As parents and caregivers, we put so much energy into helping our children become academically successful. We push for the right teachers, the right schools, and the right classes. What kind of skills do you find to be critical for us to instill in our children, regardless of their post-high school plans? Making sure our kids are prepared to succeed in school and beyond isn't just about academics, but also about preparing them to navigate the transition from high school to college successfully. Here, we'll talk about what constitutes the college gap and how you can help your kids bridge it with college prep activities that improve study skills, time management, and memory recall. Here are some things to consider as you listen to this episode: Setting Them Up For Success - Boost Your Kid's Study Skills. The foundation of college success is built upon good study skills and is something we can be teaching our kids at an early age. Whether it's learning how to manage their time effectively, memorizing their class notes, or mastering test-taking techniques and exam preparation—the earlier we begin teaching these essential skills, the easier and smoother their transition will be from high school into college life. Getting Them Ready For Adolescence: Start Early, Build a Strong Foundation and Encourage Creative Thinking. Some parents put off giving their children study skills until they reach high school – by then it's often too late. The longer you wait, the harder it is for kids to change entrenched habits of procrastination and disorganization. It's important to begin developing habits of good study behavior early so that these skills become second nature during high school. Helping Them Manage Their Time: Parents often forget that their kids have a life outside of school and extracurricular activities. It's important that your child understands how to manage time effectively if they want their workloads, schoolwork, extracurricular activities, family time, and social life to balance properly. One way you can do that is by helping them develop study skills. The following are some tips and tricks students should learn in order to maximize their learning potential throughout high school. Research Papers Are Often Too Long/Too Wordy: Teachers should specify page length; but more importantly, students need to understand that research papers aren't supposed to be a wiki-type experience where hundreds of sources are quoted verbatim with no analysis or commentary. Providing Support on the Home Front: Tips on how to keep supporting your child even after you've given them all of your advice. Provide some tips on what parents can do to help their children through tough times, even when they're not there with them. Be sure that everything you say is positive and encouraging. Another (of many) fantastic lessons from John Maxwell. From his Daily Reader - this idea of letting failure help point us to success is really something to connect with. He brings up the great points about not having to climb that mountain again, overcome those problems again, having reasons to do things better, and the lists go on and on as to how our failures can be part of the roadmap to success. What a great thing to focus in on with the holidays upon us and a new year around the corner. Personal responsibility is something we all need to look at for sure. Thanks for listening. Another trip to the market got a whole lot better when I decided to get out of my comfort zone. All it took was waving to an older couple that I don't know, but the results were great. I think it's something we all need to do a little more often to people. Just a simple smile or a wave is all it takes. Try it. Successful entrepreneurs all have traits in common that help drive them to success. Doug C. Brown talks to best-selling author and CEO Shriya Sekhsaria about her company, Lumhaa, and how it grew from its beginnings as a way to help parents deal with grief to today as a way to save and share memories. Learn what traits are needed for success and learn how to develop them so you can incorporate them into your own life, make better decisions, and get better outcomes.
Unbridled, passionate optimism. That’s what Napoleon Hill, author of Think and Grow Rich, called “Positive Mental Attitude.” Successful professionals follow the “too soon to tell” outlook by suspending immediate judgment of situations and erring on the side of a positive result. Unbridled, passionate optimism is perhaps the leading principle of a top producer. Hill is known for saying, “There is very little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative.” Top producing professionals have superior market knowledge. This includes not just pricing and tracking comps, but also watching market trends…what’s hot and what’s not…new construction opportunities, companies relocating executives in and out of town, and overall community development. Gandhi said, “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” Top producing professionals pursue and posses knowledge that includes knowing unique financing options, not just relying on conventional mortgage lending, to serve all their clients…first-time buyers, high net-worth clients, owners who have had forbearances, the self-employed, investors. Knowledge equals confidence; ignorance equals fear. The more knowledge you have, the more people you can help achieve their real estate goals. If you’ve yet to reach your own financial goals, it simply means you’ve yet to figure out how to help enough people at your highest level. Top producing professionals’ superior market knowledge is also reflected in their ability to find inventory where everyone else just relies on the MLS. What would you do if there were no MLS in your market? Top producing professionals don’t ju

Show Notes Top Five Success Traits in the Super Successful and How You Can Develop These Traits Too Even though wildly successful people all share certain traits, they're not super-human traits. You can identify and develop these traits if you truly want to succeed. Yes, with hard work and determination, you can become one of the super successful! In your journey to achieve your goals, you'll invariably have to deal with challenges, and even setbacks, from time to time. Every successful person faces some hardship along the way. However, it's important to remember that those with the drive to succeed will stop at nothing until they achieve their success. Here are the top five super success traits, along with tips to help you acquire them: Strong beliefs in yourself and what you're doing. Put your whole heart into your endeavors and truly believe that you can succeed in what you set out to accomplish. If you run into a snag in the road, find something positive you can learn from the situation and use that to keep moving forward. If necessary, develop a new plan to overcome the challenge. Think positively about yourself in all aspects of your life. In order to avoid being too critical, keep in mind that no one is perfect and accept that you'll make mistakes just like any other human. As valuable learning experiences, mistakes can actually benefit you. Being organized and having clear plans. Successful people are organized. They know what they want and how they're going to get there. They develop clear goals with specific action steps to achieve them. Plus, they know where they are on that road to success at all times. You can develop this skill by starting with your general organizational skills. Start small by organizing your desk space. Then organize your notes. Move onto planning out your success by setting clear goals. What do you want? How are you going to get there? Make a detailed plan of achievable action steps that will take you all the way through accomplishing your goal. Then follow your plan. It's your map to success. Sometimes the difference between success and failure is pure perseverance. There will be times when you're faced with difficult challenges. You may even feel like giving up. However, it's important to find the strength within you to pull yourself through, even in these tough times. In order to develop perseverance, reflect on how you normally handle conflicts in life. Do you give up easily when faced with a challenge? Think of those times you gave up. What could you have done differently to encourage yourself to keep going? After reflecting on your normal mode of operation, start changing your mindset about challenges. Instead of bemoaning the challenge, seek a way to overcome it so you can complete your task. Do this each day, with even small challenges, and soon you'll find yourself persevering through larger challenges with ease. The drive to keep learning and achieving. Super successful people realize that they're always students. They may be a master of a certain subject, but there's always something new they can develop or learn. Once they achieve one goal, then they use their current knowledge to help them learn something else that brings them even more success. It's okay to take a break to enjoy your success once you've achieved a goal, but always ask yourself what's next. There's always a way that you can expand your success. No fear of failure. The super successful don't waste their time worrying about failure. They know that everyone must take certain risks if they're going to achieve success and that some ideas might not work out. You only fail if you give up or decide not to try at all. If you're still trying, then you haven't failed! Just as with the other traits, overcoming a fear of failure can be accomplished by starting small. Start out by taking some minor risks. See how most of them work out fine when you expect the best and seek solutions to the challenges? The more ideas you try, the more successes you'll have, and you'll feel confident about forging ahead without fear. To attain the life of the super successful, the most important thing to remember is to always give your all. Adopt these success traits as your own, and soon you'll find that nothing can stop you from achieving your goals!
Each person is unique. They have different needs and wants even if their problems may be similar. When a problem approaches, how do you find solutions to solve it? As your goal is to help solve your client’s problem, it is best to determine a solution that is the best fit by being curious and […]

Last week I spoke at a 2-day event in Brisbane called IN BUSINESS IN HEALTH and Glen Richards, one of the Sharks from the Australian Shark Tank, gave a 45-minute presentation about his journey from a country kid in western Queensland all the way through to becoming the newest member on the Shark Tank. It was an inspiring story and it made me realise that success is possible for anyone willing to put in the hard work. Some of the information and success traits shared by Glen Richards overlapped with an upcoming podcast episode I recorded recently with Wilson Lawrence, which is scheduled for release in about a months time. Wilson Lawrence and I talk about 5 Ways to Approach Adversity and I thought these five traits fitted in perfectly with Glen Richards story, so I've taken a snippet from my upcoming podcast with Wilson and thought I would share it in this weeks Five Minute Friday because the information is so good. 5 Ways to Approach Adversity 1. Have confidence 2. Keep perspective 3. Schedule Action (Have Intention) 4. Ask for help 5. Honour the struggle Successful People Also Show The Following Traits 1. They are prepared to put themselves out there. They take risks. 2. They are willing to work harder than most people. 3. They are willing to take advice from others, not just when times are bad. 4. They associate with like-minded positive people. 5. They never forget where they started, and they know where they're going. In virtually every aspect of life, a small percentage of people thrive, most get by, and some barely survive. Rarely, is the difference a result of environment or luck. Instead, the difference is in the mindset of those who thrive and those who do not. For example, weight loss for most people is pretty straight forward. Exercise to maintain muscle, get enough sleep, eat to shed fat. Success in a network marketing business is also quite simple. Present your product or service to other people, help them get in the habit of using it regularly, and then help them present it to people they know. Relationships? Those come down to investing quality time, being humble enough to hear how you could be a better partner for the other person, and learn to see things from his or her point of view instead of insisting the other person see things from yours. The point is, the “recipe” for success in just about anything is hardly a secret. Most of the time, you could summarize it on a napkin. It’s the “doing” part that separates those who thrive from those who get by. To do what needs to be done consistently, you have to rewire your brain with a bias toward action. Weight training has a unique way of doing just that, which is why, when someone asks me, “How can I develop the traits to succeed in _______?” I often respond with, “Join a gym and get on a weight training program four days per week. Stick with it for a minimum of six months and then let me know how the rest of your life has improved." I’ll explain why in a moment, but I first want to explain how I recently came to this realization. Article ShortcutsThe Fitness-Network Marketing Connection1. Discipline - The Ability to Exercise Self-Control2. Focus - The Ability to Tune Out Noise or Distraction3. Strength - The Ability to Overcome Resistance4. Stamina - The Ability to Sustain Prolonged Physical or Mental Effort5. Resilience - The Ability to Recover From Difficulties (“Toughness”)Weight Training Enhances Your Ability The Fitness-Network Marketing Connection On February 1, 2015, I resigned from a very successful, 13-year career at Life Time Fitness, and joined Vanessa and what I’ve called, “a most fascinating and eye-opening human behavior experiment.” This human behavior experiment is our network marketing business. When I joined Vanessa in 2015, we had about 7000 members in our downline. Today we have about 13,000. In addition to helping new members get started with Young Living ourselves, we do a lot of coaching, business development education, and mentoring others who also want to build a business. Like fitness and weight loss, a small percentage of would-be business builders take off and rock their business, while a large percentage don’t. Over time, I saw patterns in behavior, excuses, and belief systems. The reasons so many people didn’t get their business off the ground were the very same reasons people didn’t succeed with their fitness or weight loss programs. It’s in the practice of doing that gets you to your goals. So why don’t people do the work? Why don’t they do what it takes in their personal and professional lives to reach their potential? In a sense, they’re satisfied with the way things are. They’d like things to be better, as long as there isn’t much work involved. But all too often, people subconsciously throw up their hands as soon as they face the work that has to get done. Which leads me to weight training. From my experience and observation, when someone follows a well-designed weight training program, and makes progress month after month, they end up training their brain to see their goals with a new perspective. And when they take an hour, four times per week, to invest in their personal and professional success through following a periodized weight training program, the effects spill over into all areas of their lives. Weight training develops the following five mental, emotional,

After recording 100 episodes on this podcast, Jenny and Toni discover 3 success traits they both have in common. They believe these traits have led them to becoming a consistent 7-figure agent in this business. While there is no magic wand you can wave to become a successor overnight, you really don't know what works and what doesn't until you put your to-dos into practice. Success is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, and learning to do. Doing the work is the only way to learn; so stop being a perfectionist or second guessing your abilities. Secondly, they hold responsibility for every result regardless if it's a win, if mistakes happen along the way, or if it's a downward market. They are not waiting for a breakthrough; rather Toni and Jenny energetically hold responsibility, step up, and take action. Finally, they show up consistently with high integrity as market leaders. Their level of commitment to delivering quality work and with intention is consistent throughout their brands. So incorporate the Triple Rs in your life! Repetition x Refinement = Revenue and you'll change your life and your client's life one at a time! "To know what you know and what you do not know, that is true knowledge" - Confucius
