When Awad first started Skate Tua, his main goal was to reunite his old friends and family with skateboarding, an activity that they love but have left a long time ago, as they grew older. What started out as something playful soon turned pretty serious as it gained traction among like-minded individuals from the same demographic, as they found refuge in Skate Tua’s more accessible group. How Tricia Cusden Started Her Beauty Line At Age 65 And Proved That You're Never Too Old To Start Over

This week's episode features the incredible Tricia Cusden. I don't say this lightly when I say that these episodes are the reason I started this podcast. She is the perfect example that it is never too late to start over and live the most full-life possible. If you can get out of your own way, there is so much more that you are capable of than you let yourself believe. Tricia started out her career as a stay-at-home mom to her two daughters. When her daughters got older, she went back to university and got her degree at 38. She then began a career as a management training consultant. After working for a company for 10 years, she jumped into entrepreneurship and ran her own consultancy until she was 64. After 26 years in that career, Tricia closed down her business in order to help with the care of her granddaughter, who had been born with a rare chromosomal disorder. At 65, when her granddaughter had improved and had other help, Tricia decided she needed a new project. She had always loved make-up and saw a huge gap in the market for aging women. Without any experience in the field, she set out to start her own beauty line with Look Fabulous Forever. What has happened in the 7 years since she launched the brand is just incredible. She has built a business that both her daughters now work in, written a book, attended the Oscars, created a large following, and so much more. She's such an inspiration to me and so many others.

On this episode, Nikki talks to her mom, 83 year old Christine Zogorean who is a two time gold medal powerlifter, and her coach, 78 year old Patraic Currey who is a 9 Time World Champion Powerlifter and Christine’s powerlifting coach.  Christine shares how just a few years ago, she was suffering from spinal stenosis and could barely walk from her car to the grocery store, and after not having any success treating it with any medication, she went to see a physical therapist who ended up helping her restore strength to her body while ridding it of pain.  Once she was able to move again, she started going to the gym and found a personal trainer who helped her build up her strength and then she decided she wanted to try out powerlifting.  When she asked around for a coach, Patraic’s name was mentioned and she started working with him, eventually getting two gold medals in powerlifting and setting records herself.  Christine and Patraic discuss the mindset and mentality it takes to keep lifting heavier, and how important it is to not assume your age can keep you from doing anything, especially if you have a competitive spirit.  They talk about how movement is medicine, and to not be intimidated by someone else being able to do something you can’t, but to be inspired instead. For more information on Patraic, check out his gym.  He coaches both young and mature athletes - No Excuses Gym 305-979-2441 https://www.facebook.com/Captain-Curreys-No-Excuses-Gym-180075078687772

I'm so honored to have Deborah Chambers on the podcast today to talk about such important topics such as ageism and how we limit ourselves with preconceived notions of what is possible. Deborah is an advocate and role model focused on challenging the negative stereotypes around aging. She's here to spread the message that it is never too late and you're never too old...a message we wholeheartedly endorse on this podcast! Stuck in a rut, dreading turning 50, and having worked as a technical writer for the same company for more than 20 years, Deborah was looking for a change. But she never imagined that she'd change her whole life completely in her 50s. At 53, she applied to a modeling agency, began posting photographs on Instagram featuring her perfectly coiffed hair and impeccable style that garnered the attention of thousands of people. She has since created a platform (over 40K on Instagram and 70K on TikTok) dedicated to showing people that you're never too old to show up as your whole self and to follow your dreams. At 55, she quit her job and went full in with this passion project (and we are so thankful that she did!) Her platform and her message are not only inspiring and empowering but exactly what we need in a world that glorifies looking young over everything else. When Bill Konigsberg was a teen, there were no novels featuring young gay men. Thanks to him, gay teens today can’t say the same. In his latest novel, though, the sexual preference of his protagonists is almost incidental. Max and Jordan are in the middle becoming adults, and their struggle to integrate pain, joy, capacity, and weakness into their wholeness makes this book totally relevant for those of us who are still growing… that is - everybody. Bill Konigsberg is the award-winning author of six young adult novels. THE PORCUPINE OF TRUTH won the PEN Center USA Literary Award and the Stonewall Book Award in 2016. OPENLY STRAIGHT won the Sid Fleischman Award for Humor, was a finalist for the Amelia Elizabeth Walden Award and Lambda Literary Award in 2014 and has been translated into five languages. His debut novel, OUT OF THE POCKET, won the Lambda Literary Award in 2009. THE MUSIC OF WHAT HAPPENS, was released in February of 2019, received two starred reviews, and has been optioned for a film. His next novel, THE BRIDGE, will be released in the fall of 2020. In 2018, The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE)’s Assembly on Literature for Adolescents (ALAN) established the Bill Konigsberg Award for Acts and Activism for Equity and Inclusion through Young Adult Literature. Before Bill wrote for young adults, he was a sports writer and editor for ESPN and the Associated Press. Charles met and got to know Bill through their shared work helping create initiations for men - the Mankind Project - and boys at Boys to Men. Charles was immediately drawn to Bill’s intelligence, vulnerability, and attentiveness. Bill lives in Phoenix, Arizona, with his husband, Chuck and their two Australian Labradoodles, Mabel and Buford, who complete him. Mabel and Buford have professional glamour shots on Bill’s website. I fell hard for Buford - you might, too. Bill’s books - the one we read, anyway - are filled with real people of all stripes, not token stereotypes or caricatures. They are dealing with real and relatable problems and struggles, and being gay isn’t the most notable thing about them. They are regular people who just happen to be gay. Bill creates a world that is familiar for some of us - especially those of us who grew up in the arts or in places like Jerome, AZ - where being gay and out is unremarkable. We found it refreshing and a relief to spend time there and we really loved getting to know Jordan and Max and their friends and family. We definitely want to read the rest of Bill’s books, especially the new book: The Bridge that is available for pre-order now.   If you've ever told yourself that it's too late to start over, be prepared to face the truth: you're just making an excuse. After spending 40 years climbing the ladder in corporate America, Paul Tasner was laid off from his job at 64 years old (all while casually eating an apple during his surprise exit interview!). A few years later, at 66 years old, Paul decided to take a leap of faith and try his hand at entrepreneurship. To combat the amount of plastic that companies used, he founded Pulp Works and set out to create safe, eco-friendly packaging for consumer products. PulpWorks uses paper and agricultural waste to mold compostable packaging and thereby diminish the waste deposited in our landfills, waterways, and oceans. Paul was selected as a TED Resident in 2017. His TED Talk on sustainability, entrepreneurism, and ageism has been seen by more than 2 million viewers and translated into 29 languages. As if he wasn't doing enough, in 2018, Paul, with colleagues in San Francisco and Mexico City, founded Sort, a company using artificial intelligence, the IoT, and computer vision technology, to solve the contamination challenges facing the plastics recycling industry today. He is doing such incredible things and inspiring so many others! He is a real testament to the fact that it is truly never too late to start over. There are tons of things we can all do to pursue our dreams!   Here is what we chat about in this episode: How it's SERIOUSLY never too late to start over! How there is no such thing as security. Why you should get clear on what you want. And so much more! Chasing Dreams with Aimee J.

It’s always a thrill to catch up with a former guest, especially one who has been super-successful in chasing dreams and achieving goals. Today’s guest appeared on Episode 18--way back in 2015. Let’s check in and see what’s new! From the chauffeur seat to the C-suite, Tony Woodall has used his Goal Getting program to go from 50 to 32 in waist size and is in better shape now than he was in his 30’s. He’s become a master at achieving his goals and helping his clients do the same. As a coach, speaker, consultant, and the author of 9 Steps to Successful Goal Achievement, Tony proves that you’re never too old to achieve your goals and dreams. This host of the Goal Getting podcast has inspired and helped people reach their high-performance goals, and he’s worked with realtors, lenders, bankers, and other corporations to reach their potential and beyond. Making a commitment Where have you made the biggest commitment? Like many people, Tony has battled weight gain for much of his life. Within the past year, he’s dropped from 300 lbs. to 185 and increased his level of physical fitness and overall health. Why has the weight loss process been different this time? Tony explains that the most significant difference has been the commitment he made to himself, most notably in writing a commitment letter, a promissory note of sorts, that he wrote to himself. The motivation for the letter was diabetes, high blood pressure, and other problems as his 60th birthday approached. He says that he wanted to take the money he spent on medications and use it for traveling, having fun, and enjoying life. The key was simple, although not easy: “Eat less, exercise more, and overcome bad habits.” TWEET: “Eat less, exercise more, and overcome bad habits.” @TonyWCMB #chasingdreams Every little step is progress Does achieving a goal bring you happiness? We all know the joy and satisfaction that come from accomplishments. Tony acknowledged this happiness every time he met small goals along the way of his journey to better health. He says that the ability to grow and see progress is a need that humans have. Every little step toward a goal is a positive moment that deserves a reward. Seeing those small steps gives you the momentum to keep moving forward. Tony was even able to start running, which was something he never thought he could do. He says, “Once you realize what you CAN do, that’s when things change.” TWEET: “Once you realize what you CAN do, that’s when things change.” @TonyWCMB #chasingdreams No more excuses Do you make excuses as to why you can’t accomplish specific goals? Tony was used to making excuses as to why he couldn’t do certain things because he was fat and overweight. As a result of chasing his weight loss and fitness goals, Tony now has the motivation to step out toward accomplishing other goals in his life. One example of that is in personal relationships. Tony now has the mentality to try something new as a ripple effect of the dreams he has already chased.  Guest Recommendation: ONE action for a dream chaser to take: “Set your goal. Write it down. Don’t let anyone stop you. Your choice of decisions is what will rule your life.” OUTLINE OF THIS EPISODE: [:33] The biggest accomplishments for Tony since 2015 [3:07] The challenge of weight loss [6:46] “Taming the tiger” [7:57] Overcoming obstacles [10:14] Facing temptation head on [12:12] Setting goals [13:07] The correlation between accomplishing a goal and happiness [15:37] Tony’s journey: past and present [19:54] Taking on a new journey [23:17] Making changes in other areas [25:59] Don’t neglect the small dreams [28:04] The impact we have on others [30:39] The satisfaction we get from achieving our goals [34:38] ONE action for a dream chaser RESOURCES MENTIONED: http://aimeej21.com/episode18   Hear Tony’s previous episode! Bonnie Parrish-Kell is inspiring! She began her athletic journey at age 50 and leads a life that shows us all that we are never too old or too out of shape to lead an active lifestyle. Based in Las Vegas, Nevada, Bonnie Parrish-Kell is the “Chief Diva” at Slowpoke Divas, an online source of information and inspiration for women – who may be overweight, out of shape, or over 40 years of age – to rediscover the joys of a healthy lifestyle and outdoor sports. She started her athletic journey at age 50 by participating in a beginner-friendly triathlon. That single event showed her how decades of inactivity took a toll on her fitness level, strength, weight, and sense of well-being! As Bonnie then worked with a local triathlon coach, she met other women like herself who “dared to dream” of becoming runners, cyclists, swimmers, or hikers, but doubted their abilities, were afraid of ridicule, or felt unsupported. Slowpoke Divas serves to provide the support, encouragement, and community women like these wanted and needed. Bonnie is a race walker, cyclist, an occasional triathlete, and consistent participant in state-level senior Olympics with goals of qualifying in her sports for the biennial National Senior Games. She is the triathlon coordinator for 2018 Nevada Senior Games, and an ambassador for the Huntsman World Senior Games in St. George, Utah. She is also works with the U.S. Power Walking Association. She can be reached at www.SlowpokeDivas.com.   PODCAST HOST:   Coach Kim Peek is the founder of Power of Run. She loves running, triathlon and discovering new ways to challenge her fitness. She is a breast cancer survivor and a dog mom… and a mother to three girls who love theater and film. She enjoys traveling with her husband and kids, especially when the travel involves a beach. She believes that exercise and nutrition can improve our quality of life and longevity, and she is on a mission to help others learn how they can incorporate small changes that will make a big difference in their health and happiness.  Kim offers online training programs for women who want to run their first or fastest 5K, half marathon, marathon or triathlon. You can find her programs at www.crushingmygoals.com. You can also find her on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest as @PowerOfRun

Simon's parents visited Simon and Martina in Japan; the duo have some advice about what to do when your parents visit Japan to ensure they enjoy it. Simon's parents don't usually like trying new things and it was his mum's frst time visiting Japan, so Simon and Martina made sure his parents felt comfortable in a new country. They booked them into an airbnb so they could take their time getting to know the Japanese cuisine and culture. They eased them into the local food, which they ended up loving. Simon's dad loved a beer vending machine at the local sushi place too. His parent's noticed a lot of different things about Japan like how smooth the trains were, how everyone abides by the 'no noise' rule on public transport and how late everyone worked. By the end of the trip the Eat You Kimchi duo noticed that Simon's parents had changed a lot - in just 2 weeks - their views on life had broadened and they'd opened up to a whole new world.

Are you ready to permit life to use you in a very intense and authentic way? You can either wait to die or you can be alive. The choice is yours. Join Lisa Natoli as she talks about one of her top role models and inspirations in her own life: American dancer and choreographer Martha Graham (1894–1991). If you feel that you are "too old" to do things you love, this show is for you! Martha Graham was 76 when she felt her life was over, after a lifetime of great success. When she stopped dancing, she lost her will to live, began drinking, and ended up in the hospital for a long time, much of it in a coma. Graham not only survived her hospital stay, but thrived. In 1972, she quit drinking, returned to her studio, reorganized her company, and went on to choreograph 10 new ballets and many revivals. Graham choreographed until her death in New York City from pneumonia in 1991, at age 96. Also in this one-hour show is Louise Hay's story. She started her life in her 50s after making a decision to stop being a victim and begin sharing her light with others. Now is a great time to connect with the light you are and start doing the things you really love to do.    For more information about A Course in Miracles and the Teachers of God Foundation, please visit teachersofgod.org.
