked with host Matt Tullis about his story “The Hazards of Growing Up Painlessly,” which ran in The New York Times Magazine in November 2012. The story is about a 13-year-old girl who has a medical condition that makes it so she can’t feel pain. Since joining the podcast, Heckert has reported and written a lot of other amazing stories. His story, “Susan Cox is No Longer Here,” ran in Indianapolis Monthly, and was later republished by River Teeth: A Journal of Nonfiction Narrative. It’s a haunting piece that looks at what happens when life, and death, don’t go the way we expect it to. In March 2014, he wrote a piece on Puddles the Clown for Grantland. In July 2018, he wrote about the last Blockbuster video store for The Ringer. And in August, he wrote about a year-long quest to save an injured loggerhead turtle. That story ran in Garden & Gun magazine. Tullis also interviewed Heckert a second time in 2015 when he did an annotation of his Men’s Journal story “Lost in the Waves” for Nieman Storyboard. Heckert has written for dozens of magazines, including Esquire, GQ, ESPN The Magazine, Men’s Journal, and Sports Illustrated. He has twice been named the City and Regional Magazine Association’s writer of the year.
After enduring an abusive childhood in which Josh is essentially raised by his father to be a sociopath, his foray into the real world finds him unprepared to become a man. Faced with the choice to grow up or continue his increasingly antisocial behavior to full-blown sociopathy in adulthood, Josh travels the road that leads to darkness. Before long, he marries a young woman named Susan Cox, and their life slowly descends into a nightmare, until one day she disappears ... and never returns. Join host Ryan Kraus for a psychological examination of the events leading up to that fateful event. Part II of a 3-part series.
Susan Cox married Josh Powell after only 6 months of courtship. She immediately found herself under the lens of her father-in-law Steven Powell's video camera. The camcorder even captured Steve's confession of love for his daughter-in-law Susan Powell in July of 2013. She rejected him, not realizing he had stalked her and stolen her journals, underwear and hygiene products. For the past three years, investigative reporter Dave Cawley has been studying thousands of police documents, journals, videos, and diary entries. He has tracked down new sources, followed new leads, and traced Josh Powell's trail from West Valley City, Utah, through Idaho, Oregon, Nevada, and on to Washington State, where he killed himself and his two sons. Josh Powell believed in his own greatness from at least age 5. So why wouldn't any girls date him? Why did his only other serious girlfriend before Susan Cox run away in fear? Perhaps because he inherited some of his father Steven Powell's bizarre beliefs about relationships and marriage. This episode tells the story of the one who got away from Josh Powell, a full decade before the disappearance of Susan Powell made him the focus of a multi-state murder investigation. For the past three years, investigative reporter Dave Cawley has been studying thousands of police documents, journals, videos, and diary entries. Welcome to North America CR Radio. In this episode, we have with us Susan Cox, sharing information about Holt International. Capgemini recently announced plans to partner with Holt International as part of our global initiative to Touch 1 Million Lives By 2020. Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reports that we are now witnessing the highest levels of displacement on record. An unprecedented 65.3 million people around the world have been forced from home. Among them are nearly 21.3 million refugees, over half of whom are under the age of 18. In a world where nearly 34,000 people are forcibly displaced every day as a result of conflict or persecution, Susan Cox makes a poignant statement about the importance of home and the heartbreak of losing our place in the world. Informed and inspired by her background in architecture, Cox’s cast glass forms reveal her unique understanding of the correlation between light and space. The artist considers elements that define the concept of "home," including the evanescent qualities of childhood memories and the lifelong moments of looking back and looking forward. She explores the landscape where we feel most at peace or at home, as well as the act of individualizing a home to identify and make our own. Cox’s sculpture triggers examination of the home within each of us. Working at her kiln and casting studio in Pound Ridge, New York, Cox earned a Master’s degree in architecture from Columbia University. In 2009 she turned to glass as a more immediate means of exploring ideas about light, space, and memory. In 2014, Cox was awarded a four-month residency at Bullseye Resource Center, Mamaroneck, New York, and was selected as an “E-merge” finalist. In 2015, she was honored by ArtsWestchester as one of their “50 For 50” artist’s, recognizing 50 outstanding artists living or working in Westchester County. Cox had her first solo exhibition "Finding Home," held December 3, 2016 through April 4, 2017 at View Art Center, in Old Forge, New York.

If you re at home right now, maybe you ve got some yogurt in the refrigerator. If you re in the car, you might have a pen in the cup holder. Probably one of those free pens you got from a bank, or an insurance company, or the plumber. And if you re at your desk, you more than likely have a computer keyboard in front of you. All these items have something in common. The keyboard has keys with letters printed on them. The pen has a name and phone number printed on it. And the yogurt has a pastoral scene and the container s contents printed on it. All this printing is done by specialized printers that transfer ink onto all these various odd shaped surfaces. One of these printing methods is called Ink jet. And one of the well known brands of inkjet printing is LogoJet. In 2015 Logojet was named by Inc. Magazine as one of the fastest growing companies in America. Previous companies who have made it onto this list include Pandora, Toys R Us, and 7 11. Unlike these other companies, LogoJet is right here in Lafayette. Its founder and president is Susan Cox. Long before anyone had figured out to how to put a logo on a plastic yogurt container, people were putting images on flat surfaces like canvas. They used a much slower and more painstaking method. A small brush. Coming up with an idea, painting it onto canvas, framing it with wood, and selling it that s a business model that s stood the test of time. Even though we can print thousands of images an hour, or steal them off the internet, we still greatly value original, hand created paintings of artists. Especially those whose work records and reflects our unique culture. Like the striking and beautiful paintings of Lafayette artist, Herb Roe. This is a fascinating conversation that demonstrates the incredible breadth of businesses and occupations in Acadiana. It s also a great lesson in the science of oil painting, the nature of entrepreneurship, and the triumph of love over all. Photos at Cafe Vermilionville by Gwen Aucoin. This week, Gangrey: The Podcast gets a makeover. This week’s episode has three segments, starting with Nathan Thornburgh, a chief editor and publisher of the website roadsandkingdoms.com. Thornburgh spent much of the last decade as a foreign correspondent and editor for TIME Magazine. He’s reported on everything from cyber war in Russia to information wars in Georgia – not the state Georgia, by the way — to drug wars in Juarez. He also co-founded the parenting blog DadWagon. We’re going to talk about his story, “The Root of All Things.” Mike Wilson mentioned the story in Episode 34 and said he had been told about the piece by one of his reporters at the Dallas Morning News. The story is also going to be republished in River Teeth: A Journal of Nonfiction Narrative this fall. Last spring, River Teeth republished Justin Heckert’s “Susan Cox is No Longer Here,” which originally ran in Indianapolis Monthly Magazine. In the second segment, I talk with David Caswell. Caswell has created a new news database called Structured Stories. He hopes the database will empower everyone to collect, use and improve a permanent record of news events. Finally, the third segment will be something new called “Required Reading.” This week, I’ll tell you about two stories I’ve recently read that I think everyone should also read. The stories are “Ballad of the Sad Climatologists,” by John H. Richardson, which ran in Esquire. The other story is “The Really Big One,” by Katherine Schultz, which ran in The New Yorker. In the future, though, we hope podcast listeners will contribute to this segment. We’ll have more posted on the website about how to get involved.
