Alvorlig PMS (PMDD) rammer ca 60.000 kvinner i Norge. Episode 57 of ‘All About Art': New Kids On The Block - Interviews with 5 Emerging Gallerists in London (Hew Hood, Helen Neven, Maribelle Bierens, Cedric Bardawil, & Jack Trodd) In the past two years in London (2022 and 2023) we have seen a massive surge in small galleries opening across the city. Instead of interviewing one emerging gallerist about why they chose now to take the plunge and open their gallery, I had the opportunity to speak to 5 new gallerists in London. I ask each gallerist 4 questions: Introduce themselves and say more about their gallery. What inspired them to open a gallery in London. What type of art the gallery strives to champion and how they have positioned themselves in the growing gallery landscape in the city. What is one thing they wish they could tell their younger selves when entering the sector as a gallerist.  I start off at [05:22] in North London to see Hew Hood at Hew Hood Gallery in Islington At [17:35] I then went East to see Helen Neven at Neven Gallery in Bethnal Green At [28:08] back down to Fitzovia is where I visited Maribelle Bierens at Night Cafe Gallery At [38:20] to Soho to see Cedric Bardawil at his eponymous gallery up on the first floor of a building on Old Compton Street At [48:46] I sat down with Jack Trodd who runs BWG Gallery, a nomadic gallery that had a home on 13 Soho Square right off of Oxford Street in 2023 but has conducted exhibitions all around London, north, south, east, and west, and will continue to do so in 2024.

My guest today is Ben Trodd, an SVP of Global Sales and Marketing at the amazing Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts. Mr. Sharp says something profound about the company that we discuss in this episode. He says, “There was no vision, there was no grand dream – but there has always been a consistent thread, and that is service.” So while Four Seasons Hotels are now set in gorgeous locations and high design buildings, the only way to describe the brand is that it's more of a feeling.. The consistent service, the ability to be yourself… that keeps many of its loyal guests (myself included) coming back for more.  Ben and I discuss amazing locations around the world, the Four Seasons Private Jet experience, how they're using technology to drive service, and more.  Learn more at www.luxtravelinsider.com   Connect with me on Social: Instagram LinkedIn

In this episode, our team has an insightful conversation with Dr. Danny Burns and Dr. Marina Apgar. Danny Burns is a Professorial Research Fellow at the Institute for Development Studies (IDS) a think tank affiliated with the University of Sussex in England. He has directed more than 25 action research projects and programmes. His work focuses on participatory learning for social change with a strong emphasis on systems thinking and complexity. Marina Apgar is Research Fellow in the Participation, Inclusion and Social Change cluster at IDS. She is a human ecologist with 20 years experience working in the research-practice divide with marginalised communities in international development supporting learning and change in complex systems. Danny and Marina are working on a large-scale system-changing project called Child Labour: Action-Research-Innovation in South and South-Eastern Asia [CLARISSA]. Started in 2016, CLARISSA has a team of more than 150 members. In this episode, Adam and Joe discuss what AR looks like on the ground, and specifically in a large-scale project. What does the creation process look like? How does this huge collaborative team work reflexively in this AR framework? This conversation starts with our classic lightning round where we dive into questions such as: what is systemic AR? (5:17) what does collaboration look like in systemic AR? (6:34) what is IDS? what makes IDS a fertile ground for this sort of AR? (7:40) And, what is your greatest critique of AR? (12:20). In the later segment, we dive deeper to learn more about CLARISSA, which is built on three core values (but not limited to them): 1. child-centred, 2. participation, and 3. being truly integrated (16:55). This is a really big project that involves a lot of stakeholders, participants, and organizations who work collaboratively in variety of different ways (26:57). How does the creation of processes look in this space? To understand this, Adam and Joe ask questions about how the planning process, facilitation and relationship building looks (36:11). Our team wraps up the conversation by raising one of the classic and significant question that we are trying to explore layer by layer in our podcast-Reflexivity! One of the core components of PAR is reflexivity. Find out how Marina and Danny engage reflexively in such a huge collaborative team in CLARISSA (48:00), by tuning in!

Picturing Frederick Douglass: The Images and Visual Protest Legacy of the Nineteenth Century’s Most Photographed American

Zoe Trodd, Professor and Chair of American Literature in the Department of American and Canadian Studies at the University of Nottingham, draws on new research into previously uncollected photographs of Douglass to show that he was the most photographed American of the 19th century. She argues that in sitting for more photographs than any of his peers, Douglass was using photographs in multiple ways: to assert black humanity in place of the slave "thing"; to show how authentic representations could break down racial barriers; to create a black public persona within the abolitionist culture of dissent. Trodd also outlines the visual legacy of these 160+ photographs, including protest paintings and drawings with the anti-lynching and desegregation movement, statues and sculptures from 1899 to 2010, cartoons in the 20th-century black press, and murals and street art in the North, South and West, especially murals celebrating a broader history of African American dissent. She will consider which 19th-century photographs had the most impact in this 20th-century visual legacy, address the politics of adapting the youthful, stern Douglass of earlier photographs versus the elderly, sage Douglass of later photographs, and ask whether Douglass photographs had an even greater legacy in visual culture than his famous writings had in literary texts.
