The holiday season is here, and with it comes school parties and plenty of time to catch up with friends. For many teens, it's a time to relax and have fun. But for parents, it can also bring up tricky questions about how to talk to their kids about drugs and alcohol—and how to set the right boundaries. To make those conversations a little easier, we’re bringing back a great chat from 2019, when Holly Wainwright spoke with Paul Dillon, the Director of Drug and Alcohol Research and Training Australia. Paul offers some practical advice on how to approach these topics with teens in a way that keeps their attention—and avoids the dreaded eye roll. Your host is Holly Wainwright with thanks to Paul DillonYou can find out more about DARTA here; http://darta.net.au/ THE END BITS Share your feedback! With schoolies fast approaching, you might be thinking about what you should say to your teenager about alcohol. NOBODY in Australia is more experienced on this topic than Paul Dillon. For the last three decades he has travelled around Australia (and the world!) visiting schools to teach them about the dangers of alcohol and drugs. Many of us dread this conversation...for years...particularly if we were heavy drinkers ourselves. But Paul's approach is similar to ours on the podcast. He is not trying to tell kids to not drink or do drugs. He is instead equipping them to do so as safely as possible. How should they act in an emergency?Does eating bread or pulling a sickie sober you up?And should you ever put a mate to sleep if they are hammered? These are just some of the questions that Paul will answer over the course of our chat. The truth is - he is a fountain of wisdom on the exact topic Vic and Hame know the least about and we are hugely grateful he sat down with us to help you all too!NotesDrug and Alcohol Research and Training (DARTA) website: https://darta.net.au/Paul's Instagram: @dillonpauldartaYou can contact Shaun by emailing him at: spalmer@revivesobrietycoaching.comVic's book is out! Kennedy in 2013 to erase the stigma of mental illness in the United States, and to ensure mental health parity, so that mental health is treated the same way as physical health for reimbursement by insurance companies.Veterans who receive their healthcare through their employer need to know that the Mental Health Parity Act of 2008 mandates the insurance companies pay for mental health treatment the same as they would for a physical health treatment.Learn more at www.kennedyforum.org Support the showThank you to BetterHelp for sponsoring today's episode! Rodney Orpheus - The Cassandra Complex - in conversation with David Eastaugh http://cassandracomplex.co.uk The band was initially composed of Rodney Orpheus and Paul Dillon, who met when Orpheus gatecrashed Dillon's 21st birthday party in Leeds. They began putting on large multimedia shows featuring various avant-garde acts from the Leeds area. Andy Booth was a journalist who interviewed the band and was later asked to join. The band released their first self-financed single, "March", in March 1985. A live cassette followed a month later, and the band signed to local label Rouska. Dillon left the band to get married and the band recruited Rodney's childhood friend John Marchini, with Jez Willis and Keith Langley guesting live and in the studio.

Although this one was recorded the morning after Halloween, hence mentioning costumes and candies, we wanted to draw your attention to another crucial element of deal making. After discussing contracts and due diligence, today we want to talk about renegotiation - when to do it, why and how to renegotiate a deal in an efficient, effective and ethical way. What is Covered: What the subjects of renegotiation are Five things you should know before buying a house What NOT to do when you want to renegotiate Home inspection gives you permission to renegotiate Why you should never make your seller feel guilty or ashamed Brad and Tony simulate a renegotiation conversation The benefits of renegotiating terms and not only price Remember that your best deals are going to come from term deals and not price deals. Terms are key for the profitability of your long-term deals, but price comes first, then terms. Always keep in mind that a house is a means to an end. This week on the Inside Geneva podcast, we answer questions from our listeners about migrants, asylum seekers, and refugees. Our listeners asked us the following questions: What's the difference between asylum seekers, stateless populations, and undocumented migrants? How does third country resettlement work? Does the United Nations Refugee Agency, or the International Organization for Migration, have the power to prosecute countries if they violate their obligations to UN conventions? Podcast host Imogen Foulkes is joined by experts to provide answers on a topic that is often controversial. “Refugees are forced to leave their countries because of war, conflict and human rights violations. Basically, their lives are in danger,” says Shabia Mantoo, spokesperson for the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR). “Most people don't want to leave. They leave because they feel like there's no other option but to leave,” says Paul Dillon, spokesperson for the International Organization for Migration (IOM). “You just can't push back people at borders if they're seeking international protection. They need to be afforded that right to seek asylum,” says Mantoo. “The conversation is toxic, divisive, and dangerous. Those conversations are not really fact-based, they're emotive,” says Dillon.Get in touch! Email us at insidegeneva@swissinfo.ch Twitter: @ImogenFoulkes and @swissinfo_en Thank you for listening! With a neurodivergent lens over the whole conversation, Paul and Lou explore the risk taking behaviour of our teens. They discuss alcohol, weed, vaping and cocaine in detail and then go on to focus on the Year 9s, sleep overs and the inevitable driving risks and drug testing that can get, especially those taking ADHD medications in hot water. Finally they finish with an often neglected topic around drug interactions, especially relevant to youth taking ADHD medications, anti-depressants and anti-psychotics. The Inimitable Rod Crosby The Intruders was a rock band formed in El Paso, Texas on 1960. The original members were Rod Crosby, Les Lockhart, Donnie Webb and Bobby Wilson. Bobby Wilson, younger brother of Bill Wilson, drummer for the Rock Kings, started the group. The Intruders first gig was a Texas Western Kappa Sigma dance at the Downtown Hilton Hotel. Their pay was $40 ($10 per person). From that time in 1960 until 1973, Rod Crosby emerged as the band's leader. The original members dropped out along the way. It became known as Rod Crosby & The Intruders, and Rod played full time until 1973, when Rod sought employment in the corporate world. In that 13 year period , the Intruders performed consistently, booked every weekend, and played hundreds of jobs at almost every high school in El Paso, all the NCO Officers Clubs on Fort Bliss, Biggs Air Field, McGregor Range and White Sands Missile Range, countless weddings, college parties, private parties and graduation parties. The group was fortunate to have evolved during a time when the Rock & Roll industry was thriving, growing leaps and bounds. The groups appeal was based off their ability to cover tunes precisely for dancing, always lending themselves to the desires of the audience, as opposed to the band. Having performed for thousands of people for the past 60 plus years - Rod Crosby & The Intruders is one of a very few that can make that claim. In 2009, an entity called the Border Legends of El Paso was created to honor any and all local musicians with a body of performing work over a long period of time. The Border Legends of El Paso entity staged a non-profit concert, annually, to pay tribute to El Paso's musicians, past & present, net proceeds going to charitable causes. The annual concert was produced by Rick Kern and Rod Crosby (co-producers). Rick and Rod both had connections to the Bobby Fuller Four. In 1965 Rod was asked by Bobby Fuller to consider joining his group. Rod painfully declined due to his many obligations. The Bobby Fuller Four went to Hollywood to make their mark which they did with I Fought The Law, and more. However, Bobby was killed due to foul play, shrouded in mysterious circumstances, an unsolved murder to this day that remains on the E channels 10 Most Unsolved Murder Mysteries. Two members of the Bobby Fuller Four joined Rod's band not long after the tragedy. Rod picked up the bands musical torch and performs many of the Bobby Fuller Four songs to this day, as well as many of Buddy Holly songs, Buddy being Bobby's and Rod's greatest influence, unknown to either until it was discovered later as friends. Current members of Rod's Intruder band are drummer, Rick Benites, bassist, Ed Clore, guitarist, Paul Dillon, guitarist/keyboardist, Rick Armstrong and guitarist Rod Crosby. All members are vocalists, as well. They are still in great demand with many of El Paso's annual high school reunions. Long live Rod Crosby & The Intruders and Never to Be Forgotten! #rodcrosby #rodcrosby&theintruders

Paul Dillon and Dan O'Neill interview Jake Reilly, drummer from The Blades. The band formed in the late 1970s in Ringsend (known by locals as Raytown): An urband area in Dublin's docklands. The original line-up released two seven inch singles: "Hot For You" and "Ghost of a Chance", before a reshuffle in 1981 which saw Jake join the band. That would be the line up which would release the brilliant album Last Man in Europe which includes classic tunes such as Down Market, Got Soul and Pride. It's a record every music lover needs to put on their turntable. The Blades have since gone on to reform, playing a number of gigs and releasing a studio album in 2016 called Modernised as well as an EP and a live album. They've also been inducted into the Irish Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. A snare drum belonging to Jake sits in the museum in Temple Bar. The drum has been, and I quote ‘to every corner of the country – Battered, beaten and bruised from Ballybunnion to Ballyshannon.” On this episode we look back at The Blade's boxset Those Were the Day, released in 2000 - It features the tracks from Raytown Revisited and Last Man in Europe plus a few bonus tracks. In today's briefing - the vaping problem in schools. Teachers and parents are extremely worried that school students are illegally dealing vapes... and that more and more students are taking it up. There are reports that increasingly younger students, even primary students, are taking it up. Rudy and Maya, year 12 students give us their first-hand experience. We're also joined by Craig Petersen, President of NSW Secondary Principals' Council; and drug and alcohol educator Paul Dillon. Students are vaping inside the classroom... and it's spreading from the city to country schools. Australia has relatively strict vaping laws, many say too strict because they restrict access to people that could use nicotine vapes as a way of quitting smoking. So what's the answer here? Are our laws too lenient, or are vapes the answer to reducing our reliance on nicotine…? Cocaine in Australia is a trend that smacked me repeatedly back and forth in the face when I went home recently and it has since then occupied a gnawing space at the back of my mind.Paul offered a measured analysis of the state of things and our conversation made a big impression on me changing the way I think about the issue.
