It’s always a thrill to catch up with a former guest, especially one who has been super-successful in chasing dreams and achieving goals. Today’s guest appeared on Episode 18--way back in 2015. Let’s check in and see what’s new! From the chauffeur seat to the C-suite, Tony Woodall has used his Goal Getting program to go from 50 to 32 in waist size and is in better shape now than he was in his 30’s. He’s become a master at achieving his goals and helping his clients do the same. As a coach, speaker, consultant, and the author of 9 Steps to Successful Goal Achievement, Tony proves that you’re never too old to achieve your goals and dreams. This host of the Goal Getting podcast has inspired and helped people reach their high-performance goals, and he’s worked with realtors, lenders, bankers, and other corporations to reach their potential and beyond. Making a commitment Where have you made the biggest commitment? Like many people, Tony has battled weight gain for much of his life. Within the past year, he’s dropped from 300 lbs. to 185 and increased his level of physical fitness and overall health. Why has the weight loss process been different this time? Tony explains that the most significant difference has been the commitment he made to himself, most notably in writing a commitment letter, a promissory note of sorts, that he wrote to himself. The motivation for the letter was diabetes, high blood pressure, and other problems as his 60th birthday approached. He says that he wanted to take the money he spent on medications and use it for traveling, having fun, and enjoying life. The key was simple, although not easy: “Eat less, exercise more, and overcome bad habits.” TWEET: “Eat less, exercise more, and overcome bad habits.” @TonyWCMB #chasingdreams Every little step is progress Does achieving a goal bring you happiness? We all know the joy and satisfaction that come from accomplishments. Tony acknowledged this happiness every time he met small goals along the way of his journey to better health. He says that the ability to grow and see progress is a need that humans have. Every little step toward a goal is a positive moment that deserves a reward. Seeing those small steps gives you the momentum to keep moving forward. Tony was even able to start running, which was something he never thought he could do. He says, “Once you realize what you CAN do, that’s when things change.” TWEET: “Once you realize what you CAN do, that’s when things change.” @TonyWCMB #chasingdreams No more excuses Do you make excuses as to why you can’t accomplish specific goals? Tony was used to making excuses as to why he couldn’t do certain things because he was fat and overweight. As a result of chasing his weight loss and fitness goals, Tony now has the motivation to step out toward accomplishing other goals in his life. One example of that is in personal relationships. Tony now has the mentality to try something new as a ripple effect of the dreams he has already chased.  Guest Recommendation: ONE action for a dream chaser to take: “Set your goal. Write it down. Don’t let anyone stop you. Your choice of decisions is what will rule your life.” OUTLINE OF THIS EPISODE: [:33] The biggest accomplishments for Tony since 2015 [3:07] The challenge of weight loss [6:46] “Taming the tiger” [7:57] Overcoming obstacles [10:14] Facing temptation head on [12:12] Setting goals [13:07] The correlation between accomplishing a goal and happiness [15:37] Tony’s journey: past and present [19:54] Taking on a new journey [23:17] Making changes in other areas [25:59] Don’t neglect the small dreams [28:04] The impact we have on others [30:39] The satisfaction we get from achieving our goals [34:38] ONE action for a dream chaser RESOURCES MENTIONED: http://aimeej21.com/episode18   Hear Tony’s previous episode! "Self-awareness is the gateway to all personal growth." - Tony Woodall Today I talk to Tony Woodall, the founder of Rootstock, about building self-awareness through DISC assessments in the areas of: Dominance - How you handle problems Influence - How you win people over Steadiness - How you pace your life Compliance - How you handle rules set by others By utilizing the DISC assessment, remodelers can strengthen themselves and their teams by: Recognizing your strengths and weaknesses  Raising awareness within your team so that you can manage effectively Using the DISC assessment as part of your hiring process Here's a copy of my DISC mentioned in the episode:  Tony is the founder of Rootstock, a company dedicated to helping organizations multiple brand value by developing strong leaders. Call or email Tony at 630-338-6018 or twoodall@irootstock.com Like many companies, Rootstock was born out of passion and necessity. During his twenty years of delivering substantial bottom-line results in sales, marketing and brand strategy - Tony “kind of stunk” (his words) as a leader. He “wasn’t the worst leader of all time” (his words again) but after falling short yet again to get his teams to gel, he took a break from leading and went back to '“just selling”. Over time a nagging feeling that he had to get back to leading got the better of him. Humbled by his shortcomings, he sought to learn. Early in the journey he became utterly obsessed with all things leaders and team. He uncovered game-changing resources, new methods and great mentors along the way. He became thoroughly convinced that there are a vital few skills and methods that, when combined and applied, get uncommon results. He assembled a powerful tool kit. He’s now dedicating his life and career helping values-driven organizations develop great leaders and unleash the power of their teams.

Thanks for listening, and be a yes-sayer to what is. Ivan Coyote's "Hats Off" to Femmes If you've listened to this podcast, you know that Bob and I can very critical of bad religion, especially bad Christianity. We would like nothing more than for it to eliminated and something we look back on someday soon as the silly phase in human history where we believed that shit. However, in the meantime, we occasionally like to highlight when Christianity is done right. In the four years we've been on the air, we've had numerous brave Christian guests in here who have learned to navigate this faith that most commonly corrupts otherwise good people with its fear-ridden, insecurity-appealling dogma that brings out the worst in its adherents. But the Christians we've had on here, like David Dark, Tony Woodall, Stan Mitchell, George Cunningham, Mary and Julia in episodes 4 and 5, Jim Henderson, Benjamin Corey, Jennifer Crumpton, Becky Garrison, Geoff Little, Krista Tippet, Brian Quincy Newcomb, Angela Pancella, William Paul Young, Angela Cantorna, Charlie Smith, and many others who have retained portions of their previous held beliefs while rejecting others, they were willing to bring their stories in here and showed us that there are ways to practice Christianity that truly make the world a better place and don't turn them into assholes. That's certainly the case with our guest today, Anne Marie. In a small way, this is us adopting the "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" mindset. As we oil the wheels of deconversion and #emptythepews, we also applaud those who, while practicing some form of faith, have not forfeited their intelligence and agency to a false, insecure, jealous, and small God. They celebrate rather than shame what it means to be human. Unlike the majority of their fellow Christians, they do not bury their heads in the sand, and they say yes to what is. Okay, I found a YouTube of someone reciting the poem to which Anne Marie just referred.  The voice here is apparently a lesbian that presents as masculine, perhaps even trans, it's not clear and I'm reluctant to presume but do so to give you a picture of what's happening because it is relevant. I highly value empathy and compassion, and often these virtues are best attained by putting one's self either in the shoes of those we don't understand or at least listening with an ear to learn. My understanding is that the poem is addressing the fact that some lesbians are butch and/or trans men and some are feminine. This is a world that I do not know. And so I insert here a recitation of the poem by Ivan Coyote titled "Hat's Off. Again, that's a poem called "Hats Off" by Ivan Coyote, a trans man, found in his book, "Missed Her."  And now we return to the tail end our talk with Anne Marie. We had some technical difficulty at the end and so it abruptly starts. So that's our talk with Anne Marie Zanzal. Bob and I enjoyed getting to know her. What a tough story. Lots of strength. Lots of courage. Lots of pain. Getting real, getting honest can be really hard work when we're trapped inside false narratives--strong, reinforced, lots of rebar type cemented narratives. Like Han Solo frozen in that giant ice cube and everyone around, also immobilized by self-denying, self-suppressing constraints, doing their best to ignore the cement or wanting everyone to remain incased in it, lest they upend the social construct. But good on you, Anne Marie, or Emery. Congratuations. You know, one thing that makes this so hard is, not only the personal pain, but the pain that getting honest is going to cause others--often those near and dear to us. In fact, while one is getting out of pain, others experience pain. But I think its important to keep in mind that the one getting free, getting honest DID NOT CAUSE THE PAIN. The false narratives cause the pain. Coming out gay or coming out atheist to your loved ones is only painful for them because of the beliefs to which they hold. And they hold them by their own volition...kinda. (that's debatable). But no matter how innocent they're indoctrination was, they are responsible to listen to THEIR own hearts and moral compasses, and ALSO have the courage to do their own breaking out of the lying concrete ideologies that demand allegiance at the price of betraying their own children or friends or siblings. When being a kind, loving person is mutualy exclusive to being faith to your creed, it's time to punt your fucking creed. This is not rocket science. Follow your heart, like Anne Marie is did, and is doing. It's NOT decietful. You're not wicked. You can and must trust yourself, especially more than you trust someone else's made up, over-confident, erection of certainty and projected image of a god to whom one must bow the knee and surrender their freedom and agency. Hell, the word Islam means surrender. The Christians sing "I Surrender All." Bullshit. Surrender nothing to imaginary narratives that are pure speculations derived from anecdotal personal experiences. Stick to evidence and the scientifc method of questioning everything. We are so prone to getting shit wrong that if we don't remain humble and teachable we are doomed to be encased, trapped, imprisoned in a lie to which we pledge allegience and devotion, all the while thinking we've attained the only truth and look down upon anyone who doesn't share in it. Doubly decieved. Doubly duped. and doubly paralyzed to do anything about it. Okay, that's my rant. One quick announcement, Bob only has two more shows with us, the last one of which I will feature your tributary comments and farewells. You can Love Bomb Bob by calling 1 (800) 685-1797 that's 1 (800) 685-1797. I'll repeat that again at the end. I’ve set up a voice mailbox for you to call in and give a toast or tribute to Bob as he’s leaving the show. You may want to write out what you want to say before calling or just wing it. Either way, try to keep it under 30 seconds, unless you really want to pile on the love and go longer, but the average message should be under 30 seconds. Address him in first person, like “Hey Bob (or Dr. Pondillo or Dr. Bob, whatever), I just want to say…” It can be silly or serious, or both, you can mimic him, try to sound like him, and/or share some of your favorite Bob-isms or quips. I reserve the right to edit your message. You can say your name or not. I’d like it if you would say where you’re calling from (at least the State). TAKE TIME TO PULL THE WEEDS FROM YOUR LIFE THAT KEEP YOUR GARDEN FROM BLOOMING TO ITS GREATEST BEAUTY. ~TONY WOODALL   [bctt tweet=" SPRING CLEANING - TAKE TIME TO PULL THE WEEDS FROM YOUR LIFE THAT KEEP YOUR GARDEN FROM BLOOMING TO ITS GREATEST BEAUTY. ~TONY WOODALL" username="GoalsPodcast"] Spring Cleaning - I was reminded by a text yesterday about the need for Spring Cleaning. Yes, it's springtime and spring is a time in of renewal, rebirth, revitalizing. Spring Cleaning is almost a ritual at this time of year - as we often need to look at the things around us and think, "Do they still work in our gardens, our homes, and in our lives. The Spring is a great time to review our goals and if you made them, New Year's Resolutions. If you made New Year's Resolutions, most people have forgotten them already, or have given up on them by now. Have you? If you set goals for the first quarter, where are you? Are you almost complete? Are you still tracking them with your action plan? Maybe it's spring cleaning time in your life. Look at your life. What parts of your life, your garden of ideas and dreams, need some weeding? What closet in your mental house - your passions, need cleaning out? If you have plants, products, "Stuff" that doesn't make you better, move you forward, make you happy - maybe it's time to remove that from your place? As the person texting reminded me yesterday. Celebrate the spring. It's nature's way of starting over and seeing the brightness and beauty it brings. I'm grateful for my life and my ability to grow. Sometimes growth requires change. Cleaning out our closets and our minds helps to provide room for that growth. Take time this month to review what makes you happy, what makes you grow and what doesn't. Let go of that which holds you back. Grow! Have a Great Spring, my friends. Go out and make today a great day. Do have some cleaning to do? Do you need someone to help you review what you want to do with your life, where you want to be? Maybe you need someone to hold you accountable. I know I could have used that type of person as I started working on my Spring Cleaning. I offer coaching services for people that want to gain an advantage over the clutter of life and help you set your goals and keep you accountable as you strive to achieve those goals. Check out my Coaching Page at Goal Getting Podcast.com / Services to find a plan that works for you and let's start cleaning out the limiting beliefs and things that are holding you back from the beauty your garden can bring.   Leave a comment in the Comments section of our Podcast page at GoalGettingPodcast.com / Spring Cleaning. Tony Woodall is the host and producer of the Goal Getting Podcast. He is also an award winning motivational speaker, a Huffington Post contributor, a mentor, and a coach. Although he never went to college, as both a child and an adult, Tony excelled in school, course work and training. He always ranked highly with exams, frequently achieving 2nd place. He was highly motivated and set ambitious goals for himself from a young age. Tony followed many motivational speakers, purchased their programs and practiced their teachings. He spent time and money attending seminars. He followed all the rules and dreamed big. But in spite of all his efforts, Tony failed to achieve his dreams. It wasn’t until he took hypnosis classes and began to study and understand how the mind works, that Tony discovered it was his own limiting beliefs, passed down through programming like, “You’re not college material,” and “You can’t afford to go to college,” and “You can’t be number one” that were keeping him from achieving his goals. That was the beginning of a turnaround that led Tony to where he is today and motivated him to want to help others in their journeys toward achieving their goals. In his own words, “I improved my career and my income using the proven, systematic techniques I now teach in my Goal Achievement Success System. I want to teach others how to set goals effectively and to remove negative, limiting beliefs and replace them with positive, success-oriented, goal achieving beliefs.”

Act with more courage. Don't allow fear to turn you away from opportunities. Risk more.Take more chances. Fail more. Laugh more and love more.- Darren Hardy Thanks Darren Hardy for sharing these great thoughts. I'm competing in the Toastmasters International Speech Competition. By the time this episode airs I will have completed the Area contest for the competition. I won the Cable Car Toastmasters club competition and move on to our Area competition. My speech is entitled Passion Has A Place. My speech is about Living a Passionate Life Finding this quote really hit home with me and made me think of these as the 7 Keys to a Passionate Life. 1. Act with more courage. - The important part of this quote is the word Act. Action is what defines passion. Passion without action is just desire. It is just a wish, a thought. Acting on your dreams, your desires, takes courage. What is courage, you ask. You did ask didn't you? I thought you did. Courage is the ability to do what others won't. Being the one to step out into the fight, the fray when it seems like the odds are against you. Act with more courage in life. [bctt tweet="Passion without action is just desire. #passion #opportunity ~ Tony Woodall"] 2. Don't allow fear to turn you away from opportunities. - When opportunities come their way, many people are afraid to take them on. Fear is a killer of opportunity. Fear of success, fear of failure, fear of poverty. These all prevent us from taking the opportunities that are presented to us and we lose the chance to be more than we are now. 3. Risk more. - Risk is not just a game. Have you ever played the game Risk? We used to play Risk when I was a kid. OK, I didn't play so much. I watched my friend, Larry play after he beat me and most other kids that we played with. Risk is not a game, but maybe we should treat it like a game. People are often risk adverse. They are afraid of taking risks. But risks are necessary in life if you want to grow. Life is about risks. The more risk you are willing to take in your life, your career, even in love, you get farther than those that refuse to take risks. Don't be someone that settles for mediocre. 4. Take more chances. - We have many chances in life to do many things. We must be willing to take a few more chances to when they come our way. I am going to change this part of the quote to be Make More Chances. What I mean by this is we don't have to hang around and be ready to take chances when they come our way. What we have to do is go out and make our chances. I thought about this on my walk this morning. My dog, Sophie, takes me for a walk on weekend mornings. It's her favorite thing to do. We did 5 miles this morning. I usually stop her at 4 but I was in a walking mood, too, so we went to five. Sophie is a Yorkie, a Yorkshire Terrier weighing in at 5 pounds. That's a lot of walking for people, but in Yorkie steps, its a looooong way. During the walk I was thinking about my job as community manager and other social media jobs and that these jobs were not even in existence 10 years ago. There are so many careers that didn't exist when I was growing up. The same is true for you. I was thinking if you have a passion, something you want and love to do and there isn't a job or career for that, then we should do what we can to create the industry, the job, the position that will fill the passion. Basically, Make More Chances. 5. Fail more. - Failure has always been thought of in a negative light. It's bad to fail. You're a loser if you fail. One thing that is known about most successful people is that they have failed many times before they became successful. Thomas Edison, the inventor of the light bulb often talks about how he failed 10,000 times before he created the light bulb the made him a success. When we talk to many start up founders, we hear stories about the failures they endured as they started building their ideas. It's important to fail, and fail fast. Failure isn't negative, failure is educational. You have the opportunity to learn what works and what doesn't. Fail more. 6. Laugh more. - Life is short, enjoy it. Laughter is the best medicine was and probably still is a column that was in Readers Digest magazine when I was growing up, Laughter has been medically proven to be life enhancing. The more laughter we can have in our life, the better we will feel and the healthier we will be. One of my favorite things is to listen to Baby Giggles. Laughing babies are big on the Internet. Everyone loves baby giggles and laughter. They bring a smile to your face and joy to your heart. Go out and find something funny and start laughing. 7. Love more. - Love, like laughter is medically proven to be life enhancing. Finding someone with the same passions, the same dreams, beliefs is critical to find a lasting love. When you find that person, you should share the love and love as much as you can. Spend time being with the ones you love, doing the things you love. Live more, Love More. Take these 7 Keys and unlock your life of passion. Go Out Today and Act with more courage. Don't allow fear to turn you away from opportunities.Risk more. Take more chances. Fail more. Laugh more and love more.   I get a lot of my quotes from great books that I read. Today's Quote is from Me! Click Below to Listen to Today's Show   Stop talking bad about yourself to yourself. There are plenty of other people willing to do it for you.~~ Tony Woodall Hello Goal Getters,  welcome to Goal Getting Quote of the Day. I am so glad you came back to listen today. Today is a special day. We are going to have a great quote from me, Tony Woodall. It's not great because it's from me, it's just really great quote that i was thinking about the other day because I was doing it to myself and it's something that we should never do. You need to stop talking bad about yourself to yourself. There are plenty of other people doing that for you. You don't need to do it to yourself. So that's the quote! Stop talking bad about about yourself. There are plenty of other people willing to do if for you. You don't need to do it yourself. It's always important for us to remember that we shouldn't talk negatively towards ourselves. Our thoughts should be positive thoughts. Our thoughts should be positive thoughts that i will help us go through the day and help us achieve the goals we set.  Thinking negatively is part of the subconscious mind trying to control and take over our thoughts and trying to put in those limiting beliefs that it may still have. We really need to not go that way. We need to stay positive, we need to keep thinking that we're the greatest, we're superman. We are the positive, strong people that we want to be and we really have to keep telling yourself that.  The more you tell yourself things like "You'll never do that." "Your a loser." "You can't get anything right.", If you start feeding that kind of negative crap into your thoughts into your own mind, it's really going to fester in there and it's going to become this negative thought that you just don't need. Often times we are in a very hyper-suggestible state, especially when we're stressed. We get these things going around us and maybe things aren't going right, but as soon as we start the negative thoughts in these areas, in these times, when we're very hyper-suggestible that thought can easily seep into our mental subconscious mind even more and help cement any negative thoughts that we may have in there. It can take those thoughts and just put them into a boiling point of how i feel. That we don't want to feel that because it's not true. We are positive people. We are strong. We are what we need to do to be able to succeed and it's important that again we do not talk negative about ourself to ourself. It's important that we always think to ourselves and say to ourselves, "You are wonderful, this is going to work. You're going to be able to make it." We can't let those negative thoughts go in about ourselves because like i said, We are great. "Stop Talking Bad About About Yourself! There are plenty of other people doing it for you." Go Out Today, Get In Your Superhero Pose and Think Great About Yourself Goal Achievement Success System I want to help you get the goals you set and make this year the best year ever for you. Do you want to achieve your goals? Do you want to walk your own path and go where no one has ever been before? Does your subconscious mind play goalie for the other team, blocking your goals and dreams? You can change your mind and make it play for your team. I've put together my Goal Achievement Success System to help you do that. The Mental Bank Program is a major part of this system. I discuss the Mental Bank Concept in these three episodes: Episode 34 - Is This What You Struggle With? Episode 35  - Is Your Mind Killing Your Dreams? 6 Steps to Stop It Now. Today’s guest is Tony Woodall. Tony is involved in so many different things, it’s really mind boggling. He’s a man of different talents. He’s an Electronic Content Management Specialist, a blogger, a speaker, a podcaster, and author of “The 9 Steps To Successful Goal Achievement: The How To Guide For Goal Setting Success!” One of Tony's first passions is helping people succeed and improve their careers and lives. He created a training program, “GoalGetting, Don't Just Set'em, Get'em” as a way to share the skills needed to set goals effectively, use techniques to change the negative, limiting beliefs and thoughts in the subconscious mind and turn them into goal-achieving, success-oriented, positive beliefs and thoughts that will allow you to Get The Goals You Set! You’ll enjoy this conversation. Tony’s a great guy! TWEET: The 9 steps to achieving any goal, on this episode of #ChasingDreams with Aimee J What are limiting beliefs and why are they so difficult to overcome? Whether you’ve heard the term “limiting beliefs” or not, they’ve impacted your life to a great degree. To simply define the idea, limiting beliefs are the things you believe that are not true, but you live as if they are. The reason these beliefs are so powerful is because you accept them without question and they dictate what you will do, attempt, or follow through on. They’re incredibly difficult to overcome because you don’t see them. It takes a lot of work to recognize them, identify them, and begun “unprogramming” yourself from that wrong belief. Tony Woodall helps people overcome limiting beliefs all the time and he’s going to unpack the concept of overcoming them, on this episode of Chasing Dreams. TWEET: Your #LimitingBeliefs are showing! Find out how to overcome them on this episode To accomplish your goals you’ve got to be clear on WHAT it is you want to achieve. And by clear, today’s guest means CRYSTAL CLEAR. So clear that you can write it down. Why is writing it down so important? Because if you can’t write it down, you won’t be dedicated to exactly what it is. You won’t be able to know when you’ve accomplished it. You won’t experience the exhilaration and confidence that comes with accomplishing your goal. But you’ve also got to determine some sort of realistic timeframe for achieving it. Notice the word “realistic” in there. You can’t make a goal to become a millionaire and tie it into a one week timeframe. You’ve got to be smart about it, setting a time limit that is both realistic but challenging. Tony Woodall is an expert on this stuff, so be sure you take a listen to his explanation of these vital aspects of goal setting. After you know WHAT you’re going for, you’ve got to determine HOW you’re going to get it. Some people call this an “action plan.” Others consider it to be the steps that make up the goal. No matter what you call it, you’ve got to systematically figure out how you’re going to move toward your goal. Doing this gives you tangible steps you can take, day by day, to move you toward the goal. It’s a great part of what will keep you motivated as you slog through the grind of getting things done. It’s an important aspect of seeing your goal come to fruition right before your eyes as you do things every day to make it happen. Without this vital piece, you’re sure to miss the goal altogether. Find out more on this episode as Aimee J chats with Tony Woodall about his “9 Steps to Successful Goal Achievement.” The motivation piece of every goal: the WHY. You remember the kid in your neighborhood who always asked, “Why?” Then when you told him, he asked, “Why?” again!  You know, that kid was on to something important. Knowing exactly and clearly “why” you are going for the goal you are is the foundational thing that will keep you motivated every day as you do the hard work of overcoming obstacles, beating down roadblocks, and ignoring the negative voices so that you can reach that goal. When you have a clear “why” behind your goal you’re able to revisit it time and time again, as many times as it takes, to keep you motivated and on track. Be sure to hear what Tony Woodall has to say about this vital aspect of goal reaching, on this episode of Chasing Dreams with Aimee J. Mae West   Everything's in the mind. That's where it all starts. Knowing what you want is the first step in getting it. ~ Mae West Mae West was a comedian and actress in the early days of TV and film. She was very funny and offered so many wise and humorous quotes. This one is not as humorous as many, but it is very true. It is especially true with Goal Setting. Everything starts in the mind. Ideas are the beginning of all things. The first step of knowing where you are going is knowing where you want to go. The first step in Getting The Goals You Set is to know what you want. Today's Quote, by Oprah Winfrey, is one of the Top 10 Quotes on Opportunity that Richard Branson shared. I saw them and wanted to share them with you. Oprah says: [bctt tweet=" I feel like luck is preparation meeting opportunity! -- Oprah Winfrey"] And she is right. If you prepare yourself, doing what you need to do to be what you want to be, then when opportunity happens, you might think its's just luck, but what it is really happening is opportunity is meeting preparation and it seems like something so random that it has to be luck. What it is is The Law of Attraction. When you prepare, think and believe in your goals, then they will come to you in opportunity. Then you put your preparation out and shake hands with opportunity and Get The Goals You Set. It's fun watching my Goal Getting Coaching Client as we've put together her goals, her action plan and as she starts working that plan, amazing opportunities start coming to her! She just has to put her preparation to work and take opportunity and run with it. There is NO Luck to it! Direct the energy to you. Direct your mind to work for you. Say Preparation, Meet Opportunity! Let's Do It, Now! Thanks again for listening to Goal Getting Podcast, this is Tony Woodall, your host. Make it seem like luck when you Get the Goals You Set. Richard Branson Today's Quote of the Day is another in our Opportunity Series. I started sharing the top 10 Quotes on Opportunity that Richard Branson loves. Richard Branson inspires me. He is a philanthropist, entrepreneur and a humanitarian. A man that when he is offered an amazing opportunity, he says YES, even though he may not know how to do it. As he says, he can learn to do it later. That belief is evident in the many goals he has achieved with his Virgin brands. Churchill says Winston Churchill is the person that has offered this quote: "A Pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an Optimist see the opportunity in every difficulty." A very profound quote, it talks about the quintessential battle between optimism and pessimism! What is a difficulty and what is an opportunity. Another man's trash is another man's treasure. Half-Full versus Half-empty. Well they are one in the same. Difficulty breeds opportunity. So many of the things we have today are here because someone had a difficulty. The sad part is, we many have seen that difficulty, watched the people with the difficulty, may have even had that difficulty ourselves. Yet, we just acknowledged it being difficult or complained about it. Someone saw the difficulty and saw, then created the solution. They took the Opportunity to Act and Create and Solve the difficulty. [bctt tweet="A Pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an Optimist see the opportunity in every difficulty. -- Winston Churchill"] They Are Rich! Now, today, we are better off, we have less or no difficulty in that area at all. We are content. THEY ARE RICH! How do you see Difficulty? Do you see the opportunity in every difficulty? OR Do you just see the difficulty in everything. Don't be pessimistic or optimistic - Be Opportunistic! Create opportunity where there is difficulty. Create Wealth! Create something Good!     I get a lot of my quotes from great books that I read. Judith McNaught Hello Goal Getters! We're here today on our Quote of the Day to help you Stay Motivated and Get Inspired. I do that by listening to those that have done what I want to do.  I also love quotes and I wanted to share some motivating and inspirational quotes from people that have motivated and inspired me. Today's Quote of the day is following on our Opportunity Theme. Richard Branson shared his 10 favorite quotes on opportunity and I am sharing them with you. [bctt tweet="You can't outwit fate by standing on the sidelines placing little side bets about the outcome of life - If you don't play you can't win." Judith McNaught"] Judith McNaught is not someone I knew before I saw this quote that Richard Branson shared. Judith McNaught is a New York Times Best Selling Author! As an author with an eBook on Amazon.com, I know this is a great accomplishment. I think that is important to know when you listen to Judith's Quote.  She is an Opportunity seeker and a person of action. You have to be to get on the New York Times Best Seller List. Judith tells us: You can't outwit fate by standing on the sidelines placing little side bets about the outcome of life - If you don't play you can't win." Do you know any of those people that just sit or stand around watching while others are doing things. They stand on the sidelines of your life, placing wagers, "Oh, he'll never do that, he's too old. I bet he fails." "What does she know about that, I bet she fall on her face." Do you do that to yourself. Do you get ready to call someone to set up an appointment to show them your product and then say to yourself, "I bet they won't be interested. I shouldn't even bother calling."  "Oh, I bet I will mess up this deal." Don't Listen to Them First, Don't listen to those people! And, more importantly Don't listen to you! Don't let your own mind place those side bets. I loved to watch the TV Show "In It To Win It" with Guy Fieri. The catch phrase was "You Gotta Be In it To Win It!" and that is what Judith is saying in this quote. You Gotta Be In It To Win It! was the phrase used by Guy Fieri on the TV Game Show - In It To Win It. Be In It To Win It If you want to win, you have to play. Placing the side bets that stop you from acting on your goals will not make you successful at that you want to do. If you want to Win, You have to Play first. Get out there on the field, Do the things that it takes to Win and You Will WIN! I hope this quote will inspire you to keep playing and working on your goals.  Don't stand on the sidelines. Play and Play to Win. Go out today, Be In It to Win It, If you don't play, you can't win. Leave the sidelines for your cheerleaders and the photographers. Be in the Game! Richard Branson shared his 10 favorite quotes on opportunity and I am going to share them with you. Richard Branson is an entrepreneur, philanthropist and humanitarian that has inspired me and millions of other people. Albert Einstein was one of the most intelligent and wise men in history. He created and invented many things. To be such a great mind, you had to take advantage of opportunities and the thoughts and ideas that came into your mind. In the Middle of every difficulty lies opportunity."  -- Albert Einstein What I believe he was saying with this is that whenever you hear about someone having a problem, that provides you with a great opportunity. Most products that are created are done so to solve a problem. One of the best tips that I have received in life is to ask people what they hate to do, work on, or whatever. When you learn what it is, find a way to make it easier, faster, better and create it. This is the key to achieving your goals. Solving problems for people. If you want to increase your income, provide value for your company or someone. When you provide value or solutions, you will excel. In the Middle of every difficulty lies opportunity. - Albert Einstein I am so glad you were able to join us today. Episode 10 - Why You Should Define Your Why

Goal Getting™ Podcast with Tony Woodall

Play Episode Listen Later May 6, 2015 28:33

Hello Goal Getter Nation, This is Tony Woodall, your host for Goal Getting Podcast.   Today we're going to be talking about Defining Your Why   Why Baby Why?   And what we're talking about with that is, "why do you do what you do?    Or, "why are you trying to get the goals you set?"   One of the most difficult things, I think, to get the goals you set,  is to determine what your why is, to Define Your Why.     I found it easier to write it down as I'm thinking about it along with  My What, which is what I want to achieve and My How, the action steps I have to do to accomplish it   So I created a worksheet to help me create My What, My How and My Why and you can download a copy of the worksheet later at GoalGettingPodcast.com/action   And, I've been to motivational speaking seminars for many years.     I've gone to more than I can think of, or as my grandparents use to say, More than I can shake a stick at.     You know I used to go to see a lot of motivational speakers since I was in my early 20's. When I first heard about products from Amway, I became an Amway distributor many, many, many years ago.     One of the things that got me started is I wanted to be successful. I wanted to make a lot of money. I wanted to be wealthy.  I wanted to enjoy life.   And I wanted to be motivated so I started going to the motivational seminars to learn more about the business and things. I got involved along with Amway and later in life several other multi-level marketing or direct marketing organizations and I don't have anything bad to say about them. So I am not talking negative or positive about that particular experience because I did learn a lot business, about life, about sales and marketing working in those organizations.   But I also got my start listening and studying motivational speakers.  And I love motivational speakers. I still listen to motivational speakers today. You know I’ve listened to some of the best. I went to several Tony Robbins seminars; I've got and read all of his books and several taped programs of his.  Mark Victor Hanson, I listened to him before he did the Chicken Soup for the Soul series that he's involved in. I've listened to many, many motivational speakers. I did the sound for one, Mike... and I can't remember his name now.   He helped me when I spoke to him one morning at breakfast and we were talking about being motivated and being successful and you know, we talked about some family relationships I had with my birth father, and they weren't good relationships. He was talking about how we had to forgive those who had wronged us. We don't have to necessarily be around them or like them, but we do have to forgive them. That was the key. It has nothing to do with motivation, but it does motivate you because being angry with people doesn't get you motivated.   When we're talking about goals, one of the things I did going to motivational seminars, one of the things that you see frequently, is they ask you and they start bringing up all of these different things that motivate people and ask what motivates you.   Is it new cars? Maybe it's that Rolls Royce, or that Bentley or the Maybach. In my day, back when I was going through this as a youngster, it was the Cadillac that was the thing. It was the Cadillac El Dorado was my favorite car that I wanted back then. That was the thing you strived for was to have a big, fancy car, whether the Cadillac, Rolls Royce or Bentley, a Ferrari or BMW, a sports car or something like that.  Was that what motivated you? A new car.     Or maybe it was a new home or a mansion.  I remember talking about getting this big home with white columns on it. I am from the south and we always invisioned having the columns on the outside of our homes.  One of the things you wanted a home on a golf course or a beach house, a mountain retreat or second home for vacations on the beach or whatever. So alot of times you are motived or try to get motivated for success or to make a lot of money or whatever.  Money Motivated is the big thing alot of people talk about. I am personally money motivated. I like to do things to earn money. But, money isn't really the money that's motivating you and me.  I got thinking about that later on in life. We think about money and what are the things that motivate you. In today's episode it's kind of about motivation. So I want you to think while we are talking here. What motivates you. What gets' you excited to get out of bed and to do the things like that. What motivates you? Because we start looking at these things as we start looking at new cars, new homes, vactaions, I love to cruise. I have been on many cruises with different cruise lines. I love to travel. I haven't traveled as much as I would have like to. I've been mostly in the Caribbean. My goal is to travel on the Pacific side. Out in the Pacific, go to Hawaii, Tahiti, Singapore, maybe some other places in Asia. I still want to visit Japan. As a martial artist my martial arts instructor and sensei, the gransmaster is in Japan. He's been to the states several times and I've taken seminars with him and learned, but i never got an opportunity to go to Japan and train with him there at the schools there. That's still one of my goals. So Travel is a motivation.     Finally maybe you've got a goal or the motivation is money. Again, Financial is a big motivator for a lot of people. You've got kids and want to put them through college or put yourself through college, or pay for your college you got.  Most millinials today have so much college debt. Student loans and things like that. I am paying for my daughter's student loans. I'm paying for my daughter's student loans, or more so my student loans for my daughter, Not her's as she has her own student loans which are more than mine, actually, which is really sad when you think about it. Maybe you want to do something for putting yourself, your children, or your Grandchildren, though college at some point in time. Maybe you just want to increase your income or get a job. Those are some motivational things for dealing with Financial or money.      Maybe your motivation is health. To Lose Weight, get in better shape, to be able to run a marathon or an ultra-marathon. I found out about ultra-marathon and I didn't realize there was a such thing as an Ultra-Marathon until recently when one of my coworkers was talking about his wife and he, who do ultra-marathons on the weekend. I didn't realize they were called ultra-marathons until after. He talked about how she goes out to run 100 mile runs on the weekend. It's like a 36 hour of runnning they do. Man that is amazing that someone can run that far. You have to be able to be motivated to do that, in my opinion.  What we want to talk about today is not these type of motivation or the things that excite you or motivate you or want to have.  These are goals, I believe, they aren't really motivations.     They are goals you can have, but when you think about goals and setting and achieving goals, one of the key elements I used to forget about and never rally thought about it, Why do I want that. Another motivational speaker, and I apologize I can't remember which one it was that I had heard and was talking to one day and listening to one of their talks and they said, You really have to know your Why! And I didn't understand that when I first heard that. I thought, Why, Why Why do I do this and that's really one of the biggest things you have to think about when you want to set a goal and learning the Goal Getting, Don't Just Set'em Get'em Program that I teach on this podcast, Goal Getting Podcast or at seminars, or webinars that I do is talking about knowing your Why. I used to just talk about in my presentations that I did for Goal Getting, even before I learned about the Why part, was that you had to understand your motivations.   Really, when you think about motivation there are two types of motivation I learned about.  1)      People are motivated by what called "Away Motivation" They are really trying to get away from something, and that is what motivates them. So, the fear of going into bankruptcy is something that motivates a lot of people. They don't want to lose everything; they don't want to go to the poor house. That is one thing that motivates a lot of people, moving away from something bad. They don't want to get sick and die. They don't want to have a heart attack. They don't want to have an accident in their car, so they drive safely. Those are Away Motivations that people have. I used to teach and ask, “what are you trying to get away from”. 2)     The other way people are motivated is "Towards Motivation".  We try to get things to come towards us - like joy, happiness, a feeling of excitement, an adrenaline rush. Whatever it is that we want to get that feeling or excitement Towards us. We have the Toward Motivation and then we have the Away Motivation.   That's what I originally thought about as the motivating factors for setting goals. Until I heard that one motivational speaker talk, and I apologize I can't remember who it was I was listening to. But, what they really talked about was, and this is what I teach now is,   You have to know your Why.     Why do you do what you’re doing to be successful, or what is the reason why you do your goals. Why is very important and you have to start looking at it.    I have been studying Lean Six Sigma and Six Sigma type programs and one of the things they teach you in the six sigma process is to ask WHY.  There is a minimum of 5-7 whys that you have to drill down to.  It's kind of like a 3-4 year old.     When my daughters were young, I dreaded the 3-4 year old stage because they asked about 4000 questions a day, it seemed, one every minute, and typically my daughters would always ask Why, Why, Why. I never always knew the answer, so I eventually always said, "because I said So."     I did actually use that on my daughters a couple times and that was really wrong when they wanted to know why and especially as they got older and I had to tell them they couldn't do something. They always asked Why. But that's a different kind of why.   As a child, your curiosity is very strong so you always wondering, sometimes as a matter of habit after a while. You have children as they are growing up 2-3-4 years old that start asking  why about everything, You say do this, they go why, do this, why, because you need to do it this way and they go why...everybody is questioning authority and questioning the reason for whatever you are telling them to do at that age. That's because they are learning.   And when you're working with your goals and you’re working with motivation and things like that you really have to understand what your Why is.   Why do I want to do this, for example: Why do you want to lose weight?  I've wanted to lose weight for quite a long time and mainly you have to think about asking why you want to lose weight. Well, I want to lose weight because I'm tired of being fat. I actually had my youngest daughter came up to me one day when I was sitting on the couch. She was probably about 3 - 4 years old if that old.  She came up and asked, "Daddy, Why are you fat?"      It hurt like crazy, but she didn't mean anything about it, she was just wondering and someone had been talking about fat people and may have even been talking about me. But, I was overweight, incredibly overweight at time and she goes, why are you overweight? I didn't have a good answer for her, other than the fact I liked to eat and I didn't eat properly. When I started trying to lose weight, I didn't think about my why for that. I started thinking about, well, I just don't like being overweight, I look ugly, I look fat, that was kind of my motivation at the time. I didn't want to  be fat; I just wanted to be thin as people are supposed to be. As I got older, I got medical because of being overweight. I became a type 2 diabetic.   Now, as I start losing weight, and I am on a weight loss program.  I lost a bunch of weight.  When I hit that scale one morning and realized looking at the scale and it read it say 296 pounds, I well, I almost crapped my pants, to be honest with you. I just could not believe it. I had been travelling a lot and eating out a lot and eating terrible foods and usually eating very little during the day, and then a big dinner or an whole, entire Domino’s Pizza or something in the hotel room right before going to bed, which is a horrible thing to do.   That lead to obesity and it also led to the Type II Diabetes. Now when you get into that particular health situation, it costs money because you are spending money on all of these different drugs, because you not only end up with the diabetes medicine, you end up with high blood pressure and several other things you can get .. .  High Cholesterol levels so you get on all of these different medicines and dad gum it, that's expensive. When I started my weight loss programs now as I got older I started thinking about what I need to do. What is my why? Why do I want to lose weight? It's not just to look good.   I'm married, I have two beautiful daughters. I'm not trying to impress the ladies, or anyone else. I got over that long ago. But as I start thinking about my Why now, my Why is because I want to be healthy. I'd like to live longer. I'm getting up in age. My parents didn't live as long as I would like them to have lived. My Grandparents also had health issues and passed away too early.  I started looking at this with my children, who I love dearly, and want at some point in my life to have grandchildren and be able to play and love and run around and have fun with them and spoil the crap out of them and take them to Walt Disney World and take them to amusement parks and things like that and have fun with them. Play ball with them if it's a boy or a girl play ball with them, run with them. Just have a good time.   To do that, I have to be healthy. I have to live long enough to be able to do that because I don't know if my daughters are going to do it any time soon, have children so I can have grandchildren. So, in that respect, I have to live a long time to get where I can enjoy those bundles of joy. Right now, if I don't take care of myself I'm not going to be able to do that. The other is asking me, why that matters. I want to stop paying a heck of a lot of money for drugs. I want to save the 200-300 dollars per month I am spending on medicine. So if I just look at the why's for just losing weight, I realize that my ultimate why is for me is to not have to pay that money I am paying the doctor and to live longer and healthier. I want to be able to do a lot of things as I get older. I don't want to be restrained to a wheelchair or sit on the couch and things like that. I started thinking about your why and I started having my daughters and started raising my kids, I realized a lot of my why at that time became my daughters, my children. I wanted to succeed, to make more money, I wanted to have a better career so I could provide them with the things I never had. When you are thinking about your goals, I want you to start thinking about Why!  Why do I want it.   You need to keep asking yourself - If you say, I want to be successful or make a lot of money, our double your income, WHY do you want to double your income.  I'm working with a client now who wants to double her income. We're talking about business and how she can do that, the different ways to do it. Let's focus on what your why is.   Why do you want to double your income? Yes, you want to make more money, you want to be able to spend your money and do different things, but Why?  We got to talking and she said she wanted to be able to do this, or provide for women, to be a motivational person to other women of certain ages. And I asked why do you want to do that? She said, I want to be able to do it, so I can make a little more money and provide for my son. I want to help him go to college. So, as we start going into the why, we keep asking, why do you want to do that? Why is that important to you?   As you start asking yourself those questions, you start really defining, what is the real reason you are doing what you are doing. The reason I say that's really critical and the thing I found when I was talking to that motivational speaker that set me straight on this motivation as know your why because when you get frustrated, or get down, get extremely tired because things aren't going your way, instead of saying Screw It!   You start thinking, why am I doing this, that WHY is stuck in your brain, within your heart, you understand why you're doing this particular goal and what it's going to take, you are going to continue to do it. You’re going to continue to start fighting to be the success and to get the goal that you set. You are going to make that final decision to continue because you know why you’re doing that. It's really important to understand your Why. It's not just because you want a new car. It's not just because you want to travel, It's not just because you want to have a big house. Bigger than the Jones' or whatever, or it could be, but it depends on what your why is.  Everybody is different. What is your why?   Maybe your why is because you want to be better than the Jones' or have more than your neighbors. It's really your why and that's what is important.  Knowing your why is very, very important. Not just in motivation but in life. So, you want to, when you are setting your goals, when you write down your goals you know what you want, specifically, you are very specific, you're being realistic, you set that deadline, you got your action plan. You working on the actions you have to take and you are taking actions. You're measuring it. You're tracking your progress as you go along. You're seeing that you're doing that. Every day you start thinking. Not only do I have the What and the How and now I have the Why. I know why I am doing what I am doing. It keeps you motivated. It keeps you wanting to go forward. It keeps you on that track and on that path to achieve your goals. As long as you know and understand what your why is, it will make traveling on that path to success and achieving your goal much easier. Make sure you sit down, you think about what is your why. Know you why and if you know your why, you'll be successful.     Michael Hyatt has a goal setting program he teaches and I was listening to his talk at the end of last year. His wife, Gloria, has a quote that she says, that he shared with us:   "When People Lose Their Why, They Lose Their Way." -Gloria Hyatt     That is a valid thought. If you don't remember or can understand what your Why is, you can lose your way while you're trying to achieve your goals. Get your Why! Find out what your why is and keep thinking about that. I like to keep My What, My How, and My Why available for me where I can read it and look at it on a daily basis. So, when I get where I'm frustrated and just say, "Is it really worth it?" I can say, "Yea, it really is, and this is why it's really worth it to me to keep doing what I am doing."   This is Tony Woodall with Goal Getting Podcast. Make sure along with the rest of the steps to Successful Goal Achievement, that you define your Why.   Know your Why and you won't lose your way as Gloria Hyatt says.   Have a great day. Tony was raised in the Church of Christ here in Tennessee.  He was moved by signs and wonders to Charismatic Pentacostalism.  But it all imploded and life spiraled downward.  When he returned years later to ministry, it was all about Love and helping those in need.  He's a good ole Southern boy with a big heart!
