As I delved into the intricacies of Project 2025, a initiative spearheaded by the Heritage Foundation, I was struck by the sheer scope and ambition of its proposals. This is not just a policy guide; it is a comprehensive blueprint for a radical overhaul of the U.S. government, crafted with the next Republican president in mind.At its core, Project 2025 is a four-pillared initiative: a detailed policy guide, a database of potential personnel, a training program for these candidates, and a playbook for actions to be taken within the first 180 days of a new administration. Led by former Trump administration officials Paul Dans and Spencer Chretien, this project has drawn both intense scrutiny and fervent support from different quarters of the political spectrum.One of the most striking aspects of Project 2025 is its vision for the federal government's structure and operations. The project advocates for a significant centralization of power in the White House, aligning with the unitary executive theory. This means that independent federal agencies, such as the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), would lose their independence and come under direct presidential control. As Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts puts it, "The notion of independent federal agencies or federal employees who don't answer to the president violates the very foundation of our democratic republic."This centralization is not limited to executive agencies; it also extends to the Department of State. Project 2025 proposes dismissing all Department of State employees in leadership roles by January 20, 2025, and replacing them with "acting" leaders who do not require Senate confirmation. Kiron Skinner, who authored the State Department chapter, believes most current employees are too left-wing and need to be replaced by those more loyal to a conservative president.The project's impact on education is equally profound. It envisions a dramatic reduction in the federal government's role in education, advocating for the elimination of the Department of Education and transferring its programs to the Department of Health and Human Services or terminating them altogether. The federal government would be relegated to a statistics-keeping role, with states taking over the responsibility for education. This includes allowing states to opt out of federal programs or standards and converting public funds into school vouchers that can be used for private or religious schools. As Project 2025 states, "Education is a private rather than a public good."Healthcare and social welfare programs are also in the crosshairs. The project proposes cutting Medicare and Medicaid, rejecting abortion as healthcare, and eliminating coverage for emergency contraception. It even suggests using the Comstock Act to prosecute those who send and receive contraceptives and abortion pills. This stance is part of a broader agenda that includes criminalizing pornography, removing legal protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, and terminating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs.Environmental and climate policies are another area where Project 2025 seeks significant changes. It recommends reducing environmental and climate change regulations to favor fossil fuels, stopping NIH funding for research involving embryonic stem cells, and preventing the EPA from using "unrealistic" climate change impact projections. Mandy Gunasekara, former chief of staff at the EPA, argues that the agency's current approach has been "misused for political purposes."The project's science policy proposals are equally telling. It prioritizes fundamental research over deployment, arguing that many current DOE programs act as subsidies to the private sector. It also proposes restricting academic and technology exchanges with countries like China, which are labeled as adversaries. Lindsey Burke, director of the Center for Education Policy at the Heritage Foundation, suggests capping indirect research costs for universities, which would force them to cover more of their current overhead costs themselves.In the realm of media and communication, Project 2025 proposes defunding the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and reconsidering the accommodations given to White House Press Corps members. It also entertains the idea of revoking NPR stations' noncommercial status and forcing them to relocate from their current FM dial positions. The project advocates for more media consolidation by changing FCC rules, allowing local news programs to be converted into national ones.The implications of these proposals are far-reaching and have sparked intense debate. Democrats have been vocal in their criticism, with former President Biden accusing the initiative of being a plan "written for Trump" that "should scare every single American." Vice President Kamala Harris has described it as a "plan to return America to a dark past."Despite these criticisms, Project 2025's backers argue that their vision is necessary to correct what they see as a drift towards liberalism in government policies. As the project's documentation emphasizes, the goal is to ensure that "any research conducted with taxpayer dollars serves the national interest in a concrete way in line with conservative principles."As we move forward, it is clear that Project 2025 represents a critical juncture in American governance. Whether its proposals will be implemented remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the stakes are high, and the potential impacts on various aspects of American life are profound. Today's show opens with more of a free-talk segment, moving from doing what you love to understanding the Machiavellian principle of ruling a people through both love and fear. Both can work, but, of the two, fear is preferred. This rolls right into the ongoing problem Democrats are having with a recalcitrant President Biden. Jake Tapper from CNN seems to be enjoying playing the part of a real journalist over the last several days. He is actually delving into facts and playing fair. I don't know how long it will last, but it's fun to watch. The Wall Street Journal printed a piece saying the German leadership was aware of Biden's physical failings as far back as a 2022 meeting. On the flip side, those already running the show need to protect their boss at all costs. They want to keep control and refuse to admit what we all know. Spokesman John Kirby tells CNN that Joe is lucid, clear, direct and in command of the context and the information. In fact, hailing Biden as the Adult among adults in the room, he later tells the White House Press Corps that Biden will soon be doing a “Big Boy” press conference. This same phrase is then echoed by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. How emasculating is that? The Democrat Party is only interested in absolute power. They don't care about Joe. They only care about staying in power forever. Look back over the last few years if not the last 10-15 and ask yourself which party is really going after “democracy.” Censorship, lawfare, kicking opponents of the ballot and throwing opponents in jail is something the Democrats have been using and pushing just to stay in power. There was a secret meeting in Washington, D.C. about replacing Joe Biden. One representative who walked out, when asked if they were all on the same page, said no. When asked to clarify, he said there were not even in the same book. We then continue with the Parkinsonism discussion. First, on NBC NOW, Dr. Tom Pitts, a Parkinson's expert, was discussing Joe's symptoms. It's a sobering discussion. This relates to the press finding out a Parkinson's doctor by the name of Dr. Kevin Cannard has visited the White House 10 times in the past year. This led to a heated discussion yesterday with Karine Jean-Pierre and CBS's Ed O'Keefe. To lighten things up a bit, we dive into a parody song from my good buddy Jim Gossett. Singing in the voice of President Obama, we get a variation of “Knock Three Times.” Polling isn't good for Joe, but, to be honest, with all that's happening it should be a lot worse. It goes to show the Democrats are going to cheat as much as they can. Which leads us to the SAVE Act, trying to make law that only Americans can vote in elections. The President said he would veto it and Democrat leadership is doing all they can to block it. That says it all, doesn't it? Speaker Mike Johnson says what we all already know. The Democrats have pushed the open borders to flood the country with people they want to vote for them. And, that is what I have been telling you for a very long time, now. Kitchen, Organizing Director for the Teamsters Joint Council #43, to discuss the recent organizing efforts at a Chipotle franchise in Lansing, Michigan. Sam and Emma begin by running through updates on early Russia-Ukraine negotiations (including Putin rejecting a No-NATO pledge), WV's new abortion ban, and Starbucks' firing of organizer Jaz Brisack, also touching on Lindsey Graham launching his bill to finally lead America out of the wacko dark ages of “Bodily Autonomy.” Then Jane McAlevey joins as she, Sam, and Emma get right into contextualizing the growth of the American labor movement over the last two years (since McAlevey's last appearance on MR), exploring the mass growth in organized labor action in the wake of the heightened tensions of 2020 and the labor exploitation of the COVID-19 pandemic, and how the Biden administration's NLRB has failed (and occasionally succeeded) in capturing that rage. Following up on that discussion, Jane gets into the next iteration of challenges facing new US unions, looking at how the rise of independent unions (Starbucks Workers United, Amazon Labor Union, etc), fails to capitalize on the preexisting organizing expertise and experience found in national unions (and preferably in the NLRB) or to mobilize for demands on a larger-scale.
